The Best Bars in Birmingham, Alabama | Eater Atlanta

"Birmingham has no shortage of breweries, but nobody does sour beer or bold flavors as well as TrimTab. The experimental brewery’s ingredients range from oyster shells to Watermelon Jolly candy and even glazed doughnuts. Opened in 2013, TrimTab is now a fundamental piece of the Lakeview District’s bar scene. The core events here lean towards live music, dance parties, karaoke, and weekly bingo, but the brewery also hosts frequent tap takeovers and benefits such as a pet Halloween costume contest." - Sarra Sedghi

Google
Stopped at this brewery on our way through town. We choose the brewery based on their different hop profiles and interesting beer options. The options did not disappoint. Very unique, but the sours and berliner weisse really shone. Staff was extremely friendly and chill. Indoor and outdoor seating is offered - we happened to be there on a trivia night, and there were a lot of people, so we had to sit outside. I would recommend bringing bug spray as we go pretty ate up by the mosquitos. Lots of to-go options as well and a food truck. Off street parking is in a unpaved, rough, unlevel lot, so take that into consideration if you have low mobility or are on a motorcycle.

Google
This place has some really awesome beers, and I love their small batches they usually do. They also have a great food truck, and a fun little market on Saturdays. Parking here is odd and overall it’s a little bit of a quiet vibe, but worth the beer.

Google
Tasting room is laid back and has a good vibe. Atmosphere is casual and local artwork adorns some walls. Beer is solid. Seating both inside and out. Servers are friendly and helpful. I would go back.

Google
This place was a great stop to grab a taster flight, they have some really good brews that have a lot of unique flavor and a great selection of their beers. The tap room was pretty cool, awesome space in the brewing area to sit with a lot of nice airflow through the large warehouse doors on a warm afternoon. All that with a friendly knowledgeable staff to help line up beers on a flight, I already can’t wait to come back.

Google
Good selection of brews, very helpful staff. Lots of tables! Cool place to hang out and talk or play some board games. Love that it is dog friendly. Downfall? People not controlling their dogs. One was off leash running all over. One barked constantly at everyone.

Saw an excellent fun band called Chelekis. Really enjoyed them greatly would love to see them again!!!

Google
Wide selection of sours, great food truck food from Paradise Chow, and friendly folks. Dogs are also welcome! My fav brewery in Birmingham for all the right reasons.

Yelp
This place sports a great selection of beer (if you like sour beer, this is the place to go). I took home a 4 pack of Peach Ring beer and while I was at the establishment, I had a beer with Lavender and Earl Grey tea in it that was as delicious as it was interesting. The bartenders were extra friendly and helpful and great conversationalists as you would expect one working in that capacity to be. The seating area outside was especially cozy with a rustic vibe. The place as a whole, indoors and out, gave a boosted sense of community. Unfortunately, there was no food truck when I visited but this did not detract from my enjoyment of the venue.

Yelp
If you are looking for happening place, Trim Tab is the place to be. Also, they have fun events. I visited today because of their Valentine's Flower Bar. I saw it advertised and had to go. I was able to pick my stems and make a bouquet The other day, we attended the Dark Side small batch brew event. It was great. A lot of friends joined us. Perfect event on a cold rainy afternoon!!

Yelp
Yum!! Ok first of all... they seriously do not even need my endorsement because they are freaking rocking it!! The 006 beer is delish and the vibe is so chill!! Dogs are welcome too!! We had something to nibble on from "Off Beat' Cafè. The Chicken Nachos were seriously the best I have ever had and I am not saying that cause I am 3 beers deep, they are delish!! Please, please give Trim Tab a try and see for yourself!!!

Yelp
IPA LOT WHEN I DRINK BEER! On a night where I get off work early and am craving some socialization, checking out a brewery is the kind of night I am looking for. Birmingham has a fantastic beer scene, with breweries in each neighborhood it seems. Trim Tab has been on my list for a while now, so that was the go to. I am a sour beer drinker for sure and from what I have heard about Trim Tab is they are known for their sour beers. When we first arrived I was unsure about how to enter, but when I saw the stringed lights and a murmur of people talking I knew I had to walk around the back to enter the tap room. The outside area has so much to offer. Lots of seating areas from benches, tables and even some chairs. This brewery definitely has charm and character. When I walked inside the taproom it felt as though I was in a dream tons of colors everywhere, a projector for sports and of course the bar area. I had seen on IG that they had a few new summer sours and was set on trying a few. First I started with the movie snacks which is a sour beer that is supposed to resemble the taste of gummy candies. Next I had asked if they had any type of seltzers and the man behind the bar said they had a new flavor of their ranch water which was a raspberry lime flavor. He did warn me that the nose (or smell) would be a little strange but the flavor is amazing. He was not wrong either way. I loved coming to Trim Tab and will definitely be back. With the summer season right around the corner I feel as though we all are going to need a place to decompress after work and enjoy the outdoors. If you are a sour beer lover, i highly suggest checking out Trim Tab on your next night out.

Yelp
Super nice staff. Went to pick up I like turtles beer. Had a sample. Very good. Place was busy.

Yelp
This place can do no wrong. No matter the season or the day of the week, there is a beer here for everyone. ESPECIALLY if you like sours! I am a huge fan of their peach rings sour right now. The venue is spacious and has live music often. It's a great place to host a large group/event. The staff is always very efficient and super conversational. I love how this brewery invites people from all walks of life and spends a significant amount of time curating an awesome vibe.

Yelp
Stopped in on a nice sunny day to check out Trim Tab. The outdoor seating is really nice and there are a lot of areas where you can setup a private event or a semi-private group event. The tasting room is huge and they have a food truck onsite. As for the beer, I wasn't a huge fan, but I also am very picky about beer. They didn't have anything mild enough for my palate, but I liked the ambience and we enjoyed sitting at the coveted tables outside.

Yelp
This local craft brewery has a lot of personality. It has a fantastic outdoor space that is great for hanging out with friends (and pups). The weather was not ideal on our visit. It was a Friday night and it was quite chilly. Trim Tab provides fire pits and fire wood to gather round, and nothing beats an open fire on a fall evening. The beer was great, and service was good. There was a short line that seem to move relatively fast. I'm finding the craft brewery scene in Birmingham is second to none, and Trim Tab is a must stop.

Yelp
Greta brewery! Visiting Bama and heard nothing but great reviews about TrimTab! Didn't disappoint!! The IPA's are great and well made! Awesome choices of IPA's, lagers, ales, sours, etc! The vibe of TrimTab is laid-back with plenty of seating inside and a great amount of tables/benches for outside seating. Staff is super friendly and helpful in making choices. There is also a food truck on-site for food. Definitely stop by if in the area!

Yelp
This place is always a good time! I have visited so many times for a casual night out, before Slicefest, and most recently for a cozy night by one of the many fire pits outside. The staff is always amazing and willing to answer any questions you have while letting you sample before you make your decision. Normally, I'm not a fan of sours but the Paradise Now is my favorite thing to get here. The atmosphere is very inviting and you are sure to make a friend or two while visiting.

Yelp
Cool spot. Really good beer. Music...read the audience. 2 60+ year old folks and 1 middled aged guy. Not judging, but being 1 of the 3 customers, the high volume F bomb laced hip hop didn't fit the crowd.
google avatar

Kim C.

Yelp
Cool place. I have been here for indoor and outdoor events. They have a great selection of beers

Yelp
I walked into trim tab on a Friday night and felt like I was at the club. It's definitely a vibe! I love all the additional outdoor seating they have added out front amid covid . Very spacious and laid out nicely. I came only to pick up a 6 pack of their IPA on this particular visit. Their IPA is one of the very best! I really love it! There's a lot of different beer offerings for all types. Trim tab is one of the best breweries in town!! Check them out if you have not. Great atmosphere & staff!

Yelp
This was such a cool place. We came to Talladega for race weekend and decided to venture out see some sights. I saw this beer at grocery store here and wanted to try it before purchasing. Has a cute tiki kinda vibe.. lots of beers with fruit notes but they have something for everyone. My hubby found a beer he liked when we both got flights. That's best way to see what you like! My favorite was the one I saw in store called death from above.. fruity, tropical sour beer but to me it's wasn't sour it was very mellow!' I ended up purchasing 4 pack. They only sell in few states right now. They do allow dogs, they had plenty of outdoor seating on both sides of building . I really enjoyed this place.. the staff was amazing and helpful
google avatar

Yelp
Bham top 3 breweries! Massive selection! Girls love you his place cause they got the biggest selection of fufu Go and get three flights!
google avatar

Yelp
Super family friendly atmosphere open seating, pet friendly. Large inside seating area with air conditioning, open patio areas both large and small, inside among the beer vats you can host a private party or event. Great beer selection, signature flavorful IPA's on tap was my go to. Flights available for smaller samples. Drink in or take home a jug. Food trucks on site in parking lot. Pick up a t-shirt or branded merchandise and support local beer. Hope you Enjoy and be kind. Like, comment follow me for More reviews near and far!

Yelp
We stopped by Trim Tab Brewing on our recent visit near the area and love this spot! The associates were welcoming and so was the space. Let's start with the interior- how fun and colorful is all the art inside??? Their outdoor space had plenty of seating options from picnic tables for larger groups and spots for smaller groups. I liked that pets are welcome out there and they even had a spot for you to fill up their bowls of water - too sweet! Their beer is refreshing but because we visited on a pedal bike bar tour, I only had the chance to try one. I got the Agave Lager which is a Mexican-style lager and it was exactly what I needed on a hot day. It was simple and had a great taste. I also really enjoyed their apparel section. I got a fun shirt and they have a separate counter to purchase these items rather than holding up the beer line- so smart. All around, we had a great experience and we can't wait to come back to try more beers and enjoy the large outside space!

Yelp
I have been a huge fan of TTBC since they started but I think my favorite thing is their unique flair on beer and the atmosphere at the brewery itself. Also, the staff is so kind! I enjoy experimenting with beer flavors and find that TTBC always has something fun to try. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Brittany S.

Yelp
I haven't drank a beer I didnt like here. They have a wide variety for everyone's tastebud or mood. From sours to stouts they have it. Also, their clothes are so soft to wear!
google avatar

Yelp
Fast friendly bar service..great beer and excellent pizza truck Uncle Gs. Parking easy Can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Trim Tab came highly recommended when we first moved to Birmingham. It did not disappoint! The beers are super flavorful and the atmosphere of the brewery is fun and funky. They have loads of outdoor space to accommodate their large crowds, though the inside space is limited. The only thing I dislike about Trim Tab is that their selection of beers tends to be limited to IPAs and sours. I personally love both of those styles of beer so it's good for me, but when I bring others who are not the biggest IPA/sours fans, they are limited in their options. But the beers that they do offer are so good that it makes up for this lack of variety! They also do small batch releases every week, so there is always something new to try. Overall, Trim Tab has great beers and great vibes.

Yelp
Very good brewery in Birmingham, Alabama, a city with some great breweries. The standout beer of the evening was the Southern Sphere, a hazy double IPA. Very good.Iwould even risk the term great. A friendly clientele and staff only add to the experience. Check this place out when in Birmingham. This would be a very good choice.
google avatar

Yelp
Well, I've been here a few times now. Trim Tab is easily my favorite Alabama brewery. They're constantly making interesting and delicious beers. Whether it be IPA's, Sours or Stouts. I always, consistently seek them out and try all that I can. Their taproom space is huge but their indoor space is a little on the small side. Everyone working here has always been beyond pleasant, friendly and helpful. I haven't tried any of the food trucks but they always look and smell amazing. This is a gem y'all.

Yelp
Trim Tab is awesome! I am so happy I came across this place on a road trip recently. One of my favorite things to do is check out different breweries in different cities whenever I travel- and I must say, Trim Tab definitely impressed me. First off, their taproom has such cool vibes. Disco balls, cool lighting and art, awesome tunes on the inside- also have a large patio area as well. It's BYOF (i think sometimes they have food trucks) and it's dog friendly! Their beer is also awesome. I was really impressed with the different varieties. I can't wait to check this place out another time while in Birmingham!

Patrick L.

Yelp
Best beer in town. That being said, was there at closing time and something like hip hop was playing so loud you couldn't hear yourself speak. Don't really get what they were shooting for.
google avatar

Rob M.

Yelp
I have enjoyed Trim Tab beer a couple of times with friends who brought it to Atlanta for parties, etc,, so I didn't want to pass up an opportunity to try it myself. It was great! Very tasty selections, and the brewery is neat as well. It's an old warehouse but the taproom has lots of interesting art, and I love the whole meaning behind the name as well. I would definitely return next time I am in Birmingham.
google avatar

Gabe M.

Yelp
Went here with some friends of mine and absolutely loved the atmosphere - very laid back and relaxed with plenty of seating inside and out. They have a good selection of drinks including non-alcoholic kombucha if you happen to not want to or be able to drink. They have a stage on the outside and a small venue space inside for bands to play too. If you're looking for a spot to listen to some local music, try out some craft beer, and sit back and relax after a long day of work, this is the place!
google avatar

Hanna S.

Yelp
This brewery was great! Loved the sour i got and nice outdoor patio area! Will be back

Larry H.

Yelp
Loved it. Good indoor and outdoor seating. Different and delicious flavors. A bit off the beaten track but worth the trip.
google avatar

Chelsea L.

Yelp
Fun little brewery, not much for activities other than sitting around chatting and drinking beers. We had two flights and they were pretty good. We didn't stay long as we got bored pretty quick with just the two of us visiting. Also, they didn't have any stickers... which is what we collect when visiting breweries across the nation so that was a bummer.
google avatar

Ghislain C.

Yelp
Best quality beer in Birmingham without a doubt. The terrace is perfect for hot summer days, people very welcoming, always a good food truck around the corner.
google avatar

Mai N.

Yelp
My fave brewery because I love their beers. I am a huge lover of sour beers and they always have a new one every time I come! I love that they have a huge patio outdoors with shade and allow lots of dogs but I also love the indoor area when it's a bit chilly. People can get door dash food there and there are food trucks there on weekends. They even have trivia nights !

Arian S.

Yelp
Good environment, good food, good service. Tried "cake therapy" & it was good! Trivia night is fun too
google avatar

Mark N.

Yelp
One of two breweries that was recommended by a local beer connoisseur, I have to admit, he is correct. I visited on a weekday afternoon so I was the only one for two hours. Selection of beer is awesome and it definitely adds to "magic" of Birmingham's beer scene. In addition to the IPA that I imbibed, I left with a 32 oz growler filled with a very flavorful German lager. Located on the edge of downtown Birmingham what seems to be a converted warehouse, the tap house/lounge area is relatively large, making it a great place to socialize after work or for a get together.
google avatar

Sabrina M.

Yelp
Very cute brewery! I came by Saturday night and loved all of the outdoor seating and the chill retro vibe inside. They have different seating options inside from tables to couches to barstools. The outside patio tables have huge umbrellas so we were even able to sit outside when it started to rain! I originally had come here when they first opened but they have really worked hard to transform this place! Their beer was also delicious! The breakfast hero was very deep and robust with tons of notes that made you keep sipping and the euphoria imperial sour was SO GOOD!!! Very fruity! Will definitely be back :) they are also pet friendly which is a plus!

Taylor B.

Yelp
it's really chill and cute here. they have an excellent selection of beers including sours for people like me who usually despise beer no matter what.
google avatar

Rick T.

Yelp
This was Birmingham's greatest brewery it had incredible hazy DDH New England style IPA's and well as tropical fruity sours. Tons of cans were available to go even the recently released specialty beers such as 006 also double dry hopped and Giant Steps. The Breakfast Hero cans must be purchased with tin coffee cup especially for the outdoorsman to get that perfect beer shot for Instagram. Couches were comfy and staff were cool and very helpful to me in my needs. Spent well over a hundred bucks in to go beers and flights so I could try most of their offerings. FYI didn't get enough I focused too heavily on IPA's and Breakfast Stout instead of getting the delicious sours. As I'm from SC there no chance of me atoning for my mistake so buy more varieties. People back home always want your beers and cans so get tons.
google avatar

Delia S.

Yelp
Cool brewery down the street from Ghost Train. You can easily walk to either in 5 min. They have about 12 selections at any given time. They release about two or three small batches a week. Beers that fall under Beach Club are released once or twice a month--this month was mango colada which is a sour and 8.0 ABV. They also have light vision collection which include their ipas. It's a really laid-back spot, with a lot of cool seating in the inside including tables chairs and couches. They also have a projector so that you can watch various television events which is great, especially during football season.
google avatar

Hayden B.

Yelp
Lord have mercy. Best beer in Birmingham hands down! I only drink Sours and they always have a wide selection of them. Always. I am currently sipping on "Summer Getaway" and man oh man is she delicious. I think my first sour was "Paradise Now", and that's ultimately when I fell in love with trimtab! Thanks Trimtab for your Delicious selection of Sours! Keep up the amazing brewing! *kissy emojis*

Yelp
This was stop #3 on our Birmingham Brewery Tour. Fun spot--very busy. Trim Tab is a family and pet-friendly spot. We saw lots of kids and some of the cutest dogs while we were there. There is seating inside and out. They make this Rec Water which is a hard seltzer. The Pomegranate, Lemon water was sooo good. None of that weird aftertaste that some of the hard seltzer brands have. I tried a chocolate cake stout that was delicious as well. A great, fun stop on the brewery tour--don't miss it!

Yelp
It's super hard for me to review breweries since I don't like beer, so I try to think about other things like the service and the atmosphere of the brewery itself. I've been here about two times, on a regular day and for New Year's eve this year. I tried some of their highly recommended raspberry beer the first time I came here, and even though I tasted some of the raspberry initially, the beer aftertaste was still too much for me. Fats forward to NYE this year, I tried the cider. It was okay initially with it being, but still reminded me too much of beer. I at least found my place in breweries. Service on NYE was a bit rough, even though they got to me pretty quickly, my friends waited quite a bit to get their drinks. The place itself is pretty big with both indoor and outdoor seating or standing I should say, so you should be able to enjoy coming here rain or shine.

Yelp
My brother and I chose to try Trim Tab based on the reviews we had seen and it's location. I was really quite disappointed. I had the sangria, which was fine. However, it was the entire atmosphere that really killed it for me. In addition, their sound system was awful and just made the music sound even worse.
google avatar

Jeff R.

Yelp
wow! this is such a perfect microbrewery! backyard ambiance, incredible beer options, friendly crowds, fast service. usually strong food truck options as well.

Yelp
TrimTab has been my favorite brewery since I turned 21 and got into craft beer. I live in North Georgia, so it's taken me a while to get myself to Birmingham to visit, but I finally got my chance this weekend! I stopped in around 1 on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. There was a decent number of people both inside and out, but definitely not crowded. The brewery is dog and child/friendly. It's very open and has a lot of space both inside and out to walk around and relax. The bar is large but only has seating on either end. However, there is plenty of seating all around the brewery. The atmosphere is so fun and modern. It's very bright and clean. There's tons of merch when you walk in, which I wasn't expecting since they do not have an online store. They sell shirts, tanks, glasses, koozies, bathing suits, and of course beer to take home. I got to try a beer from the Gallery Series, All the Fruits, and loved it!! They also recently released a sour ale called Beach, Please that was very tasty. I sampled the Breakfast Stout and the Japanese Rice Lager and loved both. There hasn't been a beer from TrimTab that I don't love! Needless to say, I've always loved the beer, but going to the brewery and seeing how friendly the staff is and how nice the building is made me love it even more!
google avatar

J M.

Yelp
Hands down, best beer in town! This brewery makes the best standard IPA but also the craziest beers that sound like they'd be terrible but are delicious. Even the Imperial donut stout is amazing! The fact that they partnered with Hero Donuts for that one shows excellent judgment. On top of all that, the outdoor seating is now up to snuff with plenty of tables outdoors, much of it covered. Please don't ever stop making this world a better place, Trim Tab!

Lindsey B.

Yelp
We were in town for a wedding and stopped by during the day! They had lots of great beer options and great service. Loved this spot!
google avatar

Trey H.

Yelp
One of, if not, the best taproom & brewery in Birmingham. Staff was very friendly in suggesting brews based off taste preferences and was more than happy to hand out multiple samples until you found the beer you wanted. While we didn't sit outside, there were multiple fires and plenty of seating for a couple or larger groups. Taproom has a large projector for watching sports or Netflix. Overall, will definitely be visiting again to try some of their limited releases.
google avatar

Alex R.

Yelp
They are 3 years old and growing up well. Initially overstocked with IPA's and hoppy beers they have begun to branch out and broaden their palate. Their Raspberry Berlinerweiss is very popular. But what turned my head was the Russian Imperial Stout they had this winter. Damn I wish they would get rid of the idea that a beer is seasonal. I drink them all, all year round. Trim Tab also has some incredible events (Check their calendar) It can be a fun place to go. But be ready on the weekend for a lot of noise you have to shout to be heard.
google avatar

Matthew Y.

Yelp
Trim Tab provides great beer (widely available) and a great venue for trying all their beers and getting to know who's behind the operation and where it's all made. There are several beers that I definitely recommend giving a shot - their Mosaic IPA and new Salt Fudge (?) Milk Stout. As a beer drinker, however, I think their addition of Rec Water is not to be overlooked. It's similar to a carbonated seltzer water, but is processed similar to a beer and has a light, wheat beer type of taste that is refreshing, flavorful and light. The venue is a fun, casual experience, with two outdoor areas that has warm space heaters and a food truck on standby. During the summer hours they'll have a crawfish boil going on, which I highly recommend trying out.

Yelp
Birmingham is so fortunate to have so many wonderful breweries, with Trim Tab not being an exception. The atmosphere at Trim Tab is unique, and the beer selection matches. My favorite beer there (and probably most of Birmingham's) is the Paradise Now. We love visiting the brewery because they will always have a small batch to try. During the summer, they released the Strawberry Cream Ale which was one of my favorites. There is a great indoor and outdoor seating area, with plenty of parking in a gravel lot and the side of the facility. They have a food truck to grab a snack or dinner if needed. The bar is almost always busy, so the bar tenders are typically quick and short with you (not a problem). I also enjoy the string lights on a summer night out by their patio. This isn't my favorite brewery in Birmingham; but if you are wanting to hit several, make sure to stop by and grab a brew at Trim Tab.
