No trip to DCA is complete without a detour to Trolley Candy Treats ... which is easily recognizable with its iconic "Candy" sign. I've gotten my first caramel apple ever from this store (the only one I've ever tried was the one coated with peanut butter, chocolate, caramel and peanut butter cups), making this destination even more memorable.
Though every candy shop (The Candy Palace, Marceline's, etc.) sports a good variety of caramel apples, I love seeing the assortment at this particular store. Some of the more memorable ones have been Olaf and the "Apple Pie" Mickey (at least, it reminded me of an apple pie because of the graham cracker dust at the bottom).
You can find many of the treats at Trolley Candy Treats at other locations, but sometimes I just purchase my treats from this location because it tends to be less crowded than The Candy Palace on Main Street in Disneyland. I do miss the original candy store's location (on the right side if you're looking to exit DCA), but I can still usually find whatever I'm looking for at this venue. There's also more space to move around in this venue ... it's not as claustrophobic as The Candy Palace on Main Street.
Here are some of my favs:
"Mickey Mouse Gingerbread Cookie": This location is hit-or-miss when it comes to my beloved Mickey Mouse Gingerbread, but sometimes, if I'm lucky, I can get my hands on this treat. With its moist, chewy texture and chocolate-dipped Mickey ears, this cookie (available year round) is my absolute go-to! If it's not at this location, however, I just have to make sure to go to Disneyland and stop in at Pooh Corner before leaving the Park.
"(Round) Peanut Butter Cookie": The DCA Candy Store (in its original location) was the first place where I ordered this peanut butter-laden cookie, and it's one of my favorites because of its strong peanut butter flavor. I love the soft, chewy consistency of this cookie and the prevalent peanut butter chunks. I'd recommend this for any peanut butter lover.
"(Round) Chocolate Chunk Cookie": There are several perfectly round cookies (peanut butter, snickerdoodle, chocolate chunk and some kind of raspberry-white chocolate hybrid) that are usually on display in the various candy stores, but I believe this is where I first tried (well, the old DCA candy store, but same park) this delicious chocolate chip cookie. It features a soft and chewy cookie that's generously infused with chocolate chunks. Some chocolate chip cookies tend to be stingy with their chocolate chunks, but not this bad boy -- I love it cause you get a decent amount of sweet chocolate in every single bite.
"Chocolate-Covered Pretzel Rod": I was really hungry one afternoon and absolutely could NOT wait until dinner time, so I got a snack from this Candy Shop to hold me over. I was in the mood to try something different from my usual cookies, so I got one of the chocolate-covered pretzel rods. I was satisfied my choice, as it was the perfect salty-sweet snack. I liked the thicker pretzel--more substance and salt--and the thick milk chocolate coating gave the crunchy treat a sweet aftertaste. And, because it was a cooler day, I didn't have to worry about my chocolate treat melting in the sun. I usually prefer soft, doughy, chewy pretzels over crunchy pretzels -- except for when said crunchy pretzels are covered in chocolate, peanut butter or some other yummy coating. I'd definitely get this treat again if I'm looking for something different than my typical sweet pick-me-up.
"Reese's Caramel Apple" (Seasonal): If they ever bring this caramel apple back, I would definitely get it again. This was the very first caramel apple I ever bought from Disneyland! Though the apple itself was REALLY tart--too tart for my liking--the amount of sweetness coated on the outside helped to balance it out. This apple was covered in milk chocolate and had generous chunks of the Reese's Peanut Butter Cups (and a milk chocolate drizzle) on the outside. I loved how the entire apple was generously covered with the Reese's chunks -- I basically got one in every single bite! Hopefully next time, I'll be lucky and get a slightly sweeter apple! I've seen a lot of other super cute caramel apples at this location as well, such as the "Olaf" apple and "Graduation 2014" apple (which I almost bought, but wanted the Reese's one that was featured in May 2014).
