If I could give Trompeau Bakery more than 5 stars, I absolutely would. This is not just a bakery—it’s a full sensory experience that somehow manages to transport you straight to a quiet corner café in France, nestled right in the heart of Denver. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted by the warm, buttery scent of freshly baked pastries and the subtle hum of espresso machines, mingling with the soft chatter of loyal regulars and wide-eyed first-timers alike. Let me start with the crown jewel of my morning: the breakfast sandwich on a croissant. I have traveled quite a bit and tried my fair share of breakfast sandwiches, but this one? It is on a whole different level. The croissant is impossibly flaky and tender—golden and crisp on the outside, pillowy soft on the inside. It’s the kind of pastry that leaves a delicate trail of buttery crumbs on your plate and your soul equally satisfied. Inside, the sandwich is perfectly balanced. Whether you go with bacon or ham, the meat is cooked just right, layered with a gooey, melted cheese and fluffy egg that fills you up without weighing you down. It’s a masterclass in simplicity done perfectly. Then there’s the cinnamon roll—oh my. Forget what you think you know about cinnamon rolls. Trompeau’s version is delightfully decadent without being cloying. It has just the right amount of sweetness, swirled with a fragrant cinnamon filling and topped with a glaze that melts beautifully over the soft, airy dough. It’s a pastry that begs to be eaten slowly, savored with each bite—but good luck with that, because it disappears fast. And I can’t write this review without mentioning the coffee. In a city with no shortage of great coffee shops, Trompeau’s brew holds its own. Whether you prefer a classic drip, a bold espresso, or a silky latte, their coffee is rich, smooth, and robust—crafted with care, not just served. It’s the perfect companion to anything you choose from their pastry case. What also makes Trompeau so special is the ambiance and service. The staff are always warm, patient, and genuinely passionate about what they do. They’ll chat with you about your favorite baked goods, offer suggestions, or just smile warmly as they ring up your order. It feels like a true neighborhood gem, the kind of place where they remember your name and your favorite order. Trompeau Bakery isn’t just one of my favorite places in Denver—it’s become a part of my routine, a weekly (sometimes twice-weekly) indulgence I look forward to. Whether you’re looking for a quiet spot to enjoy a morning treat, a special pastry to bring to friends, or just the best croissant sandwich you’ll ever eat, do yourself a favor and visit this place. You’ll leave full, happy, and already planning your next trip back. 🥐☕️🍽️

Stopped by while in a girls trip to Denver. I ordered a Kaladi Latte and it was amazing. There was plenty of seating when I stopped by around 1pm on a Friday. The street traffic was good for people watching as I sat on the patio. Seems to be a nice place to hang outside if you were bringing along a pup.

My new favorite breakfast joint in downtown Denver! I tried the Everything Pull Apart pastry 3 days ago and have been back every morning since for another which are baked fresh every day. The Gruyere and Bacon Pull Apart had been sold out on my past visits but I got here early enough today to get one and it is delicious! The staff here are also really nice and down to Earth, and always seem to be in a good mood laughing and joking with one another. Its an unpretentious spot with good energy. Highly recommend it!

Google
I got here around 6:45am on a Monday. There was no one here so my food and drink came out in less than 5 minutes. I got the bacon and cheese pull apart bread... Amazing!! I also got a vanilla ice coffee (no cream) and it's super smooth. I definitely recommend coming here for breakfast

Google
The croque madame here is a transcendental experience! Loaded with black forest ham, put on homemade toast, with a perfectly jammy egg and melty gruyere... worth every penny. Chocolate croissants and coffee are a great value, too.

its a beer life

Google
Trompeau bakery on 16th street is in the same building as the Marriott hotel. The bakery has a great atmosphere and is very clean. I believe this one just opened recently. Fresh baked items await you to accompany the great coffee and drinks the friendly staff concocts. They have seasonal options for both makes goods and drinks. I like big cups of coffee and they have 20oz cups for you big coffee cup people. They are open early 6 am so for you early risers you now have a better option than that 3 hour old pot of coffee sitting in the hotels lobby. Will definitely be back each time I’m in Denver.

Google
I was in Denver for a month for work. I found this bakery after 3 weeks and came every day after that. The pastries are great. The cinnamon rolls are amazing if you can snag them (usually starting around 0830) and the coffee is well balanced with several options for flavored syrups. I walked a half mile here sometimes twice a day because it was the best I could find within a mile of my hotel.

Fantastic croissant and perfect latte♡ staff was friendly and attentive. Ryann even remembered me from my last visit! Can't wait to come back.

Yelp
Stopped by for a mushroom pull apart and a coupe of cookies. It was closing time so I grabbed what was left. The pull apart was the best thing I've eaten on my trip. Full of flavor and warm and fresh- it was divine. The cookies- one was molasses and the other was peanut butter- again just melt in your mouth with so much REAL flavor. The perfect cookie. Super nice staff at the end of a shift. Cozy surroundings. 10 out of 10.

Yelp
This is a coffee shop that has below average baked goods. It should not be viewed as a bakery; full stop. While they may bake croissants there, the finished product is rubbery, missing any flaky crust, and lacking discernible layers inside (that airy feeling). The service is fast and friendly, and there is plenty of seating (regardless of whether you order for here or to go, you're going to get your coffee in a paper cup, FYI). Stop here because the location is convenient and you need some caffeine. Avoid at all costs if you are looking for a quality croissant.

Yelp
I stayed at the Courtyard hotel which has a common door to Trompeau. What a lovely bakery. A really nice and friendly vibe when you walk. All the baked goods are fresh. I have an almond croissant and it was delectable. Coffee was delicious. If you are staying at the Courtyard, it's a 25 foot walk through the lobby to the bakery. Very delicious food and cool people.

Yelp
Hit up Trompeau Bakery while in Denver and huge kudos to them for being a coffee shop that is not afraid to open at 6AM. Maybe it's just me but I think a coffee shop opening any later than 6AM should be a disqualifier when it comes to getting my business! The staff at Trompeau was friendly as they took my order. I grabbed a bottled orange juice and ordered a cup of coffee and a build your own breakfast sandwich. The coffee was piping hot and was okay but nothing to write home about. It was certainly good and did the trick, just nothing that was remarkable or would bring you back for just a cup of coffee again. The build your own breakfast sandwich was a nice option and I opted for egg, chicken sausage, pepper jack cheese and tomato on sourdough bread. The egg was premade and the sandwich was decent. The sourdough bread was excellent but I found it strange that for a breakfast sandwich the bread wasn't toasted. The croissants in the case looked to be quite good and those might be worth checking out as they certainly seemed like a nice breakfast option. Not a bad local spot and bonus points for opening up at 6AM.

Yelp
The don't have a toaster so I didn't bother to eat my sandwich since I wanted it toasted and also wanted the cheese to melt. BUT they get credit for reaching out and refunding my money without me asking so they get credit for that. I still think they need to buy a toaster but I appreciate them doing that

Yelp
We got a variety of croissants and danishes brought into the office from here and they were fantastic. Especially the chocolate croissants!

Joseph S.

Yelp
This is not a bakery. A few baked goods. We ordered two croissants and they were doughy messes. Nothing flaky. Didn't even eat one bite. Staff is nice if clueless.

Yelp
This is more a coffee shop with baked goods available, but that didn't hurt my feelings I was just looking for somewhere to hang while I waited for a friend and the museum across the street to open. Everyone running the counter was really friendly and sweet. They were super understanding of all my questions regarding caffeine, and best of all THEY HAVE DECAF CHAI Most places make their chai with a pre-made syrup, but they make theirs from scratch so it's available decaf. It wasn't quite as sweet as what I normally go for, but I loved how it was spiced. A little peppery and heavy on the cardamom. I think next time I might ask them to add a shot of vanilla, but it was tasty. The interior is cute, like upscale French shop. Some tables and counter space so lots of different options for sitting.

Yelp
Got a skim cortado and custom croissant sandwich with egg, pepperjack, tomato, and pesto. Cortado was strong but good. Breakfast sandwich perfectly hit the spot. They open early, which is a perk. Good amount of seating inside. Cute casual cafe. Little more on the expensive side. Service was great! Very welcoming and amicable. Would recommend if you're in the area.

Yelp
Trompeau was a nice spot for a morning coffee. I came early on a Saturday so it was very quiet throughout my visit. Plenty of seating for both socializing or sitting alone if you need some solitude. I had a flat white, and was impressed -- the espresso tasted good, not too bitter or acidic. And the drink itself was well prepared, they did a good job. The cafe is probably more suited to people who work nearby, it's not the most cozy or charming inside. But for a good caffeine fix in this area, it's a worthwhile option!

Yelp
Stopped here on my way through downtown Denver when I was craving a croissant. It's on the corner of 16th street mall so definitely have to park a few blocks away and walk. I got a ham and swiss croissant. It was pretty average - honestly, it was a bit greasy and not as airy as other croissants I've had. I do think it was a bit overpriced for what it was. However I do like the atmosphere and think it would be a better place for coffee than for breakfast.

Yelp
With a meeting downtown, this bakery is just steps away from where I needed to be. Super convenient and worthy of the Baker's Appreciation Fee (5%) that is automatically charged on your credit card purchase. While it is not on their menu board, matcha lattes are indeed available here. I certainly appreciate the non dairy milk alternatives available for a small fee. The barista did his best with pouring latte art on my matcha canvas and serving it up with a smile :) Now for the croissant! So many choices and they are all large flakey buttery goodness! I savored every bite of the Almond croissant. It was hot and fresh out of the oven, like a big warm hug. The seating area is clean. The service is super friendly. Don't forget to sign up for their loyalty program. After two visits, I've already earned a FREE butter croissant!! See you there tomorrow :)

Yelp
What a quaint bakery and you can enter from the mask or the Courtyard! The croissants are massive - really! I chose the quiche Loraine to go as I had meetings to get to. It was warmed up ( nice touch!) and ready quickly. The crust was buttery and the quiche flavorful... what am I going to try tomorrow for breakfast!?

Yelp
Newly opened bakery, I couldn't wait to try. Its on 16th Street Mall and Curtis Street where Starbucks use to be. The inside looks just like the Starbucks except with the bakery trademark. I would say this place is less of a French bakery (how its advertised as) and more of a regular coffee shop with a small selection of baked goods. I had a latte, Reuben croissant and their chocolate vanilla cake. I wasn't super impressed. The latte was pretty typical and good. The Reuben croissant left a lot to be desired. It wasn't worth the price point. It was super cheese but the Reuben meat (corn beef?) was grey and tasteless. There was minimal amounts of it and even less sauerkraut. The chocolate vanilla cake was good if not a little too sweet. All in all it was an okay place. But misleading as a bakery. I doubt I will make a special trip to go there in the future.

Yelp
This is a cute secondary location to the original Trompeau Bakery in Englewood. Although many folks are saying this is more of a coffee shop than a bakery, I think that misconception is due to the fact that they don't have a huge display case of pastries. Nevertheless, the baked goods here are delicious and reasonably priced. I had an almond croissant that I really enjoyed- it wasn't the flakiest croissant I've ever had, but the almond filling had the perfect amount of sweetness and there was no yucky almond-extract flavor. Note that they have a great breakfast special: $6 for a large drip coffee and pastry of your choice! Don't be dissuaded by the 16th street mall construction out front.

Yelp
Perfectly fine croissant. Honestly not much more to say. Xxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxx. Xxxxxxxxxxxx. Xxxxxxxx

Yelp
This is the smaller of the two Trompeau Bakery locations. They offer hot & cold beverages, freshly made sandwiches, juices and a limited selection of sweet and savory croissants. They also have cookies, tea cakes, apples and premade salads. There are several tables and counter seating looking out towards Curtis St. No patio. Only 2 staff persons, one making beverages and the other preparing food. That caused the waiting line to move slowly. I saw several groups of people leave the line. I got a chocolate croissant which was warmed up in a convection oven and a hot chai latte with Oat Milk. They still have their rewards program thru FiveStars. They use compostable packaging for takeout.

Yelp
Awesome pull apart pastry with everything seasoning is insanely good! Service is solid and coffee is good! Bit spends but definitely worth it

Logan K.

Yelp
Cute little cafe with a nice patio right on 16th street. Staff was friendly, and the breakfast croissant sandwich was delicious.

Gina A.

Yelp
Cute coffee shop, variety of bakery items, conveniently located if you're staying at the Marriott... The guy working at the cash register seemed annoyed to be taking my order and was not the usual friendly coffee vibe in the morning. The coffee I got tasted like dirt/mold!! Didn't even drink it. The quiche was okay, just bland, the croissant had good flavor but seemed undercooked. Very doughy inside not flakey. I wouldn't go back.
google avatar

Yelp
Phenomenal croissants! Picked up a dozen for a client meeting and they disappeared in seconds. Fluffy, flakes, crispy, delicately chewy, amazing fillings.

Cathy C.

Yelp
As out of town visitors we tried out a couple coffee shops. Trompeau met all of our needs - great service and coffee and a delicious breakfast sandwich on a fresh, toasted croissant. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Charles L.

Yelp
This is more a cafe than a bakery. The selection of baked goods is limited. The croissant I had was average. Slightly crisp. Not very soft and chewy. Slightly tough. Mild butter taste. The latte had mild burnt flavor. Not very creamy.
google avatar

Ryan M.

Yelp
This is insanely over priced for horrible food. I ordered a $8 pull apart. Bacon and cheese. Take a look at the inside. One piece of bacon? 0 cheese. It's stale and tastes like it was cooked days ago. Would never return.
google avatar

Barbara Becker M.

Yelp
Savored the mocha and butter croissant quickly then dived into my spinach quiche. Highly recommend this little gem of a cafe a few minutes walk from convention center.

Jeff C.

Yelp
Great little coffee shop and bakery in downtown Denver. Food was super fresh, coffee was very good and great spot to sit outside and people watch
google avatar

Allen C.

Yelp
The breakfast sandwich was one of the best I've ever had. So yummy. The staff was very friendly with good service. Cozy cafe with great views of the 16th street mall.
google avatar

Annie P.

Yelp
Pain au chocolat with almonds was amazing, straight up to die for person on the register was kind and helpful, shop was cute even with all the construction outside
google avatar

Kati W.

Yelp
Other reviews have called these croissants greasy but this Wisconsin girl loved the super buttery, soft dough. This is not an airy, crispy dough so if you want that, go elsewhere. This dough melted in my mouth. I got both a regular croissant and a bacon and gruyere pull apart and both were amazing.
google avatar

Christopher R.

Yelp
It was fine. The staff were all very pleasant and accommodating. The food/drink quality wasn't fantastic. My quiche was cold upon first bite. The staff member promptly warmed it up again, and was much better. The coffee was nothing special, nor was the mocha (not sweet at all). Having been to several French bakeries, it wasn't really a bakery but rather a cafe, so that was a little misleading/disappointing. All in all, I wouldn't mind going back, but wouldn't go out of my way.

V M.

Yelp
I loooove your food. However, I'm baffled by how you use such strong cleaning products. When you walk in - you get blasted with fabulosa, NOT baked goods. Your pastries taste like it. Are you aware of this?

Sierra S.

Yelp
Very friendly staff, helpful in choosing food, great tasting quiche and crepe wrap. And perfect coffee
google avatar

Bruce J.

Yelp
So nice to have this bakery so close. Baguettes, croissants, and sandwiches are all awesome. They are as if you are in Paris.

Micah H.

Yelp
Offers Kaladi coffee and awesome baked goods. The service was pleasant and they are right on the edge of the most recently completed block of 16th.

Addison B.

Yelp
We got the chocolate croissant, chocolate almond croissant, and the apple cinnamon croissant. The chocolate almond was amazinggggggggg. Very cute inside too.

Rob I.

Yelp
It all went well. Great shop, great coffee, great baked goods. Had a nice conversation with the staff. Hats off to Indie who was very friendly and kind in remaking my drink after I realized I ordered the wrong thing. I'm only here for two days but WILL be back!

Mary H.

Yelp
I'm staying at the Courtyard and went in for coffee and a quick bite. Fabulous! Service was OUTSTANDING! Do yourself a favor if you're in the area and stop in!

Jacqueline C.

Yelp
Staff and a slice of Paris. Great! Whenever we're in need of delicious baked goods and smiley, friendly people we head to Trompeau and it brings us joy.
