"In search of a bûche de Noël come holiday time? This beloved Englewood fixture delivers on that score just as surely as it does such Gallic staples as pain aux raisins, chaussons aux pommes, chocolate eclairs, quiche, and the croissants it’s perhaps best known for." - Eater Staff

The Trompeau Bakery + Cafe never disappoints. A must stop every time I am heading downtown. I specially go down Broadway to get an amazing croissant for breakfast and a French baguette for the road. Always busy- always good!!

Google
Bakery with fresh bread, sweet & savory pastries and coffee. The blueberry almond croissant was excellent and paired well with a cappuccino. They had several other interesting choices displayed as well. Service was fast, friendly and helpful. The space had several tables which were mostly occupied and there are additional tables outside. They do have password protected Wi-Fi available for guests. There was adequate parking in the lot in the morning.

Who ever hasn’t come here must change their mind and stop by ! This place it’s a true gem! The Ham and Brie baguettes are out of this world! But the Danish OMG taste just great balance on flavors, and the Guava cream cheese great with their excelente coffee! I’m not sure what it’s the role for Tanner but this gentleman it’s absolutely incredible, so friendly and passionate with a lot of patience to explain and even check in on us couples times ! Tanner it’s a keeper I will come back and recommend to anyone I know !

Google
Their croissants are wonderful, but they need some quality control. Some weeks two croissants are the same size as one from the previous week. I’ll happily pay $4 for a croissant, but I expect it to be a decent size each week. The croissants pictured were the same price bought on the same day, and one was almost double the size of the other, and this happens often.

Such an amazing place! the croissants are on point! service is fantastic too! One of my favorite places for a nice treat

If I could give this 10 stars, I would in a heart beat. First of all very chill and nice workers at the counter. Not crowded. The cheese danish was the best one I have EVER had in my life. I’m not even kidding. Not even warmed up and it melts in your mouth. I used a knife and fork to eat it because it’s literally about 6” in diameter. Next the Ham and Swiss croissant was to die for. So soft and flakey and the ham wasn’t gross ham. If you’ve had these at other places then you know that a lot of places use low quality ham since it’s hidden inside. Not here. Seriously amazing food. Their caramel latte was very good. Just sweet enough. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!

Google
I can see why they have been getting mediocre reviews recently. Yes, they make everything daily, but that doesn't mean it makes sense to sell out of almost everything by 10 am, let alone lunch items. Pastry quality is acceptable but lags the level of the bakery franchises that are starting to take over in the US. Coffee is fine. If you're in the area and want something quick to eat, as I was, you might as well check it out, but there's no reason to make a trip.

Google
Small bakery with pre-made quiches and assorted pastries. I picked a quiche from the refrigerated display, they heated it up and brought it to the table. It got pretty busy, mostly to-go orders. They have some seating avaliable inside and outside. The quiche was good, but not exciting enough to go out of my way. Friendly staff and clean. I'd stop back in if it were on my way.

Yelp
I just had a wonderful visit at one of my favorite bakeries in town and that's none other than Trompeau Bakery. This occasion was to claim my free bday sweet croissant which they notified me of via text yesterday. I simply wasted no time coming here today!! Service: They are simply a kind-hearted group of people that work here. The lady who first assisted me was patient; she didn't rush me or anything and said to take my time to choose the one I'd want as my free one. She, of course, said, "Happy Birthday!" to me at the end. The guy who checked me out was also very kind. "Alright, free one! That's nice, huh?" I do pay attention to kind words uttered by workers when I utilize a service. Not just the kind words, the gestures and demeanors demonstrated to match those kinds words are truly important and this is what makes a business (small or large) remarkable and we all want to come back to support them. Thank you! Food/Beverage: My Chocolate Almond Croissant was dense and heavy loaded with everything. I tasted all the ingredients that rushed into my mouth and entertained my palate. Cortado to accompany my sweet croissant was also perfectly made. Inside the restaurant: Inviting and quaint as usual. And it's very organized with spot-on cleanliness. As long as the weather permits, you can always sit outside in the patio. Thanks, Trompeau Bakery for serving us the residents for so many years. You are one of the gem restaurants that the Denver Metro can boast.

Kelly K.

Yelp
Stopped into this bakery in a strip mall off of Broadway. There was a patio where people were sitting and enjoying coffee and pastries, and plenty of seating inside. The pastries were priced well and baked fresh daily. Highly recommend!

Alisa J.

Yelp
Overall good but wasn't blown away. Went later in the day and even though a lot of stuff was gone we were able to get the Chile relleno croissant which was amazing and unique. We also got a baguette which I found was too crumbly. Overall decent bakery but I didn't feel like it was an authentic French bakery. Service was nice.

Emena B.

Yelp
The jalapeño quiche is divine!!! I ran in just to check it out and i left with an arm full. I had a stuffed pastry, the quiche, a loaf of bread and a delightful coffee.

Beka R.

Yelp
Picture this: you live approximately two blocks from a super cute bakery and every Friday, you and your besties walk to said bakery for a morning croissant - AKA the best reward for making it through another week. That was my life when I lived near Trompeau!! Just passing by in the morning is a treat- getting a big whif of fresh baked goodness. The staff here are incredible too - always with the best recommendations (not that you could go wrong TBH. Inside vibes are perfect for friend meetups and there's even a cute patio out front. Protip: grab a coffee from kaladi (1 block away from Trompeau) and then a croissant from here. BEST. DAY. EVER.

Michele P.

Yelp
Great pastries, love the fresh bread and cookies. I always leave with lots of goodies.

David M.

Yelp
Simply one of the best bakeries in the Denver metro area. They used to be in Denver proper but years ago they moved down south on Broadway. The drive, however, is worth it. A neat busy place with only about 20 indoor table seats, but a well heated patio allows some flexibility on crowded days like today's 50+ degree winter weekend at brunch-time. Couldn't decide between their ham and cheese croissant or their cheddar jalapeno quiche, so like a good over-privileged American consumer...I bought them both. The croissant won because at heart I can't bring myself to appreciate a quiche made with cheddar cheese so it really never had a chance. Stop on by when you wanna put on a pound or two. Sign me, David "love handles"M

Gemma M.

Yelp
Excellent service and food. Staff was friendly and welcoming. The croissant was flaky, a bit of crunch on the outside and light with soft layers on the inside. Thr atmosphere is nice, that of a small and cosy coffee shop.

Bennett P.

Yelp
I came for my birthday croissant and a latte. They still had a good selection of pastries left. I got a Raspberry Chocolate croissant. My latte was hot with 4 pumps of hazelnut syrup. I also got a Spinach Feta quiche which the staff heated for me. I got 2 cookies for later, a gluten free peanut butter and an oatmeal raisin. The display cases, tables and floor were clean with soft music. It does get noisy when they fill up with people. I initially sat inside, but moved out to the patio.

Kelsey A.

Yelp
Fluffiest most flaky croissant I've ever had in my life! I also tried the jalapeño cheddar quiche and that was 100% worth the money. I ended up having to share it with somebody because it was just too much food for me. I also tried their coffee and I wasn't that impressed but it got the job done. Trompeau had plenty of tables indoors as well as a cute patio area that you can enjoy your breakfast on or take it to go. I would definitely come back to try more of the pastries that are offered like the blueberry cream cheese pastry... YUMMY.

Lou K.

Yelp
This is a cute bakery with coffee, sandwiches, desserts, and breakfast items. I came here for a quick breakfast on a Saturday. They were very busy and crowded but the staff was very friendly. I ordered the Turkey Swiss Croissant and the Jalapeño Cheddar Quiche. Everything was baked fresh that morning. The croissant was flakey and soft. I would have preferred a bit more cheese on the inside. It was loaded with turkey but the turkey tasted a little dry in the bites without cheese. The quiche was really good but the center was not quite warmed up enough. The crust was perfectly thin and flakey. I also got a mocha coffee that was simple but good.

Steve M.

Yelp
the best Baguette in town...cheap. as Safeway, gp here! I need 85 more characters to post tis, go here, go here, is that 85?

Michele P.

Yelp
As always great food and great service, this is on of my favorite places to go for breads and pastries

Michael S.

Yelp
Croissants are to die for. Weekdays are casual snd easy to walk in, was there Saturday before Mother's Day and line out the door by 7:20AM. Worth the wait.

Lala A.

Yelp
Decided this morning would begin my search for a french bakery in CO. This was my first bakery stop on this quest. I will start with the positives: friendly service, not a long wait and reasonable prices. Food wise, the inside of the "croissant" was soft. Following the positives there was not much left to redeem this place. The overall food selection is a poor representation of what a French bakery typically offers. The selection as a whole wasn't anything worth the hype. Can't say where a good French bakery is in CO yet but this isn't it.

Lu C.

Yelp
The people were super nice. They did their job with efficiency and grace. The place was super cozy and welcoming. All the food looked amazing, the napoleons were 10/10. Would recommend

Krista H.

Yelp
My only complaint is that I wish I lived closer to this bakery! I can't speak more highly of this place. Their coffee is spot on, their bread is fresh every morning and they have SO many options. I got their almond croissant, multigrain bread, and rustic French baguette. The croissant was the best I've had and the multigrain bread was so soft and fresh. Don't walk, run to Trompeau.

Brianna A.

Yelp
I have only purchased croissants from here, but they are so delectable. Friendly staff and speedy service! I enjoyed them so much I chose to use them for catering for a work celebration! Must try: cream cheese croissant

Emily M.

Yelp
The croissants are quite good. But the desserts are American style with frosting and heavy sugar. This is not a French bakery--its an American bakery with a mild French aesthetic. The people who have been leaving good reviews must really like the sugar heavy American treats that were popular in the 1940s through the 1970s. Personally, I could only manage a bite of the eclair and the Napoleon. Instead of having whipped custard in the center, they use a thick sugary, cannoli-esque paste. Instead of a chocolate glaze, they use chocolate frosting. Each to their own, I suppose, but I wish they would not pretend to be a French bakery.

David C.

Yelp
Always good pastries when they are open and fresh. I wish they had more lemon and almond paste filled options, but they have a good selection of sweet and savory pastries.

Anne D.

Yelp
As part of our Colorado visit, we were craving delicious pastries. Trompeau Bakery hit the spot with their wonderful croissants. We tried the classic croissant, guava cheese croissant (my favorite), and almond croissant. They were so tasty that we took home almond chocolate croissant and blueberry cheese croissant. Definitely a must visit again next time we come to Colorado from LA.

Hailee C.

Yelp
The ham and cheese croissant is so gooey and savory. I'm so happy I live close enough to pop in randomly. I actually walk here and thus feel I can justify eating a few pastries (a little reward!). I love French food. Just saying because it makes me happy to live close to a French bakery. The almond croissants are also delightful. So crunchy but chewy and sweet.

Katie F.

Yelp
Having heard the buzz on this spot for years now (thanks Britt H!), I had yet to make the trip to Englewood to see what the fuss was about. So, in kicking off my sister's birthday (day), my mom, sister and I stopped into this cute little spot to get our pastry and coffee fix before heading out for a day of fun. ++ The space is seriously so cute. Decorated with a French flare (maps of Paris line the walls), the space is bright, colorful and feels as if you've been transported to France for breakfast! A variety of seating is offered for dine in inside, along with their cute patio out front! COVID restrictions are in place for social distancing and mask wearing! ++ Service was beyond friendly! Being our first visit, we took ample time to check the menu, seeking the best options from the cases filled with pastries in front of us and not once did we feel rushed! Our orders were whipped up quickly and delivered to our table all with a smile! ++ A variety of drinks are available for purchase, including wine and beer in the afternoon hours! Because I hadn't had any coffee yet, I opted for an Americano with cream, while my sister and mom settled on two Carmel macchiatos, which were perfectly sweet and creamy! ++ Trompeau is known for their outstanding pastries, which we happily took advantage of trying - and OMG. SO so good! We opted to try the Almond Croissant, Apple Cinnamon pastry, Blueberry Lemon pastry, Apricot Oranais, Chocolate stuffed croissant, the mushroom herb croissant (for a more savory taste!) - All of which was literally the best thing ever! The crust was light and flaky, and so buttery! YUM! We also opted to try their house made quiches - the Broccoli Bacon Cheddar and Spinach Feta Bacon - which were to DIE FOR!! ++ Pricing is on point, with each pastry about $4, with sandwiches and stuffed crepes for around $5.50! Not a bad deal, if I say so myself! J Well, I can certainly say, the rumors about this place are true and it's no mystery as to why there is always a line out the door! I can't wait to introduce others to this cute little gem!

Randy B.

Yelp
Talk about living off of your past reputation! These guys have gone downhill so far they are at the lowest level possible. What a disappointment. Dry. Flavorless. Expensive. What a shame.

Lisa S.

Yelp
Fresh and delicious bakery items made every morning! Priced fair. Staff is always extremely busy but always friendly and helpful.

Hanna A.

Yelp
I'm always on the hunt for a bakery that has great coffee and a nice savory pastry selection, and this place checks all the boxes :) Fast and friendly service too.

Savanna B.

Yelp
OMG yum! I could honestly end this review with those two words...it's all anyone really needs to know. My son and I stopped in the other day on our way home from my brothers. It's very clean and bright and smells delightful. The woman who helped us was very friendly. We ordered a mushroom and Swiss croissant (very good, with something mildly spicy inside), a blueberry almond croissant (also tasty, although my son attempted to just eat the filling, so I mostly just got pastry), and my personal favorite, a sugar brioche. The woman who helped us recommended a cookie god my son- she said they're her favorite. I should have known that they'd be amazing if they were a favorite, because they were. My son is usually great at sharing but he refused to share any of it with me until he was done. And even partially squashed and chewed on it was a fantastic cookie. Even though my brother is the one lucky enough to live around the corner, at least I have him as an excuse to drop by Trompeau when we visit him!

Cassie P.

Yelp
I came to Trompeau on a whim and am so happy I did! I was turned onto the bakery by Steam Espresso Bar which sells some of their goods, but wanted to see everything they had to offer at the actual shop. I was greeted right away upon walking in and took time to marvel at all that there was in the cases before me. I walked out with a ham and cheese croissant, chocolate croissant, and an apple, turkey and brie sandwich, along with a double espresso for good measure. The croissants were honestly the best I've had in such a long time. I live about 20 minutes away and with one bite in, I knew I would be coming back time and time again. Soft, buttery, the right amount of flakey... So good! The sandwich was made on their French baguette and really delicious as well. From quiches and bread, to cookies and cinnamon rolls, there's so much to try. I was really blown away by the service and how quickly I was in and out. There's low capacity, distanced seating inside, and a decent amount of tables outside. Definitely felt safe as it relates to COVID. Definitely needed this morning pick me up and would encourage others to do the same!

Kelly T.

Yelp
What happened to this place? The people have always been lovely and the croissants were phenomenal but now they are horrid!! They used to be light with just the right amount of crunch and now they are dense and too sweet. I went twice because I thought maybe I got a bad batch but both times I threw out my croissant. I am so sad, this used to be a great treat.

Shanti D.

Yelp
Horrible food. Won't go back. None of the food had any flavor. Threw it all in the trash. White baguette has a sour dough flavor to it. Baguette has nothing to do with France.

Nika T.

Yelp
Amazing pastries, sandwiches and breads. We love the filled croissants. Even a day later they're still crunchy, tender and buttery. The bread loaves are amazing and it makes their sandwiches so good. I love the blueberry cream cheese croissant a lot and also the raspberry chocolate. Service was pleasant and even mid afternoon on a Saturday the selection isn't bad. They have frozen quiches for $20 they serve 4-6 so don't forget to see what flavors they have!

Joe Y.

Yelp
Get here early for the croissants (open @6am) They have multiple sweet and savory options. Plenty of table for dine in and patio seating. Will be back to try lunch specials.

T C.

Yelp
Delicious! Love this place and worth the drive across town to grab pastries. I wish it was open on Sundays.

Jennifer W.

Yelp
A++++ Look, unless you're planning a trip to Champs-Élysées this weekend you need to swing by Trompeau Bakery in Englewood. Good French bakeries are charming, enticing places, brimming with crisp baguettes, buttery viennoiseries and heavenly pastries! Make no mistake Trompeau Bakery is all this and more! To be called a boulangerie, a French bakery must bake bread on the premises. Trompeau makes and bakes everything from scratch and you can taste it in every bite. Be ready for a small wait, with a line out the door at 8:00am, arrive early to get your weekend favorites and enjoy the quaint atmosphere of the decor and people. The staff is wonderful and answers questions over and over again with the same enthusiasm each time. The ham and cheese croissants are one of my family favorites and you can find them in my kitchen nearly every weekend. So lucky to have this GEM in my backyard!! Enjoy!!

Kimberly A.

Yelp
Trompeau really transports you to France with their interior cafe space and their delightful pastries. Do not miss the APRICOT ORANAIS with true apricots softly and sweetly baked into their delicious flaky pastry. The light shiny glaze gives it a just hint of sweetness. The quality of their product is unparalleled. This is truly a treasure and a bucket list spot for Denverites.

Adam D.

Yelp
Wonderful selection of warm and cool pastries. The quiches are the bomb, and they have a nice barista and tea also

Andrea K.

Yelp
I came here because I wanted to get a cake for Epiphany (January 6). I've decided to celebrate everything this year and read up on how big the holiday is in France. I'd tried the New Orleans version of the King Cake and was largely unimpressed. So when I read about the Galettes des Rois, basically a pie crust with an almond paste filling, I knew that was what I wanted to try. I looked around at French Bakeries and came up with Tompeau. Viola! The Galette des Rois was incredibly delicious. Flaky crust, sweet and velvety filling that was not cloyingly sweet. It even comes with the figurine baked inside and a crown for the lucky finder. We had a really yummy time trying to find that figurine! While at the bakery, we decided to get some other items for lunch. It was about 11:00, I think, and they were already out of quite a bit. I tried the spinach and pepper quiche, while Hubs had Chile Relleaux, and my little chose the ham and cheese crossiant. The crowd favorite was the ham and cheese crossiant. I do think these items would have been better right away in the morning. Alas, we are not morning people and probably won't come back for any of that. But I will definitely return next Epiphany for the Galette des Rois! May need to try out some of the other french desserts as well. Perhaps a Buche de Noel at Christmas??

Kimberly C.

Yelp
I was at this bakery at this bakery about 8:00 am and there was already a line outside. Don't worry though there are multiple people helping with orders and it goes fast. Nice job! The French loaf bread was so good. The family ate this in two days! WOW! Perfect size cheese cake for two. It was delicious and so inviting. The fruit tart was so pleasing and colorful to the eye. The crust was hard to break but the flavor is so good. The creme brûlée was very tasty and the aroma was even better. The bakery had a line outside for 1.5 hours I was there. Next time you stop in say hi to Goldye. She helped with my order and engage with me like we were friends. Thank you Goldye for the amazing customer service. See ya soon!

Brittany C.

Yelp
What a wonderful discovery! Fresh bread, huge pastries, and very delicious baked goods. There was a line out the door on Saturday morning but it moved quickly. The Chili Relleneaux croissant was a star for me - it had green chilies and cheese inside. We also tried the turkey and cheese croissant and the mini quiche. Yum!

Kevin T.

Yelp
Trompeau bakery is an Englewood gem. It's hard to pick a favorite pastry but I do love the custard filled ones. Their quiche and sandwiches are great if you are in the mood for something savory. There are always seasonal and holiday goodies. Go early because they do get bought out. Grab a loaf of chibatti or rosemary garlic bread too. It's crunchy on the outside and creamy on the inside

Addison S.

Yelp
Wildly disappointed. I have followed Trompeau from one location to another. On my most recent (and final) visit I witnessed three employees actively working in the bakery preparing foods without masks. I said something to a clerk and it was dismissed suggesting this is the norm and no surprise in the midst of a pandemic. There are many health regulations overseeing food prep - if they are going to disregard this order from the dept of health, what other food prep guidelines are being dismissed? Disappointing.

Alessandro M.

Yelp
Nice baguette and croissant with blueberry filling A bit sugary and creamy but the main part taste good and fresh

Jill M.

Yelp
I picked up a couple of almond croissants for my fiancé's birthday along with a peach croissant for myself. Hands down - best croissants both of us have ever had. Everything you look for in a croissant and more - an absolute must try!

Jeff M.

Yelp
I love Trompeau. The cinnamon rolls are the best in the city. I also like the almond croissants. The only problem is I live a little ways away and by the time I get there sometimes they are sold out.

Hanh P.

Yelp
This place is a baking machine! How could you not want to carb binge when you see carts and carts of freshly baked french bread? The genius bakers roll these carts out onto the side walk to lure innocent bystanders trying to diet. I challenge you to resist this buttery goodness! I was never a fan of raspberry croissants until now... the holy matrimony of raspberry and dark chocolate... Till death do these 2 part. Get lost PB&J... There's a new celebrity couple in town. I was there at 7:30... By 7:45... Sold out. But don't worry... there are plenty of pastries that will bring you the same level of ecstasy. Like the almond croissant. Or chocolate coconut. The reason why these pastries are great is because of the pastry dough... they come out flakey on the outside with endless layers inside of chewy goodness. A good croissant is just that... flakey crust, and layers of buttery chewy/elastic pastry inside. Even in France I had to search for good croissants. Not all bakeries are created equal. Trompeau... you are the King in Denver.

Austin B.

Yelp
Best pastry spot in the city. A bit overpriced but definitely worth stopping by if you are in town.

Jacqueline B.

Yelp
Good pastries. Nice little outdoor seating next to the parking lot. Worth the trip from Littleton.

Devin C.

Yelp
This is an excellent French bakery. The croissants are simply spectacular with wonderful flavor combos. It is best if you arrive early for the largest selection of croissants, from sweet to savory, I'm not sure you can really go wrong. Coffees/lattes are tasty as well. I first visited the bakery before my trip to Paris to see what basic French cuisine/breakfast might be like. After eating my way through Paris and returning to Trompeau Bakery, it's like a tastebud trip back to France for breakfast when I need/want an indulgence. A line (out the door especially in Covid times) isn't unheard of, but the end result is so very much worth it. Do yourself the favor and relax into a tasty pastry breakfast here.

That One G.

Yelp
This is the best place in Denver by far for fresh breakfast pastries that actually taste as good as they look. Lots of places in town have appealing breakfast pastries but the taste doesn't match the appearance. The first time I ate a cream cheese raspberry danish from here driving back to my house I almost wrecked my car because I was so overwhelmed by how decadent and juicy the danish was and I my mind was blown, if you have friends visiting from out of town take them here. You definitely have to get there very early to have a better selection as they sell out but you can place orders days ahead if you want a special box of pastries ready. This place is legit, I hope they serve these danishes in heaven.

Abby G.

Yelp
My first time to this bakery today! We enjoyed the patio before it got too hot! They have a parking lot with ample parking spaces and trees that provide some shade to the patio. The staff was fabulous! We had fresh pastries out of the oven and cold brewed coffee. The staff shared with us that they were so thankful for customers to help them get through the pandemic and are thriving! The store was clean, good sanitation practices and not crowded, but busy! You'll have to check out the almond croissants and the pan chocolate! Delicious! Will definitely be coming back!
