Day Trips in Berlin

"There’s something surreally Truman Show about this ersatz tropical island, not least that it’s set inside an immense aircraft building in the middle of nowhere. Though a little ominous from the outside, inside you’ll find a truly exotic mix of palm trees and sandy beaches, waterfalls and saunas, flamingos and floating hot-air balloons — plus of course several swimming areas with numerous water slides, both inside and outside. You can even stay overnight in a tent or lodge, and there are 13 bars and restaurants offering a mix of Asian, American, and European cuisine so you can happily spend a day or two here." - MATADOR_NETWORK

A Day at Tropical Islands Berlin | Bon Appétit

"Housed in a repurposed WWII-era airfield hangar about an hour from Berlin, this cavernous tropical dome recreates a warm, humid vacation world with sandy beaches, a man-made “sea” the size of three Olympic pools, and what is billed as the world’s largest indoor rainforest—roughly 50,000 plants across some 600 species—plus exotic fish and resident flamingos. Inside are oversized attractions and amenities: a record-setting water slide tower, a snaking waterslide system, a lazy river, a massive wellness and spa complex with oversized crystals and a carved stone elephant, mini golf, hot-air-balloon rides, themed theaters, restaurants serving signature excesses (think corn poulard with popcorn and solid salmon teriyaki), overnight tent accommodations, and family-focused play areas including a 275,000-ball ball pit. The environment is carefully staged—UV-filtered light, piped nature sounds, faux sunsets and imported Southeast Asian structures by commissioned artisans—but that artifice produces mixed effects: the steady high-seventies heat, 50% humidity, limited fresh air, pervasive echo and condensation can feel stifling and prisonlike, and the simulated atmosphere highlights limits of authenticity (captivity concerns about flamingos and other wildlife cropped up for the author). It’s extremely convenient and kid-friendly—an affordable substitute for overseas travel with virtually everything a short walk away—and draws many visitors (about 1.2 million last year, with around 40% staying overnight), yet for some the place’s theatricality and sensory intensity leave them restless rather than rejuvenated." - ByAlex Ronan

We are a family of 3 (one 9 year old) and had a lovely few days at Tropical islands. |We arrived by train and shuttle bus was efficient and free to get to the dome. We had an electronic barcode so check in was quick and we were able to leave luggage and store valuables in lockers. |The park itself was very good. We were there Wed-Sat and it didn't feel overcrowded. We could get loungers easily and queues for slides etc were short. There aren't a lot of slides if you're looking for that for teenagers, bit it was perfect for our 9 year old and kept us occupied easily. She was also delighted to see real flamingos! |The sauna was good too for relaxing. |We stayed in a nature home, which was lovely, comfortable and clean. It was about 10 mins from the dome but the shuttle bus was easy. |The food options were fine, with some variety. It's not cheap but what you would expect from this sort of holiday park. |We also played 10 pin bowling and mini golf.|Some things were not open or closed earlier than expected, which was disappointing but did not effect the overall positive experience. |Would definitely return.

The largest indoor water park? Yes, that might be true. But not everything is about swimming — a lot of it is games, shops, and restaurants. Still, it has a very lovely atmosphere. The air felt like a sunny holiday abroad. The water was warm and very pleasant to swim in. We purchased the all-inclusive food option, which turned out to be a bit unnecessary, especially if you’re only visiting for the day. It might be more worthwhile if you’re staying overnight at the resort. However, there was very poor information for visitors coming from abroad. We constantly had to ask around because nothing was clearly explained. We didn’t know where we were allowed to eat, what was included, or even where to get the cup for the free drinks. We still had fun and would recommend it to others. But please — more information in English would be greatly appreciated.

Date of visit Aug 12, I cannot believe how much this resort has gone down hill in 2 years, I have previously recommended this place to many people and all over social media as it WAS amazing, HOWEVER THIS IS NOT THE CASE ANYMORE, NOW I WILL AVOID IT AT ALL COSTS - this place is overcrowded, dirty, expensive and the staff are extremely rude. The staff are extremely rude, unhelpful and has no customer service skills at all, especially staff at the breakfast buffet including one female staff member who insisted we moved while we was eating. We was sat in the extended area (no other tables free) which was open until exactly 10.30 and at 10.35 we was just finishing our food and she insisted we moved in to another part of the restaurant and even waited until we moved. The staff at the help and info desk isn’t helpful either, so many people complaining (it’s not surprising) the staff just ignore you and walk off including the managers, I waited 75 minutes in-line or various lines after being sent from one line to another to complain about the first room they offered us, (this room was next to the smoking lounge and all you could smell was stale smoke and used fryer oil, it was disgusting). The room they gave me instead was disgraceful, we found the rooms are dated and dirty, our room was 1204 (AVOID AT ALL COSTS) it was literally a dungeon below the arcade area, we stayed there for 3 nights and it wasn’t cleaned, or the bins emptied or we wasn’t even offered fresh towels once. The food was very repetitive, tasteless and look-warm. The buffet restaurant was extremely expensive and didn’t even include a drink. The place was superficial clean, on the top layer was fine but underneath it was filthy even the pools. Don’t expect to get a sun lounger or deck chair after 8am. I feel extremely disappointed and cheated I wasted £600 on this trip, this was a holiday from hell. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND GO ANYWHERE ELSE BUT HERE!

Our family of 5 (kids 18, 16 and 12) had a great day at Tropical Islands. We took the train from Berlin and the shuttle bus was waiting for us. The tropical dome was super cool, we loved the tropical rainforest and the animal and butterfly displays. Both the inside pools were lovely and warm, we bagged deck chairs next to the south sea pool in the morning no problem. The big slides were fun, there's not a huge variety but they were smooth and fast. We enjoyed the River rapids and lazy river outside. Overall it wasn't quite as exciting as O'Gliss in the Vendee, but the pools were better and no danger of getting burnt. The food was nice, we ate from the food court which was comparable prices to a city centre e g. 11 euro for a margarita pizza.

We had an amazing time at Tropical Islands, and it was truly a perfect getaway for the whole family! Getting there from Berlin was incredibly simple just a straightforward drive, and parking was easy and hassle-free. From the moment we arrived, everything felt smooth and well-organized. The water park was a huge hit, especially for my 6-year-old. There were plenty of exciting areas for kids to play and explore, and he had an absolute blast. As for me, I really enjoyed the pool areas, which were pleasantly warm and relaxing perfect for parents looking to unwind while the kids are having fun. One thing that surprised me was the quality of the food. There was a wide variety of choices that catered to both adults and kids everything from hearty meals to lighter options, all of it fresh and really tasty. On top of it all, the entire place was spotlessly clean, which made a big difference in the overall comfort of the experience. We’ll definitely be coming back it’s a great family destination and totally worth the visit!

If you want to spend the night, remember that inside it is Tropical environment. If you have problems sleeping when warm, then reconsider. The safari tent were functional and enough space for the 6 of us in the family. The evening buffet was better than ok but the breakfast buffet was really great. The staff was friendly, calm and very helpful! I strongly recommend!

We have been there already twice and both stays were amazing. It’s crowded but not so much - just need to be patient to wait in the queue for attractions. Breakfast is delicious and also variety of food/lunch is big enough to meet everyone’s expectations. We stayed once in Tipi (nice and in the middle of everything) and once in Ohana (clean, big enough for 2+3 family, quiet). Summing up patience is needed for waiting for a lift in Ohana, waiting in queue for slides and waiting in the queue to register and Information service. Staff is friendly, working hard and helpful.

The park itself was great, lots of fun attractions including many swimming pools and slides. However the food was pricey and didn’t have enough options. I don’t recommend staying overnight as the rooms or “rooms” are quite expensive. We stayed in the tents and it wasn’t worth it. They didn’t give us much information about how the systems work with food and refillable drinks. I suggest only being a day guest and not staying overnight. Omg the public showers!!! They had public showers with no personal space or privacy. Disgusting.

Yelp
This place is amazing for all ages! Free Transportation from the train station is possible. You must get to the Brand Tropical Island stop. From the main Bahnhof you go to Ostkruez then to Brand Tropical Islands (U5 towards Cottbus). That's where the shuttle will pick you up. Check Tropical Islands website for the schedule. Just note that this train station is not in use (there isn't an attendant, snacks or anything like that). The obvious issue is the language barrier especially at check in. Poor guy that checked us in was not good nor comfortable speaking English. We got through most of it and another employee finished the briefing. Most employees in the other areas spoke English or at least enough for our interactions. Another thing that was a con for us was the rooms did not have face towels. Not a big deal but was annoying. Upon arrival you are able to enjoy everything immediately even if your room isn't available. They will store your bigger pieces of luggage and you can use the lockers in the changing room for smaller bags. Wifi is good everywhere inside the dome. Can't speak for the Amazonia area as I didn't have my phone out there. Walking to rooms can be loud due to hard walkers and the way the platform is made. This can even be heard on the second floor. There are about 3 different gift shops there to purchase things. They have chargers for sure but didn't check for other items that may be forgotten. They definitely have pool items such as goggles and floats. The air pump is right outside the kid shop. When staying over night you receive a wrist band that can unlock your room, lock and unlock lockers as well as purchase food and other things at the stands. (I'm not sure if this applies to those that come out for the day). When leaving you can use the kiosk to total out or you can pay at the exit gate. Adult bands can charge up to about €200 and kids is €35. The water depth is 5ft for all bodies of water in the dome minus the slides. Pools have a metal bottom. Feels weird but we wore water shoes so it was a little slippery for us but once we adapted we were good. There are multiple slides throughout the dome. One section has 4 slides. This area the kids must be certain ages and most do not allow more than one to go down together. The blue slide is the highest. Yellow is next with red slide allowing tubes and green is for mainly for the littles. In the other section where the "beach" is there are a bunch of family friendly slides that does allow for 2 to go down together. There is 2 more slides in another section that typically only one person goes unless a little is with the parents. One slide is dark with a strobe type light and the other has lights all the way to the end. There is a "beach" area that has sand and lots of lawn chairs. I've been in the past and chairs were not used on the sand so it allowed/encouraged sand castle building/play. It's not as easy now to do. Food places are cool but it sucks trying to figure out what is open at what time as that is not listed on the map especially after breakfast is over and lunch has not fully started yet. The food court is cool when you catch them at the right time. Some staff members just didn't seem to care. They messed up our burger. When we returned to get another one we found out a few others were in the same boat. One lady was given cold pasta. Pizza may be best but we didn't try it. Breakfast was included with our rooms. It's from 8:30 to 9:30. It's a typical German breakfast. They do have waffle, pancakes and two types of scrambled eggs. There is an area for kids for games and things such as bumper cars and such. They cost €1,20. There's also table tennis and air hockey tables as well. There is a spa area but I didn't utilize it. There are also tanning beds. One bar area called Bora Bora was cool as that's were most of the smokers hung out since they had 2 big areas enclosed to smoke in. This area is also only for 18 and up. People were also going to the Amazonia area to smoke there as well. All the bars have the same drink list. Bora Bora did have a daiquiri machine. Also they have nachos. Balloon ride is €39 plus €6 for adults and €3 for kids. The Amazonia area has two parts that are open in winter months. One is a fast river that pushes you over the hills and dips pretty fast. Not sure if there is an age requirement but due to how it was pushing us through and unknown hills/dips I wouldn't recommend little kids until you have tried it yourself. The other side had a lazy river feel that allowed you to float around. You also could go sit on the wall and relax. The water is warmer so it was nice with the cool winter breeze. There was also another pool but was closed during the winter month. The TV in the room only offered news channels. That was a little disappointing as I figured with it being a family friendly establishment there would at least have a cartoon type channel.

Yelp
We've spent 2 days in the Tropical Islands with an overnight stay in a Premium Tent. Unfortunately, it was a terrible experience, and it felt like everyone there was just preying on our money, while also being rude to us: 1. For context, paying for service inside Tropical Islands happens with a microchip and then you pay the whole bill for each of the microchips during the trip. On the first day of our trip, my wife used her microchip to buy 1 frozen yogurt with no toppings, but the seller charged her for 2 frozen yogurts with toppings and somehow even managed to charge me for another frozen yogurt with toppings even though I didn't buy anything and didn't even tap my microchip! There are only 2 possible explanations that I see here, the more favorable one is that the seller was just extremely incompetent and didn't know how to operate the cash register, or the person didn't like foreigners and wanted to charge us more out of spite. TL;DR we should've paid €5.90, but we paid €22.20 for a frozen yogurt. 2. Water extortion. Tropical Islands FAQ says that you cannot bring your own drinks in "for reasons of hygiene". After we arrived, we weren't able to find water for less than €4.50 per small bottle, which is an unbelievable extortion. What makes it even worse is that the temperature inside is very high, so, even if you don't decide to go to saunas, it's impossible to survive inside without drinking lots of water. The solution that they've developed is selling refillable bottles for €18 a day, however, even that does come with issues: - It's not just water but also soda, so you can only refill it once every 45 minutes. - There's a microchip that will prevent you from refilling it after 11:59 PM. If buy the bottle at 11:30 PM and could fill it only once, you will pay the same price as if you bought it at 7:00 AM and could re-fill it 22 times. - You can only buy them at stores/bars/restaurants, so you can forget about doing so at night to have a supply of water for your sleep - If you want to use the bottle the next day, you need to pay again. IMO they should give you a heads-up about the water situation, my wife was sick and needed a lot of hydration, so we weren't prepared for this. 3. Stealing. When going to the water/sauna, we had to leave our towels unattended for a short time, which resulted in them being stolen. What was the worst about the situation was how the staff completely didn't care about this and dismissed us saying that we could go and rent their towels for €4.50 each or buy them from their store for €39.99 each. 4. It constantly feels like the staff doesn't want to talk with foreigners (we are from the US). We don't expect that everyone will be able to speak English, but it would've been nice if everyone wasn't trying to dismiss us as soon as possible and rudely ignore our problems and concerns just because of a language barrier. We had to rely on the information available on the website, which was sometimes conflicting and insufficient. 5. We tried ~3-5 different Visa/Mastercard credit cards and only one worked when it came down to paying. Please be prepared to come with cash to avoid issues, especially if you are coming from abroad. 6. Sleeping conditions were horrible due to the temperature. Our whole bed was wet from sweat in the night. I understand that our accommodations didn't come with AC, but we didn't expect that it would be so hot inside especially given that the temperature inside is maintained artificially - it was freezing outside of the complex. 7. They had several scanners for your microchips so that you can read and check how much money you've already spent, however, the information was in German (even if you turned on English), and the majority of the readers that we've found we inoperable. 8. WiFi wasn't available everywhere, only in some parts of the complex (notably, no wifi in your tent). This was especially inconvenient given that we've had very limited mobile internet as foreigners.

Yelp
During our trip to Berlin, we decided to visit the famous Tropical Island. We knew COVID was happening and were glad that it was open. We did our research and booked oit tickets in advance (about a week before) and had no problems choosing our date even with a shorter notice. Upon arrivial, you can see that there is plenty of parking available. It is a hike to get to the entrance. The line to enter was extremely long, over an hour wait to get in. With with these waits, they should consider putting a bathroom outside. Eventually when we got in, we felt a bit lost trying but after we got our bearing we were on our way. Even with reduced numbers, finding a locker took a while. After getting dressed and heading to the pool, there was no beach chairs available and ended up getting a tight spot in the sand. The pools were pretty nice and warm. People seemed friendly and happy. We had the lunch buffet at the indian place which was 20 euros each adult plus a 10 euro deposit for an arm band and a 2 euro deposit for the cup. We had issues when we left because the restaurant didnt refund us the deposits, but thankfully we kept the receipts. The food was pretty good and the selection of all you can eat Indian was nice. Wish they would include coffee though. We stayed from 12 until almost 8pm. Our big disappointment was that about half the slides were closed. This is a big no go if you are still charging full price for entrance and at 91 euros for two people. While its a nice water park, I have been to much better ones in other places in Germany. Good to visit once but we likely wont come back.

Colette R.

Yelp
Planned this trip for weeks for my daughter's birthday. She arrived there which takes some planning only to find all the large slides shut down for maintenance. The large slides are the main attraction! And it's winter break for kids! Whats wrong with this establishment? And they didn't even offer a reduced fare or voucher. When I tried to call the establishment, I get hung up on. I tried to submit a written complaint and the web page kicks me out! I wouldn't support this Waterpark!

Ivy C.

Yelp
Cool idea, but the experience isn't as great. During peak Covid it's supposed to be 50% capacity, but it is fuller than ever. There are so many people, long lines, no seats or lockers. Hotel rooms are spread throughout random areas in the middle of the park, so you don't get a nice quiet corner. It's loud everywhere and in the middle of everything.

Yelp
We first heard about the Tropical Island south of Berlin driving down to the Spreewald. Like an enormous metallic pimple, it stood out against northern Germany's flat terrain. Intrigued by this bizarre structure, I snooped it out online. It is indeed an indoor water park - one of the largest of its kind - and it didn't actually house zeppelins (though that is a persistent rumor). And it is large at 360 metres long, 210 metres wide and a 107 metres high. That means that it is big enough to fit the Statue of Liberty standing up, the Eiffel Tower lying down, or all of Potsdamer Platz including skyscrapers. Damn Tropical Island - you big! Trains run straight from Alexanderplatz to Brand, the closest stop to Tropical Island. From there, a free shuttle bus picks you up and drops visitors off at the campgrounds, outdoor attraction center, and finally....Hello Tropical Island! There are two basic packages available - one for the water park (Tropical World) and one for the saunas. The smart deal is the package that allows you to visit both. It is fairly expensive at just under 40 euros for the joint ticket, but there are frequent deals (we went on a buy-one-get-one-free deal). Unfortunately, things like the slides, rides, and balloon rides all cost more money. I hate being nickle & dimed so this was irksome. However, with just a one-day visit we actually found there was plenty to do without the extras so maybe it's a draw. Also note that there are other discounts for students and senors, but the price remains the same throughout the year. Accommodations - There are tents, rooms within all of the themed structures and camp spots as available. As the ride from Berlin was only about an hour in total, it was easy for us to just go home that night when we had enough.

Yelp
This place was alight. The outdoor part was not open when we were there. We stayed in an actual room, like a hotel room. We thought about the tents and I'm glad we didn't stay in them. They are packed together and in sand, it looked miserable. It's really very big with a large ball pit (old pool), climbing structure, and other huge pools. There is not really a lot here for little kids to do. Our kids were 7, 4, and 2 and the 2 year old didn't have any place that she could really play without being held the whole time. There are large slides and my older 2 went on some of those, but even the big slides are often so slow you even stop while going down. Not a whole lot of fun and potentially dangerous. They kids slide area was closed on Sunday night when we were there and even when it was open on Monday the biggest slides there were blocked off. We were in the pool next to this on Sunday, which is open and pretty deep. Suddenly Monday my kids are being kicked out and told they must be with an adult at all times.... So I guess it's perfectly okay to potentially drown on Sunday, but not Monday. Ridiculous. We ate at the buffet for dinner and breakfast. Both were okay. Dinner buffet was like 20 for adults and 8 for kids. Decent selection I guess. Breakfast was also an alright selection of things. THINGS TO KNOW: bring your own towels. They do have them to borrow, but you will put a 30 deposit on each one and then be paranoid they will go missing... just bring your own. The plastic cups they give you have like a 2 or 3 euro pfand on them! They will not tell you this, so you will likely just leave them on the table when you get up... but you will certainly be charged for them when you leave. I had to learn this by reading another review and even when I specifically asked the guy he pretended he didn't speak English. I think this is a big money maker for them and frankly it's pretty sketchy. Overall the kids seemed to enjoy themselves which was the point of going, but I think there are better waterparks available in Europe. I don't think we would return here.

Yelp
Like life generally, your enjoyment of Tropical Islands has a lot do to with your expectations. We went on a Friday in June and it was not crowded, easy to find a chair and space in the pool. I found the air and water temperature very comfortable. Not too humid but great for walking around in just a swimsuit. We took our 6 month old and had an amazing time splashing around in their two large pools. We went on their three large waterslides. There was a wait for the slides but it was quite reasonable. There was amply space to push and park a stroller with many changing tables. I was surprised at how baby friendly it was. There are many restaurants with prices slightly higher than a normal restaurant but definitely lower than I'd expect at an amusement park. Everything was very clean and safe. I think this place is absolute heaven for children. There were many little slides and spraying/splashing areas for small children as well as an elaborate dry playground. There are some activities that cost extra, hot air balloon rides, mini golf, a sauna, and shows. I prefer this system as the tickets are already a little expensive and I don't want to pay for anything else I'm not going to use. However, I got in free as it was my birthday, a great deal! Easy to get to, the Brand train stop is completely desolate so don't plan on buying anything there.

Camilla C.

Yelp
Not worth the money or travel. This was the worst stop on our 2 week vacation. The food is awful. There are no water fountains. If you want a cup for water you have to pay a deposit. Kids were swimming without diapers! It was one thing after another. My wife sprained her ankle and we couldn't even get ice or an ace bandage. They offered to get us a cab at 1am to the hospital which was 45 min away. The worst part came when we checked out after not sleeping because of a crying baby next to our tent. But when we checked out they charged us for our towels. 2 were stolen from outside our tent, they were hung up on the designated line. 2 towels and they charged us for 4. We told them we only rented 2. We had a group of 4 and they said they did,'t care. The man helping us did the same thing to the family before us as well. They charge you for everything even things you don't use. By far the WORST customer service I have ever encountered in Europe. Pretty much non existent! I love water parks and this was just a GIANT disappointment. Don't waste your money. Go to a real water park!

Yelp
One of the world's largest indoor beach resorts. An absolutely wonderful time for visitors of all ages. Tropical Islands is located on the outskirts of Berlin, but is easily reachable by train from the lower level of Berlin's Hbf. Resort offers spa treatments, several full-service restaurants, the beach (of course) and live entertainment shows. Unisex sauna is nude. Check the website for family specials. Extended stays at the resort's neighboring hotels will include free admission to the park for entire family. Factoid: Admission on your birthday is free.

Yelp
Great place to relax all day long especially on a cold winter day! Clean in all areas, personnel helpful and polite, facilities were good! Both main pools clean and temperatures simulating real tropical climates. Beverages and food kind of expensive but good quality.

Yelp
Having lived in Scotland almost all of my life it's been interesting experiencing the difference in weather living in Berlin. I'm well used to the rain as being described as good Scottish weather, however I'm seeing enough of it to realise that in winter I'm going it have very similar weather to Edinburgh, just colder. To escape a cold dreich (Scots for wet and dismal) day in Berlin we headed off to Tropical Islands for a bit of warmth and lots of swimming for the kids. The train ride took just under an hour and we were collected by the resort shuttle bus for the ten minute ride to the former zeppelin freight centre. Unfortunately on arrival we had to queue for about 10 to 15 minutes to complete the registration process. I think this is very poor in this technology day and age especially since you actually pay on the way out. Surely they could provide some online resource to provide all the details they need so you could simply give them a reference number and walk in. My second problem with the resort was the use throughout of buggy unfriendly turnstiles. You are provided with wrist bands that you use to pay for anything from food to extra services. Whilst this is a great idea, so you don't have to worry about watching your wallet while you swim, it's not too good when you have to lift your laden buggy over turnstiles because they were too short-sighted to realise that they may have some customers with small children. I would have thought is one of their prime markets. Fortunately these downsides are quickly overshadowed by what's on offer; the two large pools offer hours of entertainment for the children. The slides becoming a firm favourite quickly with our two. The children play area was great and I think it could have kept our children entertained for a morning or afternoon if there hadn't been the pools and sand to get back to. I've heard conflicting rumours about the future of the resort. From its closing down in to 2008 to they're planning on building a big hotel next to it. I hope it's the later as despite its slightly kitsch artificial Thai theme throughout, our kids had a wonderful time and it was nice to be able to walk around wearing shorts and a t-shirt in the winter.

Yelp
Located not far from the Berlin Dresden motorway, this place is unique! Build in an ancient airport building, you will find a tropical paradise full of surprises. You have places to swim, several amazing saunas, a small hill with an amazing tropical forest where you can take a walk, a mini-golf area, a balloon that rises high to the ceiling for a fantastic view, real sand and many other recreational facilities. We were there a whole afternoon and it will certainly not be our last visit!

Yelp
The resort itself is fantastic but do not even consider staying for overnight. You will be ripped off because it is more expensive than 5 star hotels in Berlin and you won't even get a 3 star service. We stayed here 3 nights (21-24 March) with our 2 small kids and we will never go back again. They never wiped the floor, they never changed the sheets, so the cleaning part was a DISASTER! When our air-conditioner broke down in the evening, they offered us two options: (1) wait until the morning when the technician arrives, (2) change your room from one end of the resort to the other at 9pm when both our kids were already asleep! So pack, carry everything and settle again - fantastic, isn't it? Especially that there were 4 family rooms completely empty beside our room during the entire stay, but they did not even offer one of those for 1 night to solve the problem. Instead, they wanted us to sleep at 31 degrees with 2 small kids, who naturally kept waking up several times at night due to the heat. The reception staff NEVER smiled, they only wanted our money and then did not even show us the directions to the room (the magic elevator is hidden so do not even dare trying to look for it - you won't find it!). More than half of the staff cannot say a word in English and yet they are advertising their resort to Polish, Czech and Hungarian people all the time - so either you speak German, or you have to learn it during your short stay. You will most likely get a room that does not have any real windows, except for the one that looks at the corridor, so you cannot have daylight in your room. There will be a tiny little plastic bottle of shower gel and nothing else, so bring your own shampoo and toiletries. If you ask for a baby bed, they will bring it and drop it in your room - nobody will try to help you assemble it. What else can I say? I would not even pay 100 Euros per night to stay here. Go there, experience the resort from morning to night time, but stay elsewhere - it is simply not worth it.

Yelp
We took the train from Alexanderplatz station in Berlin to the Brand station (which was a bit creepy). Disintegrating buildings seemed to be hidden everywhere behind all the beautiful trees along the tracks. When we exited the train there was a Tropical Island bus awaiting our arrival and we were whisked a way to "tropical paradise." Otherwise known as a former zeppelin hangar - now filled with swimming pools, sand, a mini rainforest, water slides, hot air balloon rides, massages, saunas, and overnight accommodations. Be prepared for a very expensive day!!! My guess is that most people enjoy a visit here to seek some warmth during the long cold winter. But my suggestion would be to save your hard earned $$ and save for a trip to a real island.

Yelp
a nice place to be. lovely good heat of 26-27 degrees and the water is 30-32 degrees. The restaurant Jabarimba has the best breakfast buffet.

Yelp
Not a place to be on a weekend. We were there on Monday and it was really pleasant. We don't have to wait and inside was not so full. We had the Birthday boy with us and he got for free. I personally had nice experince with the staff and all in general. Only minus point is - food quality & prices.

Yelp
Visited on a chilly Sunday in October, and the park was not too crowded. This is definitely a unique place, and a day here really hit the spot after a week of sightseeing in Berlin. It is about one hour from downtown Berlin by train, and there is a free shuttle from the train station to the park. The park itself is located inside a converted Zeppelin hanger where the temperature is kept warm enough for comfortable year-round swimming. It has two large pools with an artificial beach, waterslides, a tropical rainforest, a children's playground, and a spa for adults. Some tips: the park doesn't provide towels, so you'll want to bring some with you. Also recommend bringing flip flops as the park's designers made the curious decision to pave several of the pathways with cobblestones, and walking barefoot can on them can be very uncomfortable. Admission to the park includes a locker where you can put your things, and you are issued a bracelet that you can use to buy concessions, so you don't have to carry money or a wallet with you once inside. I found this park to be very different from waterparks I've visited Stateside. For one, staff is not terribly concerned with safety. For instance, no employees seemed to be monitoring the waterslides, and I saw people doubling up, and even some children standing up while going down the slides. Seemed pretty risky, but maybe I'm just a litigious American. The slides themselves were located at the top of a rickety platform high above the ground that rocks and sways. Normally, I'd have confidence in German engineering, and not let this bother me, but this is after all where they used to park the Hindenburg. At least the lines for slides were short and moved quickly. I paid extra to visit the spa, and recommend it. It is a very German experience, as it is unisex, and people typically go in the nude. It was nice though to wander in and out of the heated steam rooms and then go back to the colder temperature pools or walk around the rainforest. All in all, I definitly recommend this park, even if you don't have small children with you. It is expensive and kitschy, and probably not a must-see if your time in Berlin is limited, but it is unique, and certainly a fun and relaxing way to spend a chilly autumn day.
