The Best Mofongo in San Juan: 15 Spots to Try | Eater

"At Trópiko, mofongo translates perfectly into the fast-casual bowl format, with mashed plantains serving as the base for toppings like arroz mamposteao (tomato-spiked rice and beans), fresh vegetables, and your choice of proteins. You can build your own mofongo plate, or go with one of the house specialties. The Boricua comes with rice and beans, carne frita (fried pork), caramelized onion, sweet plantain, bacon, and mayo-ketchup, while the El Tropical consists of bifongo with mamposteao, steak, caramelized onion, arañitas (nests of fried plantains that resemble a spider’s web), shredded cheese, avocado, and the house sauce, Trópiko aioli. The most popular, though, might be La Vaya, which consists of arroz mamposteao, avocado, ropa vieja, and a drizzle of Trópiko aioli. Pair your meal with a flavored mojito served in a cute pouch." - Gabriela Torres

They have a great variety of house and salad bowls. Loaded fries and chicken nuggets. We ordered the Caribe Bowl and Boricua Bowl. If you want to experience a local dish order the Boricua bowl, the flavors mix so good together and it has the perfect balance with mogongo and bacon. The other bowl we ordered was the caribe bowl, the flavors are amazing with arroz mamposteao’ and avocado. The chicken nuggets are good and the cheese sauce is amazing. The server took a while to take our order, she was the only one there. However, we had a great time and the food is amazing.

Súper yum! I got the Caribe and it was a great combination. My friend ordered the veggie and was very happy with it. Atmosphere is chic and laid back. Service was attentive and quick, everything is neat and clean. Prices are just right. GO!

Great fast Caribbean food. The lady was really helpful and I built my own bowl with local products and the base of mofongo. It was delicious and very filling. The pina colada lemonade was very tasty, too. I highly recommend this place.

I went to the old San Juan. I have nothing bad to say, but no praises either. To me it's a Chipotle concept but of local puertorican cuisine. So when you are in a pinch, want local puertorican/Latin cuisine, and don't want to wait too long for your food, this is the place to go

Google
local Puerto Rican fast casual spot - can create your own bowls similar to chipotle or sweetgreen… but PR food! Bowls are a lot of food! I got mofongo base & added rice & beans for $3 extra.. Variety of meats (try the ropa vieja) and toppings (cheese, corn, mushrooms, onions, etc). Was ~$17 with tax for my bowl.

I used to like Trópiko more (they had decent vegetarian options) and I've had good bowls here, but the experience has gotten progressively worse to the point where I never go anymore. They frequently run out of ingredients, portion sizes are inconsistent, serving temperature is inconsistent, and the serving time can vary but tends to be long even on days when they aren't busy.

Lowkey amazing food and nice setting. Plates are a decent size to get you full and they have a plethora of choices to create your criollo plate. They have piña colada and strawberry slushy as well

Delicious puerto rican bowls & smoothies. The Bifongo bowl was enough food for 2 meals
