19 Restaurants in New York That’ll Fulfill Any Bacon Craving | Eater

"In the heart of the Catskills lies the charming 1940s hotel Glen Falls House, which was revived in 2017 with multiple buildings and a pool. Tucked inside of the 17-room main house is the tavern-like Trotwood Restaurant, serving classic American eats. At brunch, this includes the drool-worthy bacon, egg, & cheese, made with fluffy scrambled eggs, gooey American cheese, crispy bacon, and house-fermented hot sauce on a brioche roll slathered with roasted garlic aioli. When in season, you can add a half-pound of local strawberries, grapes, or cherries as a side —so much better than hash browns." - devorahlevtov

We have both dinner and breakfast here since we stayed in this place. Dinner was great, we love the duck, very tasty, a little pricy though; carrot hummus is interesting to try also! The place is cozy and very crowded! Good food and huge portions for dinner. Breakfast portion is a little small, food is ok 😃

Stopped in here for lunch and the food was delicious! I had their lentil soup and grilled cheese and it was top notch. The restaurant has lovely decor too and the staff was incredibly friendly.

This was our first restaurant after arriving in the area from out of state and it did not disappoint. We had made a reservation, but the relatively empty place rendered this moot. What we found was an environment that was super chill and zen, with good service and a perfect evening meal after a day traveling. We started with a local beer and checked over the menu. After deciding that the chicken (7 pieces) was too much for just me, the food we ended up ordering was amazing. (the online menu might be slightly different than when you go, so be prepared). The burger really was as good as they brag about, and I'm obsessed with the celery root al pastor. The cavatelli was also amazing. Definitely on my list of restaurants to go to next time we're in the area!

What a vibe. We came in the winter and felt soooo cozy! The food, cocktails and wine were excellent! I am so pleased with our meal. Service is relaxed, no kids menu.

Great service and ambiance especially seated by a window. Don’t miss the carrot hummus, it was our favorite dish! Lovely wines and cocktails as well.

I came here for the first time last year for my birthday weekend and it was excellent. I returned this year for my birthday and it was very disappointing. The menu was very blah and the food was meh. Last year on the table they had a few interesting things such as warm olives and homemade focaccia bread and this year nothing. The desserts were carrot cake and chocolate cake. Nothing special or creative at all. Brunch was good but very downscaled from last year. There was one server who was great. A dark haired young male. Everyone else ignored us or plopped down the food. There was an item on the menu called “chiffoned collards”. Literally shredded collards with a little dressing. Very boring, sad and unremarkable on many levels. The chicken pot pie was indeed delicious though but everything else was very mediocre. I’m not coming back. Why all the downgrades? You guys had an exceptional thing going.

The beef stew was the blandest food I’ve tasted in my entire lifetime - 0 out of 10 The wait time was incredibly long for very simple food orders (hour long), and there’s no check-in from the waiting staff or water re-fill The sodas we ordered came with an absurd amount of ice - are you for real? Overall, the decor is nice but everything else is trash I wish I could get my wasted time back but I can’t, but I’d like to make sure no one else sets food in this awful establishment Best

We were excited to finally checkout The Trotwood on a Friday night. The building, decoration and vibe were all promising as we entered an the anticipation grew. Ordered our drinks - one of which had a problem & was returned. The wine was nicely priced and a good pour. No problems there. Then came the food. We were starving and eager to try their food & support a new local biz. Ordered fried chicken sandwich, chicken piccata [I believe was the blue plate] & risotto. Explained to our waiter to please bring out the food as ready - because we were tight on time. Then we ordered another glass of wine. Then we waited. After over an hour had passed, we expressed frustration and asked to pls check on food. Nothing offered to snack on while we waited. Just us and an empty table. We were then told the delay was because the risotto takes a long time to cook. Fairly certain an hour was enough. Finally after 1.5 hours my child received his chicken. The portion of protein was incredibly small for the price, by any standard. Still no fried chicken sandwich or risotto. After feeling lightheaded and after almost 2 hours we decided to go home and try and find something to eat. It was at this exact moment that our food appeared. We declined, paid for our drinks and left. Here's the thing... I respect what they're trying to do here. The food on the neighboring table looked good enough. But it's def not ok to make a table of 3, one of which is a kid, wait for 2 hours for food with very little explanation or care during the wait. They were apologetic as we were leaving, but it's frustrating to go out to eat only to not be served and leave extremely aggravated. I hope they sort this out, and wish them success but I'm still annoyed just thinking about our dinner that never happened there. I've given 2 stars not 1 because hopefully they'll sort this all out. ************************UPDATE************************ While I do appreciate the manager's speedy reply [see below] to my review and offer to contact if we return... I'd suggest having this communication w diners in the restaurant. Had anyone explained to us why the food was taking hours - or even brought us ANYTHING at all along with an apology while we were actually there - I'd be a lot less irritated. I understand new businesses have bumps in the road - this was not your first night open, though it very much felt like it at our table. Hopefully others have a better experience and I really do wish you the best. The area needs restaurants like this if you can sort out times & portion/pricing.

Yelp
Visiting the Catskills early summer and decided to stop here for lunch. WOW... WHAT A SHIT SHOW! The lobby entrance smells like an Abercrombie & Fitch store had a baby with an AXE spray commercial which was pretty nauseating. I was staying nearby and decided to check this place out because we needed to find food for a bunch of hungry kids at 1:40pm. We came as a group of 8 and saw there were available seats so we decided to eat here. Waited by the server stand and didn't get seated for 10 minutes even though there was a big table open. Whatever. Finally got seated and it took the waitress 15 min to come over and take our order. We never saw her again until an hour+ later when our food finally came out. She never even bothered to bring water to our table?! FYI: we ended up eating past 3pm. Ok, maybe they're understaffed and they're super busy? There were a total of 6 tables seated with people and 2 waitresses. Maybe that's a lot in upstate NY standard? The food was good, I'll give the cook that. But maybe the kitchen needs help so it doesn't take over an hour to bring out some eggs or avocado toast? Honestly, the food was a solid 4 star but the horrendous service was a negative so rounding this to a 2 star.

Yelp
Trotwood Restaurant is fantastic and Chef Joey is an incredibly talented chef! My partner and I had several delicious meals at Trotwood and subsequently had our wedding at Glen Falls House in June 2023, in which the food was managed by Chef Joey and was a huge hit! The salads (arugula salad, chopped salad, grain salad), the appetizers/sides (broccolini, potatoes with burnt onion dip, focaccia, pickled vegetables), and entrees (rib eye, slow cooked salmon, and chicken) are fantastic! Service and environment are excellent. Highly recommend this restaurant to anybody stopping by Glen Falls House or in the Round Top area!

Yelp
Caters completely to the "Hipster Crowd" from NYC. I don't know 1 local who goes there. Except me... who went shortly after the opening of Glens Falls. The food was overpriced. Enough to price out the local community. But this is of course by design. While overpriced, it was nothing to write home about. It is a nice venue for the hipsters though. They've done a nice job on the place, and I can see why they come. Loud pool parties, lots of drinking. Half naked women running around drunk. My advice... spring for some childcare and leave your children home. It's NOT a place for a family with kids. WAY not a place for a family with kids! And I've seen plenty of kids in attendance at these pool parties that are ADULT pool parties. If that's your thing, it's great I'm sure, but as far as food goes, there are better places around.

Yelp
Great place!! The staff was so inviting and accommodating. They went out of their way to make us feel like family. The food was great. We order all the sides for our dinner and every one was better than the last.

Yelp
On the upside, great location, great food. Stellar burger and fries. Friendly server. Downsides: menu is online (annoying) and yet poor wifi (one bar signal). cocktail (Mescal Mule) was meh; watery, cheap ice started immediately melting. It's a carbon copy of the wanna-be vintage, country style, that was all the rage in NYC/Brooklyn 10+ years ago. Annoying outdoorsy props like fishing gear (cute in NYC but not cute where people actually fish like the Catskills), vintage sportsmen stuff, prop-quality bongos and vinyl records presumably to be played on the broken turntable. Hipsters take over Catskills .

Yelp
First time to this restaurant won't be the last. Had the smoked trout appetizer and the maple glazed half chicken. Both were done to perfection. Highly recommend you try if you love good food!

Yelp
My best friend and I just had brunch here at 1pm. The place was empty but overall a great brunch, atmosphere and couldn't understand why it was dead! Lots of staff around! Tavern was closed tonight.

Yelp
Terrifically inventive and filling farm to table, New American, etc. Been here for both dinner and brunch and this is just a wonderfully solid place. The brunch is an utter bargain--two of us ate heartily for $35. Dinner is just as good. My vegetarian girlfriend had plenty to choose from and I had a wonderful roast chicken dish. The service has always been exceptionally friendly and unfussy. Will go back again and again. This is an easy choice, a place to take friends and family.

Yelp
Trotwood Restaurant at Glen Falls House is our favorite place to go for brunch, a quick drink and bite, or a special occasion dinner, with delicious farm to table dishes and awesome special nights like wing night and Mac n cheese night. They are so welcoming and friendly, and the renovations are absolutely gorgeous- with waterfalls to boot!! Yay Glen Falls House!!

Yelp
Trotwood is always on our list of restaurants to go to when we're in the area. The burger is delicious! Service is excellent and drinks are really good.
