Beer, bar food, live music, Ferris wheel, food trucks

"At this funky, outdoor beer garden in East Downtown, happy hour is as easy as 3-4-5: grab $3 shots, $4 beers, and $5 cocktails Monday to Thursday from open until 7 p.m. Sunday happy hours are rare, but Truck Yard invites EaDo dwellers to wet their whistle at a reverse happy hour from 6 p.m. to midnight. Enhance the happy hour experience with a ride on Truck Yard’s colorful Ferris wheel for $7 a ride or $10 for an all-day wristband — an easy way to keep the kids entertained while kicking back with a cold one." - Brianna Griff

"I found that Truck Yard’s backyard-style garden will host a free Halloween event with fortune tellers, live music, candy for kids, costume contests for dogs and humans, and a photo booth to capture the memories (RSVP appreciated)." - Brittany Britto Garley

"In Houston’s EaDo neighborhood, an open-air beer bar and live music venue drew swift backlash after posting a photo of a marquee that read “Study shows 90% of bike accidents can be avoided by buying a car like normal people” to its Instagram and Facebook accounts; the post, shared widely by local biking groups and bike shops, prompted commenters to demand an apology and call for a boycott, led the bar to limit who could comment on its posts, and spurred the venue to replace the marquee with a message cheering on the Houston Astros. After Eater contacted the bar, Truck Yard posted a public apology that said, “We are f***ing idiots,” adding that they were “stupid in putting this up on our bar marquee without thinking twice about how it could offend” and that they had taken the sign down; that apology post drew more than 250 comments, some supportive and some critical. Critics noted the insensitivity was heightened by a recent, highly publicized Waller County case in which cyclists were assaulted, and Bike Houston’s executive director Joe Cutrufo pointed out that people who ride bikes are likelier to support local businesses and visit more often—an argument suggesting the bar should have considered the local cycling community before putting up the sign." - Brittanie Shey

"This sprawling bar, complete with a live music stage and a working ferris wheel, provides an amusing destination for day-drinking in the EaDo neighborhood. The 15,000 square foot space is spread out over various levels, and a number of rotating food trucks parked on-site make for perfect snacking in between tequila shots." - Megha McSwain

"I note that Truck Yard also operates a Houston location that opened in 2018; given the Dallas location's sign and its direct jab at Astros fans, this outpost might face calls for a boycott." - Amy McCarthy
