Waitress was a bit inexperienced and confused, but super friendly and nice. I really enjoyed my food, and it was a LOT of food for a good price. The huckleberry salmon was delicious. Worth a try! The cheesecake is fantastic.

Best pie in the mountains. Food is generally outstanding here. I especially like the Ruben with house made corn beef and the perfect amount of sauerkraut. The chili was awesome. However, we did not care for the beef and noodle soup.

The food seems homemade with generous portions. The oatmeal was good consistency I liked it, but more butter in it would be better. It was served with raisins and brown sugar. The Denver omelet was huge and delicious but the potatoes did need some butter or oil. The fruit cup was good. The banana role was good too. The service was great! This was recommended to us and we enjoyed it a lot. Outside seating is available with dogs.

Trudy's is the epitome of a mountain town restaurant and so much more! The place was packed for Memorial Day weekend but they were able to seat our group of six in a flash! The small town ambience inside was comfortable as if you were at your best friends mountain cabin. The service was excellent, even in the bustle of the weekend. The food... excellent and tasty! I will definitely be back to try the pies and desserts! Thanks again!

Great family atmosphere!! Very friendly staff eager to help out their partons! Open 11-4 Great choices from the menu! Stopped in for pie and some Fry's and was not let down by their fresh huckleberry cheesecake and mixed berry pie and the kiddo had the brownie Sunday. Only negatives was the water tastes odd and the soda machine seems like it needs cleaned sprite tasted like it had coke or Pepsi mixed in it. The brownie also tasted like it was made from scratch which is excellent but tasted like pure baking chocolate and wasn't sweet like a normal brownie. (But don't let that stop you from a good meal!!!) Super impressive Fry's and a nice size for a side! Great experience thank you for being an awesome stop for our day trip!!

We went for breakfast & dinner. Breakfast was awesome and really affordable. Dinner was great also. They have huge portions & super nice staff. Would definitely go back.

Overall decent. Worth stopping if on your route, but not worth going out of the way for. I got prime rib on Saturday-perhaps it's better on Friday (fresher?) but to me it was somewhat tasteless, if not decently cooked. In addition, the horseradish was not good-lacked spice, was quite bland, and only made the prime rib slightly more edible. The mashed potatoes was fine and not particularly notable. The chili was so unremarkable that I almost forgot to mention it. In addition, the wine options were "white or red" which I find funny, but not particularly an issue-the white wine was actually quite good. On the plus side, the cheesecake was great! The huckleberry cheesecake was definitely better than average. Also, the portions were unarguably large, so you will not go hungry. Not much around in the vicinity, so definitely a captive market. Service was slow enough that it was brought up in conversation at the table. Atmosphere was okay, I'd imagine you would like it more than us if you appreciate the side of the road diner, but it did feel a little grimy. Overall recommend if: You are taking this road anyways, and are in need of dinner. 3/5 dinner If not in need of dinner, worth stopping for the cheesecake. 3.5/5 desert

Very cute place, nice esthetic and cute decor. Staff was super friendly and provided recommendations that were great. The Huckleberry Blue cheese burger was surprisingly good. Good combo of sweet and savory. The banana cream pie I thought was a little too much. It is HUGE and when you're expecting a "slice" and what feels like the whole pie comes out its a bit much. Could have easily been shared between 2 or 3. Our waitress Katy was great. Would definitely stop by again if in the area.

This place is amazing. The staff is super friendly. In fact, Katy was such an amazing server. She gave suggestions and recommendations for dessert even. When you are passing through on your way to Stanley, ID, this is definitely a place to stop. It is small but not loud. There is seating on the patio but today it is 95 so no way Jose. Hubby had the huckleberry blue burger with onion rings and I had the BLT with fries. Homemade fresh fries! It seams fresh made. If I come back to Stanley, I will stop in, eat some great grub and say hello to Katy!!!!!

What a great spot in what seemed like the middle of nowhere. Stopped at the store next door and lady at the counter recommended Trudy's. So glad we did.

We were seated right away when we walked in. Quickly we were brought a couple of iced waters. She gave us a few minutes then took our order. My friend got the Huckleberry burger with onion rings. I ordered the salmon BLTA with fries. Both were good although slightly over cooked. The burger was good with the flavors of the jam and bleu cheese mixing. Hand-cut fries, not that frozen business. Our server was friendly and attentive. They were really busy, But there is plenty of seating inside. The pies looked good but we were too full for dessert.

Several of us flew to breakfast today. The positive our waitress was fast and sweet! I wish I could tell you the food was good I'd have to say it's hard to screw up breakfast but it happened. Probably the worst omelette I've had in years! No fluff at all it was hard eggs over a few ingredients! Another breakfast at the table was stale oatmeal

We stopped in Trudy's because my husband really wanted to try the Idaho specialty known as "steak fingers." My husband was so happy with his choice. I tried one and haven't say the streak was delicious. I had a wonderful patty melt and I had sone wonderful potato salad. Highly recommend this place.

Hamburger was pretty good and onion rings nice. That's all we had. It got super crowded before 1. Country kitchen ambiance.

Staff was nice and welcoming. The Huckleberry Blue Burger was enjoyable. Overall - a good choice when visiting Idaho City.

The food was so delicious omg!!!! And it was small inside and really cozy! The only think was the service was just fine but not bad at all!

Great place to stop and have lunch when up at Idaho City. Had the Huckleberry Jam and blue cheese burger with homemade fries and my wife had a chef salad. We both enjoyed the food, the service was also great. The only thing I didn't care for was the Peach pie, too much applesauce in it, so not quite what I prefer. I would try a different flavor next time.

Fun place. Has indoor and outdoor seating. Service was fast and the food was good. I highly recommend the huckleberry cheesecake. So delicious!

Wonderful restaurant with lots of charm. Clean, nice atmosphere and homemade pie. We had a wonderful breakfast with homemade hashbrowns. Payton was our waiter and was very polite and attentive. We would definitely come back.

Thank goodness the waitress was delightful. There was seven of us to come to breakfast we waited over 45 minutes for our food. And two to three tables came in after us and got their food before. When our food finally arrived it was at best lukewarm, and the steak was way overcooked. Doubt we will come back again

We stopped by here for lunch after a morning at the hot springs and it was the perfect spot to hit before the drive back home. It was beautiful covered in snow on the outside! The server was friendly and attentive made it easy on us... simple lunch we got a BLT and French dip... the onion rings were very good! Fries needed a bit of seasoning... the BLT was your standard sandwich it was good thick cut bacon which was delicious! And then we ended our meal with pie, we also got a blueberry pie crumble it was so good! Easy quick place to grab a good bite!

Went last Saturday and waited over an hour for a sandwich and a hamburger. Many other parties came in, got seated, ordered, ate, and left all in the time between the time we ordered and received our food. Waiter simply blamed the kitchen. Also had plenty of flies present throughout

We went here on the recommendation of a hotel in the area, only to find out we were in the middle of a training session for the new dinner cooks, our food came out with cold mash potatoes and my hamburger steak I ordered Medium came out well done and dry, sent it back and came back the same way!!!! My wife had the chicken strips, they were pretty good but also had cold mash potatoes. No apologies just the bill. Hope they do a better job on Breakfast a d lunch.

Been here before and this was disappointing. I'm not going to go way into this but let's just say it was bad. We were forgotten about twice. Burgers were completely unseasoned and well done ( after asking for med rare), fries were raw and unseasoned and after waiting for an hour for our food we ate what we had. An apology at the end (kinda) was not hitting either. Sad experience at a place that could have done much better.

Satisfying stop with something on the menu for everyone in our group. We even took some pie to go and are glad we did! Service was fast and friendly and the door was Idaho chic.

Trudy is back! For one. more. week. Ugh.... Her food is great! But the last owners ruined it. Trudy fixed it and brought her tasty goodness food back. Now she's leaving again. If the new owners don't keep her fabulous food going, I'll not come back. New owners: you get one chance! Fair warning!

took my family there as I have always enjoyed the food. however this visit was awful. Food was not appealing visually and taste was lacking on every plate. The only saving grace was the delightful waitress. I will not go back.

The Food Tasted So Good! The wait for food Was not bad 10-20 Minutes! But Also the ambiance of the restaraunt was good because of all the antiques.

Do not drive past Trudy's without eating here! It was recommended to me by a Boise native to at least have the pie! My food mate and I were very pleasantly surprised at how many Gluten Free options on their menu. We had the Hamburger with mushrooms and Swiss cheese on a gluten free bun with fries. Delicious! The bun was soft and sweet, the pattie hand formed and cooked right, the fries are fried in gluten free oil. We got the homemade ranch and fry spread to go with them. Awesome! And we saved enough room for a piece of cocoanut cream pie that was 5 inches tall! Gluten free on the inside (but not the crust) with toasted coconut on top. AND we could not resist the totally gluten free huckleberry cheesecake!!! Yum!!! If the gluten free food was this good I can only imagine how good the regular items must be. It looks like a Dive but the food is Devine. Not to be missed.

This place is FANATIC! I got the Ruben sandwich and with coleslaw and it was so delicious. It's always a gamble ordering coleslaw but my whole meal was incredibly delicious. I would highly recommend!

I've had okay food here before but the last time was really good. I saw Trudy in the restaurant so I think she was cooking that day. After she sold her restaurant it wasn't as good so I'm hoping she is back. The Philly dip with onion rings were really good, I would order it again.

This place is delicious, grandmas home cooking vibe with amazing pies!! Everything we have tried so far was great. Steak could use some more flavoring but I'm super picky with steak.

Our party of four stopped in for a lunch during a weekday. There were plenty of tables filled even though this was a Thursday. The first thing we noticed was the loud and bossy manager calling out orders to the kitchen from the dining area, although the venue did not look like a typical diner. The food was all excellent, with the exception of the potato mushroom soup which was a little too salty. The finger steaks, a featured item were made with prime rib and were tender and delicious. The fish and chips were very tasty as well and the turkey avocado sandwich and grilled cheese likewise. The fries were cooked very extra crispy as requested. The peach rhubarb pie was delicious. I was disappointed that the manager did not provide a duplicate copy of the CC receipt for my files, a pet peeve of mine. She stapled the order ticket to the restaurant's copy which is another poor practice and I inadvertently walked out with both after I had signed their copy and included a tip. When I realized my mistake and handed over my signed copy I spoke with the manager about this practice. But she curtly dismissed my concern as unimportant. I still recommend this place for the food. Service was friendly and satisfactory. Very pleasant waitress; offset the crude manager but the manager is running the internal operation well, there is no question about that.

We enjoyed dining at this restaurant while visiting Idaho City. The decorations inside are lovely. It may appear to be old outside but it is nice and clean inside (including the restrooms). The server was very tentative and friendly, and the food was just so good. Good size, not greasy, and very delicious! The fish filet in the sandwich was crispy outside but juicy inside. The beef and the dip was just perfect to its flavor. Sure will go back and grab one of their well-known pies.

So today we headed up to one of the oldest towns in Idaho today called Idaho City...first what a beautiful drive along the way. There aren't a bunch of options in the small town so based on reviews this was the for sure pick. Inside typical old school roadside diner vibe with plenty of seating inside and outside under cover. We chose to sit inside based on it being pretty windy today. Once seated they are quick to drop off some water and let us know the soup special of the day which was pork stew. After a quick look of the menu we ordered a few adult beverages and what I really liked was the frozen ice cold mugs that come with the beverages. We decided to start off with some onion rings to start and while I know they were frozen they were cooked perfectly and the fry sauce that came on the side was bomb and the homemade ranch equally as bomb! For lunch I had the bacon and bleu cheese burger with potato salad and my wife had the regular cheese burger with the daily soup special. Let me break this down and the reason this is a 3 star and not a 4+ star. The service 5 star our waitress Dee was amazing! She was so attentive and so friendly and made this a repeat. The burgers while I had high didn't hit for me at all. The buns were fresh, soft and tasty. My burger was so overdone that all flavor was completely gone. While the burger had what it said they are not dressed with anything and unfortunately had to drown it in ketchup to choke it down. The bacon soggy and the huge chunks of bleu cheese looked more of any afterthought more than a burger creation. My wife's burger was the same way overcooked and all flavor was gone. But the daily soup she loved and the side of potato salad were the high points. What would bring me back is the service and the opportunity to try some of their homemade pies or cinnamon rolls.

Delicious food, great ambiance. Clean premises, charming decor. Servers were polite and accommodating. Our kids aged 6 and 2 loved the crayons and placemats! They both had the cheeseburger and fries kids meal and my very picky 6yo ate the burger and fries with no complaints! I got to try some of their burgers and they were so yummy! I ordered the chili and cornbread and a side salad. The chili was the best chili I've ever had at a restaurant. I usually never eat the whole thing when I order it at restaurants but this time I did. The salad was delicious and the in-house ranch very tasty. My husband got the Reuben sandwich. It was gigantic and stuffed with meat. He really enjoyed it. The dessert was also very good. We all shared one slice of the chocolate Oreo pie, the coconut cream pie, and the huckleberry cheesecake. The chocolate pie was not too sweet and was very creamy. The coconut pie was very light. My favorite was the huckleberry cheesecake. The tangy sour cream huckleberry topping had fresh whole huckleberries in it and the cheesecake was rich and cheesy.

First time in Idaho City, went to Trudy's for a quick dinner. The food was fantastic, came out quickly and was reasonably priced, but the friendly service was top notch! Kendall was a sweetheart and her bubbly personality and smile made you feel like you weren't just a tourist. Highly recommen!

A nice stop for lunch on the way back to Boise from the Kirkham Hot Springs. The inside was very cute and the staff very welcoming, however not everyone was wearing a mask. They weren't enforcing customers to wear masks either, so we felt pretty uncomfortable in there. We decided to take our food to go. The finger steaks were pretty good with the cocktail sauce, but there weren't very many of them. We also split a Mushroom Swiss burger and devoured it in seconds. The mushrooms on that burger were cooked to perfection! We last-minute decided to treat ourselves to some huckleberry cheesecake, and I'm so glad we did! It wasn't overly sweet but had the perfect amount of tart from the huckleberries. I would very much recommend you stop by this nice local restaurant, but maybe wait until the pandemic gets better. Just make sure you also order a slice of that huckleberry cheesecake before it all runs out!

Excellent place to stop when in or traveling thru the Idaho City area. Just off a main RD... convenient (gravel) parking, indoor & outdoor seating... Neal's for all times of day... & don't forget dessert! Yup gluten free buns r avail for their burger too

The pie is huge and it's so good, the coconut cream and cheesecakes are SO good. The prime rib special is huge my fiancé and I shared it and were too stuffed to move. So good. Love this place

Whoa Amazing food!!! We found this on yelp and debated since it was only 4 stars, but were so glad we tried it after all! The food was delicious, and the service great. It was a Friday mid afternoon and other restaurants were empty, but this one was pretty full, which we took as a selling point. And even though they were busy, they were extremely helpful, and nice, and the food came out without too long of a wait at all. We ordered the taco salad, fish and chips, and shared a piece of carrot cake. Everything was off the charts delicious, and the portions were generous. I'm fact the cake was HUGE!!! And better than ever!!! We will definitely drive all the way back to Idaho city again just to eat here!!

Stopped in for lunch on a Friday in late September and the restaurant was busy but we were seated right away. I had fried fish with onion rings. The soup of the day was clam chowder. Kids enjoyed their burgers and chicken, and spouse enjoyed the burger with huckleberry jam.

We went to Trudy's Kitchen today for the first time. I was excited to see they have a gluten free menu that's actually full of amazing choices. I ordered the gf finger steaks and they did not disappoint. The batter was crispy with no chalky residue. The steak was thick and tender. I also ordered a piece of gf huckleberry cheesecake to go. It was equally delicious. It's not often that I leave a restaurant not feeling left out because of a subpar menu. I was truly satisfied and can't wait to return. The restaurant was super busy on this Sunday afternoon but the girls working were friendly, polite, efficient and full of personality. We sat outside on the covered deck because the inside was full. Our order was taken in a timely manner and we were checked on by a couple different girls several times. They made us feel like family. Trudy's Kitchen is a little gem and definitely a must try!

if there was a way to leave zero stars, I would. crappy service, cold, undercooked food. the only thing they got correct was how we were splitting the check. My advice? Skip this place, eat before you get here, because you WILL leave hungry.

Best and biggest breakfast in Idaho!! Great food and service. A quick drive from Boise

My family and I just moved to Idaho from CA in February. We have friends in Idaho and they recommended Trudy's. My family and I drove there today to try it out. When we first walked into the restaurant we were greeted by the friendliest group of ladies! It was so nice to see smiling faces! I have 4 year old triplets. They each received a kids menu with crayons. My triplets ordered the same thing. They all got the mini corn dogs with fries. The kids loved their meals. I ordered the cheeseburger with onion rings, my husband ordered the double cheeseburger with bacon and my mom ordered the turkey sandwich with avocado. We all enjoyed our food. Trudy's is well known for their pies so we took some to go, to enjoy at home. The pies were delicious. We ordered chocolate cream, banana cream and peach. Our server was super sweet! I wish I would have gotten her name. We will definitely go back!! I think it is important to support local restaurants and businesses; especially at this unprecedented time that we are going through.

Great food i would make the drive from Caldwell id just for the burger. If your in ID city this is a must stop

The only reason this is a 2 star review and not 1 is because the burgers weren't too bad. We received menus and waters when we sat down in the more than half-empty restaurant. After that, we had to go to the counter ourselves to get anything done. Nobody came to our table to take our order. Nobody came to see if we needed anything after food was delivered. My husband received the wrong drink. Half of my fries were old and the other half were almost raw. I asked for Mayo or fry sauce, and both were out. We had to go to the counter to pay. And the kicker is that we kept seeing the staff talking and joking with each other right behind the counter, not paying attention to the dining floor. The first time I came here a few years ago it was a somewhat pleasant experience, but I doubt we'll ever go back after today. I can't believe we paid close to $40 for this awful experience before undeserved tip. Oh yeah, and there's an extra charge for using your credit card.

Don't know why I keep giving this place chances!!! Today I walked in, not too busy. About 8 empty tables. Sat down and waited, and waited and waited. Meanwhile 5 workers sat in the corners just goofing around. One girl took her shoe off to empty some rocks. She didn't even wash her hands afterwards. Finally a waitress comes to my table, pissy attitude. She take a my order, asks if I want fry sauce or ranch. I refused as I heard they now charge for this. She makes a comment that times are tough. HUH?? Meanwhile, these kids are all still screwing around, strangely now there are six kids behind the counter! I see the one with the shoe and dirty hands now serving a table. Gross! Not sure who is managing this place as there are several pissed off people around me. This is the last time! Done with this place. BTW, food was extra greasy and kind of nasty! Oh, and they now charge an extra 4% for using a credit card!!

We traveled to Idaho City to eat at this place because the reviews were so good. The people there were very nice. I ordered finger steaks and onion rings, but received finger steaks and fries. The finger steaks were tough and overcooked and the fries were all uncooked. My daughter's fries were overcooked. My food had no flavor either.

My wife took me here today for my birthday. I had, of course, the CFS (Chicken Fried Steak) The steak was very greasy and the meat not tender. The gravy had no flavor at all either. I left most of it on the plate. The CFS came with scrambled eggs and home made hash browns. The eggs were not scrambled. They are omelets that you have to cut up. (I wish I could fid a breakfast place that knew how to actually make scrambled eggs) Scrambled eggs should be a mixture of eggs and either milk, half and half, or heavy cream. Then the mixture should be whipped with a whisk which add air to the mixture. They result should be light and fluffy scrambled eggs. I have yet to find 1 restaurant anywhere in the Boise area that knows how to make these. The toast was....well, it was toast. not much to say about toast except for the jam. They only served me what tasted like an orange marmalade. It was way too sweet. I had some of my wife's bacon. Very greasy and way too salty. The best place for Breakfast in the Boise area remains Jo Mama's. Phillip
