"Trudy’s Tex-Mex closed its South Austin restaurant this month. The last day of service of Trudy’s South Star was on Monday, May 6. New CEO Scott Taylor explained that the location had to close due to economic and shopping area changes. The company, nearly 47 years old, has faced a tumultuous period, filing for bankruptcy in 2019 and closing multiple locations. The only remaining location is its North Star restaurant in the North Shoal Creek neighborhood." - Nadia Chaudhury

Dined in tonight with some work colleagues and had a good experience overall. Food was good but I did not care for the ceviche. It just wasnt to my personal liking. It was dry. Margaritas were good and our server was friendly. Definitely worth checking out. Their women's restroom was cute with the greenery on the wall.

They're usually pretty busy when we come so we always try to keep longer wait times into consideration. The waiters/staff were friendly but it did take quite a while to get our drinks (just water) and orders taken (probably due to low staff that day). The quesadilla was the best! I would stay away from the ceviche if you are expecting the Mexican style, it tastes a bit too sweet here. Another thing we weren't a big fan of was the stuffed chicken, I'll edit this post with the name of it once I find it (edit: it was the chorizo stuffed chicken).

First time here but will be back. Food and drinks were amazing. Service was speedy. The borracho beans were actually spicy. Not many places have anything that actually has a kick to it.

We had a very good experience at Trudy's. There was plenty of parking, no wait, and our waitress, Zoe, was great. It was her first day and I never would have guessed. I'm really picky about salsa and the salsa here was really good, flavor and spice-wise. The Longhorn Tacos were unique and delicious. Husband had the combo plate and also really enjoyed it. Mexican Martini was tasty as usual. The South Star location was spacious and had a nice atmosphere.

Google
Went to dinner with a large party which normally lowers the rating because restaurants can't handle it. But for our group it seemed like all hands on deck and drinks came out quickly, chips and queso came out quickly and drinks from the bar came out quickly. Service and food quality were excellent. Definitely a different take on some of my favorite Tex-Mex dishes but I welcome their version of it. Would recommend it.

Google
The only downsides were the uncomfortable all-metal-no-cushion chairs on the patio and a couple of minor issues with service from an otherwise very friendly and competent server. Everything else was a + or a ++: Service, as I mentioned, was overall excellent. The chips were crispy and still warm from being made. The salsas were delicious and the right amount of caliente. I chose corn tortillas with my meal and they were freshly made (and warm). I had the brisket migas — delicious and accompanied by refried black beans with a sprinkling of cotija cheese and a serving of Spanish rice…the whole grain kind and not the cheap stuff that looks like it’s been squeezed through a Play-Doh press. Check out Trudy’s—worth it.

Okay food, good price, fantastic outdoor seating. First off, this is the best free salsa that I've ever had at a restaurant. Both the salsa roja (medium spice) and verde (hot spice) were nicely flavored and a far cry from the watery salsa of other restaurants. I tried the "famous" stuffed avocados and found them underwhelming and nothing special. Tasted like chicken salad that had been fried. My partner got the American breakfast and shared the french toast which was thick and slightly dry but delicious with the maple syrup and cinnamon butter. I got the chiliquile and was shocked at the presentation of the dish. It's like a drunk person got up in the middle of the night, got on some chips from the bottom of the bag, microwaved it with cheese, took a steaming dump on it and then put two eggs on it. Granted, flavor wise I enjoyed the sauce (nice and spicy) but it was such a weird mix of textures that it completely put me off my appetite. Based on the description on the menu, I was expecting the "fried tortilla" to be like a tostada and not like oyster crackers. I'll probably go back for the full bar and free chips and salsa but overall found Trudy's to be meh and overhyped. The service and the outdoor area were great though!

We stop here every time we’re in, or driving through Austin, for the stuffed avocado. This time we ordered to go and ate in the car because we had our dog and it was too hot for us and her to sit on the patio. We arrived around 11:20a and were able to order quickly. The food was ready in about 10 minutes. We prefer the traditional style with with suiza sauce and the food was tasty as usual! It was a bit spicier than we remembered but also we weren’t getting refilled drinks in our car lol so that was probably the difference. We did miss having the chips and salsa we would’ve had if we sat down, but all in all, wonderful as always and we’re already looking forward to our next visit!

Yelp
Very tasty grilled chicken taco salad, pineapple jalapeno margarita, and loaded queso. Great waitress! Good vibes and great place to visit with friends

Bill S.

Yelp
The only reason I give them any stars is that their Mexican martinis rock! Their food is horrible. I can make better Mexican food at home and I'm a gringo. Shrimp enchilada has undercooked shrimp and so much cheese it will give you a heart attack. So go there for the drinks and the queso. ( not the salsa)

Willie A.

Yelp
I can no longer justify coming here after 15+ years. The Mexican martini isn't worth it anymore. The staff is mostly apathetic. The food is uninspiring and downright insulting. Ordered the fajita chicken and Queso enchiladas. It was two anemic Tortillas filled with cheese with pitiful, dry chicken thrown on top. These "enchiladas" were sitting on plastic cheese that tasted like they took it out of a TV dinner. Our server spent 85% of his time sitting with his friend in the booth next to us. I think our presence and the presence of other customers distracted him from his socializing. Never again. The salsa was good, as usual.

Yelp
I've been to Trudy's a few times and have never been disappointed. Staff are always friendly and helpful and the food is always good. I showed up for Happy Hour with some friends but they were running behind so I sat at the bar and got the $5 HH margarita with free chips and dip while I chatted with the bartender. I got the double stacked chicken quesadilla and it was absolutely delicious! To be honest, the flavors are a little short of Tex-Amex seasoning but the food is still tasty and I'll definitely go back.

Joseph K.

Yelp
Great happy hour Nice patio - no dogs allowed though as it's enclosed with restaurant.

Yelp
This was a great meeting place for our group meeting aside from the fact that we sat under a speaker blasting music. It wouldn't normally be too loud but it was for a long table of people talking. We sat in the back of the restaurant, joined together a couple tables and had good service with one server. The waitress was a bit timid and wasn't sure if anyone was ordering food. About half of us arrived after the first people and they'd already eaten. She also was a bit over zealous in wanting to clear away my plate as I was constantly hovering over it as we were all talking. So I had to let her know I wasn't done but I can understand her uncertainty with our staggered arrivals and it was a netting and not a group of friends hanging out. The ceviche was good and had a nice mix of seafood but not overly citrusy. So chances are it was cooked and chilled instead of cooking it with the citrus. The drinks were good and while I didn't have a margarita, I'm told they're tasty with just the right amount of tequila. I'll be back. The restaurant is surrounded by hotels and is not really off a road you'd see driving by even though it's right by I35. You need to know what you're looking for.

Ashleigh J.

Yelp
I feel so torn on this place, although I thought the food overall was pretty good, it does not match the cost. The food was pricey and the menu was very confusing. I thought I was ordering chicken fajitas but ended up with a fried piece of chicken, beans and corn on the cob.. not exactly what I was expecting when I thought I was getting fajitas. The shrimp enchiladas were also weird as the shrimp was just on top of a tortilla & not filled like you would expect. Flavor on the food was definitely there, and it was really tasty! Chips and salsa are served with two types of salsa, and the tater tot nachos were a great appetizer! Margaritas were mediocre, both the pineapple jalapeño and house marg fell flat and didn't taste much like anything. The pineapple Margarita is the same size as the house but cost is $14, which to me, is just not worth it. Finding the place was also confusing as my gps took me to the parking lot but I couldn't find any signage pointing to the building. It has tons of parking and is right next to Buffalo Wild Wings. Overall, I feel like there are better places out there!

Hector B.

Yelp
Service (5 stars): i was at the bar, and she was super sweet and solid. I felt cared for, and that's something today! Atmosphere (3): confused! Is it Mexican or steak house or ??? Food (3): Well, I ordered their "famous" stuffed avocado. It was like fried chicken with guacamole on it. Nothing special. I'm sorry but I was very excited to try it. It was marginal in flavor at best. Their rice was bland and their frijoles burracho was OK. Chips and salsa tasted store bought. I was pleased that there was tomatillo and regular salsas. Drink (4): Mexican martni, i.e., margarita was good. I don't think I'd return. Nothing world bring me back.

Yelp
My relationship with Trudy's spans many many years...from my college days at St. Edwards University to living and working stumbling distance from the former South location to staying within stumbling distance from its current location and while there have been many ups and downs, changes, items have come and gone, I still visit Trudy's at least once per trip back to Austin because just like an old friend you make me feel all warm and fuzzy and happy and buzzed...and unlike old friends you also leave me full. Let's talk food and the menu first and foremost: I have been going to Trudy's as both an omnivore and vegetarian and the Trudy's menu has always had great options to fit both needs. Their Famous Stuffed Avocado has always been a go-to for me, covered in suiza sauce (spicy and creamy white sauce) with rice and refried black beans. I've also had their brunch menu items, they are acceptable and their salads are good as well. You can't go wrong with their chips and salsa (I always ask for extra green salsa). Drinks! Let's talk drinking at Trudy's and how enjoyable it is. A daily HH as well as rotating drink specials always give some variety and options for you but I will almost always go with, what is for me THE Trudy's drink, Mexican Martini's! Served by the shaker the Mexican Martini has been my go-to for years. In my latter years I've become wiser and decided to ditch the glass...that is right my friends, stick a straw in the shaker and go for it! No risk of spillage and it keeps the table less cluttered and full. Now do I love the menu overhaul the new owners have done? Not particularly, nor am I a fan of the new logo and branding and such. But overall it has had a minimal impact on my personal experience when it comes to Trudy's and for that I am thankful. So there it is, an almost 20 year relationship summed up in some five paragraphs. Did I leave stuff out? I would have to say I did but looking back at Trudy's leaves me looking forward to my next visit. Get that Mexican Martini shaker ready for me, you'll be seeing me again sooner rather than later. Cheers.

Yelp
3 stars only because the place was just fine. I ordered the avocado chicken Caesar which was highly recommended by staff but fell a little short. Had barely any dressing on it and the pico made it slightly watery. Also only like three slides of avocado. Their chips and salsa were pretty good but overall nothing to write home about.

Annalise N.

Yelp
The salads are overpriced and disgusting. It says it's a "salad mix" on the menu but the avocado chicken salad is only iceberg lettuce and chewy chicken that can't be cut with a fork. Brown avocado. Not a $14 salad. I didn't touch my salad & the waiter didn't even say a word. Tropically they will notice that your food hasn't been touched barely. Not here. I love their Mexican Martinis but their food continuously is going downhill.

Karson S.

Yelp
Was looking for a typical TexMex place for an east dinner & was pleasantly surprised by Trudy's. We walked in to a sparsely populated place (Monday night on a holiday) and we're seated immediately. Not sure what other nights look like, but Trudy's can hold a pretty big crowd comfortably. They have a patio, a bar, and several seating areas which was nice. Our waitress was Chancey (apologies if that's not the right spelling) and she was amazing! So nice, kept our drinks full, checked on us when we needed but not too much. Really great! We started with chips & 2 salsas (red and green). Both were very good and we actually liked the green best! Just a little spice and more flavor than your average green salsa. We ordered the top tier enchiladas (Chicken Fajita & Queso, and the Chipotle Shrimp) which were PIPING hot when they arrived and very tasty. I think we liked the shrimp just a little better as it was a little creamier. Want to come back to try the desserts and margs! Really no negatives from our experience!

Jeremy P.

Yelp
Absolutely horrid. If I could give negative stars, I would. Ordered 2 drinks and 2 plates of food. We ate literally one or two bites off each plate, told the server how bad the food was, and was still charged 50$ The investors that saved the chain from bankruptcy, maybe they shouldn't have.

Josh J.

Yelp
I can't believe how terrible the service and food has become here. This used to be one of my favorite spots to visit when coming back home to Austin. Picked up a togo order all of the food for 4 people was crammed i one small playoff bag all upside down bag resting, impossible to check quality. Get to my hotel 2 orders are wrong and we record the smallest bag of chips for queso and the salsa they make you pay $5 for now.

Kaeleigh S.

Yelp
Meh. Drinks were disappointing; got the frozen mango marg and didn't even want to finish it. The food was pretty bland and didn't seem great quality. Nothing impressive but nothing terrible either. Service was alright. All in all, not necessarily bad but wouldn't say it was good or go out of my way to come back. Just another subpar tex mex joint.

Jamie P.

Yelp
Definitely recommend the frozen margs!! The are SO good and only $5 for a large margarita on happy hour. The stuffed avocados on the happy hour menu were also pretty good, but the brisket quesadilla fell short. There was very little brisket for the price. We sat out on the patio where they had a few TVs showing the football games and heaters on since it was quite cool outside. The servers were all nice and on Fridays they have a mariachi band that floats around playing for tables.

Harvey X.

Yelp
I used to visit the UT campus area Trudy's often, until it closed, but my first experience with this southside branch wasn't like what I remember. Or maybe it was just an off night. We got some food and beers for takeout and the fish tacos were horrible -- just breaded, flat, leather shoe soles, no fish to be detected. The shrimp tacos were better, but still not standouts. The brisket quesadillas were the best when fresh, and generous proportions, but leftovers saved for the next day turned out to be unappetizing. They didn't hold up well at all. Our stomachs and bowels were a bit unhappy for the next 24 to 48 hours and I don't expect to be a return customer for this location. Maybe I should have stuck with my old standby enchiladas, but quien sabe?

Bryan C.

Yelp
Pretty disappointing meal considering how much I love their brunch buffet. They could've been short-staffed since we went on Jan. 1. Service was average. Food was served lukewarm and tasted like it had been sitting for some time. Will probably make the drive to their original location since it seems to get better reviews.

Rick S.

Yelp
This location is the south Austin sister of Trudy's North Star. The menu is pretty typical fair-to-middlin selection of Tex-Mex entrees. The highlights here are the outdoor seating (always pleasantly shaded and cool during the spring and summer) and the drinks, which feature a fairly heavy pour and are well-made. Food-wise, it's nothing outstanding and for me is just okay. You can get a good meal here but don't expect anything exceptional.

Dominique E.

Yelp
I've had many Tex mex meals in my lifetime (being a Texan) and this falls as just another one. I gave them 4 stars because the food was decent, the portion sizes were incredible for what you pay for and there is plenty of inside and outdoor space to choose from. On Sundays they have mimosa and breakfast and it was pretty good. I got the migas and my mom got the breakfast plate with French toast. It was plentiful. It's not your Instagram Austin restaurant but I think it's a great space to bring your family visiting out of town.

Hannah K.

Yelp
There's a lot I can't tell you about Trudy's. I don't actually know how the food is, or how many vegan options there are. I can't even tell you what the interior looks like or if the bathroom situation is reasonable. Despite my limited experience, I did spend an evening on the patio and had a wonderful time. That alone deserves 5 stars. Why? It's all about the human interaction and hospitality. Servers here are super friendly, endlessly accommodating, and generally chill people. The drinks are strong and flavorful, and I could very happily mow down a pile of those super thin and crispy chips with fresh salsa in lieu of a proper meal. For a place to meet friends or make new ones, this is the ideal environment. Big plus: Tons of easy parking right out front in the lot. If you're in the area, it's a no-brainer.

Kate H.

Yelp
I sat at the bar and the bartender was very helpful even though the whole bar was filled. I ordered the CHICKEN SUIZA enchiladas and they were just ok. I loved them in the platter but maybe the chef was having an off day. Not a fan of their Mexican rice at all.

Smurdle L.

Yelp
The last time I went there, I got food poisoning. My sister also found a hair in her food and also had food poisoning after visiting this place on a separate occasion. That's just the food. This place is also a really horrible place to work. The managers there all hate their own existence so they make all of their employee's lives hell. They have this odd little tier system that is completely biased and based off of whether or not the miserable managers like you that week or not. Top tier people get the best sections and shifts. Everyone else gets dirt from the gutter. Like, seriously? Who do these people think they are? You manage a restaurant, be real. Don't take your menial existence so seriously and make your employee's lives miserable just because you loathe your own existence. That goes for all management at this place.

Jessica N.

Yelp
Yo this place is absolutely disgusting i'm sorry, we got the fajitas and bacon wrapped shrimp and I couldn't believe my eyes on how my shrimp looked and tasted, I had to take it back for sure. My boyfriend and I went to Austin for our anniversary and couldn't find a nice restaurant but we did ask locals about this one and they said it was yummy. I only gave them a three because the service was good but other than that nope. Food was not sizzling like a fajita should when it came out and like i said my bacon wrapped shrimp wasn't giving what it was supposed to. Idk about this place but I won't be back I didn't take any pics because I was shook

Andrea E.

Yelp
Trudy's South Star is how I always remember it from the times I have gone here with friends over the years. The only difference is that there were a few small errors in my order but nothing the waiter wouldn't fix. Let's keep supporting Trudy's for all of us in Austin who would be sad to see it go!

Cathy H.

Yelp
I am so tired of spending my hard earned money at subpar restaurants. The only reason I gave a 3 star was the staff were great and friendly otherwise it would be one star. The food was not great. Ordered-... tortilla soup- very watery Bbq plate- brisket very tender but tasted like it was boiled, sausage was good, chicken was dry. Cholula chicken with corn and mash potatoes-absolutely no taste in anything on that plate. No I will not return!

Steffie S.

Yelp
I love Trudy's. I've been coming to Trudy's since I moved here in '92-all of them- central, north, and now for the first time- the south location. I do have my fondest memories of the central location on 30th. It felt like old Austin; a restaurant hobbled together on a hillside. That location is closed for renovations- I'm sure it will be "pretty" when it's done, just like the rest of Austin is becoming- "pretty". Enough sadness...the south Trudy's was very good and near a movie I was going to see. I met a friend there for a drink and appetizer before the show. I had the mini stuffed avocados with chicken and a single Mexican martini. There were four of them, they were delicious, and I forgot to photograph them before I dug in. My friend polished off chicken fajitas so they were delicious as well. The service was...well, same story, different day- they are understaffed. The guy at the bar was doing his best. The place is clean and spacious. Prices are good. It feels generic atmosphere-wise. I don't know...I miss the little, less polished places. I will adapt. Overall, I recommend Trudy's. I'll keep coming back. Hope you'll give it a try and let me know what you think.

Ankitha D.

Yelp
Trudys has always been a staple for me. We came here on a Sunday afternoon and it wasn't packed. Sat outside on a nice day. We were there for a couple of hours and our waiter was super nice and patient with us. I ordered the chicken stuffed avocado and it was good as usual but not as spicy as I would have liked it to be. Definitely more cheesy than I expected though lol. Good nonetheless!

Hong L.

Yelp
Trudy's South Star just recently had their re-grand opening after undergoing renovations. The restaurant now looks great - clean, modern, and has that Trudy's flair. They also re-branded themselves and re-launched a great menu with some new and old dishes. I came here for an event and everything I tried was delicious. I recommend getting the tacos - Cheesesteak & Mahi-Mahi were my top 2 favorites! And you can't be be at Trudy's without trying their margaritas which was a nice pairing with the food. Check out the spacious patio with an outdoor bar; plenty of parking and look out for that newly designed Trudy's design.

Gretchen P.

Yelp
I was a fan of the original Trudy's for many years until they stopped serving seat service for breakfast and then they burned down. I remember how very good their migas were in the old day. This morning a friend and I tried Trudy's South Star for the legendary migas. I was sorely disappointed. (1) The migas were watery and bland. (2) The charro beans did not in the least taste like charro beans. Pros: (1) very attentive yet a too solicitous server (maybe she was new) (2) Great chips and hot sauce Cons: (1) food took 45 minutes to arrive; we assume they were kitchen short, so that's ok, but to wait 45 minutes on poor food is unforgivable. (2) TexMex margarita was too sweet and too shy of tequila. So maybe we were there on an off day, but there't too many good Mexican restaurants in town to chance going back. Sorry Trudy's, but I am breaking up with you.

Allie R.

Yelp
I was extremely pleased with my experience at Trudy's! The prices were good for the size you receive. They provide chips and salsa while you order but the salsa is spicy. I loved it, but some guests might not have the spice tolerance. The loaded queso is a great alternative as it is not spicy but extremely flavorful. I ordered the seafood combo and they had lots of shrimp in the entree which is excellent/delicious! The inside dinning area is nothing special, but the outdoor patio is nice.

bernard j.

Yelp
Trudy's Special was tasty The Ranch Water is super strong.. I still drank two of them

Sarretta M.

Yelp
I've been a fan of Trudy's for many years, but the pandemic really put this Trudy's location on my radar because of its wonderful patio. Even in Midsummer, it is breezy, covered, shady and reasonably cool. In the rainy Texas fall and cooler months, it is perfectly positioned to keep customers comfortable with ceiling-mounted gas heaters. We went there today, a wet chilly Saturday, and were dry and comfortable in this lovely (but socially-distanced) patio dining area. The round palapa bar area near-by is even more shielded from the rain and breeze, but occasionally smokers there can make me want to be further away. We decided to share the (huge) portobello-spinach quesadilla and a strawberry margarita between my husband and me. We each also ordered a glass of iced tea (Texans need iced tea!) and I ordered an avocado salsa - an incredible accompaniment I've become addicted to. Our server, Kevin, took our complete order on his first visit to the table, then returned promptly with our drinks, followed quickly by two baskets of tortilla chips along with red and green salsa, as well as my avocado salsa (I get that all to myself since the hubby hates avocados). Our quesadilla emerged soon thereafter - from experience, we knew it was more than enough for us to share as a lunch (see picture!). I had requested extra spinach in it - trying to make it healthier! It was delicious and very filling, especially with the salad, guacamole, and sour cream which accompanied it. The strawberry margarita (the daily special) was tart and sweet and a perfect addition to the meal. Kevin was friendly and attentive, bringing tea refills and checking in on us periodically. Another wonderful meal on Trudy's wonderful covered patio!!

Julie T.

Yelp
Trudys was always my favorite place to go. I loved the food the atmosphere the music they played and the drinks, until they changed owners. They took away so many great dishes that so many people loved the breakfast used to be my favorite until it changed. I loved the red and green salsa until they changed it and the bloody marys were the best, but not anymore. Margaritas changed and not for the better! I wish the old trudys was still around witbout all these new California updates.

Sandra M.

Yelp
When I used to live in Austin this was one of my favorite restaurants. Now, whenever I visit Austin I usually make a stop at Trudys to get some of my favorite snacks. I don't know what's going on here but the quality of the food has gone downhill. If you're looking for a tex mex version of chilis or tgifridays well then you'll love the new menu and branding of the establishment. They basically have two options on the menu - the classics and the new "twist". The new twist items look like dishes you can get any tex mex restaurant in the country, nothing unique or particularly interesting. I decided to stick with the classics but they weren't quite the classics I remember. Let's start off with the Mexican Martini. No strainer and no martini glass? No biggie, I can get into the new presentation of it being served in an open metal shaker filled to the brim with ice and a straw. I'm sure it's catering to the cool kids of today so why not. I care more about the taste than the presentation anyway. Taste wise it was missing something, the mix is clearly different and we couldn't figure out what exactly was altered but something was off. It wasn't tasty but it was drinkable. A miss for me. Probably should name it something completely different let's not pretend this is THE Mexican Martini. This is a new take on it that, for me, falls short on balance and flavor. Surely, they wouldn't have messed with perfection AKA the stuffed chicken avocado with suiza sauce? When it came out I immediately noticed that the suiza sauce didn't look right and once I took a bite I nearly cried from sadness. It's not THE suiza sauce and I'm not even sure it's a suiza sauce at all. Shame on you for calling it the same sauce when it clearly isn't. The stuffed avocado was bland no seasoning in the batter for the avocado and the chicken inside was bland as well (what's with everything being unseasoned and bland?). I didn't bother finishing my dish. We also got queso that was runny and flavorless and my beloved flaquities now had cheese inside them and were cut diagonally just like the chilis southwest fried appetizer. The recipe is compelling completely different. But here's the thing, I understand places have to evolve and recipes even have to change but if you are going to alter anything it should be for the BETTER. Let's not pretend this is the same Trudys because it clearly isn't and it's fine to completely change up the menu and do your own thing but it still needs to taste good and that somehow has gone completely out the window. I'm not sad because they changed the menu I'm sad because the menu they have is tasteless and bland. It's clearly the end of an era. Trudys is no more.

Excellent service and the food was outstanding. John was absolutely phenomenal and made our experience wonderful. We had a party with a few food allergies and John was able to communicate and accommodate us fully. We will definitely be back just because of John.

Yelp
I have been an Austinite for last 10 years and have visited Trudy's south star over 50 times. My friends arrived from Boston and I decided to get to-go food from Trudy's so they could try some Tex mex. I ordered the veggie flaquities and veggie enchilladas- Got my order and drove home. On opening the order I see they were both meat. As we are vegetarians we could not consume either. On the order receipt it clearly says "veg" under the item. Very disappointed in Trudy's for this. They charged for me for it as well ! I called them and the person who answered the phone did not have authority to refund and said a manager would contact me next morning. They took down my number but no one contacted me. I am disappointed in the lack of customer care as well as the wrong order, as the attitude seems to brush off the mistakes. The quality of the establishment has gone down and I will not recommend it to anyone anymore.

Yelp
Good ambiance and place is pretty clean. We sat down and picked out a little of everything, however once the food came out it did not look like the description. The food had good flavors, but just was not what I was expecting. The big mistake on our behalf was ordering the mini stuff avocados which is basically a slice of fried avocado. To make matters worse the frozen margaritas came in a small glass, but with a big cup price. The flavors are good, but the price is low. Service was great so no issues there.

Yelp
What happened to Trudy's? The Mexican martini tasted like water. I ordered a Bloody Mary and it wasn't drinkable! It tasted like meat marinade. We left after appetizers and will not be back! There was also a hair in the ranch cup. $40 not well spent!

Yelp
Large venue, dog friendly, and beautiful servings. I ordered the Tex Mex Combo Plate, which comes with a crispy beef taco and two cheese enchiladas served with your typical rice and beans. Delicious! Our waiter was enjoyable and easy to talk to. Great service, great food. Easily returning to try out more!

Yelp
This is the tale of two patios....my favorite thing about this Trudy's is the patio. It's especially critical during the pandemic. I went once during the week for lunch and loved sitting out there, eating and working. It was breezy and quiet - just perfect! However, I went again with my family on a Saturday night and the patio was a mess. There was live music which was deafening, even when we moved to the table furthest from the musician. Also...there's smoking allowed on the patio! What year is this?!?! I thought that was banned more than a decade ago. We ate as quickly as we could and got out of there because it was not a place we wanted our toddlers to be. The food is good with massive portions. I've had the Cholula Honey Chicken and Shrimp Fajitas and want to go back and try more things on the menu.

Yelp
I guess nothing good lasts forever. The revamp looks nice, but the food and drinks are definitely in cost-cutting mode by the new owners. The cocktails had no hint of spirit, the migas enchiladas had two sightings of scrambled eggs and zero sightings of any tortilla strips -- like there was no stuffing inside my corn tortillas. The side of rice was dry and inedible. The wait on a weekday evening was 30 minutes for an outside table, longer for inside. The music outside was too loud, killing all conversing (and complaining). And of course, if you're sitting outside be prepared to share the space with other living creatures. For any OGs, the chicken stuffed avocado recipe has been changed and it's just not the same.

Yelp
My husband has been working in south Austin on business for the last 7-8 months, so I drive down from Dallas every month or so to visit. And my love language is queso- it's a slight obsession, but I make no apologies. So a few weeks ago when I arrived on a Friday afternoon after a super stressful week, I told the hubby I needed queso and a margarita- STAT. And I added (this is important) - we are NOT driving to 6th street and dealing with the nightmare of parking in Austin. Like WTF!? So he tells me when I arrived, "found a place and it's super close to the hotel." I was excited a hopeful. Well now this is basically my favorite place. The Mexican Martini (like a margarita) is so smooth! I could drink 3 or 4 EASILY, and the prices are silly for the value. The queso is the BEST in town. Yep, I said it. We split the fajitas and they never disappoint. We also tried some of the jalapeños that are dried or bacon wrapped- disappeared so fast I never got a photo. This is now my go-to place and it's less than a mile from the hotel. DONE. Oh yeah, and plenty of hassle-free parking!

Yelp
Trudy's used to be the go to spot, but sadly it has really fallen off and is quite frankly, just not good anymore. Nearly the whole menu is different. My last visit I got the chicken fajita salad and is was TERRIBLE. Literally just diced chicken on boring greens, nothing else. The drinks are probably the only thing they still have going for them. I miss the old Trudy's

Yelp
Food was good but service could have been a little better. Three of four entrees delivered but had to wait an extra 20 minutes for number 4.

Yelp
First time visiting for the free drink for elites night, the trending machine also happened to still be there so I got a Yelp candle and 5$ off food coupon. I got to meet other yelpers and even Katie B. Yelp ambassador! I also received special Yelp reusable cutlery! I had a great time meeting people, being outside on there gorgeous outdoor patio and bar, and truly enjoy the very strong tasty and free margaritas. I didn't have any food so I can't rate it but the service was a little slow but I was a busy night. Overall had a great time would try again in if in there area a it is very south but would recommend the drinks!

Yelp
Drink up but eat elsewhere Service was great! Everone was friendly and chatting with smiles. Yes. I could see Their smiles because their masks were pulled down (phase 2 of Covid reopening). No bueno! The palapa bar are was spaced out and full of people having a good time. Felt good to be out but a little concerned at how most seemed confident in the situation. While the tables were 6Ft alarm, the bar was mostly shoulder to shoulder. We took a high top in the corner to try and stay back. The drinks were flowing and as mentions the service was attentive. Our Happy Hour house margaritas and the Mexican Martinis were on point we we wanted for nothing. The food was average. Not sure you come here for the food. The bar scene/party feel is on point. Especially with the drink specials. And that's ok. We all need those. The chili con queso was cheesy and they offered the pico and guacamole on the side which was great. The sampler was not good. The stuffed peppers were soggy with a weird, hard, rainbow looking fried crust. We each had a bite but did not venture beyond it. The nachos portion was fine. I would order a whole plate over the sampler. The chicken taquitos were just ok too. A little soggy. Allot of meh. My Covid health conservativeness aside, the food is not good but the bar scene, service and drinks were. Come for the cocktails but eat somewhere else.

Yelp
It was our first time trying Tex Mex and it was amazing. Service was very quick and we got what we ordered very quick. The atmosphere was very welcoming as well. I would recommend to try their signature cholula entree and tacos.

Yelp
I was pretty disappointed in the food. The mini fried avocado is like 3 small ones with different sauces on the side. The fried rice shareable tasted bland. And the chips and salsa have gone downhill. They used to be thin and oily. The positives were that the Mexican Martini is still good and they did a Birthday dessert for my friend on the house with writing.

Yelp
Martinis are good- not too sweet. Food is good- not great but good. Martinis are good even when it's not HH. We had a server by the ame of Paul. Very attentive!!! So if you get him- he's great service!
