Best Restaurants in Durham, North Carolina | Eater Carolinas

"From towering fluffy biscuits to stacks of piping hot pancakes and crispy fried chicken atop waffles, True Flavors has been a staple on the Durham breakfast scene for years. The menu leans heavily into Southern classics with some modern twists — there’s a sweet and salt Chipotle blueberry chicken biscuit, brioche French toast topped with Oreos, and an open-faced blue crab omelet. Be prepared for a wait on the weekends." - Matt Lardie

Best Brunch Restaurants in Durham, North Carolina | Eater Carolinas

"True Flavors has had a few different locations over the years but its current South Durham iteration still serves the innovative Southern comfort food that it has become known for. A variety of omelets like jerk salmon, Cajun chicken, and North Carolina lump crab can be found on a menu that also includes biscuit sandwiches, spicy shrimp and grits, and country fried chicken and eggs. A sweet biscuit menu is a surefire kid-pleaser, as is the standalone mac ‘n cheese menu (although adults might also want a bite of the crab or roasted duck versions)." - Matt Lardie

Came for breakfast with parents and my teenage kids. Seated the 5 of us on a 4 top. Rather awkward seating as the tables are average sized for diner. Was somewhat busy when we arrived so pushing two tables together was likely out of the question. Casual dining, fairly relaxed atmosphere. Food came out quick and the server was excellent and attentive. The crab omelet and fried chicken seemed a bit underseasoned. That is the only criticism. The chicken was crispy and very tender otherwise. Everything else from the French toast, pork chop, southern egg sandwich were phenomenal. Parking is a bit limited in front of the restaurant but larger open parking in the shopping center is available. Overall, great place for brunch. Would come again.

A local Durham favorite! Very laid back vibe but still excellent service and the food is incredible!!!! They can take something as simple as a ham and cheese omelet and make it unique and so tasty. Great for breakfast, brunch, or lunch! But fyi they don’t have alcohol if you’re looking for it. However the food is so good I still highly recommend!

Google
Wonderful brunch spot! Great service, super cute decor and vibe. The biscuits were delicious - so many unique and delicious sounding menu options. We tried the berry lime French toast and the Pernil grits. The grits were delicious, pernil was tender. The French toast was thick and encrusted in what reminded me of a cinnamon roll. The lime berry butter was unique and addicting. The pork sausage was also delicious! This will be a regular in our brunch rotation!

I invited a friend to visit True Flavors for brunch this morning with the goal of supporting a minority owned business on Juneteenth. Upon arrival my friend had not made it into the restaurant as yet. The woman who greets patrons at the door asked that I step outside until my friend arrived as they do not seat you until all members of the party are present. This is a very small storefront diner. So I understood how crowded it can get. However, her delivery may not have carried so well with someone else. There was a gentleman in the kitchen, perhaps a head cook, who greeted us pleasantly when my friend arrived. I wish this demeanor had been carried out throughout the dining experience. We were seated and given 1 menu to share. Table settings had been left out and uncovered at the table. I asked our server for dining recommendations. I decided on the hazelnut iced coffee and the Fish & Grits which is served with 2 eggs of your choice. I ordered mine over easy. Mini Biscuits were delivered to the table. I did not enjoy these. Lackluster. My meal arrived and the presentation was spot on. I enjoyed this dish. The green onions and grits were very flavorful. I would compare the cheese grits to Mac & Cheese. it being served in a small skillet was a nice touch. The fish was fried very similar to chicken and was not overly seasoned or salted. I enjoyed my meal, however, the lack of courteous customer service was a big miss for me here and I don't have a reason to return. Often, when I attempt to support local businesses with staff of my own race, they low ball on the service and up charge on the dime. I have to dine where my dollar is appreciated & presence is valued.

On June 1, 2025, I visited Tru Flavors with my family, who were in town and we were looking forward to brunch. I’ve dined there before and had a great experience with the service and overall atmosphere. However, during this visit, I ordered a smoked salmon omelette. When it arrived, it wasn’t quite what I expected, so I politely asked if I could exchange it. My waiter returned and informed me that I would need to pay for it regardless. I then requested to speak with the owner. She was in the kitchen cooking, looked at my table, and, with an attitude, said she was busy and would just take the cost off my bill. I was very disappointed with her customer service—her attitude was rude and unprofessional. When I asked to speak to her directly, she told me to stand by the kitchen bar if I wanted to talk to her, which I found unacceptable as a paying customer. On a positive note, my waiter Isaiah was excellent and provided great service. Overall, I believe the owner could have handled the situation more professionally. Everyone has tough days, but customers should always be treated with respect.

Google
Cozy diner serving great food. I had the fried flounder and 3 cheese grits meal that also comes with 2 eggs cooked your way. The whole dish was delish and well seasoned, although I do think it was slightly overpriced at $19.50, $16 seems more. I'll still be back though

Best breakfast/brunch diner in Durham! Veggie Omelet and Harvest Veggie Hash, yum 😋 Wish they were open more days/hours. Thursday is less crowded than the weekend.

Google
We were in town for a concert this weekend and wanted to try a new spot we’ve never had before. This place popped up on google. The wait was long and we were about to turn around but I wanted to see what the wait and line outside was about, and I’m glad we waited. The food was absolutely delicious, seasoned well, well portioned and the staff was friendly and amazing. The atmosphere is a smaller setting so I could’ve understood the line once I got inside. But definitely go, you won’t regret it. And the prices are great for the amount of food as well.

Yelp
First time dinning here and will definitely come back. The food was excellent!! Enjoyed a great brunch and the service was great too!

Yelp
While meeting my friend for brunch on the way through Durham, she suggested this diner. I had low expectations upon pulling up and finding a place to park, but by the time we left, I was decisioning when we could possibly return for another visit. We waited about 45 minutes before we were seated which seemed typical for other review experiences so come prepared. There was a cute farmers market in the parking lot so we checked that out while waiting. All the menus are virtual, so scope out your order in advance of being seated. Our waiter was hilarious and friendly, providing great recommendations for the first timers. I didn't catch his name, but he was one of the best servers I have had in a while. There are at least two pages to the menu, make sure you get to see both sides! The food was so unique and unexpected. We had the chicken and waffles, which came with a chipotle blueberry sauce that really added dimension to the dish. I would recommend trying something outside your comfort zone, the flavors may surprise you! The overall location is cute and well decorated, with a combination of modern, vintage, and industrial design elements. I plan to go back many, many times in the future (but ready for the wait this time!).

Yelp
I am confused by all the 5 stars. This is a restaurant that will not see me return. Service is good, the food looks like high end fare and the exorbitant prices back it up, but the taste is flavorless, or just salty. Food served in delayed pieces and you get teeny tiny biscuits with a teeny tiny smear of jam to share. I omelet was 21.00. You do the math.
google avatar

Yelp
The food here is absolutely delicious. The ambience is crowded but cute and clean. I do agree that the service is not the friendliest which can make for an uncomfortable dining experience. Our last visit had more good than bad so I'm glad we went.

Yelp
Mom and pop brunch vibes, but artfully created dishes without compromising for value. Wait time was not terribly long- about 30 minutes (have to go in to get on wait list) and we got there at 11 on a Sunday. I got the quiche that was surprisingly in a mini cast iron skillet so it was slightly crispy and nicely hot. The truffle oil on top was a nice touch. I was also able to get a huge pancake in the side for only 4.50 but it's dressed in powdered sugar and butter. One of the best pancakes in the area, and their maple syrup is nice and hot! The fried chicken dishes are also good, and everything is aesthetically pleasing. The food comes out relatively quick and there's complimentary biscuits and jam (a bit too buttery but the jam is good!)

Yelp
The lemon blueberry french toast was phenomenal, and I could happily have just shared that for breakfast. The biscuits and gravy with the mushroom gravy wasn't as much of a win--maybe it really needs that meat gravy but I just wasn't feeling the extra sauciness of all that gravy on the biscuits. Toffee coffee was on the sweeter side, which I enjoyed but probably sweeter than most people like their coffee. Waitstaff was efficient and friendly.

Yelp
This was our second visit to True Flavors for weekend brunch. Be prepared to wait at least 30minutes to an hour. You can put your name on the list and get texted when your table is ready. You will receive a 5 minute grace period to arrive when your table is ready. We went to Starbucks down the road to wait since it was a colder morning. When we were seated, we could tell it was a very busy and hectic morning for the wait staff. It's important to be patient. I ordered the biscuits and gravy. The gravy is very savory compared to sweet. It is a generous amount of gravy poured on top of a GIANT biscuit. My friend got the strawberry French toast which was a 4inch thick cut slice of bread, perfectly toasted on the outside. Unfortunately, the point of sale system was down by the time our meal was over and we had to sit and wait for 30minutes before it was running again. That was not in the restaurants control but added to our waiting time as well and none of us had cash on hand.

Yelp
I have been enjoying the delicious food at True Flavors for several years now, I don't live that close so, it's not that frequent. Everything I have tried has been exceptional, from the Crispy Duck Hash to the Blueberry Pancakes and Chicken and Waffles. The service is just as excellent as the food! I love the upscale Diner vibe, the decor has always been so pleasing to me. If you're looking for really amazing southern cuisine and hospitality, check them out.

Yelp
Great food. Huge portions. Clean but classic diner ambiance. Very limited hours...it's that good! My favorite morning brunch place. The biscuits and gravy and the chicken & waffles are my favorite, but the blueberry pancakes are also another favorite. Good for small groups!

Yelp
I've been here a couple of times, not too often but each time I come I have a great experience. The service is always good and the food comes out very fast but it always very hot and fresh. For my most recent visit I came on a Sunday morning and there was no wait so I was pleasantly surprised about that. The inside is small but very cute with the old school dinner type feel to it. We were lucky enough to get in on a Sunday with no wait. Because it's so small there is usually a little bit of a wait. The service has always been very friendly there. I never have any complaints and this time was no different. Our drinks were always filled and the service is quick. We ordered our food and not to long after our biscuits came out. I always worry when the food comes out too fast that it's not going to be fresh but they were very hot and very delicious. The amount of food they give you is great. It can be a little expensive but it's not a small portion at all. If you ever want to indulge in some great food then I will definitely recommend this place. They have some unique options in terms of biscuits and I don't think one could go from coming here!

Yelp
The food in this spot is next level. I had the butter poached lobster and arugula omelet. The flavors were amazing. I added cheesy grits, and it was so good. My wife had the duck ragu over parmesean grits and loved. Our server was amazing, and the place itself has a laid-back vibe. A must go to!

Yelp
Was finally able to come after hearing about this place so much! Came with a party of 4 and didn't have to wait too long. There is plenty of parking in the strip mall though there are only a few spots available directly in front of the restaurant. My wife and I got the duck ragu over the Parmesan grits and the sweet chili roasted duck biscuit. Service: 4/5 Ambiance: 4/5 Food: 4.5/5 This is elevated southern food! We loved both the things we got. I especially loved the duck biscuit- the sweet chili complemented the duck really well and the biscuit was on point Price: 4/5 Next, I'll have to try their French toast!

Yelp
This was my fourth dining experience at True Flavors Diner, and it was one of the best. The wait was about 40 minutes on a beautiful Sunday afternoon in November and worth every minute. We were seated and our server brought us the delicious buttermilk biscuits right away. The jam of the day was blueberry and it was so delicious. We finally figured out what we wanted and the food came pretty quickly for a busy Sunday afternoon. I had the sweet potato waffle, topped with whipped butter and a amazing pecan sauce, I loved every single bite. My friend had the cheddar waffle with the fried pork chop. The flavor was absolutely amazing. I'm not normally a pork chop fan, but I could've eaten that one. The menu changes every weekend, so I'm excited to go back soon and try something new soon.

Yelp
True Flavors is tucked away in a shopping area of Morrisville/Durham not too far from RDU airport which if you find yourself with time on your hands and hungry makes this a perfect spot. True, has a cozy diner feel without having kitschy decor that one can find distracting. The menu isn't too extensive and I mean this in the best way- because I'm one of those patrons that take AGES to decide and thankfully my waiter was kind enough to help me pick a wonderful side to go along with my breakfast and with my friends as well. Recommendation is that you come very hungry because the food is delicious, rich and comfortable so one might miss out if you have even an inkling of having a snack first ;)

Yelp
Wow! This is not your typical diner! The food is super fresh and made to order. The omelet was so light and fluffy. The hardest part is deciding what to order. The have some cool offerings like wild boar, duck and elk. Seriously this isn't your grandpa's diner. We will be back to try some of the other things on the menu.
google avatar

Yelp
I definitely understand why this place is so busy and has a waiting time- definitely a great Sunday brunch treat! Though there is a wait time (and be ready to wait) they have a pretty good system set up and if you don't want to wait, you can also wait curbside and order. They have different menus, a weekday and weekend one, we came here on a Sunday- their menu is very versatile, you can find something for everyone and it's super unique, including crocodile nuggets, to duck, to chicken and even some vegetarian options. A mix os sweet and savory! The music inside is pretty fitting and adds a great vibe to the place, not too loud, just right. Everyone working here is very kind and attentive! Their service is really fast, we got all our food within 10 minutes of ordering- Including the complimentary biscuits and this time we had their mandarin orange jam with them. The portions are huge (see the photo with my hand compared to the sweet chili roasted duck crackle biscuit) and their gravy smothered biscuit is a must! Though their biscuits aren't the absolute moist or best I've ever had, they're still really buttery and the complex flavors that compliment it makes it so good. Definitely recommend the sweet chili roasted duck crackle biscuit- they give you a lot of duck and everything compliments one another! I would wish for a but more of the sweet chili but overall really good. I have to come back to try their other menu and other options!

Yelp
In the world of diners...True Flavors would be a 5 star Restaurant! The brioche French toast was devilishly SWEET. Sweet potatoe biscuit was great not what I expected. My father raved about how good the sausage and strawberry waffles taste! Service was great! Diner is very small. The only downside is you have to wait outside for a table. My parents were with me, and I was concerned about how long they had to wait outside standing up for a table.

Yelp
I first heard about this place on Facebook, the review wasn't a nice one. A food critic had a very bad experience, and posted the exchange for all to see w/ commentary. I'll admit, I said if I ever visited that area, they would not be on my list. Let me tell you, I'm so happy this place snuck up on me. My only request, while on vacation, was to eat somewhere that was a community staple and that's what I got! To start: The biscuits: They were good. I don't think they were worthy of writing home, but, when paired with the delicious jam, it elevated the overall taste. That was a great way to start our lunch. The BLT+E w/ the garlic aioli and mac n' cheese: The BLT was so good, and so different. I'm a fan of BLT's, but they switched the game up a bit and added an egg. I tell you what, that egg added a layer of goodness, that I could eat over and over (ouch, the carbs). The garlic aioli, was the perfect compliment to the sandwich, another great choice. They didn't cheat when it came to the bacon, everything was plentiful. The only drawback, I could take from this. The bread was toasted in butter, and after a couple of bites and combined with the mac n' cheese, it became a bit heavy. Mac n' cheese: It was gooey, and everything you'd expect mac n' cheese to be. Again, if there were any drawback, I'd say it could use a bit of seasoning. When you're dealing something where a lot of cheese is included, sometimes the cheese doesn't always speak for the whole dish. The cheese, also, added to the heaviness, and I expected that. Even so, it was dang delicious! The staff were kind and very pleasant, they made us feel welcomed the moment I walked in. This diner is definitely worth the visit, you owe it to yourself.

Yelp
Would absolutely not recommend going here. I went to pick up lunch prior to a flight today and when I walked in, was looked at like I had 3 heads. Someone came up and asked if I needed help, so I said yes I'd like to dine in. They said their last seating is at 130. Looked at my watch, it was literally 131. I did not see last seating information anywhere prior to going there. They then said they actually stop at 1:15. That's not on their site or IG. If you advertise closing at 2pm, close at 2 or clearly indicate other necessary information. They didn't even say if you could take food to-go vs sitting. If you don't want to work, don't worry, I don't want to support you! I'll never return when I'm back in the area on business, and will alert all the colleagues at my company that wanted my review because they'd never heard of you, that your restaurant is not worth trying. Smh

Yelp
Poor customer service over the phone. Do your favor and don't call the restaurant if you need clarification on anything, because the lady on the phone is extremely rude when asking for clarification. Also, they do not allow you to order everything on the menu as a to go order, which she could've nicely stated. I ordered the mushroom egg and cheese biscuit, and the berry French toast. Both were tasty. I didn't appreciate the arugula on the biscuit or the bacon on the French toast.
google avatar

Martha K.

Yelp
I was looking forward to eating here as it was recommended to me. We had a party of 6. They would not accommodate our party even though there were open tables they could have pushed together. So my group sat at one table with 2 people at the bar. Let me just say that the menu looks phenomenal. I ordered the Mascarpone peach French toast. It was covered in cinnamon sugar which was the only remarkable thing about it. The eggs were runny even though I asked for firm, bacon undercooked. My friend had the Rum soaked Blackberry French toast with no blackberries soaked in rum. Kind of the point. She ended up in the bathroom for hours. The waitress seemed like she didn't want to be there. The staff all seemed unhappy. It was a big old bucket of unwelcome. Nothing there was worth the feeling like they couldn't care less if you dined or not.
google avatar

Michele T.

Yelp
Decided to drop in on our way to church this morning and we're so glad we did. Since it was early (8am) there were a few people dining in, but we were immediately greeted by the cheerful and bubbly hostess and able to pick our own table. Our waiter was there taking our drink order within seconds and he was equally as cheerful. Our food orders were taken and we had our food, hot off the griddle, within 10 minutes. Everything was delicious! Although the space isn't very large, it's well lit, extremely clean and the music choice is just right. I'd advise anyone to get there early if possible because after 9am on the weekends, you'll probably have a wait. Regardless of wait time, do yourself a favor and check them out. Your tastebuds will thank you.
google avatar

Diane W.

Yelp
Huuuuuge portions! I would prefer less portions and to pay less but you get a lot for your money. The French toast is a slab of brioche bread. The complimentary biscuits were delicious. It's a heavy meal though. The inside is very cute and looks like a trendy diner. Service was pretty quick.

Riah S.

Yelp
Horrible customer service, petty people with terrible attitudes & the food isn't even worth it. There are plenty of other options in the area with decent people serving.
google avatar

Sherena S.

Yelp
Food was pretty good. Good portions Price was fair. Service was alright. I did call before coming in and the lady who picked up the phone was a bit spicy. Ambiance is alright. Almost nothing on the online menu or yelp was available
google avatar

Terrance G.

Yelp
Hidden gem nestled in the corner of stripmall location. True Diner Atmosphere with good energy from the staff even with the hustle and bustle of the location being packed. Ordered their Black Berry Rum French Toast. The thick cut brioche bread was surprising not mushy from absorbing too much batter or being undercooked, which is a common flaw at some restaurants. Definitely will return to sample their other French Toast Flavors. Their buttery busicuits are light and fluffy goodness. Go early, because this location stays busy during brunch and does not take reservations or add to waitlist until at the restaurant.

Yelp
We went to True Flavor Diner when they opened yesterday, Friday and it was already doing a brisk business; glad we didn't wait! Nice clean place; menu about the same as online. Good that we looked first as there are so many good choices. I Loved my delicious, huge plate of oversized biscuit gravy choice of meat (I chose duck!) , veggies and two eggs. They gave us each a small complimentary. biscuit with a nice preserve while our order was being filled. I loved my food. I felt the amount of food and good service justified the price. My husband was less pleased because he said his food was too salty. Our friend ordered pancakes- which were so large they nearly hung over her plate. She didn't eat much of her huge sausage patty but said she hadn't specified what type of meat she wanted. They did put the powdered sugar on the side as she requested and she was happy that the syrup was nice and wam. Staff were friendly and helpful. We brought home enough food for a complete meal, not just a snack. I will return, I want to try other items on the menu, especially ones with crispy chicken.

Yolanda R.

Yelp
The staff is absolutely terrible. They are rude and the restaurant environment is ordinary. There is not a wow factor! The food was below average.

Truth M.

Yelp
I sat at the bar. Service was quick and the food was absolutely flavorful and delicious. I'm so cautious now of having really good and flavorful food due to having to watch my sodium intake. The portions were unbelievable. I drove from Greensboro so it was an about a 45 minute drive. I had to make sure I rolled my windows down on the way back because I needed a nap after eating.

Yelp
Visiting the area and ran across this spot. Diners are definite gems so we were excited to try. The restaurant isn't very big and is located in a strip near a lot of businesses. We stepped inside and there were a few open tables but we were told there would be a 35-40 minute wait but the bar was open. I usually don't do bar sitting but we really wanted to try this spot. The bar faces the cooks in kitchen just fyi. Our server at first I felt was a bit snippy when she asked what we wanted and I said to her we were provided a menu so she said to me well you didn't scan the QR code before you came in? No, we didn't know we needed to. It's not what you say, it's always the delivery. The rest of the service was good. Restaurant was nice & clean. Big portion sizes on the food, food fresh & good.

Yelp
Everything 10/10 Food was out of this world. Had the Fish and grits! Also the blueberry chipotle chicken biscuit!! Kisses to the chef! Quaint! Service like you were the only one be served. Offered honest opinions and other patrons reviews on menu options. Help narrow the choice down. Very friendly and knowledgeable about what was being served.

Yelp
I couldn't wait to sample the authentic flavors at True Flavors. For a weekday is was surprisingly busy. Our waiter was excellent, understanding that altering the dish might affect its amazing flavor combination. I opted for the country fried chicken, and while the gravy and chicken skin were delightful, the overall dish left me somewhat underwhelmed. On the other hand, my sister-in-law's choice of the blueberry biscuit was absolutely delicious. Despite this, I still had a pleasant experience, and the restaurant proved to be a great spot to dine.

Yelp
Feeling adventurous or just feeling a usual breakfast staple? True Flavors is for you! One of my absolute favorite weekend breakfast spots in the Raleigh area, they offer a quality menu that features both standard dishes and rotating seasonal items that don't disappoint. It is a smaller dining location modeled in a modern take of a classic diner and provides a bustling and communal type ambiance. The service has been a bit slow at times but nothing out of the ordinary for weekend breakfast rush, but, typically arriving before 930 will get you a quick table. Enjoy!
google avatar

Emma T.

Yelp
Wow this place is amazing. The flavors are dynamic and delicious. You'll get something that reminds you of traditional southern food but with a dash of something really special. I had the strawberry honey waffles and the shrimp hoisin biscuit. Both were out of this world. The service is terrific - friendly, fast and welcoming. If you're headed there on a Saturday it starts to get busy around 10, so be prepared for a bit of a wait. Bring your phone - the menus are all digital. :) I'll be back soon!!!

Yelp
Came here after checking out the online menu. First thought was that it was a cool little spot, nicely decorated. The menu is online using a QR code and believe me, it is nothing like the one you see when checking Yelp. When I tell you that everything was grossly overpriced believe me. My total bill was $48 before tip for 2 of the most basic put together meals and 2 coffees before tip. I would never go there again, because frankly it wasn't even that good. It was just one rung above ok. Peach French Toast with eggs and Turkey Bacon $16 and a make shift Crab Omelette that was lacking all flavor besides the overwhelming amount of butter for $21.50. The potatoes were basic and not good. The complimentary biscuits were the best thing we got, but the jelly was gross. Save your money folks and just got to McDonalds. Your experience will be better, and your wallet will be thicker.
google avatar

Lexi G.

Yelp
We would give this 5 stars, but it was kind of expensive for a Saturday morning brunch with only two people, so we'll stick with 4. I ordered a vanilla iced coffee, and for an iced coffee, it was wonderful. If you're wanting true cold brew, maybe have them go light on the cream. They brought us complimentary mini biscuits while we waited. I ordered the sweet potato honey chicken biscuit with cheese (it was one of the only sweeter biscuit options) and it was sooooooo good! My husband got the chopped chicken gravy biscuit with bacon and he really liked it, but wished it came as a whole fried chicken piece rather than chopped. We thought they'd have all the blueberry chipotle options and bbq options that Debbie Lou's menu had, but it was different than we expected. Service was super fast, ambiance was joyful, food was delicious, bill was ehhhh.
google avatar

Britt J.

Yelp
This wasn't your typical diner. The food wasn't overly greasy. If you're looking for a diner with good food, and service- this is it. I tried the sweet potato biscuit & it was divine. Can't wait to go back.

Yelp
This place is not for everyone. If you have any kind of food allergies or need any sort of accommodations, you're better off going elsewhere. While I can understand a restaurant not allowing substitutions, I can't understand why they would not allow someone to ask for a sauce on the side rather than on top of the dish. (My aunt wanted the pork chop which comes 'topped' with gravy, and rather than letting her have the gravy on the side, they told her to order something else instead.) And the reason we were told this is because the restaurant didn't want the presentation of the dish to suffer. Similarly on a previous visit, a friend asked if she could exclude the SIDE of eggs from a dish, because she is allergic, and once again was told they could not make that accommodation, and had to find something else to order. With that being said, the food is good. I had the orange BBQ duck biscuit and loved it. The biscuit was great and went marvelously with the duck, bacon, orange syrup, and eggs. My aunt ended up having to order random sides so she could have something to eat...and wound up with grits and sausage. And while those were good, it was a bit of a disappointment because she couldn't get what she actually came for. Service was fast and efficient once we actually got in the door after a 40 minute wait. I wouldn't describe our waitress as friendly. She was very brief with us and seemed more intent on getting our orders in and getting the table turned over. So the final verdict here is that the food is great and the customer service and hospitality is lacking.

Yelp
I wish there were a 0-star option; I ordered eggs over easy. I got overcooked scrambled eggs. I asked for extra bacon. It was cold like ice. The "Waitress" could not have cared less in any regard. She deserved a $0.00 tip, but for some dumb reason, i gave her 10 bucks. Never again. I will go back there, get the same HORRIBLE service, then ask to speak to the chef and owner and say is this the best you can do? And if the waitress acts the same, I'll tip her exactly one penny. It's just pathetic. If this shop were in a state where there was actual competition for food, they would be* shut down in a month. But in NC, you can get away with anything. Do not go here, ever. Horrible food, TERRIBLE service. Can't even make eggs over easy at a breakfast spot. Does it get more sad?

Yelp
I had to take a moment to cool off before writing this review. My recent visit to this restaurant was a complete disappointment. It was my first time there, and while the hostess was friendly, things took a nosedive from there. Upon scanning the QR code for the menu at the bar, we waited for about 10 minutes before a waiter, who I later found out was the manager, hurried us to order drinks. When I had a question about the menu, she rudely instructed me to only look at the weekend menu, despite there being two menus available. Trying to order, I was told they were out of the sliced chicken bacon biscuit, which left me puzzled since I was guided to a different menu without this information. So I decided to order the sausage biscuit. Once the food came out the waiter asked if we needed anything else. The experience hit its low point when I asked for grape jam and was told I could only have the jelly that came with a biscuit. In frustration, I requested the bill and decided never to return. I advise others to do the same. This was a first and last visit, and it left me utterly disgusted with the service.

Yelp
For sure I'm eating here every time I visit the Durham/Chapel Hill area. The food was fresh, hot, plentiful, delicious and quickly delivered to our table - and with impeccable service too! Highly recommend. I loved everything but the complimentary biscuits to start and Cajun grits side left an exceptionally pleasant and lasting impression.

Yelp
Roasted duck and caramelized onion omelette, duck ragu over Parmesan grits, blackberry mascarpone cheese french toast and the complimentary biscuits with jam...I have no words! Everything was spectacular! The wait to be seated was about 20 mins

Yelp
I went to this diner today in Durham NC and it was a very good experience. The food was OD GOOD. Great diner food with a Southern twist. I ordered the chicken and waffle with fresh blueberries. The fried chicken cutlet was well seasoned and very tender like butter.. The service was on point also. If you're ever in the area stop in and see for yourself what True Flavor Diner/Restaurant is cooking up in their kitchen. You won't be disappointed. LG

Yelp
Took my 1 year old daughter to meet a friend there for breakfast at 9am. Got there and the wait staff was incredibly rude. I asked to talk to a manager and was stonewalled. There are over 100 one star reviews of True Flavors. I wish I read the reviews more closely before going.

Yelp
Everything was great. The lobster omelette was SO good! Great service & the music & feel of a true old school diner!

Yelp
Best friend was in town. So what do we do? BRUNCH! True Flavors is a gem. Such unique dishes and I was excited to try them all after seeing the menu. Since it was the holidays however I had to try the seasonal EGG NOG FRENCH TOAST. It was so good but I could have shared it because it was huge! Everything along with it was delicious. Service was a little slow but that's because it was busy and it's a smaller place. I recommend going as early as possible. The waitlist was very convenient so I was able to stay updated on my spot in line. Took about an hour but still worth it in my opinion. Looking forward to going back with the fiancé and trying another dish.

Yelp
Amazing!!!!!! Where do I even begin?! The service was great, super fast and outstanding! The food was hands down the best thing I've had since visiting here! The music was a vibe as I sipped my ice coffee! Everyone was just enjoying being there!! I wanted to order everything but I knew I couldn't finish my food! I would definitely go back! But plan in advance because they are not opened everyday,

Yelp
Very good I like the portions, the thick and when I say thick brioche bread French toast was very flavorful, eggs where pretty good and seasoned, got side of bacon wish yall had turkey options available. The French toast was sweet I didn't eat it with any syrup. Also check out Debbie Lou's biscuit, I've ordered the cinnamon biscuit, the famous chipotle blueberry biscuit

Yelp
Piss poor service and attitude. First off he asked us what we wanted without bringing us a menu. Told the server my mom was a vegetarian and he still brought out grits covered in meat. Then had an attitude. After I noticed he had an attitude I asked was he okay and his response was "what are you my psychiatrist? Mind your damn business" after that I asked for the manager. He walked by and said "she'll be by at her convenience" Then she came by and after I told her. She said "so is there anything I can get for you" no apology. No consideration. Will NEVER return here.

Yelp
Omg the experience I had at this place with my server and the attitude that she had was terrible. I tried speaking to the lady that greets you at the door and while I was explaining my sever attitude she said well no one else is complaining and just walked away. I have loved coming to here because the food is good but today is the last day I will spend my money here. Some of our people make it hard to support them!
