Tom Sietsema Says Fabio Trabocchi’s Paella Beats José Andrés’ Version - Eater DC

"The restaurant aims to appeal to families with 'sizzle plates' like seared steak with fries and various sauces. Positives include roast chicken with cauliflower and hot fudge sundaes with poundcake, pecan brittle, and dulce de leche." - Tierney Plumb

Google
True Food Kitchen never disappoints! The service is always amazing—friendly, attentive, and welcoming. Their Blackened Salmon with Kale Salad is an absolute must-try. The salmon is perfectly cooked, and the kale salad is fresh, flavorful, and the perfect complement. If you’re looking for a delicious and healthy meal, this is the place to go!

Food: Had the best avocado toast I ever had. The bread was thick and tasty, soft but crispy in all the places. Avocado was fresh and the spices added was a good touch for some added flavor. Service: Hana did a great job taking care of us. She was friendly, welcoming, polite and very patient. Atmosphere: Calm and earthy atmosphere. Music was the perfect volume. Good amount of light coming in and lots of plants on the perimeter of the restaurant (int.) .

True Food Kitchen is one of a kind. Not only do you get the best healthy food, but you also get the best service. It doesn't matter whether you come alone or in a group, you will enjoy the place. I have been coming to True Food Kitchen for the last two years with my laptop to enjoy good wine, fabulous food, friendly servers, and a welcoming ambiance while working on my projects. The server Hana is excellent, caring, and personable. I give her five stars for her superb service.

Google
As someone new to the area, I was honestly skeptical about finding a great brunch spot in Bethesda—but True Food Kitchen completely proved me wrong. The menu is full of fresh, flavorful options that make you feel good about what you're eating, and the atmosphere is perfect whether you're catching up with friends or flying solo with your laptop. Bryce, my server, was an absolute gem—warm, attentive, and made me feel right at home. Great conversation. I’m so glad I found this place!

Excellent meal. Surprising that it was NOT too loud. The food was good, and Katie was an excellent server. Both the cauliflower and the Brussels sprouts were well seasoned. Yummy!

Google
Great environment, spacious, clean. The foods menu looks like they try to make everything transparent, ingredients look healthy. The taste is like 7/10, might need more flavor. The service is friendly.

Yelp
The food was great and I liked all of the options I could choose from! The ambiance and service was great as well.

Yelp
The first thing I noticed right off the bat - besides the gorgeous interior - was the service of the host and waitstaff! Prakash had us settled in quickly and sold us on some of his favorite dishes - especially the sweet corn flatbread. It was delicious! He also recommended the drinks - I highly recommend the lavender matcha latte and any of the spritzers. My party of four ordered salads, pizza, and grain bowls and we were all very impressed! The chopped salad was a perfect meal on a hot day. The fresh fruit and nuts were great and the cheese complemented it perfectly! We also opted for guacamole for the table which was delicious; it took a unique approach with a pistachio pesto. It was great, and the tortilla chips were fresh and seasoned greatly. The prices were also fantastic for the area, and it's in a gorgeous part of Bethesda. This is a perfect stop for lunch!

Yelp
I hadn't been to Bethesda in a LONG time. But I was in the area and very much wanted to catch up with a good friend. Knowing that I was scouting the M in the DMV, she suggested we grab a bite at True Food Kitchen and I could have the added bonus of poking around the area and see how it suited me. Good plan. Walking in, I was surprised to find that the dining room is much larger than it appears from the outside (the windows and abundant natural light help with this). Despite arriving at peak dinner time, I was pleased to see that the place wasn't super packed. People's breath is deadly, folks. You have to choose wisely in these streets. I was approached by a very friendly server who walked me through the concept and menu. My friend was running late, so I order a strawberry margarita for me (perfect for late Spring) and a Tito's mule for her. Using my powers of timing, both drinks were delivered as my friend arrived and sat down. The marg was flavorful and strong. Even though I wasn't driving I decided I'd stick to one drink. Plus, True Food Kitchen is all about being healthy so... healthy it was. We started with the charred cauliflower. Being both vegan and gluten-free, it was an easy choice for our twosome. The date, tahini, dill, and pistachio combo ensured that we made quick work of it. I thought about being a gentleman and letting her get the bonus of the dish but then remembered that she's known me for [redacted] years and, thus, she KNOWS me and I went all in devouring the cruciferous concoction. Staying on the vegan and gluten-free tip, I chose the Korean noodle bowl (with chicken) for my main. I was very happy to receive a large portion of glass noodles, shiitake mushrooms, spinach, carrots, bean sprouts, and a nice amount of protein. Even better? The bowl was seasoned. The fear is that something like this could be bland (when not served from an ethnic origin). Nope! The chef was not afraid of flavor and my mouth approved. I wanted to finish the meal with the flourless chocolate cake but they were out. My loss was my friend's gain and she repaid my cauliflower greed with going all in on the cookies and ice cream. She enjoyed it. I side-eyed her. I see why TFK is RHOP-approved. If/when I lived in the DMV I could see having a shady lunch here myself. I just may have to. P.S. Not for nothing but the bathrooms were VERY clean. Like, noticeably so.

Yelp
Well, it's healthy. And it tastes like it. But seriously... Things started well. The hostess was really nice and got me seated quickly. It's a pretty restaurant. It took a few minutes before my server came by, and I grabbed a drink when he did. It took kinda longer than I would have expected to get one drink in a mostly empty restaurant, but whatever. The blood orange margarita was pretty good, although the decorative salt and lime/lemon zest rum that extended all the way down one side of the glass was prettier than it was functional. Once that glass started sweating...kind of ewww. When my server finally returned, I asked for a glass of water (what is this, California?) and ordered the cauliflower app and the Chinese chicken salad for my entree. (Did I want a burger? Yes! Should I have gotten a burger?) And then I enjoyed my drink and eventually my water for what seemed like a really long time. Look, I was reading a book, I didn't count the minutes, but for a quiet restaurant with few tables, I was surprised at long it took to get my appetizer. I really liked the cauliflower - the char was good but the florets were still crisp, the sauce is so yummy, the dates add that perfect sweetness, and the nuts and dill are a surprising contrast. I ate about half of it, expecting my salad. And then I waited...and waited...and ate more cauliflower...and waited. Finally my salad arrived. It was very cute, with a lovely mix of greens, chicken, watermelon radish strands, snap peas, crunchy almonds and quinoa, and a teeny tiny avocado half as garnish. The dressing was a carrot ginger that didn't have quite enough salt or ginger for punch but it was really fresh and very filling. Or maybe that was the cauliflower. Overall, I enjoyed True Food Kitchen but felt its service left something to be desired. I also felt the food was good, but not great. I didn't leave wanting to come back and try more things, sadly.

Yelp
Excellent food but very pricy for what it is and not so filling. Service was great and there was plenty of available seating at a weekday lunch time. The salmon was perfectly cooked in the salad I tried. I just wish there had been more somehow for it to be a bit more filling!

Yelp
We love Tru Kitchen and especially this location! The servers are always cool and helpful with the selections. This time we tried their brunch menu. I had the Rancher's Hash while my husband had the tacos and pizza. Everything was so good and the right amount portion wise. Afterwards we had dessert which didn't disappoint either!

Yelp
I will admit...I was a bit skeptical of this restaurant because it was labeled as a "health food" restaurant. At least for me, in the past health food restaurants can be very hit or miss, and for me they were mostly misses. We were seated relatively quickly and our waiter was attentive; I had no problem getting drink refills. I ordered the teriyaki quinoa bowl. I was a little worried since I am a picky eater and there were several ingredients in the bowl that I was unsure if I would like (bok choy, snap peas, pickled shiitake). However, the food came out and whatever sauce they used made everything taste amazing!! Everything was very flavorful and I ended up finishing the whole bowl. I will say this restaurant is a bit on the pricey side (around $25-26) since I added a protein to my bowl. All in all, the food was well worth it and our service was good as well.

Yelp
Great experience my first time dining here. The waitress was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. I had the steak with a bottle of Malebec for the table. The steak was cooked to my liking and I really loved the black rice as well as the pepper sauce that accompanied it. The carrot cake with vegan ice cream was also unique and a sweet way to end the meal. The ambiance was kind of typical Chevy Chase/Bethesda crowd. It was raining so it was empty and I was glad. Otherwise it would have been very noisy and one of my dining partners said it does get loud when it's busy.

LaDreena W.

Yelp
All of it was food! The service was quick, the butternut squash soup was delicious and so was my peach mojito. I had a sourdough pizza that I'm not sure I realized wasn't going to be cheesy but it was truffle and hot honey so it made up for the lack of cheese I typically expect on a pizza.
google avatar

Daniela H.

Yelp
I guess it is okay. Kudos for being so creative! Some items really have a great combination of flavors and textures but the majority of dishes are pretty bland and meh for me. The service is inconsistent. One day it is great and you get the best attention and other days you have to pray to get a waiter come to your table. I guess that with the variety of vegan, vegetarian, GF, and regular food offerings this place offers a good spot for groups of people with different dietary preferences.

Yelp
I can't recommend this location of true food kitchen enough. The food is consistently delicious, and the drinks are tasty and unique. The bartender Alex is always friendly and accommodating. He goes above and beyond for his customers. The ambience is always relaxing, and the restaurant is always clean. I come here at least once a month.

Yelp
I like this restaurant, but its delivery service is always lackluster. It never fails that the products are not packaged properly and they always arrive with some kind of a problem. I haven't left reviews about this in the past. But I'm tired of it happening. So I want to make my voice heard. This time around, I ordered the turkey burger with a side kale salad, dressed. They put both items in the same small package, which means that the side salad started leaking onto the bottom of the bun during the time it took to deliver the item to me. I ended up with a soggy bottom bun that was almost completely soaked through on one side and was super squishy and difficult to hold everywhere else. I ate it, but I wasn't great. Next time, the salad needs to be packaged separately from the sandwich. And the kitchen should already know that!

Yelp
i came here for sunday brunch with a friend. for parking, i parked in waverly garage which is my usual parking spot in that area of bethesda as it's free on sundays. there was no wait to be seated and there seemed to be plenty of open seats around us. the ambiance felt cozy. my friend and i split the brunch tower and blueberry pancakes. i asked our server how filling the brunch tower was and she recommended getting something else as well since the brunch tower was all small bites. we ended up not being able to finish the pastries in the brunch tower, but those were easy to take to-go so i feel that it worked out - we got to sample things in the brunch tower but also had a main entrée. i think this place is known for being healthy and i definitely felt that the pastries were not too sweet, which i liked. i also ordered a peach lemonade and enjoyed it. overall very solid spot for healthy brunch!

Yelp
We arrived for a quick lunch date after the salt cave. First off, I was torn between grass-fed beef and burgers, sustainable salmon, and the panini. But since hubby got the burrito bowl I tried the teriyaki bowl. It was yummy!!! And because of the veggies it felt healthy!!! I was happy with this choice. I gave him my slice of avocado and he enjoyed his bowl as well w/o any added protein. Hubby was so hungry he was fast and ordered the Brussels sprouts for our appetizer (I wanted to try the buffalo cauliflower-next time I guess). The flavor wasn't bad. They were kinda spicy with a sweet-ish Asian taste. They also had a bite to them, which I didn't mind others may. I personally like my veggies to have crunch. Hana was nice to bring us two lil expresso size mugs of tomato soup which was tasty. This was the right amount for me. The cheese foam and the crumbled bits of bread gave the palette a charge of grilled cheese and tomato soup in every slurp. I appreciate her kindness in doing this since she knew about the appetizer faux pas. The look of the restaurant is clean and vibrant. It is also somewhat big and at that time we could be seated apart from other parties helping to keep the lunch date vibe going! Lastly, I did try a hot ginger, honey lemon tea. It wasn't bad reminded me of a lollipop. Not the flavor profile I was seeking but it wasn't bad. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and can not wait to try the Annapolis location (closer to home). Give it a try and tell us what you think!

Yelp
True Food Kitchen is always a staple option for plant based eating. We have one at home and we're happy to visit this location while traveling. Food quality is just as good here as at home and the inside looks cute. We just did take out, so I can't comment on staff or service except to say the front of the house was friendly. There were a few meters right outside for pickup (not an option during commute hours though).

Yelp
We've been meaning to try this place and had our first opportunity recently and happy we did. We we're Balt to be seated immediately and quickly greeted by our server. He was enthusiastic and knowledgeable of the menu and willing to provide insight to everything available. He provided an overview of the mission and food vision which was helpful. My wife ordered the burrito with tofu and it was tasty and well balanced. Our server said the tofu would absorb the flavor and he was spot on. I had the chicken panini. When it came out I was skeptical but after tasting it I was quite surprised. The mozzarella and chicken were perfectly blended. I also had the kale salad which isn't something I'd normally order but definitely will again. The only criticism was the oil that gathered on the panini but it didn't impact the meal. It's a clean and fresh restaurant that we'll definitely visit again soon.

Yelp
Came in with three friends and Nico was our server. He was the best!!! We had excellent espresso martinis thanks to Brandon. Great experience.

Yelp
Really good lunch. Had just landed in town and was hungry. Looking for something healthy. Came across this place and it hit the spot. Nice selection of protein bowls and salads. The tomato soup looked good too. Service was spot on, waitress was helpful.

Brooke R.

Yelp
My bartender, Brandon was extremely attentive and friendly and made sure I had everything I needed through the entire time I was here dining. Great service as always!
google avatar

Yelp
This was my first time visiting this location. I got the Spaghetti Squash Casserole with tofu. The top was perfectly broiled adding an extra layer of texture and flavor. The sauce was spread throughout the dish and I was able to get a bit of everything in each bite. I went with a group to celebrate a friend and we arrived at different times. One person ordered later but they were still able to bring out all our food at the same time. The server was great making sure my friend felt special. He recommended the flourless chocolate cake to end the meal. It was perfect to split across all of us and had a scoop of ice cream that balanced out the richness of the chocolate.

Yelp
True Food Kitchen is SO GOOD. It is truly a feel good and look good food vibe. Food is creatively crafted, drinks are incredibly vibrant with color and flavor, and the atmosphere is even refreshing. They use local ingredients, have their own code of internal standards for food used and served and they have staff that are aware of all major FDA allergens. They have a nutrition guide on their website so you can easily add your meal to MyFitnessPal or Weight Watchers! I have had the Creamy Tomato Soup (5/5), Mediterranean Hummus (4/5), Citrus Salmon Salad (4/5), Burrito Bowl (5/5), Spicy Panang Curry Bowl (5/5) and all their fresh pressed juices (5/5). Happy hour is Monday through Friday between 3:00 - 6:00pm. Their happy hour menu includes $4.00 small bites, $5.00 beer, $6.00 wine, $8.00 cocktails and 1/2 off bottles of wine.
google avatar

Sam S.

Yelp
I'll start with the bartender was great. He was on top of refilling my wine and even helped me make a food choice. However, most of the food just wasn't yummy. The chicken tenders were breaded and baked. The elote-style corn was sporadically mayoed and seasoned (I took a knife to even it out). The mac "and cheese" was just gross - no cheese at all. However, the meatloaf sliders were great! I didn't read properly so I thought I was getting a burger, but the combo of cheese, mushrooms and sauteed onions was spot on. Not worth the price; but you win some, you take some food home to fix it.

Yelp
My wife and I visited the Bethesda location. Our server was extremely helpful and kind. She explained basically they only cook with good oils. Everything is fresh and organic. The terminology today is clean food. My wife ordered a gin and pineapple martini and it was delicious.! They have an open kitchen concept and the cooks bring the food right to you after they prepare it! Which I thought was a great touch and would answer any questions you might have. I ordered the OG burger medium and it came out perfect so juicy and flavorful the grilled onions on the burger were fantastic and it came with a side of roasted baby red potatoes that were. Delicious. My wife ordered a salad with fresh grilled salmon and the salmon was prepared just the way she liked it not pink in the center and not overly done. Definitely a great concept and the food was extremely tasty. I would highly recommend it. They also have outside seating for a pretty spring evening.

Yelp
One of of my go to spots. Made a new friend today. Her name was Hana and she is a fabulous waitress. Can't wait to see her again soon! Ralph thought It was very kind of her to bring him a beverage as he watched me enjoy my meal

Yelp
Alex and Andrew never fail to exceed my expectations with their attentiveness and work ethic.

Yelp
Me and my husband recently went here to eat, we were hunting for new places to try and it didn't disappoint, food was great and super tasty and the service was amazing people are super nice and welcoming

Yelp
I love how True Food Kitchen changes their menu with the seasons and clearly marks what items are vegan. Additionally, they make it unbelievably easy to split checks and have a very user friendly payment option using a QR code. I enjoyed the vegan butternut squash pizza which is their seasonal pizza for the fall. The vegan ricotta was the perfect creaminess, and all the toppings were seasoned well and delicious. My only reason for not giving True Food Kitchen 5 stars is because their vegan options are limited. They are so accommodating to vegetarians, and I wish there was more variety on the menu for vegans. Hopefully their next seasonal menu will have more vegan items.

Piper O.

Yelp
Absolutely loved the food and the service here! I don't usually write reviews, but my exceptional server Samantha was incredible from the moment we sat down. She took time to go over the menu with us and steered us in the right direction with the roasted butternut squash pizza! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
google avatar

Patrick S.

Yelp
If you care about what goes into your food then this place is for you. Freshness is off the charts and the chefs are chefs! The turkey burger was perfectly cooked. NO dried out white meat here!! The Curry Bowl is a star! The flavor is as good as it gets and fresh veggies to go with it. Service is exactly what you would expect from such a quality restaurant. Price point is reasonable so no worries.
google avatar

Parisa A.

Yelp
Our server was really friendly and helpful in picking a meal to get that was allergy friendly. I got a breakfast sandwich here and it was pretty good! I wish the meat was cooked a little more. Also, the portion wasn't as big so I'd recommend getting two meals if you're really hungry.
google avatar

Myisha N.

Yelp
Atmosphere was vet welcoming! It was bright and spacious. Great spot for families, date night or a spot for friends to gather. Lots of waiters. The food was good. Wine was tasty. Can't recall the night I was here but they have half off wine and you are allowed to take the unfinished bottle home. My only issue was the service. My sever was nice. However, she was very slow in checking in on the table. I was a little irritated. I recall asking other waiters for items she should have been able to provide. Overall great experience and I'll go again. Checking in to the table of teen would be nice. Otherwise, a decent spot to try!

Joyce H.

Yelp
Good variety of food, well prepared. I had the butternut squash casserole and really liked it. It was warm comfort food and the flavors of tomato and cheese went well with the squash. Another person in my group had salmon that looked like it was cooked perfectly and she said it tasted good. Service was fair and the restaurant was noisy.
google avatar

Ryan K.

Yelp
Tasty food. I visited True Food Kitchen on a Sunday morning and it was nearly empty. Pop music played over the speakers during our visit. The restaurant has an exposed ceiling, and the seating offerings are a mix of green booths and stools, yellow chairs, and gray chairs. I ordered the smoked Gouda crustless quiche, and I enjoyed every bite. I had a good experience at True Food Kitchen and would recommend them.
google avatar

Yelp
I would give it five stars, but due to our first impression from the hostess bumping it to four. My sister and I went for dinner and the hostess was chatting with someone who was waiting for their to go order. He looked over at us and then went back to his conversation without acknowledging us. We stood there and waited for over five minutes while he continued his conversation. I do wonder how long it would have taken the hostess to finally seat us. After minutes of just standing there, we decided to just go seat ourselves with hopes to be acknowledged. Note that the restaurant was slow and there was no one else waiting to be seated, so there was no need for a long wait time. We were honestly confused and almost left. Once we sat down our server arrived shortly. We noted we seated ourselves as the hostess had not seated us after waiting for a while so he went to grab menus for us. The server was great and made up for the initial impression. The food was also great. We had the guacamole, burrito bowl with chicken, and the vegan flourless ice cream. I'd certainly return, but hope to have better service from the host in the future.

Yelp
All I can say is terrible service, I will never go back. The server was not only inattentive but overly aggressive. I have allergies and could order nothing from here and just while my nieces and mom ate. I possibly could have ordered a salad had the server came back but she never did. She had the audacity to give piss poor customer service and then snatch the receipt and say where's the tip. Ma'am your service and attitude was nasty. The only delight in this experience was the bartender Brandon who kept apologizing for her behavior. His service at the bar in the few minutes we spoke was 5 star and he received your tip. Not only did I tip him the 20% for the drink but he received the 20% for the food. Even though her service was beyond shitty I do understand the importance of tips, but I dare any server snatch a receipt that was still pending my signature and throw it back down and scream where's the tip! Have you lost your mind??? So you watched me sign the receipt and write zero. And the $16 cash tip went directly to Brandon. I'm still in awe that management would allow her a job, not only was she nasty to me her interaction with fellow employees was also nasty.

Yelp
My girlfriend loves this place. They have seasonal food offered. The humus is usually a good go to and very tasty. The ancient grains bowl is awesome too.

Yelp
Always a good experience. Attentive service. Healthy food and a fun ambiance .... They seem to have changed the menu which is nice .. old classics still there with some new dishes!

Yelp
Came here with a party of 7 for Saturday brunch. My in-laws are vegan, so we have to be a bit more conscious of restaurant picks. Thankfully, True Food had food that will satisfy vegans and non-vegans alike! We've been the to location in Reston, VA, but this one is gigantic! Very open and spacious. I ordered edamame guac, avocado toast, and a vanilla spiced latte for myself. Somehow, the guac became an app for the table and I was barely able to get some for myself. It was a HIT. The 10 y/o loved it. The 5 y/o not so much (she doesn't even like Reg guac so that's not a shocker), but she really enjoyed the chips. My avocado toast was comprised of 2 pieces of whole wheat crostini topped with smoked Gouda, sesame seeds, and sunny side up eggs. I didn't really detect the smoked Gouda, so maybe it's not needed? Nonetheless, it tasted very good and I ate the entire dish. The latte had a good flavor. They only have regular lattes or this kind - no other syrups/flavors. My 10 y/o ordered the Strawberry Lemon Pancakes, which comes with Greek yogurt, strawberry preserves, lemon zest and syrup. She wasn't a fan of the greek yogurt (because she only wants whipped cream), but loved the pancakes!! She also ordered a side of sunny side up eggs and chicken sausage. I was surprised that a side of sausage is 1.5 Patties. Nonetheless, she enjoyed it. Husband ordered the lasagna bolognese and the pancakes. He, too, loved the pancakes. Ok so husband is a lasagna snob. It's his favorite Italian pasta dish. While it was gluten free and "healthier" than typical lasagnas, he didn't dislike it. In fact, he practically ate the entire plate. My in-laws ordered the Vegan Double Cheeseburgers and found them to be enjoyable. My brother-in-law ordered the pancakes and a side of chicken sausage. Our server was friendly, not overly attentive but adequate. I'm looking forward to going to the newest location that just opened up in Rio, which is way closer to my house.

Yelp
I really enjoy the food here, especially when I want to feel healthy! I drove 30 minutes out just to have it because I had a craving for it. Today, I ordered the salmon with brussels sprouts and I thought it was delicious. I also ordered the peach lemonade which I've never had that combination before and I thought it was amazingly delicious. My waitress, I think her name was Kayla. She did a really fine job, she wasn't overbearing but she made sure me and my daughter were taken care of. I loved the atmosphere here. It was very fresh and clean. There were people even working on their laptops because the place is so chill. I would definitely come here again.

Yelp
This place is a nice casual eatery but with high quality food and attention to each set of ingredients in a dish. For that reason, four stars is definitely deserved. The menu alone captures my heart because it is specific about the details for which I always end up asking, so kudos for menu transparency! The cookies are gluten free and vegan, which, for most, will be a turn-off, but for me, that's nice! The cookies with ice cream is what made my meal so happy. I found the desserts to be a generous portion, including the squash pie to be extremely generous. The squash pie tasted very much like a version of pumpkin pie with less sugar and less fat - so, take it for what it is, just that, a healthier version! The entrees are plentiful as are the starters, so it is difficult to narrow down... so, maybe bring a friend or family member to help you have more options! Anytime there is cauliflower and Brussel sprout starters, I'm sold! Great choices for healthy bowls too, like Korean Noodles with sweet potato noodles and the Quinoa Teriyaki with avocado - there was definitely some rice in that bowl, too, so don't be surprised by rice joining in the bowl! Overall, I like this place, but, I will say I am quite an eater, and the entree portions were not quite to my large appetite eating pleasure. If you don't have a large appetite like me or don't mind ordering several dishes, you'll be fine. So, if you're super hungry and have a hearty appetite, don't expect 1 dish to fill you up. Just a nice yummy eatery for my tummy. Would go back anytime it's suggested!

Yelp
My wife and have been coming to Bethesda twice a month for the last three years. There are any great restaurants within walking distance from our hotel. True Foods is always a top pick for great food, delicious drinks and service. We love the outside seating, weather permitting. The food is always fresh and cooked to perfection and you cannot make a bad choice! We love the wait staff and Autumn is the absolute best. She knows the menu well and has always made great recommendations. Great food and service -- give True Foods a try, ask for Autumn and tell her Mike and Mary sent you!

Yelp
I started my meal with a hot matcha. Delicious! I tend to gravitate towards vegetarian food as that is what my palate prefers. True Food did not disappoint. The food is fresh with quite a variety of tasty options to choose from. Our waitress was very helpful in selecting our meals. Our outdoor seating was perfect for people watching. The location in Balston offers access to shopping and a really great pleasant environment. I've since discovered the Rio location in Gaithersburg. Great open concept with plenty of parking in the shopping center. This brunch was a mom/daughter outing and we shared great time and delicious food.

Yelp
Three stars feels a bit generous. This is the second location of this restaurant that I've patronized, and both have been disappointing. Both times (Foggy Bottom, DC and Bethesda), the kitchen has been woefully understaffed or simply glacially slow. We ordered simple foods, as we were headed to a play. When we tell our server at 6:05 that we have theatre tickets (7:30 show), I might have expected to get an appetizer (salad) by 630. Or maybe 6:45. At 6:45, we asked our fairly indifferent server to check on our food. At 7, we cancelled our order. At that time, she said that our dishes would be coming out in five minutes. Absurd. We shoved a few bites in our mouth, put everything else in the to-go containers she brought (along with our dinner), and prepared to go. Sadly, the food is good. (The exception is the mac & cheese side, which was nothing special at all!) But I won't go back ever unless I know that I've got 2 hours to enjoy a salad. That's ridiculous. Hire more people, folks! And/or, communicate with patrons which items might be delivered more/less quickly. Offer updates. It was a huge disappointment... again!

Yelp
Must visit location for their edamame dumplings. 1. Edamame Dumplings - to-die for! I'll be getting this every time I come here! I've never had edamame dumplings before, and the broth just makes it absolutely scrumptious. It's a dashi broth with white truffle oil and herbs. It's a cold broth, which I normally am not fond of, but this was one of the best starters I have ever had in the DMV area. A mix of savory with saltiness. What more could I want?! 2. Poke Bowl. Typical poke bowl. Love the tuna. Healthy amount of vegetables and very filling. 3. Kale Aid - healthy refresher. Cucumber and ginger were the more prominent taste. There's also a touch of lemon for the sourness. I would order this again. I actually ended up getting a juicer to make my own kale aid version. Another customer saw the dumplings and came up to me asking what I had ordered because it looked delicious! It's great for vegans. There is public outdoor parking nearby. You can pay via ParkMobile app. They do ticket here if you do not pay.

Yelp
This is the place to come if you have any dietary restrictions or need modifications to your food. The waiter even asked if we needed any changes to our meals before putting them in. They have lots of gluten, free options and vegan options. We tried the squash flatbread and edamame dumplings to start. I really like the squash flatbread, it was probably my favorite thing we ate. It was savory because of the squash and ricotta cheese, but sweet due to the honey. The edamame dumplings were also pretty good in a decent portion. For an entrée we split the Valentine's Day steak, which was my boyfriend's favorite. It was in really good sweet sweet potatoes on the side were called potato mash and hot sauce. We also split the chicken and mozzarella Panini. This was the only thing that was a little disappointing. I probably wouldn't get that again. Overall a good restaurant for a healthier date night

Yelp
So...I've always passed this place and it always looked busy. After seeing it on a TV show it was a must try!Who doesn't want to try something cool and trendy!? My husband and son enjoy the turkey burger,my daughter enjoyed the poke bowl but said it was extremely spicy with the dressing on the side, and I ordered the zucchini pasta casserole very good and filling. The special cocktails are Okay.To be honest DC has so many amazing restaurants this one didn't strike me as amazing or anything unique but the food was good but the service was extremely slow.I think we waited 20 minutes before having our drink order taken. The best part of the meal was the hummus appetizer and the Marguerite Pizza. The waiting was insane for how empty the restaurant was and it was definitely full staff.

Yelp
Hana is my favorite server! I am a regular customer. I love this place. I had the Tuscan Kale salad and the True Blue Burger. both were delicious. I also had the indigo cocktail. The food and service were outstanding. I highly recommend this restaurant!

Yelp
From the warm welcome, beautiful ambiance and delicious food - our experience was amazing. Our server, Hana, went above and beyond. She made us feel like we were pulling up to her kitchen table. The restaurant manager, Chris also made our son feel so special during our visit. It was wonderful. Our family will be visiting again!
