Best Child-Friendly Restaurants in the Oakland, Berkeley, and the East Bay | Eater SF

"For how good and straightforward the burgers are — griddle-pressed and dressed only with garlic mayo, lettuce, and tomato — it’s surprising that not everyone knows this place. Started by two fine-dining sous chefs who reportedly just wanted to make a great burger for the people, TrueBurger has achieved its goal. A concise menu of burgers, fries, a chicken sandwich, and shakes makes ordering easy; kids generally go for a plain Cheesy TrueBurger or a Naked Hot Dog. For the ultimate experience, grownups with a real appetite should dive into the True Deluxe, a cheeseburger topped with a crispy portobello mushroom that’s stuffed with gooey mozzarella cheese. If there’s inexplicably more room, customize a shake from more than a dozen mix-ins (including Twinkies) to round out the meal. Expanded only once in 13 years, the original location is near Lake Merritt, with a second, larger location up the road on Broadway." - Justine Jones

TrueBurger Review - Temescal - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"California loves In-N-Out. But if you’ve lived in Oakland long enough, you know another burger joint commands more respect: TrueBurger. This fast-food style spot has mastered three simple things: burgers, fries, and shakes. You don’t come here for herbed goat cheese or sous-vide egg toppings. You come here for juicy grilled patties with tomato, lettuce, and garlic mayo on slightly-toasted egg buns, for thin fries that are perfectly crispy, and for not-too-thick milkshakes that evoke more joy than the Bay views from Grizzly Peak. There are two TrueBurger locations, but we like the newer, bigger one on Broadway." - Lani Conway

Best Burgers in the East Bay | Eater SF

"Simple, juicy patties with crisp edges are the draw at this Oakland mini-chain, which has already become a local institution since its first location on Grand Avenue opened in 2010. The milkshakes are excellent, and so are the ballpark-style garlic fries." - Dianne de Guzman

Google
The Double-Up was an amazing burger. I ordered it well done with garlic fries and a red stripe beer. I would have gave the atmosphere 5 stars but I had to wipe down my own table. Most of the tables looked like they hadn’t been wiped all day. Besides that…it was great!

Google
Just tried this place for the first time and it was one of the best burgers I've had in years! I ordered the TrueBurger Deluxe with the ground beef patty and crispy portobello mushroom along with a side of garlic fries. More than enough for a hungry stomach and absolutely delicious! Just under $20....to me well worth it. If you're craving for a good hamburger and some hot fresh fries, I recommend TrueBurger!

Ben Slinger

Google
The quintessential burger. A perfect unpretentious burger, the garlic fries are unbeatable and a perfect pickle to boot.

Google
Oh my goodness, I hadn't read the reviews and by chance stumbled upon this place out of pure hunger for a quick burger and fries meal in the area. First off, the garlic fries, yum! Hot and crispy on the outside, steamy soft on the inside, with plenty of fresh garlic. As for the burger, it was juicy and so full of flavor. I loved the toasted bun it was on too. While I ordered the double, a single would have been enough. (This is not In-n-Out which I also enjoy for their price point. This place is more comparable to a Teddy's Bigger Burger in HI). Having now read the reviews, I definitely want to return to try the mushroom burgers. I should also mention, the service here was very good, very conscientious and courteous staff.

Bob Journey

Google
The beef patties here are juicy and delicious with plenty of juice. The buns are also well cooked and savory. Today I ordered cucumber lemonade for the first time and it was delicious with just the right amount of acidity. My favorite is the cheesy trueburger.

Google
Great place. Burgers and fries are absolutely top notch. It’s easy to just slap out burgers and fries, but it’s really hard to nail all the details like they do here.

Teresa At Home

Google
Burger was pretty good, not great. Loved both the regular and garlic fries. The fried chicken sandwich special wasn't real chicken as shown in the review photos from 2023.. this chicken had a weird consistency like a McNugget, so the texture was off and it didn't have much taste at all. Disappointing.

Google
Parking was a bit of a PITA but it was worth it for Trueburger. I wouldn't say it's the absolute best in the bay, but the overall experience was good. Decent selection with tolerable prices.

Yelp
Prepare your taste buds! These burgers are HUGE and greasy! Do not take them out of their wax paper safety shells or you will need A LOT of napkins! These are real deal back yard BBQ style burgers that hit the spot in every way. For Bay Area prices expect to pay $35-40ish for 2 burgers and 2 fries but I feel like they are still worth it even at this price point. Your order will come out quickly, the menu is limited like In and Out/ Chic Fil A so expect your food in 10 minutes or less unless they are super busy! Unless you are on a date you should try the garlic fries! I have eaten here at least 6 times and am yet to have a disappointing burger! PS- no surcharges or junk fees here!
google avatar

Yelp
Pretty damn good burger and fries! I ordered the bacon cheesy TrueBurger. Bacon were thin and crispy, meat patty was smashed style and added extra flavor crispy bits to every bite. I also order a side of garlic fries, they were done well and had a nice garlic sauce. It reminded me of Giants ballpark garlic fries but better! Service was fast and friendly with plenty of tables and chairs for indoor dining, or you could grab your food to go and have it by the lake!
google avatar

Lacee E.

Yelp
Decent burger and fries. The ingredients seem fresh and the flavor was good. The portion sizes are standard and comparable to the price. The strawberry lemonade is great! They use fresh strawberries, so watch out for the seeds. The service is fast and the staff are kind. They do offer take out and delivery. They offer fast delivery, too.

Yelp
It's aight... I was in town and craving for smash burger, did a quick search and true burger was top of the recommendation list. I've tried smashed burger in the past and didn't care for it, but though to give it another try somewhere else. True burger has over 1.7k reviews at at high recommend rate, so wanted to stop by and give it a go. First off, great customer service and easy to order. The brioche bun was soft and fluffy and really pairs well with the burger. The patty, I personally didn't love it, I expected it to be more smashed and crispy with more flavor, the patty lacked seasoning but was juicy. BUT the quality of the meat really did shine through, I'd have to give it a .5 Overall the burger was a 3.5 for me. Got me side of garlic fries and also had to pay extra for ranch dipping on the side. 4 out of 5. Crispy, garlicky yummy. Lastly the strawberry lemonade, it's good, a tad bit overly sweet imo, but refreshing. Intimate setting, the restaurant probably only seats about dozen people. Total of the meal came out to be $20.

Yelp
I haven't been here in a couple years so I don't know if anything has changed but this was my favorite burger spot

Yelp
Came here on a Tuesday early evening and service was pretty quick. I got a mushroom burger and although I wish the cheese inside the patty had more flavor, it was still solid. I don't think it was worth the cost though. I was a huge fan of the garlic aioli on the burger. I also tried some of my friend's cheese fries which had a bit of a kick and strawberry lemonade and both of those were delicious. The only thing I really disliked was that there were tons of flies inside the restaurant around the seating area which made it not super comfortable to sit and eat. Overall, I would maybe return for the fries and lemonade as a to go snack but probably not the burger.
google avatar

Anita T.

Yelp
The food was bomb!! The service was super quick and everything came out hot. Would be a great place to order takeout from but sitting there was nice too. Make sure to get the garlic aioli
google avatar

Yelp
I was shocked to see how empty this place was, as many people have raved about it (started packing up after I ordered). So I had to try these legendary burgers when I finally was in the area. Small seating area but glad we early. I must have bad luck with cashiers because I did not get the same friendly service people were talking about. It kind of makes me not want to make another trek out there. Nonetheless service was straightforward and fast. Basically you can choose how you want your meat cooked (even rare, my personal favorite), and choice of onions/pickles. We ordered the True Deluxe and cheese burger, garlic fries, and pumpkin shake. All were very good. Garlic fries were some of the best fries I've had in a while. The true deluxe is reminiscent of the Shake Shack's shroom burger, but bigger, juicer, and has garlic aioli. I'm glad I got the extra side of garlic aioli.

Yelp
I got a cheesy truburger and it was pretty good. The fluffy brioche buns and the way everything is cooked is delicious. Ingredients are fresh, and the burger isn't too greasy. Looking forward to coming back and trying the portobello burger next
google avatar

Yelp
My son and I both ordered the Bacon Cheesy Trueburger and Garlic Fries and they were delicious! We've been to this location before, but it's been a while and the food is still fantastic. The burger was cooked the perfect medium, the bacon and veggies were the right texture, and the sauce is yummy. The garlic fries were crunchy with lots of garlic. The place is clean and the service excellent! Love it!!!
google avatar

Yelp
I've always passed by True Burger but can't believe I never tried them. What kind of Oakland born native am I? They sure know how to serve up some burgers and fries. Burgers - cooked perfectly to desire wellness, with all the classic ingredients (Mayo, lettuce, tomatoes) and option to add grilled onions for 75 cents. Fries - so greasy yet so delicious! Love it when you can actually taste the garlic. The only thing I'd say is their fried chicken sandwich isn't the best ever (just because nothing compares to world famous hot boys in the bay) but does the job when you don't want beef. Water station/ soda fountain left of the register. Couple tables inside. No outdoor seating. Metered street parking.
google avatar

Peter V.

Yelp
Just went here with my friend. The burgers were incredible but the garlic fries weren't to my taste. The milkshakes were also well done. There is a fair amount of table space, but if you don't want to sit down there is a very nice surrounding area as it is a short walk from Lake Merritt.

Yelp
True Burger be smaccccking! I usually do not eat beef but when I get the urge or have a craving for some beef this place is my go to ! True Burger is a small but tasty burger joint! Everything is made fresh to order. So here is a little run down about this establishment.... 1. It's small on the inside but usually clean. Everything has to be ordered à la cart so expect to pay for everything individually. 2. The customer service is always the same. Pleasant, kind and patient! The team of employees at this location are a blessings to the community. They treat everyone who enters their building with kindness and respect. 3. Don't be afraid to add bacon, it is the perfect addition to their tasty burger (it's just fine without it). 4. The fries are ok, not the best I've ever had but also not the worst. 5. The milkshakes are a hit ! Made with real ice cream so you know it's good!! 6. Lastly, can be a little pricey but ABSOLUTELY worth it! If you in the general area and would like a great burger True Burger is your place.

Yelp
I loved the burger. I was expecting MORE tho. I got the burger, and the cheese was not even melted. The garlic fries were barely coated, I had to ask for more garlic oil. My first experience was a bit underwhelming. What I would do different next time... Ask for my garlic fries to be well dressed, ask for my burger to have more garlic mayo and for my cheese to be melted. I would definitely come again. I love a great burger. I am still in search of a burger that makes me say, "Wow, this is the best I've ever had."

Yelp
WARNING!! Order in person or through the phone, NOT online if you're doing pick up. Usually ordering online cost a bit more due to the website fees, but I feel ripped off because of the price difference. My order for a Cheesy Trueburger came out to be $11.55 before tax and no extra cost additives. I was surprised by the pricing but according to the reviews, it must be worth it. Come to find out while checking the menu in person, in person cost $8.75! I feel so defeated. The fries were only $0.65 more, which is fair and what I expected of online ordering. Staff was incredibly friendly, wishing me a good day while I picked up my food. I'm sure it would've been a pleasant experience to order in person. As for the food, my burger patty was overly salted so I had to readjust my taste buds. It had a good amount of all other ingredients, except more lettuce would be better. I ordered medium rare and indeed received medium rare (pink inside). The flavor profile was nice, savory. The fries were good as well, I love when fries are super garlicky like the restaurant supplied, but it was a bit soggy. Save yourself the money and order through phone or in person

Yelp
Love, love, loooove me some Trueburger! They produce some of the best (if not THE best) burgers in Oakland. I usually go to their location on Broadway since it's close to where I work now, but I was in the area and decided to hit up this original location. It had probably been almost 10 years since I'd eaten at this location before my most recent visit, but nothing has changed. The burgers still be hittin' like always! Trueburger is consistent on all levels. Not only is the food scrumptious, but the customer service is top tier. The staff is hard working and thorough, and this is something that I always appreciate. And about those burgers?! Straight FIYAAAAH, babyyy! The Cheesy True has become my steez. It's everything that your little heart could ever desire on the perfect burger. A thick, juicy, and flavorful beef patty with perfectly melted cheese. Crisp and fresh veggies. A beautiful grilled brioche bun. Just an all around amazing burger for ya. And, let's not forget about their delicious garlic fries and addictive milkshakes. I just feel like if you're already having a burger like this, you gotta go hard or go home. I almost always indulge and get a milkshake and garlic fries when I'm here. You can't say that you've had the "true" experience without it. The garlic fries have just the right amount of garlic without it being overwhelming. The shakes are amazing! I've had a few different flavors over the years, but I always come back to that damn banana milkshake. 'Tis bombtastic! They have a bunch of flavors to choose from, and you can never go wrong with their shakes. The interior space isn't the largest, but it's still a comfy setting for dining if you want to. there's a beautiful of mural of Oakland on the back wall. The windows are large and offer a nice street view of Grand Avenue. And best of all; they keep it spotless inside! I usually order their burgers for to-go nowadays, but it's always nice to have a seat and enjoy my food there every now and then. So glad that this spot is still around and I will forever support them and their amazing burgers. All hail Trueburger!

Yelp
Been going to this TrueBurger consistently for almost 7 years as we live nearby. My sister in law used to live in Oakland and recommended it as one of her favorite spots. The service is always great and the food is made fresh to order. Excellent comfort food and I can always smell their garlic fries when anyone in our building has TrueBurger takeout. It was one of our staples during the pandemic and helped so much as we have two little kids. Their shakes are really good, and their burgers and hot dog are delicious. The fries are addictive. Make sure whoever you are with eats some garlic fries so everyone has garlic breath - lol. Their side of ranch is always yummy w everything. Never seen this place dirty or unsanitary either which gets the mama seal of approval. Thanks!

Yelp
I had never been to Truburgers before, but I had read so many good things about it that I had to give it a try. I went in at around 3:00 on a Saturday. The personnel were friendly and easy going, and it was very easy to place my to-go order. I asked for a standard cheeseburger with everything. As I was the only one there, my order was ready in less than 10 minutes. All the ingredients appeared fresh. However, the hamburger was way too salty! I could barely eat it, and I tolerate Costco rotisserie chicken! To say I was disappointed would be an understatement. I don't know if it was just a one-off and the cook accidentally over-salted it, but if this is the way their hamburger is normally prepared, I will not be ordering it again. Bummer.
google avatar

Scott H.

Yelp
Quite pleased with my cheeseburger and fries. The cheeseburger was simple but tasted good. Bun was fresh. I ordered it without any sauce, and it came out exactly right. I had my fries cooked extra crispy, and they too exceeded expectations. The fries were cooked well done without being double dipped into the oil. And they were very flavorful and not greasy. This might have been a five-star review had the dining area been cleaner. None of the tables were especially clean. Service was fast and friendly. Plenty of tables for dining in. The ambiance is a bit divey.

Yelp
I tried True Burger for the 2nd time. The first time was years ago; maybe around 6 or 7. This time I went to the one on Broadway. Clean restaurant and nice staff. I got the mushroom true cheese burger which is a burger with cheese topped with a crispy whole mushroom that has Swiss stuffed inside. It was ok. Very filling but dry. I only like ketchup and mustard on my burgers so maybe that's my fault. The fries are nasty. They're like those double fried carnival fries. I despise any restaurant that sells those. lol. I will not go again but I see why people like the food.
google avatar

Yelp
At first I was skeptical about it but they actually have some great burgers and the garlic fries are pretty tasty great customer service and good environment of people
google avatar

Vivian P.

Yelp
My favorite burger spot in Oakland! Their mushroom burger is to die for. Crispy portabella with cheese oozing out! I recommend getting with pickles and raw onions. Their garlic fries are also great (just beware of garlic breath!). I can't recommend this spot enough! The workers are all super nice and are generous when asking for additional pickles. The place itself is small with limited seating but it's a quick meal. Pro tip: make your own sauce with the ketchup, mustard, and mayo they have out. It works great in the mushroom burger!
google avatar

Sydney J.

Yelp
I've been here twice and I got the mushroom burger which is their veggie option, and I opted to add grilled onions and pickles. They're usually pretty quick and will make the order within 5 minutes maximum. While it is cheaper to get a burger from some of the local chain fast food restaurants, I actually have found their mushroom burger is really good. I don't normally like portobello since it tends to be full of liquid and squishy in texture, but TrueBurger does a great job of frying the mushroom and adding a crispy breaded exterior, plus they probably are doing something to dehydrate it. They're definitely some of the best and most memorable vegetarian burgers I've had in my lifetime so far and I highly recommend their mushroom burger if you are vegetarian.
google avatar

Czarina D.

Yelp
Ordered a Fried Chicken Sandwich and Garlic Fries from here. Do yourself a favor and order a burger (not a chicken sandwich) haha The chicken sandwich was alright! It had a good crisp and was juicy. The sandwich tasted fresh, but it just wasn't as flavorful as a burger. I tried a bite of my friend's burger and it was much tastier (instant regrettttttt)! This is the last time I listen to my fiancés fried chicken cravings haha The Garlic Fries were too die for! So addictive! I couldn't stop eating them! But be forewarned: your breath WILL stink. But it's all worth it! Overall, I'd totally come back and order Garlic Fries again...but with a burger this time!
google avatar

Mianni B.

Yelp
Not all it's cracked up to be food was edible but average. Wouldn't be my first pick for a burger.
google avatar

Adrielle H.

Yelp
The mushroom burger is amazing!! Fried and filled with gooey cheese. Makes being a vegetarian easier when I'm craving a burger.
google avatar

Mikaela S.

Yelp
A very delicious and well-priced cheeseburger to satisfy any burger cravings! They have a few options to had on mushrooms or other sauces to the burger and also have pretty great garlic fries. Their service is quick and there's a handful or tables and stools for to eat in as well.
google avatar

Daniella P.

Yelp
Their burgers and fries are amazing! I'm obsessed! I got the double burger with raw onion and garlic fries. One of the best burgers in town. Customer service was really good too! The guy at the register was very helpful. I definitely recommend this place. I would post a picture but it was gone before I could blink an eye.

Yelp
Seriously, a stellar burger. I ordered online for the ease of not having to wait to just pick it up. Their ordering system on the website was easy to use. I love how you can choose how done you can have your burger - in my case medium rare. Granted, it didn't really come out that way. It was closer to a medium, but at least it wasn't overcooked. I hate it when a medium burger comes out medium well. Second, I love how you can accessorize your burger with bacons, mushrooms, extra sauce, no sauce, lite sauce, extra veggies, etc. Third, the prices are amazing. I created an $8.75 burger that would normally cost $12 elsewhere. $0.75 to go from a hamburger to a cheeseburger is unheard of! Adding cheese is normally at least a buck! I know what some of you are thinking - "But it's only $0.25!" That's still a 33% increase... or a 25% savings... whatever it is, it's basically a good deal at TrueBurger. So do yourself a favor if you're craving a juicy burger. Come here. And don't forget to ask for napkins. (They didn't include any in my order.)
google avatar

Prasiddha H.

Yelp
Had a chance to try TrueBurger after having seen this place for a while. Went with the boy on a raining afternoon and thankfully there was parking in the front we were able to pull into. We ended up ordering the: *bacon cheese TrueBurger - this was the cheeseburger with bacon and this was delicious, the burger is definitely bigger in size than shake shack and every bite was yummy! I still think 10 bucks for a burger like this is a bit much though *garlic fries - this was yummy and the garlicky spread on top was yummy, this went really well with the burger Overall the food was yummy, and if in the area I would go back. It's proximity to lake Merritt makes it a nice quick lunch spot.
google avatar

Kyle M.

Yelp
While I love their burgers and garlic fries, my review today is just for their vanilla milkshake. I was craving one bad today and couldn't resist lol. First and foremost, the ingredients' quality is crucial to making a delicious milkshake. A good milkshake starts with high-quality ice cream and fresh milk, which Tru Burger nails. It's rich, easy to drink with a straw (I hate when you have to spoon it like ice cream lol), and had a complex flavor. Very good! Pop in here for a timeless dessert classic.

Yelp
Your average burger joint. Burgers, fries, shakes. I personally didn't find much that stood out about the place. Although I was excited to try a new burger spot that I haven't already tried. Burger.. was way too seasoned. I know.. I'm crazy. People usually complain about things being under seasoned... I'm one! But no, this patty was salted galore. I couldn't even finish or enjoy eating. I ate maybe a quarter of it, and had to put it down. I also wish they used another cheese, maybe Colby jack or pepper jack & not American singles cheese. I think if it wasn't over seasoned I would've enjoyed it at least. The patty's are nice and thick/juicy. I made sure they cooked mine well done cause I noticed on the menu it said they make them medium well.. usually all places do. So I never forget to say WELL DONE lol. Fries.. great! Crunchy, right amount of salt and garlic. I didn't get to eat them crunchy cause we took ours to go.. but they were still very good! We didn't opt for drinks so I couldn't tell you how the shakes are. They do carry 3 beers.. forgot the name of 2, we ordered the Drakes 1500 though while we waited for food to be done. I'd probably be back if I was in the area and hungry, but I wouldn't make my way out here just to have this. I'm sure tonight someone was just a lil heavy handed with the seasonings. I recommend to burger and shake lovers.
google avatar

Chad M.

Yelp
Think patty burger. Well seasoned and cooked to medium. Came out juicy and flavorful. Shouldn't have done a double. Solid burger. I prefer Lovely's.

Yelp
I recently had the pleasure of indulging in True Burger's double burger, accompanied by a side of garlic fries. I must say, I was thoroughly impressed by the overall taste and quality of the meal. The double burger was cooked to perfection, with a juicy and flavorful patty sandwiched between two soft and slightly toasted buns. The cheese was melted just right, adding an extra layer of richness to the already delicious burger. The toppings, including fresh lettuce, tomato, and onions, added a nice balance of texture and flavor. But what really stood out to me were the garlic fries. True Burger's garlic fries were absolutely delicious, with just the right amount of seasoning and crispy texture. The garlic flavor was not overpowering, but rather a perfect complement to the fries. The presentation of the meal was also impressive, with the burger and fries arranged neatly on a tray, making for a visually appealing and appetizing experience. Overall, I highly recommend True Burger's double burger and garlic fries to anyone in search of a satisfying and delicious meal. The quality of the ingredients and the attention to detail in preparation make this meal a must-try for any burger and fries lover. Rating Food: 4.5 Ambiance: 4 Price: 4. Not too bad for the quality of the food. Service: 4 Overall: 4.5 Definitely coming back.

Yelp
My coworkers had raved about this place, so naturally it was on my list of places to grab lunch nearby work. We had a team lunch and ordered True Deluxe burgers for everyone. I was shocked by how large the burger was - burger patty with a breaded and stuffed portobello mushroom on top. I've seen this on Shake Shack's menu before, but never tried it! I loved how fresh everything tasted, and the cheese oozed right out of the mushroom. I highly recommend this place if you're ever in the mood for a good burger.
google avatar

Minh N.

Yelp
Can't believe I've never tried this place despite driving by this small burger shop almost everyday . Their Deluxe Burger ( Beef and Mushroom) is the best burger I've had in the Bay. Don't let the $12.5 price scares you, because the burger is huge , twice as big as in-n-out one . The patty is juicy and thick , the fried mushroom is delicious. Every bite is so flavorful. There are plenty of street parking but I would recommend order ahead because they would be busy at lunch.
google avatar

Tony D.

Yelp
One of my favorite burgers in the area. So tasty and good fries. Not good for delivery or even take away. A bit greasy for that.
google avatar

Lea S.

Yelp
TrueBurger is one of my husband and I's go to spots for burgers. It is extremely solid and consistent every time. The ambiance is very casual with counter service and a few tables inside, so we usually get it to go and either eat by the lake which is a short walk or just take it home to eat. The burgers are delicious as are their fries. They even have a tasty veggie option in the Mushroom Burger! My go to order is the bacony cheesy burger and garlic fries (Shoestring fries with a healthy portion of garlic so I wouldn't recommend them for a first date). My husband usually has a healthy appetite but he even feels the "double up" or double patty is a LOT of meat, and maybe too much meat for the bun, so just be warned these are not small patties like you might be used to elsewhere!
google avatar

Blake G.

Yelp
I have an unhealthy addiction to TruBurger. It's my favorite spot for a juicy burger and crispy fries. My go to is the double cheese burger (I'll usually add another patty and make it a triple), fries, and milk shake. The garlic aioli they put on the burgers is what has me hooked. Everything pairs so well together and the flavors mend so nicely. The double burger is on the more expensive side at $15 ($18 for the triple) but it's worth it. My gf doesn't care for the brioche buns and I think that it's too much bread for just a single patty, so double down
google avatar

Brianna R.

Yelp
One of the best burger spots in Oakland where you can just get a regular greasy burger, without worrying about whether or not it's clean in the kitchen. I haven't tried the other location but this one is consistently good. My favorite menu items are the cheeseburger or the mushroom burger when I don't feel like eating meat. Fries here are literally perfect, regular and garlic. If your appetite is huge, get a shake, too. They're solid. Prices have gone up, but that's to be expected in a post rona world, plus inflation. It's a pretty small spot, but a lot of orders are to-go so you can usually find a spot inside to enjoy your food while it's still hot. Street parking only.

I have to say TrueBurger is pretty awesome. The burgers are a mix of a gourmet burger and a greasy dive burger. The garlic fries are delicious also.I have never tried the shakes but they look really good. The Grand location is way better than the Broadway location in every way though so make sure you go to this one. The service is on point at this one. I always get my food to go and the seating area is pretty empty although I do go during off times. Now that I'm thinking an]bout it I should eat there next time.

Yelp
Found this gem of burger spot before a concert, and SO glad we did. We live in San Jose and have since driven to Oakland more than once JUST for True Burgerssss ‍ ( don't skip out on the pickle )

Yelp
I hit up this place right before 12 Noon on a Thursday. Even though I was fortunate enough to avoid the lunch rush hour, TB encountered a server issue (not their fault, I think). By 12, this small joint was filled with groups of women and construction workers--all standing around waiting for their orders. Due to the server issue, I was asked to place my order again--but online. Several minutes passed and the server issue was resolved. Thank goodness, because I thought I'd wait for years since I was already frustrated trying to order off a new platform. Luckily, I changed my original order (Bacon Cheesy True Burger) to a medium rare True Deluxe. My entire meal included the Chocolate n Coffee Shake, Chili Fries and Coleslaw! The True Deluxe included a tender portobello mushroom, fried to perfection. In addition, the burger was loaded with garlic mayo, fresh tomatoes and lettuce. The burger was served in a non-stick parchment liner. This liner was so necessary because the burger was too huge (and messy) to handle! The made-to-order patty was medium rare, as requested. The chili fries included shoestring fries and the chili had beans. The coleslaw was fresh and crisp (not too creamy) and I knew I just had to try it with my fries! The chocolate coffee shake was creamy and I didn't realize Nescafé was used in the recipe, until I saw the sous chef blending up milk with spoonfuls of it. The fries, slaw and shake were basic but I'd still give the above mentioned items a solid 4 stars. I think their burger is an outstanding 5-stars! This particular location is great for the working staff around the Oakland/Grand Ave. area because of the stores convenient location and it's efficiency. I'd highly recommend this spot to those looking for tender and massive, yet reasonably-priced burgers.

Yelp
Love you guys! But could you please update some of your photos from your website to better depict of the end product we'll be receiving as consumers? While it doesn't matter all that much but it does when someone hates brioche buns. A heads up or updated pic on your website would have been nice, thank you. Still adore you guys but please update it. Tbh, no one likes brioche grilled cheese that's thick like that. Really stoked, only to be slightly disappointed. Didn't eat it because the dislike for brioche is real.

Yelp
Loved the food!! The double cheeseburger is definitely the best. Juicy patties that are seasoned perfectly and cooked to perfection. Lots of toppings to choose from, and customizing the burger is not an issue. Staff is super friendly and helpful. This will be my go to burger joint when in downtown Oakland. They do not have parking, so try your luck on the street.

Yelp
Probably my favorite burger in the Bay. Today I had a True Deluxe- a cheeseburger with a portabello mushroom stuffed with mozzarella cheese. It comes with tomato and lettuce. I would get this once a week if my doctor allowed me but until I get the okay, I'll stick to it as a delicious treat. The fries are spot on and I've heard but have not experienced the milkshake. I saw that they have a coffee one that I will have to try one of these days. You have Gregory's desserts right behind the place where you can enjoy another slice of heaven and Farley's down the street which I think is the true trifecta.

Yelp
This place really stands for its name! Got the mushroom deluxe burger and my goodness did it taste DELICIOUS. If you're looking for a REAL BURGER, this place is it. Every bite was a true burger bite! Check this place out! No ragrets!

Yelp
Ordered for delivery. They have the order tight on the ticket, but made the burger wrong. They put so much mayo (which I didn't want) on the burger I couldn't even take the bread off and eat the remainder of the burger. $12 wasted.
