TrueBurger - Review - Temescal - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"California loves In-N-Out. But if you’ve lived in Oakland long enough, you know another burger joint commands more respect: TrueBurger. This fast-food style spot has mastered three simple things: burgers, fries, and shakes. You don’t come here for herbed goat cheese or sous-vide egg toppings. You come here for juicy grilled patties with tomato, lettuce, and garlic mayo on slightly-toasted egg buns, for thin fries that are perfectly crispy, and for not-too-thick milkshakes that evoke more joy than the Bay views from Grizzly Peak. There are two TrueBurger locations, but we like the newer, bigger one on Broadway." - Lani Conway

16 Juicy Burgers in the East Bay

"Simple, juicy patties with crisp edges are the draw at this Oakland mini-chain, which has already become a local institution since its first location on Grand Avenue opened in 2010. The milkshakes are excellent, and so are the ballpark-style garlic fries." - Dianne de Guzman, Luke Tsai

The 23 Best Restaurants Near Lake Merritt - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"This fast-food-style spot has mastered the art of three things: burgers, fries, and shakes. We’ll start with the burger—juicy grilled patties with tomato, lettuce, and garlic mayo on slightly-toasted egg buns. The fries are thin and perfectly crispy. And the not-too-thick milkshakes evoke more joy than the Bay views from nearby Grizzly Peak. There are two TrueBurger locations, but the original one on Grand Ave. is only a few blocks from the lake." - Julia Chen 1, Lani Conway

Google
Yep, it’s a burger joint. A good one. A consistent one. Delicious burgers, fries and milk shakes. One vegetarian option (mushroom) and fried chicken on the menu too. We had garlic fries, they also had regular and onion rings too.

Google
Ordered double up- double beef Patty and double cheese. This was a hefty burger. I don't know if this is a true smash burger as the patties are pretty thick. Meat is quality, well seasoned and really the highlight. Toppings all fresh. Ordered to go, walked it home and it held up really well. Not soggy at all. Also got the garlic fries. Crisp and garlicky. Perfect! The shop seems like a cool place to sit and eat as well. For having a virtually empty restaurant it took a while to get my burger. Seemed like they were filling a lot of pick up orders.

Google
True Burger delivers! The ingredients were incredibly fresh, the burger was super juicy, and the fries were absolutely perfect. You can really taste the quality—definitely coming back!

Google
Totally respectable burger experience, excellent french fries and onion rings, my only critique would be that the hamburger construction could be a little tighter, and not so loose. Meet is first quality which is really the feature here, and I like the retro worn down facade on the front. I'll come back here and try again. Throwing bread and meat together does not make a hamburger. Hamburger should be an orchestrated event where everything lays down equally, tightly wrapped in a paper wrapper so that it holds together while you eat it. That said it was a really good tasting burger, on the staff was really nice.

Google
Went on lunch break, no wait to order. Food came out in about 7 mins. I ordered the double up and added a fried portabella mushroom. SMACKIN!! Major smack attack! Burger was cheesy and had that smash burger crust on it and the mushroom added a nice crunch. Fries were crispy but the burger outshine the fries. I'm definitely coming back.

Google
The food is super good. The burgers are so juicy and delicious, it’s like they have crack in them, those onion rings are like no others. The onion rings are big and crispy and taste super good with the the ranch. The food is ALWAYS made to order so it takes some time to be made but definitely worth it.

Google
I visited on 05/16/19 and ordered the double cheeseburger & garlic fries. Both were delicious. Onions, pickles, relish, & other condiments are off to the side. Burger, fries, & drink came out to $20, so it's definitely a once a while treat. The seating area isn't too big. Luckily, it wasn't crowded during my visit.

Google
Tried Double Up and Garlic Fries. Burgers were juicy but, of course, grease and flavorful but a tad salty. Might've been better with a little acidic and/or spicy sauce to cut through the grease. Patties were relatively generous size and were tender and well-cooked. Garlic fries were plenty garlicky without being salty but could've been a little more crispy for a better textual sensation. Overall, good burgers and fries but I've had much better burgers elsewhere.

Yelp
Where can you get a great burger for less than $10?...... TRUEBURGER!!! Geez, everything is so expensive these days and the Bay Area has the highest prices on the west coast. For that reason alone, the Cheesy TrueBurger for $9.25 is a 5 star experience. It's a nice modern venue with good service and you can get fries for $4 and a beer for $5 to wash it all down. Yeah, the burger is really good too. LOL Check it out!

Yelp
The burgers are some of the best, absolutely love the burgers at this place. I actually go out of my way and a good distance just to come here. So that's why it got three stars as a review for me. Not sure who manages this place now but it's gone down hill as a restaurant for its staff and now for the hours it's said it's open and it is not. This was the third time I came out of my way to get here only to find out they closed early. Of your going to list your hours you need to stick to them. I get it sometimes things happen. But this was all in the same two weeks??? Just a huge waste of my time and gas.

Yelp
Mushroom burger is my favorite in the bay and the Garlic Fries are also excellent. Staff are always friendly

Yelp
Oh the Deluxe TrueBurger. You have my heart. The fried mushroom and the gooey cheese with the high-quality meat patty. Oh so good. This is my first review but I have been coming to TrueBurger for years with friends and family, both locations. The Broadway location is slightly more accessible, easier to find parking. Service is incredibly fast and friendly. We couldn't help but get the garlic fries and a malted Oreo milkshake on the side. The milkshake with the burger certainly hits the spot, soo delicious and refreshing. Not all artificial and overly sweet like In-N-Out. Broadway indoor space is also much more spacious and open. Husband's review: 5/5!

Yelp
I'm not sure why people conplaining! This burger shop is quick and efficient! And the food is amazing! I liked a lot their double burger it was good quality meat and the bread so fluffy giving you a juicy lucy burger that will make your hands wet and dirty this is a winner for me! I ordered 3x3 and it was so filling and satisfying to eat! I do recommend this place!

Yelp
Great burgers- but this locations service is awful compared to their main downtown location. It was also a ghost town inside- maybe if they had tvs or some sort of community events it wouldn't be such a sleeper
google avatar

Alex S.

Yelp
Quick ordering and fast casual style experience. The burger patties were well seasoned and just the right amount of juicy with medium rare.

Yelp
I devoured my Bacon Cheesy TrueBurger if that tells you anything. The burgers, fries, onion rings, and milkshakes that we had here were excellent and the service we received was great. If you're craving a burger in Temescal / North Oakland, I recommend this place. We visited on a Saturday around 11:15am. The restaurant wasn't busy at the time of our visit, which worked out for us because we had kids in tow and could spread out and relax a little. There's a decent amount of seating inside. No outdoor seating that I saw. The setup and atmosphere is that of a fast food restaurant, like In-N-Out, but TrueBurger is local to Oakland. The kitchen is open so you can see them make everything. There are only two TrueBurger locations at the time of writing this review: (1) The original location which opened on Grand Ave in Downtown Oakland in January 2010. https://www.yelp.com/biz/trueburger-oakland (2). This second location which opened in Temescal, Oakland in January 2015. This location is significantly bigger than the first location downtown. My niece is a fan of this place and asked us multiple times, "Can we go to TrueBurger?" She got her wish. Her 10-year-old taste buds agree with mine. Everything was delicious (except for maybe the vegetarian Mushroom Burger, but that's not something I'd normally order; my sister got it). The menu here is simple. TrueBurger serves 5-ounce beef burgers, cooked medium, with garlic mayo, lettuce, and tomato by default. Cheese, bacon, onions, pickles, and a portobello mushroom patty are options (onions and pickles at no extra cost). TrueBurger's Mushroom Burger reminded me of Shake Shack's 'Shroom Burger. Both mushroom burgers are made with portobello mushrooms and stuffed with cheese. During our visit, the burgers ranged in price from $8.00 for a plain burger without cheese to $11.00 for either a Double-Up (double beef and double cheese) or a True Deluxe (burger with cheese + a mushroom burger patty on top; again, similar to a Shake Shack item -- the Shack Stack, which I've had on multiple occasions). TrueBurger also serves hot dogs, the aforementioned fries and shakes, onion rings, ice cream, root beer floats, strawberry lemonade, fountain drinks (standard self-serve machine), and bottled and canned beer. I had a Bacon Cheesy TrueBurger ($10.50) with garlic mayo, lettuce, tomato, onions, and pickles. It was fantastic. It tasted fresh, and it was filling and satisfying. TrueBurger serves their burgers in paper wrappers like In-N-Out, Shake Shack, etc. Their burgers are ground daily. The ingredients were good quality, including the bacon which was scrumptious. We got a couple orders of fries for the table, both regular French Fries ($3.75) and Garlic Fries ($4.25), plus Onion Rings ($6.00). The onion rings came with a side of ranch. We also asked for a side of garlic mayo ($0.95), the same garlic mayo they put on the burgers, to dip our fries and onion rings into. Along with ranch and garlic mayo, TrueBurger also offers chipotle and barbecue sauces. The fries were the slimmer, smooth-cut, crispy variety, kind of like the fries served at McDonald's, Burger King, and Wendy's. However, these were better. I saw the staff cutting potatoes by hand. I highly recommend the Garlic Fries. They were incredibly tasty and addictive. The Onion Rings were terrific too. What I liked about them was they weren't too greasy, but were still nice and big with wonderfully appetizing texture. We got Chocolate Milkshakes for dessert and they were outstanding. They really hit the spot. They were thick, smooth, creamy, and gratifying. We watched as one of the employees handspun the shakes. If you've made it this far into my review, then you've probably realized by this point that there is an extra level of personal attention to the food here. I think that helps set TrueBurger apart from the competition. It's a difference in quality that you can taste. Even my Dr. Pepper from the soda fountain tasted good (and you know those machines/drinks aren't all created/prepared equally). The staff was polite, efficient, and well-trained. No wonder why my niece likes this place so much.

Yelp
OMG, I owe this place a review. Awhile ago, I had Covid-19 and was stuck at home under doctor's orders. I had lost about 6-7 pounds in a week, and I started having weird food cravings. I had this craving for a cheeseburger and fries. So I flipped thru my delivery apps, and ordered a Double-Up Cheeseburger and Fries. This location is not as fast as the place on Grand. But I got my food, and the order was right. The cheeseburger was cooked medium, as i like it. The burger was wrapped up, but appeared smashed anyway. Not a big deal. The meat patties had that caramelized crust. It was a delicious burger and it satisfied my appetite. If I had to rank the Top burger places, TrueBurger would be in the Top 5 in the Eastbay.
google avatar

Austin W.

Yelp
This is my first time visiting this TrueBurger location and I'm disappointed it's not as good as the other location. I ordered a TrueBurger and thought it was a decent burger. The bun needs to be toasted a tad longer. The patty could use a tiny bit more salt as well. The tomatoes and lettuce were crisp and didn't make the rest of the burger soggy which is a plus. Definitely ask for raw onions and pickles with your burger: so much better with these extra additions. The garlic fries are incredibly fragrant, but that's about the only positive quality about them. There's not enough garlic flavor, not enough salt, and the fries were completely soggy when I picked up my Uber Eats order 5 minutes after I got a text notification that my order was ready.

Yelp
This TrueBurger location I believe, is on par with the original location. It isn't as busy and parking is easier as well. So in some ways this location is better. The burger gets a solid A grade from me. The fries, C- grade. The onion rings get a B grade. Overall grade is a B+. There is plenty of dining area. All the staff were friendly. The bill came to exactly $20 per person. TrueBurger is always a solid spot for a quick bite.

Yelp
We had the chicken sandwich and the two burgers and I enjoyed them both. Fries were nice and crispy but I think the burger lacked flavor. I actually personally liked the chicken sandwich a bit better but even that lacked flavor. The breading was light though which I enjoyed but the size of the meat (5oz) alone really is what gets me. You get what you pay for and that garlic mayo really brings it all together. Customer service was great solid experience all around. Classic cheeseburgers at a good price

Yelp
You can order online for takeout, wait in line to order for dine in or takeout. They call your number or check your order number before they give you your food. I usually order cheesy trueburger and my partner orders true deluxe (beef patty and crispy portobello mushroom) burger. We love their garlic fries and shakes. For the shake, you order a base flavor: chocolate or vanilla and if you want, then you can add a mix in of your choice. I like how they have many options for mix in. Parking can be difficult as it is only street parking. They have two locations (this one and another closer to Lake Merritt). Highly recommend this place if you are craving a burger.

Yelp
The burger was real good. The fried chicken sandwich was tasty. The garlic fries were bomb! The menu said the meat had no antibiotics. Service was fast for take out. The milkshake was pretty bomb.

Yelp
Get the Double-double, cooked medium, served on their own custom delicious Kaiser roll hamburger buns - the ground beef is perfectly seasoned - get the add-on grilled onions and bacon, too. The bacon could have been a little more crispy - like the fries! Fresh, hot & salty - way better than Barney's or the Habit!

Yelp
True Burger is a burger institution in Oakland, and they have two locations that are conveniently located pretty close to home. They serve amazing burgers, usually cooked at a perfect medium with some pink in your patty. Their patties have a solid crust that is packed with great beef flavor, and the cheese and bacon just take it over the top. When my wife craves a good burger, I go here to make her happy. It's nearby, and with covid still in play she turns to me to be her food delivery courier. They have delicious fries with really solid homemade ranch and garlic mayo as dips (for sale). Their garlic fries are tasty and worth the strong post meal breath. For an amazing veggie option, they have a mozzarella stuffed portobello mushroom that is breaded and fried. This sandwich is offered in the same delicious spongey bread and is honestly just as good as the burgers. They usually have a shake special of the day. Come here when you crave a solid burger, and leave happy! Their location near the Lake on Grand Ave. is cool and cozy, and gives you a chance to walk off some calories. The only reason for the 4 stars is some inconsistencies with overcooked patties at times or shakes that get a little too milky within minutes. That is being a little picky, believe me you'll love the food!

Yelp
They always provide BURNT fries ,, always as they dont care Why cant they be more professional and care about what they serve

Yelp
Is TrueBurger the best in Oakland? It may be. For some reason I find myself at this location at odd times and sometimes between meals and it's close to empty. Rest assured, once you order is when your food starts to be made. TrueBurger deluxe is the order here with the crispy mushroom stuffed cheese "patty" on top of the patty. The patty always has a great crust, veggies are fresh, garlic mayo gives that extra punch of flavor, and extra free pickles are the perfect accompaniment. Back in the day they were self serve (may be result of pandemic) but now you have to ask but they give them out liberally. Highly recommend getting the extra calories and the milkshake special.

Yelp
A solid moist and flavorful cheese burger. I was pleasantly surprised. We came on a Sunday. Most of the customers seem to be taking out. We sat on the side tables on our own with our dog outside. There was a canopy providing shade which was much needed on a hot day.. we had a small side of the garlic fries. Nice strong garlic flavor but could have been a little crispier. The Caesar side brought some lightness and greens to the meal.
google avatar

Yelp
One of the best burgers I've had in the Bay. Juicy tender meat. A lot of places make their meat dry but this place does it good. The cheese and everything else blends well. The fries and shake also good. I want to go back and try other burgers there. I been here two times now. Super good.
google avatar

Jennifer M.

Yelp
It's been a couple months that I have been by for a burger. The staff was to busy to chit chatting and laughing and messing around that they messed up our order. We asked for onion rings and got garlic fries. I asked for Mayo lettuce and tomatoes and got a dry burger. Then we went to get our drink ls no ice. See photo for how that area looked. Super disappointed. May not got back.
google avatar

Nathan H.

Yelp
BEST burger in the world. My favorite. Amazing flavor and texture. Meat has a unique flavor. Tastes super good. Awesome seasoning. Not dry at all. Great meat patty. The garlic mayo sauce is super good. Not too strong. Just perfect flavor profile. The buns were really good. I think they order them. I saw prepackaged buns in the restaurant. Love the fried mushroom. However, the batter is the best part and there seems to be too much mushroom. Still enjoy it though. Depends on my mood with mushroom. The burger stays in shape. The True Deluxe is big but it holds together. Awesome. Overall, just perfect. Flavor, texture, presentation, and vibe. So good.

Yelp
Disappointing. I've been an on-again off-again customer for years and decided to pop in for a quick lunch. Upon entering, I noticed that it was not as organized and well put together as it had been in the past. I saw messy tables waiting to be cleaned. The soda machine was missing the grill where you put your cup, the cabinet under the machine was missing a door. Finally, the confusing floor plan and raised platforms presented a major tripping hazard. Even my 16 year old son commented on that. The staff appeared to be disinterested in my business as I approached the counter. I'm not expecting much out of a hamburger place but they didn't even greet me. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger and fries. The wait was short but later, upon closer examination of my half eaten burger, I noticed that it was missing the bacon. I took my receipt back to the counter and informed them of this discovery. They offered me the bacon on the side but what they should have done was make the burger all over again. I watched them take partially cooked bacon, dunk it into the french fry oil (not vegan/vegetarian friendly) and place it onto a paper plate. The result was soggy greasy, not crispy bacon, which only managed to make my already greasy burger even greasier. At least the fries were good. They should also toast the buns... True Burger needs to step up their game. There are tons of private burger restaurants in Oakland but I was expecting something a bit more top-notch and true to the name "True Burger".

Amy O.

Yelp
The staff is rude and the food is just ok. Plenty of better places around here to get a burger, that actually has variety.
google avatar

Kelsey C.

Yelp
This is where you go to get an American burger. Big beef patty on the Trueburger, topped with galic mayo, lettuce, and tomato. It's pretty good, though the patty is a little drier than I'd like. The True Deluxe, is the same thing but with a fried portobello. That mushroom is just perfect, but I think it'd be better by itself as it's a bit too much together. Both the mushroom and the patty could use a bit more salt. Great Fries - fresh out of the fryer and amazingly crispy. Have fun with the milkshakes - they have so many great toppings! I got chocolate with caramel drizzled in, no complaints. Likable place overall. Pop in if you're in the area and a casual burger is what you're craving. .
google avatar

Juicke C.

Yelp
I had craving for a nice juicy burger. I have visited restaurants in this neighborhood a few times and have been curious about this place. So here's my opportunity. Parking in this area can be challenging. Looking in, this place looked vacated but further examination, there were a few people inside. This is on a Tuesday afternoon. Plenty of seating inside and out. I ordered a Trueburger with everything and no cheese and a chocolate shake. It took little time for the burger and shake. The burger was juicy and a bit greasy. The shake brought back memories of the past and wanting more. The burger price not justified but decent. Similarly, the chocolate shake is like the burger, good but over priced. Perhaps, I live in the past and the prices are appropriate for the market. Nonetheless, the food is good and worthwhile for a visit.

Yelp
Great weekend spot to grab a quick and yummy burger! Stopped by mid-afternoon after a hike and was able to walk up to the counter and order right away. I got the cheesy trueburger with onions and a side of french fries with garlic mayonnaise. The burger was well proportioned with the meat to cheese to bun ratio. Their fries were hot and crisp, and the meal was ready within 5 minutes of ordering and there was plenty of outdoor seating available. Would've been a five-star review, but they ask you how you would like your burger cooked, and then give you it well done (consistent across our groups 4 burgers- 2 of which were ordered medium, and 2 medium rare )

Stephen K.

Yelp
Delicious burger, very good price ($12) for a 10 oz burger with a lot of toppings and good quality. Garlic fries also perfectly cooked. Nice service and also recommend a milkshake. Highly recommend this place, nice open area for seating
google avatar

Yelp
Here's what you need to know Bacon Cheesy Trueburger: Really good! Good quality meat, bun, garlic mayo, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes. Next time: Ask for onions and pickles, add mustard Try the double up 9.50 with grilled onions .50 They have hot dog on a bun 4.75

Yelp
Went here for dinner for 2. We ordered it to go. The person who took our order was knowledgeable and attentive. We walked around the long block they are on as we waited for our meals. If you want a real fresh burger look no further than True Burger. Everything about their burgers are good from the moment you bit into it. Their fries and shakes are great too. You can't go wrong with a true burger.
google avatar

Paulina L.

Yelp
Because this place is called trueburger i'm going to give it a TBH like a middle schooler on snapchat. TBH ur cool TBH we don't see each other often but when we do I eat the delicious crispy fries you hide in the back TBH yassss

Yelp
TrueBurger is a great burger option when I have a crave...I've been to the Grand Ave location but first time at this one which is more spacious, plenty of seating, with a short line during lunch and early evening. Ordered the TrueBurger Deluxe with cheese and regular fries and my friend ordered the garlic fries...I loved that the burger was the perfect thickness so it had that nice, char and crispy edges with it still being juicy...delicious! unfortunately, this visit our burger was unevenly salted...meaning 1st bite....mmmm, yum heavenly....next bite...um, er a little salty...then back to tasty...etc. My friend agreed his burger was the same so someone was a little heavy handed that day. Fries and garlic fries were crispy and hot with enough garlic to not be overpowering. Simple and standard. They offer a garlic and house-made ranch dipping sauces which is a nice option and change from my usual combo of ketchup and black pepper. :) Would return for the quality burger and their specialty shakes. Metered street parking available

Valerie B.

Yelp
AVOID - FOOD POISONING. My son ate a burger here on Saturday and a few hours later had terrible abdominal pains. He has been sick for almost two days now with all the classic food poisoning symptoms. This place used to be a family favorite but even before this I've noticed the quality has gone downhill. Also, WEAR GLOVES when you handle food and don't cross-contaminate when handling money! Read the other negative reviews about their kitchen hygiene. As a side note, I didn't order anything this time bc the last time I did, it was a chicken burger that was completely pink inside. Never again.

Jonathan A.

Yelp
Food is decent service is trash! Several occasions called in and was left on hold why employees hold conversations amongst them self rude and unhelpful staff

Ebony T.

Yelp
Do not eat here if you care about your health. There were two employees working today. The guy making the burgers was using his bear hands. Then when I asked the to put on gloves they told me "no " you can get a your money back in 3 business days how when I paid and didn't get my food. The girl at the register went from handling money to touching the burgers with her hands as well. Unacceptable to say the least. Do your self a favor and eat anywhere but here. I can't believe the owners are ok with this nonsense.
google avatar

Jonathan W.

Yelp
Honestly this location struggles to compare to the Grand Lake location. There's just something a little off, Don't get me wrong, the burger was delicious. The fries are a little soggy but that's with both locations. I think next time I'm gonna ask for them to be cooked longer... The workers are nice and everything, it's just not as inviting as their staple location. It might just be there crime scen tape blocking the tables but that should end soon hopefully.. Maybe I'm being too picky because the burger really doesn't disappoint and that's really what most of us care about. Their competitor is a few doors down and Trueburger comes in under $20 so I find myself choosing them more often.
google avatar

Bryan T.

Yelp
Ive been coming to this location on Broadway. I suggest they wear gloves, especially when handling food, with all the viruses thats going around. One girl, heavy set, long curly hair, tattooed right arm ate a fry and made customers burgers at the same time. This is so unsanitary. Management PLEASE PROVIDE GLOVES for your employees. The restaurant was not busy at all. We came in on Sunday at around 2PM. It makes not want to come back and eat. I was disgusted and disappointed by it.
google avatar

Alex M.

Yelp
Place is overrated in my opinion. The burger was well cooked but lacking in flavor, the garlic fries are delicious and where the better part of the meal. Prices are reasonable and they're efficient and getting orders out. There isn't much seating and so it's more of a Togo place for those wanting to quick lunch to take to the office or on a nice evening, go to Lake Merritt
google avatar

Saloni M.

Yelp
This is a decent place to stop in for a quick bite or take away. There's one veggie option and it's a crispy portable low burger. It's oozing with cheese and has lettuce tomato and a bun. I really liked the texture of the fried mushroom - who wouldn't. I would say it could use just a touch more flavor that could be done with addition of salt or one of their condiments like garlic mayo or even just mustard. The fries were standard but hot fresh and crisp. I got the garlic ones. They aren't like the baseball stadium where they are covered in fresh garlic but they still have some garlic flavor. They were so fast was ready in under ten min which is great because I only stopped by to get gas in the neighborhood and needed something fast. I enjoyed my meal and would come back if I need a grab and go meal in the area. Also when I asked where the restroom was, the cashier said let me make sure it has everything for you which was nice. No one likes a surprise no tp or soap. Good customer service!
google avatar

Scott L.

Yelp
Dang.... my mouth is sore as the burger is so big that I popped my jaw. Guess I now know what the term "Jaw Popping" or is it "Jaw Dropping" means! Had the Deluxe which is a burger that also comes with a fried portobello mushroom. Guess that's why it's twice the height. Garlic Aioli in addition to the beef and the mushroom make the burger a mess fest.... which is a good thang....

Yelp
Trueburger is an Oakland burger icon and a must-try. There are 2 locations, Grand Ave. and Broadway. There are certain super indulgent days that I crave/dream about the True deluxe - the burger with the cheesy portobello mushroom- some garlic fries with the homemade ranch. Oh let's not forget the cookies and cream milkshake! Then I eat most of it and am in a food coma for the rest of the day. The fries (especially garlic) are definitely good for sharing, as they pile it up. Make sure to have some gum afterwards. Most days are on point, especially when I am eating at the restaurant where I can get the food piping hot and fresh. However, there is the rare occasion when the fries are a little cold and the burger isn't as up to par as usual. Nonetheless, I keep returning. I always remember the love at first bite taste.

Yelp
Now that I've been to TrueBurger a few times, I think it's a solid (3.5 stars) if not overly impressive burger joint. It reminds me of Super Duper in that they make burgers with quality ingredients (and you're definitely not paying fast food prices). Here's what I like: -I think their burgers are juicy and quite flavorful with the garlic mayo that they use. I've tried their cheeseburger and bacon cheeseburger and thought both were satisfying. -I like that they use a thin cut for their fries and use a good amount of salt. They are crispy, and their garlic fries would likely give a vampire pause. -They offer onion rings! I tried them once, and they come with a (ranch?) sauce. They have an excellent batter, and I would definitely get them again. Some downsides are that they are not the best at cooking your burger to your preferred texture. During my last visit, I ordered my burger medium rare, and it looked like it was straight up medium. Medium is the default, so keep that in mind if you are looking for your burger to still moo. The garlic fries were quite oily when I tried them last, so that was a small disappointment. The ambience is oddly sterile for a restaurant, so dining in feels cold and as if you are eating in a warehouse. Finally, I feel like for what you get in terms of food, this place is more expensive than I like (but facts are facts: quality ingredients don't come cheap).

Yelp
Ordered a burger via Doordash and the burger was raw. Couldn't tell from the outside but once I started getting to the middle of the burger it was cold, took a look and this is what I saw.

Yelp
Oh how I've missed you, Trueburger! I got the Truest of all burgers, the True Burger with everything on it. I love the garlic mayo!! It's my favorite burger sauce. I wish it had a kick of spice in it, maybe horseradish? I still love the Broadway location better, I feel like their meats are fresher there. Their milkshakes are so yummy! Definitely brings everyone to the yard. And go with the garlic fries. I always get a dill pickle to tickle my fancy while I gulp down my burger as shown in my photo. Always coming back for my True Burger fix in the town!

Yelp
Literally every single time they botch your order in some way, but I keep forgetting this and returning periodically. This time I asked for grilled onions, so they gave me none at all. Brilliant. And gave me old fries, despite showing up on-time for my online order. The burger itself was sloppily put together, too. This Broadway location is a forlorn, empty dump and a repository of incompetence. Go to the far-superior Emeryville location that actually gets business and has energetic, busy employees who know what they're doing.

Yelp
Yes, it's TRUE! Shayla enjoys herself some Trueburger! I used to work walking distance from the location on Grand. Ironically, I wasn't a big fan of them back then. Fast forward to now; I can honestly say that I've converted into a fan! So funny how things change over the years. I would DIE... for a big ol' juicy cheeseburger! Okay, I really wouldn't "die"... but I would lose my mind over it. The Trueburger "truly" had me goin' a little cray with its' thick, juicy patty, melted cheese, and fresh tomatoes and lettuce. Would have loved for the bun to be charred on the ends a little bit, but it still did the job. I added onions and pickles which are only added on request, and they tasted perfect! The burgers are filling as they should be with that slightly steep price tag. The burger alone isn't too costly, but it starts to add up once you add fries and a drink. It costed me nearly $20 for a cheeseburger, garlic fries, and a milkshake. Get them pockets prepared! The garlic fries were extremely tasty! No shortage of garlic was had with these babies. They are shoe string style and they really know how to load up on them. I have to say that I was most impressed with their banana milkshake! They use real fruit in their milkshakes and I could immediately tell just after one sip. It was thick and creamy! You can actually watch them prepare their shakes while you're waiting for your food. It was super busy when I came on a Friday evening, and I was able to snag one of the last seats near the window. Not sure how this place is for lunch, but it can get really busy during dinner time. Space can be pretty limited at times, but it's worth it if you're down to wait. This location doesn't seem to be nearly as busy at the location on grand. All in all, it's a great option for a tasty burger in Oakland. Just be prepared to wait during busy hours and expect to pay a pretty penny for a full meal.

Yelp
This is a TRUE experience of good food, made fresh and quick. Love this place and hate that I live so far and can only get it when I come into the Bay Area.

Yelp
Thumbs up for the burgers being done fast, despite how busy the store was, but I wasnt a huge fan of the burger itself. My meal was put together sloppy, and it was so juicy, that the paper soaked through, as the juice was trickling down to my elbow. I mean it was just a mess and a half. Overall, the store is a nice concept, the flavoring is good, and if you get someone to take the time to put the burger together properly, you will have a great meal. The interior gives fast food vibes - the chairs and tables wont be comfortable, and the staff is not the friendliest. Street parking is available.

Yelp
I love TrueBurger! Their burgers taste great, and I love the garlic aioli. Their fries are delicious and it's just all around a great burger. I've loved this restaurant for years & I haven't been disappointed yet.
