The Best Restaurants In Oxford - Oxford - The Infatuation

"When Tse Noodles opens for lunch at 12pm, there’s already a crowd congregating outside, cash in their pockets, ready to settle into the casual little Chinese spot for bowls of steaming noodle soup. Everything at the City Centre restaurant is around a tenner, which is probably why you’ll mostly see students slurping and scrolling, sharing tiny tables with complete strangers, and returning at least once a week for more. Tse veterans order in record time without so much as scanning the tick-box menu. It’s not just the value for money that keeps this spot constantly rammed though, it’s the fact that there is no wrong order. From spicy salt and pepper tofu, to their classic prawn wonton dumpling soup that’s as restorative as a week in the Maldives." - rianne shlebak

There’s nothing casual about Tse Noodle's excellent food - Review - Oxford - The Infatuation

"When Tse Noodle opens for lunch at 12pm, there’s already a crowd congregating outside, cash in their pockets, ready to settle into the casual little Chinese spot for bowls of steaming noodle soup. Everything at the City Centre restaurant is around a tenner, which is probably why you’ll mostly see students slurping and scrolling, sharing tiny tables with complete strangers, and returning at least once a week for more. Tse veterans order in record time without so much as scanning the tick-box menu, and the friendly servers dodge prams to rush after turned-away diners after rearranging tables and pulling chairs out of thin air to make space for them. It’s not just the value for money that keeps this spot constantly rammed though, it’s the fact that there is no wrong order. Every section of the menu is excellent. From spicy salt and pepper tofu—fiery, crisp cubes that are nice and airy inside—to their classic prawn wonton dumpling soup that’s as restorative as a week in the Maldives. This is one of the best meals you can have in Oxford, so come hungry. Food Rundown Spicy Salt & Pepper Tofu The crisp on this tofu is incredible: spicy and airy. This will convert any tofu-hater. Sweet & Sour King Prawn Rice Sweet and tangy from the chunks of pineapple, this is our least favourite dish. It could use more spice and the ratio of prawn to rice leaves you with too much rice leftover. photo credit: Rianne Shlebak Sichuan Red Peppercorn Deep Fried Spicy King Prawns Listed under ‘chef’s specials’, these spicy fried prawns are excellent. Sharp and peppery, this dish should absolutely be on your tiny little table. photo credit: Rianne Shlebak Prawn Wonton Dumpling Soup On a par with sipping a hot chocolate in bed while watching another questionable Netflix reality dating show, this dumpling soup is satisfying. The kind that you wish your mum would make you when your nose is runny, it’s the ultimate noodle soup and a big part of why you should come here. photo credit: Rianne Shlebak" - Rianne Shlebak

After finishing the Oxford walking tour last month, our guide recommended TSE NOODLES—and I’m so glad they did! I had a super satisfying lunch here: generous portions, great value, and absolutely delicious food. Even better, I met a fellow Indonesian working there—what a lovely surprise! We asked about halal options, and the staff kindly accommodated us by preparing our meals with vegetable broth. It’s always nice to see that kind of flexibility and hospitality. If you're in Oxford and craving comforting, flavorful noodles, this place is a must-visit. Definitely lived up to the recommendation!

Deliciously spiced and flavored noodles for great prices! Perfect for college students looking for a tasty lunch; however, note the place is CASH ONLY and it is a small place so be prepared for a homely environment.

Relatively decent Chinese food - we think their rice dishes are much better than the noodle dishes. Portion size is decent for the price paid. Do bring cash as they do not accept card payments (but there are many ATMs nearby if you forget). We thought the roasted duck rice was the star of all the dishes! Seasoning was good and it was super tasty. We also liked the sweet and sour king prawn rice - it looks and is very appetising. The spicy dishes weren’t too spicy, so it should be fine for those who can take a bit of heat.

One of my most frequented noodle restaurants in Oxford, I always want to get out of class every half-month for a delicious bowl of noodles, very tasty but a bit of a hassle only being able to pay with cash.

Had one of the chef's special, beef and glass noodles in Szechuan broth, and it was amazing! Service was great too, although prepare some cash as this place doesnt accept cards

A typical traditional chinese noodle house where the decor is very basic. Nothing extra ordinary in terms of service, not very warm welcoming - kind of service. But that's expected. There was only one guy preparing the dishes. It didn't take long for order to come and we had everything served to us correctly. Although I noticed, that there were other people who came before us, didn't get their food until we were half way finishing ours. The noodles we had, both were very nice and tasty..not sure about the amount of MSG in the food because after that I felt very thirsty for the rest of the day and it wasn't even a hot day.

Delicious and authentic place. The vegetarian options are a little bit limited but the noodles and gyozas were delicious. Note that they do not serve any alcoholic drinks and do not accept cash. The place is small but good for walk ins. Great value for money although the restaurant is quite small. Will definitely try again

First time at this establishment found the staff very welcoming. The interior although small felt very homely we were served very quickly and the starters came not long after ordering. As an avid chinese eater found the salt and chilli prawns exceptionally good. The rest of the food we received was second to none and the price was exceptional. Other people must agree as it was very busy. Is a must try and woud definitely be going again

Yelp
Came here a few times mostly for takeaway but also dined in once. For dining in we arrive at 12 pm sharp on a Thursday right when they opened. The tiny space was not crowded at that time, and our order came quickly and efficiently. It's a nearly self service kind of place because you place orders by checking off a sheet (that sheet is the menu). Xiaolong bao (with soup inside) was wonderful and delicate; beef noodle very good. I also got their wonton noodle before as take out. Love their salt and pepper shrimp, too. A highlight of our dining in experience was the salt and pepper tofu. Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. They have an open kitchen so you can see the chefs at work. The whole place was run fairly efficiently though they take only cash. A slight inconvenience since all other restaurants in Oxford take credit cards (even those eateries in nearby Covered Market.

Yelp
I've been curious about this place ever since I saw that it was open on Ship Street. I'm always on the lookout for new Chinese food, so the fact that another restaurant opened in Oxford got me excited. I went for dinner. Though it's a small location, it wasn't too busy at 5:30 PM and there were enough seats for my party of two. My friend had the beef noodles, while I opted for the Chongqing Spicy Noodles. I found my noodles to be pretty good, and would definitely return. Additionally, my friend and I opted to try some dim sum items. Unfortunately (and perhaps unsurprisingly), there weren't very many items on the dim sum menu. We ended up trying the xiao long bao and the char siu bao. The char siu bao was good, but the xiao long bao definitely did not pass my baseline standards. It seems to me as if the xiao long bao was simply bought from a Chinese supermarket and cooked from frozen. They were small and had barely any soup inside. Some things you might like to know when coming here: -If you're ordering the char siu bao, it comes with two buns. -If you're ordering the xiao long bao, there's four of them in an order. -The restaurant is cash only. Overall, a solid 3-star experience. Some items were good, some weren't as great. I don't know if I would go back of my own accord, but if one of my friends wanted to eat here, I wouldn't be strongly opposed to the suggestion.

Yelp
I've only had some of the dim sum items from the very limited menu and the wonton noodles. This is proper Canto taste. Hopefully my next visits will prove better. It's a tiny place with tiny table in a very cozy atmosphere. There's almost no table service. You walk in, seat yourself, and fill out what you want from the paper menu, then hand it back to the kitchen. Your order then comes out. When it's time to pay, you get up and ask how much your total is (unless you're smart enough to have tallied it up while you were ordering). I wasn't impressed with the dim sum. It's not bad, but I suspect it's just frozen fare from the freezer aisle. The wonton noodles were improperly cooked, just not snappy/bouncy enough. However, the wontons that came with the noodles were perfect. I'm planning to come back and try some of the other soup noodle dishes next time and anticipating less disappointment.
