Upstairs at the Mill

"A delightful 18C watermill overlooking a millpond; the old workings are still in situ in the stylish bar, above which sits a beamed restaurant with black furnishings. Good quality seasonal produce is showcased in modern dishes on the tasting menu and more classic dishes on the à la carte. The attractive outbuildings play host to some of the bedrooms." - Michelin Inspector

Tuddenham Mill (Tuddenham, Suffolk) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"A 17th-century mill house set on twelve acres of land in the Suffolk countryside finds new life as a hotel, one that combines timeless English country living with high-end contemporary boutique hospitality. This means, in the old mill house, modern double-sized freestanding tubs beneath ancient timbers, and in the newer rooms, clean contemporary Italian furnishings within rustic wooden structures. Matki luxury showers are stocked with ESPA bath products, and the feather duvets tempt late sleepers. What it all revolves around, ultimately, is the award-winning restaurant, serving modern British classics made from local, seasonal ingredients." - Tablet Hotels

I booked a night away here for my husbands birthday. The setting is gorgeous, it’s peaceful and our nook overlooking the meadow was just perfect. The bed was comfortable and the pillows soft and amazing. It was the perfect size for two. Bathroom was big with a huge shower and with the fantastic weather it was lovely to sit out on the deck with a glass of bubbles. The staff were accommodating and friendly. I asked at reception for some champagne glasses for the room and I was presented with an ice bucket too. The complimentary items in the room were fab! Fridge was stocked with milk, water (both still and sparkling) locally sourced apple juice, brownies for my husbands birthday, along with a card. Also a decanter with sloe gin. Breakfast was lovely, nothing was too much trouble. The espa toiletries in the room smelt amazing too. Can’t wait to go back. Only small downside was it was ever so hot in the nook but there was a Dyson fan which helped no end. It was a birthday treat to remember gutted a didn’t book two nights!

We’ve stayed at Tuddenham multiple times over the past few years and loved it so much that we recently had our wedding there. It was the perfect day. The staff were amazing and ensured the day went smoothly. The food was delicious, all our guests agreed. And the venue itself just looked stunning. Big thank you to Michaela for helping us plan the day in the months leading up, we couldn’t have done it without you. I have no doubt we’ll be staying here as much as we can over the years to come, it’s a very special place for us. Thank you Tuddenham!

From the moment we arrived at Tuddenham Mill, we were captivated by the absolutely scenic and peaceful surroundings. Nestled in the beautiful countryside, the setting alone made the experience feel like a true escape from everyday life. The food was, without a doubt, out of this world — every dish was a perfect balance of creativity, flavor, and presentation. You can really tell the chefs here put passion and expertise into every plate. The service was just as impressive. The waiters were so kind, attentive, and professional, always there when you needed them without ever feeling intrusive. Their warmth and attention to detail made the entire evening even more special. Tuddenham Mill truly exceeded every expectation. I can’t recommend it highly enough for anyone looking for a memorable dining experience in a stunning location. We can’t wait to come back!

Tasting menu with wine paring was superb. Accommodation was superlative. A great wedding anniversary treat. Expensive but value for money. Reception was great, restaurant was lovely, hostess was wonderful, chef was brilliant. Just ask, nothing too much trouble. Tasting menu better than Alan Roux Waterside. Fab stay. Cemented a special moment. A memory forever. Should be Michelin Starred. Thank you guys!!!

A wonderful experience. Went here today for lunch with my husband. It was a 10/10 experience; exceptional service, lovely food (high quality ingredients) and a beautiful outdoor setting. It was my husbands birthday and the waiter couldn’t have done more to make it special. Highly recommended. We will be back soon!

Wanted to get that 'luxury' stay feeling on our four night break, but the mill stream room was a bit disappointing. Firstly, it's only fair to compliment all the staff for their professionalism and the breakfast was superb on all four mornings. The venue was pleasant and parking was good. The large bed was very comfortable and the complimentary toiletries and sloe gin were much appreciated. Now the negatives of our stay. The bathroom had a strong damp smell, the mini fridge door was broken, the television signal was poor and the room lacked any drawers. The room was very basic, although the bathroom was of a good standard the damp smell was off-putting. All in all the room was not luxury and that's a shame.

Visited the restaurant for dinner. Very impressed. Wonderful and creative dishes. Very happy to see that the vegan tasting menu was appropriately priced relative to the non vegan one. The setting was charming and the staff were considerate and accommodating. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Great food, great location. Tucked away in the village of Tuddenham nr Newmarket is this old water mill. Style is a balanced mix of modern design which is sensitive to the old mill. Areas are on display from the moment you walk in showing the workings of the water wheel, cogs, workings and old timbers of the building. A large pond that links to a river walk is outside. Watch out for swan poo!! Elegant dining upstairs that will not disappoint with a slightly more casual affair downstairs by the bar or pond terrace. Well worth a visit if you enjoy fine dining. Tasty, beautifully presented...
