Best Thai Restaurants in Austin | Eater Austin

"The South Manchaca neighborhood Thai restaurant is another Austin classic. The family-run spot offers exemplar dishes ranging from soups to stir-fries to curries. The house specials in particular are great, such as the hor mok, a steamed fish dish with red curry. Takeout orders can be placed online; there are indoor and outdoor dine-in services." - Erin Russell

Google
This place provides a comfortable and really clean serene atmosphere. The staff is extremely nice and accommodating. I got the tom yun pork noodle soup and my sis got the pan nang curry at least I think thats what they were called. Both dishes were brimming with flavor and packed with food. The crab ragoon that we got as a side might be the best crab ragoon ive ever had!!! And we got the coconut pudding we havent had that yet but im sure its yummy!

Google
Friendly Thai restaurant selling most of their business as to go orders even though they have several peaceful tables inside and on an unshaded patio in front of the store. They have an extensive menu of rice, noodle, and broth-based dishes with many vegetarian options. They have a small free parking lot. They are located across the street from a library and just down the street from great desert at quank's.

Google
Tuk Tuk Thai is a great Thai food spot. They're more of a takeout kind of a place, but they do have seating. If you wish to dine in. Just realize they're more oriented towards take out food. The food is fresh and it's great. The flavors are amazing. The portions are huge. Hubby's Pad Thai was loaded with shrimp. The sesame chicken had a fantastic taste, not just a glaze. My pad see ewe was delicious with a lovely balance of ingredients. Remember they are mostly a take out place so service so is done in take away containers, take away plates, everything is temporary. There's no metal forks or spoons or plates or like that here. Great food! Very nice friendly staff

Google
After seeing so many good reviews, I decided to try this place today. The staff was very friendly, and my order came out quickly. I decided to order the massaman curry because it's my favorite dish, but unfortunately, I'm disappointed. When I've ordered it at other restaurants, the curry contains potatoes, carrots, onions, and peanuts, which is what gives it a special flavor, but at this restaurant, they only use potatoes and chicken, and the flavor is very bland. Not sure if I would like to try something else.

Google
i love this place and their food so much!! the pad see ew is amazing, and this beef noodle soup is incredible!! one of my new favorite soups when i need a comforting meal. flavors are perfect, portions are generous, spice level is customizable which i love! all the food i’ve had from here is great

Google
So much to list ✨️ First and foremost, love the welcoming 🙏 The cleanliness was just a first impressions spot on 👍 The food OMG 😲 !!! I ordered the half fried half steamed dumplings 😋 they were the bomb, as soon as Pete brought them to my table , instantly reminded me of horsd'oeuvres, soooo delicious 😋 perfect bite soze dumplings. . It gets better, I ordered the noodles 🍜 soup with pork loin, beef was just so beefy 💯 👍. The taste and the aroma from that soup was far beyond any pho I've ever had . Pete was the hots brother, he was a gent, super nice guy , couldn't have a better half a week without you guys 😉 Thanks Tuk Tuk Thai Cafe ❤️ 😍 💖 ❣️

Google
It is the absolute best Pad Thai in South Austin. My Thai friend recommended it, and I've been a regular visiting at least two times a month for the past seven years. It's super affordable and they give you huge portions. Plus, the food is just amazing. I've tried their Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, nearly all of their fried rice options, and the Tom Yum soup.

Google
Took my two young daughters here for lunch on Sunday 12/7. The woman working in the front made a great recommendation (flat noodle dish) and they loved it! Food was served quickly and it was great!

Yelp
My go to for some amazing Pad See Ew I highly recommend to all! The delivery service has always been on point!

Yelp
Seriously one of my favorite Thai places in Austin! The Pad Thai is always delicious, I usually get it with no spice (I know, basic) but the tanginess of the brown sauce is so delicious I don't think it needs anything else!! The Pad See Ew is also phenomenal, though slightly sweeter so I add a little spice to it. Either way, they're both delicious. But the star of the show for me? Always the Yellow Curry!!!! Some of the best yellow curry I've had here in Austin, it's not too sweet and the coconut flavor is perfectly balanced. I add a little spice and Thai basil and it's top notch, always my comfort food when I'm not feeling well. The chicken in all the dishes is always delicious, super tender and flavorful. To top it all off, they're always super quick when I order takeout or delivery. Consistently delicious, flavorful food, and convenient as well. Prices are great too, I order here about once a month if not more and I can't wait to order again!

Yelp
I've consistently heard glowing reviews about this local spot, but my experiences at Tuk Tuk have left me underwhelmed. Tuk Tuk provides five distinct spice levels for its array of dishes. I typically opt for spice level 3, and find a good kick. Among the items I've tried, I've had the Crab Rangoons, Pad Kee Mao, and Tom Yum Soup. The Crab Rangoons were overcooked, with a deep-fried wrapping that missed the mark. Similarly, the Pad Kee Mao lacked care and flavor, tasting predominantly burnt with a noticeable absence of savory sauce or sweet notes.

Yelp
Order delivery from here. Delivery was relatively quick and the order was correct, food was still hot when it arrived! The food was ok for me. We ordered; Panang Curry - it was packed with protein and veggies but lacked a bit on flavor, which was a bummer. 3/5 Chicken Pad Thai - next time I would order without the chicken. While there was a good portion of chicken, it was pretty dry and I ended up pulling all the chicken out and eating the dish without. 3/5 Crab Rangoon - great flavor and serving size. Wish it was served with sweet n sour sauce, it came with a small orange sauce that didn't have much flavor. 4/5 Egg Roll - traditional egg roll. 4/5 Overall was ok, I would maybe give it another try in store to see if dining in quality is any different, but really it came down to flavor/being bland.

Yelp
Wow!!! This is a fantastic delivery find in South Austin. I'm super picky about my Thai food, coming from the SF Bay Area and having had an extended stay in Thailand. I've been to at least a dozen spots in Austin and on the South side this place takes the win. They being the heat (upon request) and the flavors are on point as opposed to sugar bombs. The Pad Thai and Spicy Noodle Soup (which is basically a Kow Soy) are both excellent but their Hor Mok is truly outstanding. It's a fish soufflé cooked in a banana leaf and exploding with incredible flavor. One of the most unique and authentic dishes I've had since moving to Austin. Must try!

Yelp
Tuk Tuk Thai offers great tasting Thai at a price that makes ordering their takeout an easy decision. I ordered the Pad Gaprow with Chicken and Steamed rice for takeout. Food: Really good! A great mix of veggies serviced with a lite, fresh, and spicy brown sauce. Every bite was jam packed with flavor and wonderful texture. I chose spice level 3 and it definitely had a nice kick without being overpowering. Overall: Tuk Tuk Thai is a great place for weekend or weeknight takeout!
google avatar

Jamielee J.

Yelp
Great food! Accommodating for vegans, just make a note on your order if there isn't an option to remove some things. Our order was made quickly and was great
google avatar

April C.

Yelp
Heard a lot about this place so I ordered for lunch. I thought it was okay wasn't rich enough I did get my order pretty fast. The eggrolls were delicious. I may have a better experience if I actually went to the restaurant versus ordering delivery so I will definitely try again.
google avatar

Yelp
Cute little place. Don't speed on by. Could be semi easy to miss. Don't make that mistake. Stop by and enjoy some incredible food! Appetizers are great portions. I had spring rolls. Very fresh and tasty. Ordered the Tom Yum soup and shared Pad Thai. Flavors are on point! Cooked perfectly and served quickly. Staff kind, pleasant and knowledgeable. Fast service, good food, great atmosphere. Definitely recommend if in the area. Well worth a stop for a delicious meal

Yelp
My photo doesn't do it justice but please trust me that TukTuk is some of the best Thai food in Austin. I orderly this frequently for my C-suite executives and they all LOVE it. Chock full of flavor, chicken and vegetables, I will now order the green curry every single time. I've historically ordered the chicken pad see ew which is also amazing. Spring rolls are awesome too!!
google avatar

Fr. Ryan L.

Yelp
Pretty disappointing. They've got tables and chairs, but don't have a dine in option - and nothing on their website or social media to indicate that. We were really looking forward to trying their Penang too - bummer.
google avatar

Jeff G.

Yelp
Tuk Tuk is my "go-to" place for tasty takeout Thai food. I adore their Pad Thai and the fact that you can specify one of several different proteins is a big plus. Tofu is my fave followed closely by chicken and pork. The ingredients are all prepared as they should be and properly proportioned as well. Their service is top notch as well. They will call you when your order is ready so I make sure I'm close by when that happens. They no longer offer table service, except for 2 small tables in the front of the restaurant, it's mostly for takeout. I'm also a big fan of their Tom Yum Noodle soup w/pork - it's savory and spicy with tender rice noodles. I've tried a few other dishes but I keep coming back to these two. Give them a try, you won't regret it.
google avatar

Katelyn D.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place. It's highly affordable with great flavor. We've tried a ton of different options on the menu and every one has been awesome. The service is quick, the food is delicious. The serving sizes are large enough to eat until you're full and have excellent leftovers for your next meal. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Julia C.

Yelp
The food here is very good! Very fresh and homemade taste. Other Thai places in the area seem like they add a lot of sugar to their dishes, and they are too sweet. This place does not do that. The food is seasoned and balanced well. When we came to eat, they didn't officially offer "dine-in", but did allow us to eat at a table from our takeaway boxes. Service was super friendly. Will be back!
google avatar

Joe T.

Yelp
The food was very good - the downsize is the dinning room was not in operation so had to eat meal in the car which was not a good experience. Will only go back if dinning room is open.
google avatar

Carolyn C.

Yelp
This place is seriously a Gem! First the customer service is Great so nice and patient they definitely made sure we were taken care of and made sure we didn't need anything. I think because of COVID they still have not open their lobby fully. They have a few tables and high tables as you enter available. And they do have outside seating. The FOOD!!! So GOOD!! Welled served the food so flavorful! I not sure what my husband ended up getting but he asked for it spicy ( they rank from 1-5) he went with a 4 and they had him sweating and he LOVES spicy food! We really enjoyed this place and can't wait to go back!! I HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!!
google avatar

Yelp
I've never dined in, but man the take out hits the goddamn SPOT. Actually, I might need to order soon. Food is so goooood. Yummmmmmmm
google avatar

Dave J.

Yelp
Great food and service. Nice size portions. Friendly staff. Dining space is small but clean.
google avatar

Kyle D.

Yelp
Always pretty solid. Thai tea is very good. Always hot and tasty! It's my second go to Asian delivery!

Kaylin K.

Yelp
I hate to write this review, but my fiancé and I ordered dinner from here last night via Door Dash. I genuinely think it was the worst food we've ever had. It was our first time trying this restaurant and we were sorely disappointed. We genuinely couldn't even eat it. We tried two bites and could barely swallow them. Our dog smelled it and wouldn't even lick it.

Caleb B.

Yelp
Tuk Tuk Thai gets 6 out of 5 stars! Solid service. fantastic food. Amazing ambiance.

Asjia A.

Yelp
Decided to give this place another try and I am seriously impressed !! I don't know what was going on when I first tried them but there has been a MAJOR improvement and I'm so glad bc they are right down the street from me and I think I finally found my Thai place in south Austin. The yellow curry, fried rice, rice soup, and pad Thai are super good. And they are good about food intolerances/allergies.
google avatar

Derek M.

Yelp
I've been back a handful of times and Tuk Tuk has really won me back over. The no-frills take-out model is very convenient and successful, with them pumping out orders right on time for swinging by and grabbing when I need a quick meal. They have a large menu, and are very accommodating of making dishes dietary restriction safe. I regularly make my meals gluten-free and egg-free, and have never had any issues with cross contamination. They're also a very friendly business.
google avatar

Rob P.

Yelp
Great food. We love the masaman curry and the Thai coconut pudding. They're consistent and one of the best in the area.
google avatar

Rachel W.

Yelp
Hands down one of the best Thai spots in South Austin! Everyone in my family loves their food and we regularly order from them. The food is always nicely packaged and tastes incredible. My personal favorite is their Tom Kha Gai soup with a Thai tea. They also have a wide variety of options which allows everyone in the family to get something they genuinely enjoy. Absolutely worth a try if you've never ordered from Tuk Tuk's before.
google avatar

Curtis G.

Yelp
Two comments: * The fact that the restaurant has not returned to in restaurant dining is, by itself, a definite negative. .The need for isolation is generally behind us and people need a place to eat when they are away from home. * Secondly, the quality / taste of the dishes has gone south since only carryout / delivery is allowed - food tastes best when freshly prepared. This restaurant used to be one of my top choices for Thai food - now, I rarely consider ordering from here
google avatar

Abubu A.

Yelp
Pad Gaprow is amazing here. It's like a curry that's spicy and amazing with white rice. My favorite is the seafood one. Also the pad kee mao here is quality noodles. Do I think this place is 1618 Asian fusion food? No. But it's a 5/5 cause in a sea of bad Thai places in Austin this is my number 2 and they have quality ingredients and it's good. So if in south Austin Tuk Tuk is a great option along with 1618 Asian fusion!
google avatar

Jahveniz R.

Yelp
I've been to Tuk Tuk multiple times but it seems like the food gets blander everything I go. Today I ordered the pad Thai with an up-charge for extra veggies and it was SO dry and had about 2 pieces of broccoli and carrot.

Ethan W.

Yelp
Wow! My debate team went here for dinner in the night of our tournament and it was definitely a joy for everyone. Service was great, efficient, and most importantly friendly! The food itself was also exquisite. Thai food is not usually one of my top 3 "go-to"s but after Tuk Tuk Thai Cafe, it definitely is. In terms of environment and ambiance, the restaurant feels both cozy and capitative with mesmerizing umbrellas on the ceiling and a fishtank. Will definitely come back if ever in the area and highly recommend.
google avatar

Robert B.

Yelp
The yellow curry was amazing! Perfect spice level, creamy, delicious, and full of potatoes and chicken! I would recommend this place to anyone. It's my new goto thai place in south Austin!
google avatar

Betsie R.

Yelp
When we initially walked into this place, we thought it was a sit down restaurant, however it was a takeout only restaurant. There were a couple of tables that they offered for us to sit at, but it was right by the front door where people were lining up to pick up food. We decided to order food to go. We ordered the pad thai with chicken, pineapple curry fried rice with beef, crab rangoon, and a thai iced tea to sip on while the food was being prepared. The cup was filled to the brim with ice, which left me with about 3 sips of tea. The tea was nothing special. I've had better thai iced tea before. I asked for a refill since it was taking long to prepare our food. The employee said we don't do refills and when I questioned why there was so much ice and left with 3 sips of actual tea, the employee's response was, "this is how we do it here." For $4.50, that's expensive for a very small amount of below average thai tea. The food taste and quality was lacking. The beef in the fried rice was very chewy and there were barely any pieces of pineapple in the dish. The crab rangoon and pad thai was nothing special. I will not return. There are better Thai restaurants in Austin to go to.

brad s.

Yelp
I honestly don't know how this restaurant has four stars. We got the following: Tom Kha Soup with shrimp Pad See Ew with beef Chicken Stir Fry They were all bland and slightly sweet. The one positive (my wife says I should add in the good) was the veggies were fresh. But the meat was of low quality: In a blind taste test we'd be hard pressed to tell you if the "beef" was beef, pork, or chicken... At best this place is a "C"
google avatar

Mike E.

Yelp
Food: 4/5 Some of the best pad thai in Austin! The red curry left a little to be desired taste wise. Service: N/A This was a takeout order. Environment: N/A This was a takeout order.

Priscilla S.

Yelp
Don't eat here unless you want to get ripped off. $1 for a side of onions. We counted 8 slivings. And they charged us for an 8oz and gave us 4oz. How disgusting. And no the food was not that good.
google avatar

Nick G.

Yelp
It has been a long time since I have been here, my favorite dish was the flaming, hot pot soup, which was served table side over hot flames to keep it warm, absolutely delicious! All the dishes I had in the past were excellent, I really need to get back there. The last time I went by they were doing takeout service only, but I prefer to sit down on the premises to eat.
google avatar

Kaeleigh S.

Yelp
Favorite thai in Austin, hands down. And I don't say that lightly. I grew up in Singapore and have been to Thailand so I'm kinda a snob when it comes to my thai. Tuk Tuk meets the mark and more! Their service is always wonderful, the food is always delicious, and they accommodate allergies well. I get the chicken Pad Thai and Fried rice, both gluten free and dairy free, and it's so good every time. Also just started getting the Pad Se Ew and it may have to become a regular order--SO good. And their portions are great! We end up getting multiple meals out of it. You definitely get a bang for your buck. Tuk Tuk is the best!!

Stacey S.

Yelp
Kids loved this place. Only desire would be for more fresh salad options. We did take out and it came warm and delicious.
google avatar

Aliza K.

Yelp
I am visiting from New York and wanted some Thai! This is honestly the most disappointing food I have ever eaten. It was honestly disgusting, I can not believe this place has 4.8 stars, I am genuinely confused. This food was so bad almost inedible. If you know Thai food you know this is absolutely a disgrace to the thai culture. This place lacks soooooo much flavor, freshness and everything in between 10/10 would NOT recommend.
google avatar

John L.

Yelp
They are not doing Dine-In at the present time, even this late into the pandemic. They seem to have a good contingent of people who use them based on the amount of cars picking up food. Good sign. I had the Kai Soi. It was a wonderful dish of curry, soft egg noodles, and fried egg noodles. The flavors were delicious and a good umami was present. I would definitely go back and try their other dishes.
google avatar

Smit P.

Yelp
One of our favorite Thai food restaurants in Austin. They currently only allow take out food but I promise you it will not disappoint. In particular, their pad kee mao is a hit!
google avatar

Lonnie T.

Yelp
Great food! Good service, they haven't been allowing dine in so ambience is ambiguous. I ordered the Pad Thai, loved it so much I came back the next night and ordered it again. If a Thai place has outstanding Pad Thai then I can bet the rest of the menu is going to be delicious. Can't wait to try their curry.
google avatar

Bo B.

Yelp
The food is very mediocre here. Food: Crab Rangoon - good Pad Thai - a bit bland Massaman curry - good
google avatar

Elsie T.

Yelp
10/10 no complaints, nothing but love for Tuk Tuk. It's just something about those dumplings and their dumpling sauce!! Also, their shrimp is bomb. It's not that low quality shrimp other restaurants use. I always get shrimp anything. LOVE TUK TUK!!
google avatar

Annie O.

Yelp
The Pad Thai was amazing! Super friendly staff. I did take out so I was in and out very quickly.

Yelp
I've tried Tuk Tuk Thai Café when I moved to Kyle as it's the closest place I could find with a full thai menu. Parking seems like it might be somewhat difficult depending on the time of day you go there. Far warning I can't take heat so when I say an item is hot, it's probably fine for 99.9% of the people. The egg rolls were pretty standard but tasty. The Chicken Satay was juicy and had a nice little crust to it. I tried the dumplings and they were wonderful. The pork was tender and while the water chestnut was unexpected it was very crunchy which was pleasant. Crab rangoons are standard fair as well. Cream cheese, imitation crab and a slight hit of lemon? Next I tried the Garee Curry (yellow) with pork. I asked for mild but this thing was HOT. I had literal tears running out of my eyes eating it. The pork was cooked right but there was little curry to the dish which was surprising as well as the missing carrots. Pad Thai, the national dish of Thailand, seems to be different for almost all restaurants in terms of what's in it and if things are cooked. I tried the Pad Thai mild with Shrimp. There were 5 big shrimp, and I couldn't find much fish sauce in the dish which gives it the salty, fermented background notes that make the dish. The portion size was good and there was no raw cabbage. Again, most restaurants have their own take... Finally the Thai basil fried rice was ok. It didn't have enough basil to make the dish fragrant and the pork was a little overcooked. The rice has a nice consistency and the rest of the dish was on par with other establishments. Overall, I was not inspired to try this place again after my experience. It just missed the mark too many times for me and since I don't eat Thai that much I want quality the few times I get it.
google avatar

Bora K.

Yelp
I got pad see ew and pork noodle soup. The noodle soup was great but the pad see ew was bad this time. I feel like the taste and quality is different every time. The service and ambiance was fine.
google avatar

Victor A.

Yelp
Excellent! Definitely the best (most authentic) Thai in Austin. Service is totally awesome- family-run business. The flavor profiles haven't been too Westernized, and it still tastes like Thai food. Some ingredients have been unavailable lately- that's the only limitation. Spice level 1 is tame, 3 starts to bring it up. The menu has some interesting options besides the Pad Thai and Pad Se Eew, definitely worth stepping out of your comfort zone. ThomYunGun is fantastic, Fish cakes are great (when available)- it's never disappointing. Take-Out only Since the pandemia, but it's tidy and clean inside.
google avatar

John T.

Yelp
This is our first time to try this restaurant. The foods are good and very quick to serve. They only open for few tables for dine in with to go containers.
google avatar

W. Adam G.

Yelp
Go over to lazy Dayz for some wonderful cannabis, then hit Tuk Tuk, 4 some kickass dumplings

Lucy S.

Yelp
Such a lovely couple and amazing food. Will definitely be back!! Beware the line is so long because it is that good
