Chill vibes, killer smash burgers, and inventive cocktails make this neighborhood spot a go-to for tasty bites and a lively atmosphere.
"Tulip Shop Tavern. I worked in Germany for a bit and their fried pork cutlet sandwich reminds me of a good schnitzel sandwich." - Thom Hilton
"The magic of the patties at this laidback neighborhood tavern is that they remain surprisingly juicy despite getting the smash treatment, which can often result in too-dry burgers. The menu offers choices including a standard smash burger, a house-made veggie burger, and specials like green chile burgers and taco burgers, but the Fair Burger is a consistent standout. The quarter-pounder gets an injection of flavor from the addition of garlic aioli, caramelized onions, and white American cheese. Add a side of the colossal onion rings if you’re feeling ambitious and wash it down with a pint from the solid rotating selection of draft beers." - Ron Scott, Janey Wong
"This North Killingsworth tavern often offers some sort of fun margarita special, be it a blended mandarin number or something with a little bit of heat; on a recent visit, the shop’s take on a Cadillac margarita had a tiny splash of Nonino in the mix, adding an herbaceous, botanical note to the tequila and orange liqueur. It was a sophisticated riff on the drink, without losing its essential components." - Alex Frane, Eater Staff
"Tulip Shop Tavern. This is very good upscale bar food, with deceptively normcore weekly specials (patty melts on Mondays, hot chicken on Thursdays) executed with low-key high-end precision."
"I was craving a good burger, so I went to one of my burger standbys, Tulip Shop Tavern. Smash burgers generally aren’t my favorite type of burger, but Tulip Shop does them so well, maintaining a supremely juicy patty in its smash. You really can’t go wrong with any of the tavern’s burgers/sandwiches, but my favorite on the permanent menu is the Fair Burger. It’s nothing too fancy, dressed with caramelized onions, white American cheese, shredded lettuce, and pickles, but they slather this garlic aioli on there that’s so creamy and flavorful, I would buy it by the bottle if it was available." - Eater Staff
