The 18 Best Restaurants in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico | Eater

"Tunki is a collaboration between Belmold’s Casa de Sierra Nevada hotel in SMA and Mexico City’s lauded Handshake Speakeasy. The cocktail bar offers diligent, friendly service and a short but sweet list of original drinks that will carry you through San Miguel’s sunsets, like the Flowerbomb — tequila, St. Germain, and orange blossom — and the Cariño, a creamy concoction with rum, yellow Chartreuse, vanilla, lemon, and Greek yogurt. The tapas menu is fresh and heavy on Peruvian-inspired seafood options like the Amazonian ceviche (catch of the day, lychee, and leche de tigre) and the patarashca fish marinated with ají, grilled and served with cassava. Book in advance to choose between the lounge, bar, or main dining-room seating." - Natalia de la Rosa

The 50 Best Bars in North America, According to the '50 Best' List (2024) | Bon Appétit

"Handshake Speakeasy in Mexico City, led by bar director Eric van Beek, was crowned at a ceremony on April 23 in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. The bar’s interior plays into a sleek Prohibition era vibe—a polished black marble bar, black velvet seats, and gold accents throughout. The drinks are similarly understated: The piña colada, for example, comes not in a hurricane glass with a colorful umbrella but clarified and carbonated with a single long block of ice." - BySam Stone

An outpost brought to us by the official best bar in the world according to the 50best awards, aka Handshake. Without a doubt this is one of the most beautiful terraces in all of San Miguel. Do yourself a favor and catch the sunset over here. The food was great but there’s no shortage of that in this city. The cocktails- stellar, to be expected from their creators. But once again, the view is truly something to write home about.

We went upstairs on the rooftop for drinks only. We tried five different drinks and they were all very good. Right amount of booze, but not too boozy. Service was fantastic. Music was playing, but the volume was not too loud to have in conversation easily with someone next to you. The biggest winner of this location is the view evidenced in the videos attached. Beautiful scenic rooftop. The roof rooftop is also covered in case of some rain. Drinks were approximately $15 per drink.

Proper craft cocktails, tropical cozy environment, rooftop views, good bites. Worth the stars. I recommend making a booking ahead of time but we were lucky to be able to walk in after inquiring at the Belmont hotel. Staff was friendly and super professional. This view was only rivaled by the view at the Numu hotel rooftop where we stayed for this trip.

One of the many highlights of San Miguel de Allende. Great service, we had a special pizza that night and I swear was one of the best pizzas I've ever had, and this is not a pizza place! The cocktails were tasty and perfectly strong. We also had a first class view. The clientele were mostly expats and/or tourist, which was noticeably boujee.

So so fabulous. Book ahead, because they may not let you in otherwise if you aren’t staying at the hotel. Fabulous cocktails and food - get the watermelon tiradito and the chicharron sandwich. I could have eaten one of those sandwiches every day. Tucked inside one of the hotel villas, so we had to go to the main lobby of the hotel to have someone escort us over.

The drinks and ceviche at Tunki were outstanding! We ordered the Shrimp and Grilled Watermelon Tiradito Ceviches. The flavors were incredible. Request Alejandro as your server. He’s wonderful! If you go late in the afternoon, right after opening, you’ll have your pick of most cozy/scenic spot to sit.

This place is perfect for small bites, cocktails, or a coffee/tea break. The staff was stupendous, and the small bites were packed with flavor. It’s a bit pricey, but the portions are generous enough to hold you over until your next meal. The dessert was also fantastic! The sunset here was absolutely magical—such a beautiful way to end the day. Our server, Alejandro, was exceptional. He handled our group of 12 ladies with ease and professionalism—great hospitality all around! We’d definitely come back, but only if we’re lucky enough to have Alejandro as our server again. I also want to acknowledge the hard work of the entire team. Behind Alejandro, there was the bartender, the chef, and the cleaning staff, all working seamlessly together. It was clear how much effort everyone put into making our experience special. I hope the hotel is rewarding their staff for such excellent service!
