Tunnicliff's Tavern

This was my first time ordering from here and will be my last. I ordered the steak and cheese with a side of mac and cheese. The bread to steak ratio was insane. The bread is so thick all you taste was bread, so i ended up taking out the inside of the bread. It could've used more meat. I would've been better off going to jersey Mike's. The mac and cheese didn't look or taste like mac and cheese. Close to no flavor but with a very slight taste of odd sweetness. I needed up throwing it away. I also order the Ruben which was said to be decent.

Good atmosphere and location. Stopped in for breakfast with family. Cocktails were served within 10 minutes of ordering. The servings are plentiful and very tasty. Really enjoyed the French Toast. The smoked Gouda Mac & Cheese w/sweet cornbread reminds me of home. Price point is perfect.

Came for burgers but smelled the pizza and had to have it… it smelled SO good! I ordered a pepperoni. Unfortunately, they brought me out a perfectly cooked cheese pizza, and just took it back and added pepperoni and cooked it more so it was a bit over cooked in my opinion and my partner had his food and I had to wait. Other than that, it was great! Everything was tasty. Service was good. No wait for 2 on a Friday night. I’d go back!

A fantastic neighborhood bar. If there's something Latin or Filipino on the specials board, that's what you should get. A solid place for a comfort meal and a beer or two. The staff here is solid and friendly. I don't think I've ever had a bad visit.

I had lunch here for the first time, visiting from Texas, and it was enjoyable. I had the fish and chips which were a little greasy but tasty. My daughter had the seared tuna salad which she enjoyed. My only complaint was the coleslaw was a bit off. It's almost as if they mixed old salad with the new because one bite would be nice and crunchy and the next somewhat mushy. However the waitstaff was very on point.

We’ve been going for 14 years with and without kids. Staff are very friendly and organized. My kids love it. Food is pretty good. Good burgers, fries, pizza,cheese sticks, and calamari. Specials are always good. We will keep coming. Great neighborhood joint!

Tunnicliff's doesn't disappoint the local community. It has good food, good prices, good service, and good people. It's first come, first serve in the back of the restaurant. If you're looking for a quick bite or a friendly outdoor meal on their patio, they aim to please. They're located in a convenient location across from Eastern Market. If you're a dog owner, bring him or her along. They allow pets on the patio! All in all, it's a fun casual environment with good food.

I ordered a fried chicken sandwich on Uber eats and the chef added ingredients that I didn't ask for so I was unable to eat it due to allergies smh! So irritated!

Came here for a team dinner with my workmates. Been a few times and never been disappointed. We ordered the spinach dip which nobody wanted to share because it was a hit. Then we got old bay wings which were also a hit

We had an OK lunch here today. I ordered the sesame tuna salad. It wasn't great, but it was definitely better than the fish & chips I had the last time I was here. I wish the tuna had been more flavorful. My husband had the turkey club. He thought it was OK. His sandwich came with French fries, & I had some of them--again. they weren't great.

I came here on a Saturday at 1 with 3 friends. The inside is very much a sports bar and people were drinking and watching sports. They also do a $4 irish coffee/margarita special. I got the blueberry pancake and it tasted homemade. It seemed like they used real blueberries. Pancake wasn't overly sweet which I liked. My roommate got the margarita pizza and rated it a 8/10. It's a lot for one person so you might be able to make two servings out of it. Seemed like a standard pizza. Their breakfast pizza with eggs seemed good, too. Also, the table next to us got the breakfast burrito which I really wanted to try.

Good solid 3* burger and experience. Great location across from the Eastern Market. Good 3* service. Good burger. But...one of my burger criteria to measure is, does the bun stay together for the whole burger. In this case, it didn't. So, that's probably why this was a 3*. Tasty burger patty with nice veggies and bacon. Overall, it was a solid, beefy looking handheld. Can substitute the fries for other options. It was a hard choice between the sweet potato fries and tater tots. Give them a try especially on a nice, sunny day.

First time back at Tunnicliffs after being away since May 2018 due to relocating outside DC. Better than I remember hence upgrading my review from a 4 to a solid 5! Scott the manager / bar tender was still on scene and a class act. Sound beer selection, wine for my guest, clean / cold glasses. Cheeseburger was perfectly cooked to medium as requested, side salad fresh (no wilted lettuce) - all condiments clean (to include lid caps). Fish and chips could not have been better....crispy batter, not oily, clean fryer oil, slaw fresh, not too much mayo. Strong wifi. As stated, it was already really good, but this visit took it up a notch. Thanks Scott and Tunnicliff's - a cool little place on 7th that I recommend and plan to visit again next pass through.

Been going here for years, the food is always amazing, never had a wait or slow service. And the portions are hugeeee. The cake slice was larger than my head so plan on sharing.

This is my first review for Tunnicliff's, even though I thought I sung their praises in the past on here. I have been a customer for YEEEEEARS and while there were some quarantine/pandemic-related setbacks/delays, today was the first day I was over it. I do not eat beef/pork, so I was drawn to Tunnicliff's back in the day because they have always made a turkey burger from ground meat. Today, I had a patty. A frozen patty. Not thrilled at all. The food still hit the spot because I was hungry and I understand the economy is karate chopping businesses, but I want the original turkey burger back!

The food was not bad, you could tell the bread wasn't the most fresh but it didn't ruin the meal. Unfortunately, the service was not the best. We were never checked on after sitting down and putting in our food order, when we wanted to get more drinks during our meal. The ambiance was your average pub, sports were on and I enjoyed the vibe. Just wish we had better service- not sure if I would come here again.

My office is next door to this spot but I've never checked it out until today. Soon as I set foot on their side of the sidewalk, the server told me I could not bring in the acai bowl that I bought at the farmers market going on right in front of them. I explained that I would be ordering food for two other people as well and that the bowl was almost done amd that I would sit outside by the people walking the market. She nodded and told me she would seat me. Immediately after she went inside, a woman in her senior age was loud and told me the same thing about my farmers market treat. I was almost done with the bowl and at that point was just waiting for my orders to be taken. Within 1 minute after the bidder sounding woman left, the busboy comes out and tells me the same thing very loud embarrassing me amongst other patrons. At that point I decided to leave and go across the street inside and spend my funds at the delicious crab cake stand. From other recent reviews looks like I wasn't going to miss much in terms of elevated eats. This business clearly does not participate in the uplifting of the Saturday market spirit unless it's for their gain.

We have eaten here a few times when in the area. Food is good. Good beer and wine selection. Great service. Lots of seating both inside and outside.

Again, I wish I could do a 3.5. Please don't let this 3 keep you from trying this place out. A group of five of us wanted a Capitol Hill experience so we decided to try this tavern. It was pretty dead at 6 pm when we arrived so we quickly got a table. The highlight of our entire visit was the waitress, very personable and helpful with drink suggestions and food suggestions. Probably of all of our food, the Ruben was the highlight. I personally tried the crab cakes---good flavor but I would have preferred them to be a bit crispier. They had at least three local beers on tap which is always a plus for me. Just remember, this is a tavern in the true sense of the word. (That's a compliment.) By the time we left (around 10 PM--so you see we did enjoy our time there!), the place was getting a little more crowded. I would like to visit here for lunch.

It's a pub! Busy with plenty of seats all the way through. Efficient service. Margarita pizza was lovely and fresh with plenty of tomatoes. Turkey burger was tasty and not too large to overface. Lots of choice in drinks too, with some nice beers available.

Best comfort food ever! Last year when beef stroganoff was added to the Sunday dine in menu, I asked if it could be added to Ubereats because it's my granny's favorite meal, but due to Alzheimer's she was to the point of being unable to dine in, and I cannot always get to the restaurant to pickup our to-go dinner, and my hamburger helper version is not acceptable to her They very kindly agreed meaning granny was able to enjoy her favorite until she passed this week. A very special thank you to the owner and entire staff for going above and beyond. It may not seem like much to many, but this meant the world to me in her last few months. Also, the margarita pizza is amazing (except I take the fresh tomatoes off). And for fun, tuna melt, chicken fingers, and the salads, and pretty much every thing they make is yummmmmmy!

The Food here hits every time! Love indulging in some Buffalo wings and Mozzarella sticks. The list goes on from amazing chilli to there wholesome pizzas and to die for sandwiches! Very attentive service! A great atmosphere when happy hour is under way and after. People bring there kids a lot due to the wide selection of food and large space able to hold many! If your in town or live up the block please visit!

Tunicliff's is one of my all-time favorite places to eat in Capitol Hill. Everything I have ordered is great. The chef here is excellent. I really love their comfort food like pork chop and mashed potatoes with veggies or their grilled cheese! Their baked brie plate is one of my favorite apps too. The atmosphere is so clean and comfortable and a great place to meet friends for a drink or dinner.

Great atmosphere. You can sit at the sports bar or further back is a little quieter and no TVs. Staff is on point and food was fresh and delicious. I had the fish and chips and it went well with a Bell's Amber Ale. Next time we're in DC we'll be back.

We had such an amazing experience here! We were visiting from Florida but were staying close to this location. my daughter (8) loved it so much that we ended up going there 3 times our whole trip! (she is very picky FYI) The staff was amazing and we even had the same waiter two of the three times. He was one of the best servers we've ever had and we are so grateful for his suggestions and patience. Definitely recommend this place for kids or just a night/day out!

It's a nice tavern we decided to go into to try and leave the heat on a hot day. We were able to grab a couple drinks and watch the baseball game that was on. There's plenty of beers on tap and they even had a cider which we decided to go for. The tavern has a pretty cool atmosphere and looks like it would be a nice place for dinner. Unfortunately, we had just eaten so didn't have a chance to try the food. It's a chill place to watch the game during the day. It's also located right near the Eastern Market. I seemed to have almost no phone service while I was here. You'll have to ask for the wifi code as it's not written anywhere.

Tunnicliffs is just the best. I have eaten there hundreds of times over many years and have never had a bad meal. Favorites are the Tunnicliffs pizza which is a white pizza with garlic, bacon, goat cheese and red peppers. The burgers and sandwiches are terrific. French onion soup is beyond amazing. Also the mashed potatoes are homemade and ridiculously good. The wings are legendary and practically a food group. But it is the staff that is Tunnicliffs truest asset! Oscar, Krista, Steph, Anthony, Mike and everyone else provides the best customer service! I use a wheelchair to get around, and the staff goes out of there to accommodate me moving chairs and tables as needed. You would think this would be typical at any place for someone in a wheelchair. That is simply not the case. Tunnicliffs excels in customer service! There is a covered tent with heaters/fans/ removable walls as the weather dictates. Truly recommend for great neighborhood pub.

Not over priced or pretentious. Just a fun spot to eat after work with colleagues. Can't say the drinks are anything fancy but the service was good and it's not super loud so yon hear. Took a cute picture outside.

9 years later and I'm back! The food at Tunnicliff's is the best tavern food I've had in a very long time. There's a comfort in coming back to a place you enjoyed and a reason it's always packed! Happy Hour is from 3-7 daily, offering a variety of drinks on specials. The last few visits we tried a few new menu items. The mozzarella sticks are really good! The breading is homemade and the cheese is the stringiest I've experienced in long time! Next on our taste test was the Buffalo chicken salad. It was crisp and refreshing, something that's been a staple for a while, and it tastes so good. There's a hint of blue cheese mixed into the mozzarella and marinara- an instant hit! It's clear that the Buffalo sauce they create here is unmatched; it's a bit sweet and a bit spicy all at the same time. The artichoke and spinach dip is so tasty, it's thick and creamy, with lots of chunky veggies and served with homemade flatbread sprinkled with cheese. Micah has been the bartender we've seen the most, he has a great sense of humor and is always sharing random facts, from music to sports to rules of the road. I can certainly say you can catch us here at least twice a week!

Service was abysmal. They seem irritated that you're even there. Food was bland and soggy. Ambiance was nothing amazing. Very blah all around. There are better spots for a cold drink and good food in DC.

Dont eat here. This place is rude and kick people out for not being Zionist. It should be a place to eat not a place that can't distinguish right from wrong.

Your average American restaurant. Had good flavors but the burger was a bit on the drier side. Not the best burger but edible.

I've been coming to this place 2 years now since I stumbled upon it while visiting Eastern Market. Since then, me and my friends I've gained from work have made it a lunch time spot. The happy hour is fairly priced, the people are cool, and the food is good. Can't go wrong with the wings.

The outdoor patio area is the perfect place to relax outside and watch the Eastern Market action!! We had margharita pizza and chicken wings; both were delicious. The wings had the ideal amount of sauce on them.

I love me a lowkey spot with good food and prices. Food gets to the point. Drinks are moderately priced. If you're trying to catch a quick inexpensive meal, this is the place. Kids and adults will be satisfied.

I meandered into Tunnicliff's on a September Saturday visit to DC's Eastern Market, where I had gone to find The World's Best Pancakes (read my separate reviews for all the news). Some co-workers were coming to join me for brunch and I was drawn in by Tunnicliff's promise of $5 Bloody Marys. Coming from a place where the $5 cocktail is pretty much a thing of the past, I was more than happy to drink one (or was it two) of these bad boys while waiting for my friends. Soon they arrived and, after a bit of a wait, we were seated outside. They ordered breakfast and I shared a breakfast pizza, which was mighty tasty, though since I'd already eaten pancakes I wasn't super hungry. While the cocktails and food were good, the service was a little slow here. I'd definitely go back though!

My friend/ associate and I had lunch here today. He had the chicken, I had the pizza. Both were very fresh and perfectly cooked. Service was perfect as well.

The food is great. I really enjoyed the Texas burger. Would definitely recommend if you are in the area and want burgers, pizza, sandwiches or anything else they serve. Service was quick and the servers were nice. The restaurant is really nice looking and has a nice feeling to it. There is indoor and outdoor seating.

This is a bar in Eastern Market with great food. I have been going there for several years now and have never had a bad experience. It is open early for brunch on the weekends (very good) and for dinner (excellent). Their cheeseburgers cannot be beat. Their Reubens are a close second. For breakfast/brunch, they have omelettes; eggs benedict. It is not much to look at from the front, but it is very nice inside. On the waitstaff - they are unusually nice for DC. Tunnicliff's has the food quality of Old Ebbitt but with nicer waitstaff.

I've walked past Tunicliff's Tavern about a thousand times and decided to come in with a friend for lunch the other day. The inside decor is themed like a tavern with a dose of classic American paintings and furniture. I ordered the breakfast burger, which comes with L&T and a sunny-side up egg (sunny-side up is not my ministry, but I went with it), cooked medium well. It was cooked properly and, while a tad on the dry side, was fine. The fries were typical fries. My friend had the breakfast burrito, which he thought was fine. Service was also OK. On the whole, typical tavern food but nothing to write home about.

Strolled in after the street market since they had a sign outside for $5 Bloody Mary's. They offer indoor and outdoor covered seating during coivd. The outdoor seating is covered and almost like an extension of inside. They do have heaters offered for outside seated guests. We did not need to make a reservation there was plenty of room inside we were there around 1 pm on a Saturday. They have no options for vegans here except for fries so my mom and I ordered that. My veg boyfriend ordered a pizza. Their Bloody Mary's are premixed so they were not able to make them vegan since it included Worcestershire sauce. Overall was a good experience.

The dogs and drinks are always on point! Don't come expecting some haughty Michelin star experience - it's better than that. Just a chill, easy, neighborhood tavern with a great menu, awesome food, and amazing staff.

It was a beautiful morning in Washington DC and a few Yelper friends and I sat outside and enjoyed a nice breakfast here in DC. The location was the DC's Eastern Market and the crowd I was with was Yelp Elites from Bellingham and Spokane, Washington. Columbia, SC and myself. Tough crowd we are. But this place did an okay job, but it was not amazing like I had wanted it to be. They offer $5 Bloody Mary's and they were good but not the best. The worst part of this place is the service. They are slow! We first started inside because we did not know if we just wanted a drink. Then we moved outside after a while. When we asked if we could be moved outside. We got an awful rude response from the hostess. We had already settled up at the bar and were ready to go outside, but wow, Rude people are just bad. When we got outside we waited to take our order, and waited, and waited some more. Finally our server came by. I ordered the breakfast burrito and the ladies I was with got a breakfast pizza. The burrito was okay at best. Their pizza was a disgrace. It was just a normal pizza with 2 sunny side eggs on it. Overall this was a nice place to sit outside, but that was about it. I would not go back if in the DC area.

Found this place just ok! We had the crab cakes and chili, but neither were a "go out of the way" level. Might be a good place to just have a drink.

Was recommended this place by a fellow elite yelper, and one hell of a model American. Reviews seemed meh but I've never been one to shy away from a place based on reviews. I called ahead Bc the stiffs I traveled with are totally frozen in the city. There was no need for reservations so we used an Uber and headed over. When you walk in the bar is upfront. No real hostess station so I grabbed three menus and we sat down. First glance at menu the prices are on the higher end for what the food is- but we pressed on. There are a good amount of seats and tables in the back - which is where we sat and put out the vibe. Ordered a spinach and artichoke dip for an app to share- large bowl of it with flat bread points to dip. Overall it was tasty. The dip was well mixed and there wasn't any big chunks of artichoke to negotiate. Solid. For a meal I was between the fish and chips and the meatloaf. Opted for the fish and ordered a water. Seems like the beer prices are a little high but being from PGH who knows. Fish and chips were good- the batter didn't really stick to the fish that much and the batter in places was very soggy. Let them babies fry a little longer next time. Fries were good and the cole slaw was a spicy mayo version that came in a little cup. Overall I think it was a good meal. I would return.
