The Ride-Along Report: First Takes From Last Night’s Dinner - New York - The Infatuation

"What It Is: A casual Korean tapas spot in the East Village Perfect For: Affordable Group Dinner, Casual Weeknight Dinner, Birthdays Turntable Chicken Jazz’s East Village location has the same kind of perpetual-birthday-party feel as the original Midtown spot (think a Pitbull playlist and a wall covered in vinyl records), but with funkier Korean-ish tapas. That said, when we went to Tapanju this week, it seemed like everyone was still sharing the same chicken wings and color-changing beer towers they’re known for at their Midtown spot. And you should do the same. The food isn’t the best, but the place is an overall fun spot for your coworker’s going away dinner that you planned last-minute. The Verdict: Good to know about for an affordable East Village partytime dinner." - Hannah Albertine, Bryan Kim, Katherine Lewin, Hillary Reinsberg, Chris Stang

Tapanju Turntable Review - East Village - New York - The Infatuation

"Much like Turntable Chicken Jazz in Midtown, eating at the East Village location feels like you’ve accidentally crashed multiple birthday parties. There’s a wall covered in vinyl records, a (maybe fake) DJ booth, and likely several big groups sharing chicken wings and a color-changing beer tower. The menu is a mix of vaguely Korean small plates like miso mac & cheese or korean BBQ pork, but we advise you stick with the soy garlic fried chicken. Come here with friends for an affordable dinner that could also double as a last-minute celebration." - Hannah Albertine

Chicken and rock? That was my first question to myself—and a bar inside? But yes, it’s real. Turntable Chicken Rock is all about crispy Korean fried chicken and always-cool rock music. The vibe is laid-back and retro, with vintage audio gear and neon lights setting the mood. It’s a great place to hang out, eat, and enjoy some seriously good tunes. A fun, unexpected combo that totally works.

This is such a cool bar. We came in for drinks while waiting for a reservation nearby. We just happened to notice the bar sign. No lie ... We were a little skeptical from the outside. It literally looks like a hole in the wall. And then we walked in and realized this is one of the chillest bar vibes we have ever experienced. We were there during happy hour which was a plus. If we are in the area again, I would 100% come here and stay longer. The staff is incredibly friendly and the atmosphere totally my style.

Google
Went on a Sunday afternoon. There was 1 person at the bar and 2 ladies having lunch together. Service was sloooow. Almost felt like the server prepared our meals while walking around taking care of everything else. Food was good/great tho. Chicken was crispy, light and juicy Ordered the chicken plain, then with the two other sauces. Also ordered the spicy tuna roll as they were out of salmon.

Google
Great spot for drinks that specializes in korean food and excels in other entrees. I recommend the fried chicken drumsticks and lychee martini / pisco pineapple. The floor manager Clara was very professional and courteous. Highly recommend for after work drinks and snacks.

First thing is the chicken is really good as well as the portion size of it as well as the sides. Service was attentive and they did their job The drinks there have beautiful presentation and were delicious.

Google
Love this spot in the city!!! Its close to my office so I come here a lot with my coworkers after work for chicken & beer - location is really convenient. Great food, excellent vibe and superb service! Inside decorations are really cute too. Korean fried chicken is usually our go-to item on the menu, but kimchi fried rice and udon is my favorite! Will always be my favorite spot and will continue to come!!! :)

Google
Had dinner here and it was awesome!! Fried chicken is really good - I highly recommend✨ We also had the hamburger, skewer, and tteokbokki with cheese. All delicious 😋 The staff was super friendly and made sure we had a great time. The place has a cozy vibe, perfect for a chill meal. If you love Korean food or want to try something new, check this place out

Google
1. Completely empty but, still took me 40 minutes to leave with my my food. 2. Chicken wasn't well cooked or seasoned. 3. Ordered a drink, never got it. The bartenders had a nice time chilling though, and the drink found its way onto my check no problems. 4. Mandatory 20% tip, even for a party of 1 ordering takeout. Ran to over $40 for a small chicken and salad, they still left room for an additional tip. What a mess. Learn from my mistakes and go somewhere better in K Town.

Yelp
Amazing service and delicious food!! Will be back The fries were the best I have had in NYC with a great spicy mayo sauce. The beer selection is great. The best part about this place is the amazing service. 10/10. Highly recommend

Yelp
A combination between Asian fusion and American. This hip place looks like it is underground, but it's just off the main street. We stopped in for a couple of espresso martinis but all of the food that passed us looked delicious! The restaurant was packed so the service was not the best.

Yelp
This place had a pretty good vibe too it and they had much more than just Korean fried chicken- though they did have a lot of that. Service was a a tad bit slow for the night, but we weren't in any hurry so it wasn't a bother.

Yelp
Chicken is perfectly crispy and flavored, we got two large combos of soy garlic and spicy. I wish I took more pics of the delicious creamy corn and twisters and also the rice cake but our large party devoured it all - testament to the taste. Loved the ambience. Even the bathroom was decked floor to ceiling with old album covers. The music selection was top tier. Service was excellent, they looked after us and even gave us free round of shots! This is my second visit at their chain and we will be coming back.

Yelp
Such a fun spot in NYC's Ktown! I love that they have something for everyone. We tried the twister potato, veggie japche, fried chicken and popcorn chicken, and the angry salmon roll! The sushi was delicious for it being such a small part of the menu. Would definitely come back.

Yelp
The Good: The Food, Reasonable Prices, Album Covers The Bad: Inattentive Staff, Slow Service, Undisclosed compulsory 20% Gratuity The Ugly: Christmas Music instead of Rock Starting with 5 stars. Of all the places we went this was the only place that had a compulsory gratuity. Any place that has a compulsory 20% gratuity, doesn't disclose it, and then also has a spot on the final ticket for an additional gratuity is an automatic fail. I don't know if it's just for the tourists but it's wrong and we will not go back. Minus 5 stars. The 3 stars for the good food and and cool vibe (when it's not Christmas). Minus 1 star. They switched their playlist to a bunch of Christmas music, the only song remotely associated to rock being "Jingle Bell Rock". This totally blew the vibe. We were seated quickly in an area near the front of the restaurant, a row of tables near the restrooms. I would not recommend these seats because people are always walking by. Instead ask to be seated in the back where there is more space. Drink orders were taken and we got them quickly. We made the mistake of not ordering food when the drinks came and ended up waiting for 15 minutes to put in a food order. We ordered fried dumplings, small half and half chicken combo (which consisted of 6 pretty large pieces of chicken) and the bulgogi roll. The dumplings came out first and were not very warm but they tasted OK. The chicken and Bulgogi came out together and they were both good. Fortunately for us the couple sitting next to us, with whom were were conversing, noticed the compulsory gratuity and mentioned it to us or we would have been paying extra gratuity.

Yelp
Good Korean Fried Chicken in a fun, casual atmosphere. Had the Drums and Wings combo which was solid and the Chicken Sandwich was also very good. The Chopped Galbi Steak and the Japche were okay while the Truffle Fries were addictive.

Yelp
My husband and I here came here late on a Friday night. We were able to find seats and there was a lot of cool decor including vinyls. I ordered japchae and my husband ordered a salmon roll. We both enjoyed our meals here. I would come back to try other food items.

Yelp
I came here the day after it opened. Would have liked wet naps for the chicken and possibly some dipping sauce. Overall pretty good

Yelp
Atmosphere (5/5): This gastropub had such a cool vibe with retro music themed décor. On the second floor, there looks to be a DJ setup. It's kind of dark inside but at least it wasn't very loud. I was surprised on how empty it was during peak dinner hours! Service (5/5): Since there were very few parties dining, the service was great. We got our drinks quickly and had our food out in a jiffy. Food Overall Salmon Tartare (4/5): It was a nice portion of spicy salmon. It could have used a few more pieces of the large wonton-like chips. The flavor was pretty good. Wings (4/5): We ordered half soy and half spicy. The spicy is pretty spicy! The wings had a nice outer crunch and great flavor! $9 pint beers, pitchers, and $65 towers

Yelp
We ordered Bulgogi roll and a Fried Chicken sandwich. Both of us enjoyed our meal. Staff was attentive and provided great recommendations.

Yelp
Love getting their fried chicken wings here. Crispy and delicious. We got 12 pieces and did half and half (half soy garlic and half spicy). Spicy was too spicy for me but I have a weak tolerance for spicy. For apps, we got the Cheese Sticks and Trufffle Mac n Cheese. Cheese Sticks were good and would recommend those. Max n cheese was too watery.

Yelp
Turntable never disappoints! We came for soju/drinks and wings. It was perfect for our group of 8. Shout out to DJ!!!! He's the best.

Yelp
I've always been a fan of the myriad of Turntables in the city. Their food and service is usually always great. The latest time I came to this Turntable was a Saturday night around 7:30 PM with a group of three of people. We were having trouble finding a place to eat since everything was so overbooked in K Town. We called when we were a few blocks away and thankfully the person who answered the call saved us a table, so we were able to sit down as soon as we arrived. Service was quick and efficient. We ordered and shared between the group: -GARLIC SEAFOOD FRIED RICE: Great flavor and well stir fried rice. Definitely a nice item -TWISTER: I loved the twister the last time I tried it at another Turntable. This time the flavor was still nice but it was not as crispy as the previous Turntable and felt more oily, but I still enjoyed it. -OYSTER: They had a special for $2/oyster and it was wonderful. We got a dozen oysters and they were all fresh and delicious. The sizes differed widely between each oyster but we still enjoyed it a lot. -FRIED CHICKEN: Of course you can never forget the fried chicken at a Turntable. Great flavor and nice, juicy, crispy chicken. I've only ever tried the soy garlic but it's my favorite. Always a hit! All in all, a great place for a nice meal to chat up with friends.

Yelp
I love to come to this place for their insanely delicious juicy fried chicken ! I don't know how they do it, but it's the best fried chicken I ever had! I highly recommend coming here. The ambiance, interior and food is amazing and very inviting. The staff is super friendly and nice.
google avatar

Melanie W.

Yelp
Really convenient to my hotel and great chicken wings. I sat at the bar and had a lychee martini that was quite tasty if a little sweet. I love the crunchy Korean style fried chicken. Service was good. Will be back to try something new next time.
google avatar

Yelp
A really chill place to get some chicken wings and drinks. Everyone is so nice and the service is top notch. Food is really good, perfectly made every single time. I've never had any issues. It's nearby ktown so you can get drinks after dinner too.
google avatar

Yelp
My friend and I visited this Turntable location and was disappointed with the service we received. We had to flag the staff down every time we needed something (and twice they didn't do what we had requested). It seems that the servers were paying more attention to the two tables of Korean patrons sitting next us, even though they were seated after us. The icing on the cake was when I was reviewing my credit card statement a few weeks later and I realized that they overcharged me for my bill by illegally adding more tip to the total. Thankfully I kept my receipt and was able to dispute the charge with my credit card company. Stay away from this business!
google avatar

Peter S.

Yelp
Delicious fried chicken! It came out crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. For spice level my friend and I got mild and it was actually mild. We also ordered mozzarella sticks as an appetizer and it was also crispy on the outside and gooey cheese on the inside. This place knows how to fry food and bring it out quickly. As for the service, we had no issues. We were seated promptly, our food came in a timely manner, and our waiter checked in on us regularly. A tip if you're going on a hot summer day - ask to be seated in the back where it's cooler and you can actually feel the AC. If you sit in the front close to the door, you can barely feel a temperature difference.

Yelp
Came in for happy hour--love the vibe! Food is delish. The best part--our server was awesome
google avatar

Chloe M.

Yelp
Delicious chicken, even greater truffle fries! We stopped by here while waiting for the KISS final show at MSG and were very pleasantly surprised by the ambiance and affordability of the beer. Would definitely go again.
google avatar

Yelp
Staff were super attentive! Interesting decor! Food was good! I like this twist with the spam masubi being fried but I wish the spam was saltier like it is right out the can. Calamari and fried chicken were excellent!
google avatar

Yelp
Love Korean food and their fried chicken is no exception. Food is juicy and flavorful. Great place to go with a group. Beer, chicken and good company is a great night. Service was great. No complaints.

Yelp
Was hungry and bumped into this Korean fried chicken place . Being in Korea town , I know there are a lots of fried chicken places . Tried this for the first time .. Wasnt crowded much , so I felt even better :) ordered Japanese draft beers and it was awesome ... I really thought of eating spicy fried rice but it wasn't available for lunch. It's only for dinner. This place doesn't look like a lunch place . I'm sure evenings are filled up here ... ordered Korean fried chicken and it was awesome ! Wasn't that spicy and had to get an additional serving of sriracha sauce . Very nice and smiling waitress and very good service .. overall I liked this place !

Yelp
This is by far my favorite Turntable location among all of them (and I believe I've been to them all, including the original Turntable Mad for Chicken). I'm not sure how their chicken manages to be crispier and juicier than the others, but my husband and I sincerely believe this is the case. The sides are delicious as well, especially the cheese corn (best cheese pull ever). The ambiance is energetic and fun--there are photos of so many different musicians/bands everywhere and a wall of records on the second level. They generally play a diverse array of rock music spanning multiple decades, which adds a nostalgic element to your dining experience and makes you want to stay longer than you should. :) I also want to add that the service is always friendly and attentive, whether you're at a table or at the bar (we've had a blast up at the bar and the bartenders have all been great). This location closed for a while due to the pandemic, which was devastating, and we were disappointed with a couple of experiences at other Turntable locations, so I'm very happy to see it reopen and thrive. Looking forward to returning soon!

Eve Y.

Yelp
Love this classic rock vibe and the food is actually really great! Service was friendly and very attentive as well :)

Yelp
Food and drinks were fantastic (cocktail soju is a must). Just make sure to ask if there are any ingredients you don't like cooked with the food. Service was okay as the server made a few errors with our meal.

Yelp
The best chicken joint in Ktown. Great food and friendly service. Amazing vibe as well. Strongly recommended

Yelp
So... We have been to Turntable Chicken and Rock about 20 times now and have NEVER been disappointed. It is, hands down, the best Korean fried chicken in NY. Keep in mind there is also Turntable chicken LP - great for karaoke, and TC jazz, but the menus differ and the food is better at TC rock. Every bite is followed by a satisfying ahh. Aside from the delicious fried chicken, the spicy seafood ramen is incredible. They also make the best (truly spicy) margarita I have ever had. Most are simply a margarita with a jalapeño slice, but this one tastes fabulous and has a heat level that really works. Sean and Jae run the place and they are really friendly and make the experience even better. They always greet us warmly make us feel like we are coming home. Don't Miss Turntable Chicken Rock!
google avatar

Stephanie S.

Yelp
You can't be a fan of Korean food and never been to the Turntable restaurants. Each restaurant has a theme. The vibes here are rock but the other one is Jazz. It's a fun spot for dinner with a group so I love eating here whenever in the city. We recently had dinner reservations for 4 and were warmly greeted upon arrival and quickly seated. Our server was friendly and helpful. We decided to order 40 wings, a mix of soy garlic and hot wings. The sauce and wing quality here is soo good. We also split an order of the kimchi fried rice and fried dumplings. Everything was absolutely delicious and hit the spot. This was the perfect amount of food for our group. The beer tower was a hit. Other guests kept stopping by and asking about it. If you've never been here, I highly recommend stopping here for good food and drinks.
google avatar

Sally W.

Yelp
This location is much more chill than their other one! 2 of my friends and I walked in on a Friday and were seated immediately. Food and vibes were great!

Yelp
Man, I really loved this bar. Just a few blocks from the Empire State Building. I'd seen it on a previous trip. Wasn't able to get there, but made a mental note to try it next time I was in the area. A little touristy, maybe. Feels kind of upscale. Entire bar was music themed. Lots of band memorabilia. Really cool record related items. Bathrooms were so cool. Not only very clean, but interesting with band posters. We all had drinks. Service was so good and friendly. It was about half full at 9pm,but it was about to get really busy as we were leaving. Wanted to stay longer, but had more walking to do.

Eugene P.

Yelp
The interior is spacious good for groups. Fried chicken is solid and service is friendly/attentive.
google avatar

Sean Y.

Yelp
I never knew this turntable existed! I've been to the other two but this is my favorite because of the music . The design is most similar to the jazz location. The food is the same, which is to say it's very good. If you ever can't get into one of the other two, definitely take a 5 min walk and check this one out. It seems to not be as busy as the others. As always the fried chicken did not disappoint. Perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. This time I also got the mac and cheese. It was like fancy version of velveeta. Very solid. The biggest surprise was the drink! It was a berry vodka that came in a cute cup (picture attached). Absolutely delicious and you definitely get your moneys worth. An amazing way to end the work week.

Soo P.

Yelp
This is my go-to spot! I absolutely love the food and drinks, and the happy hour is unbeatable. The staff are always friendly and welcoming. I'll definitely be coming back!

Nnedi E.

Yelp
GREAT SERVICEEE FROM MY BOY DJ!! And the food slaps too. We ordered the chicken wings were crispy, huge and hottt

Dale L.

Yelp
I love the atmosphere and ambiance! Cool place and great music! But why why why would you have Happy Hour 12-4 What strange hours . You are in midtown why wouldn't you offer it when all the office workers leave work . Every other bar offers 4-7 or 4-8 or even longer . No wonder it was dead at 5 pm because everyone in the area , 1000's of workers are at all the other happy hour bars Wake up management... unless you don't want business .
google avatar

Julia P.

Yelp
Korean fried chicken with retro flair paired with their signature cocktails for only $12 for happy hour?! My happy haven. My favorite cocktails are their Chile margarita; tequila infused in Thai chili peppers so it's not for the weak but if you can handle the spice this is a must try!! Ginger martini and cucumber martinis are also AMAZZZZING as I don't like my cocktails to be too sweet or sour, these are refreshing and the taste? Immaculate. For sweeter drinks I'd say their sangria fusion is solid and also their lavender fairy... isn't the name enough to order one?!
google avatar

Joseph L.

Yelp
Stopped by for a quick bite and I loved the vibe of this place. Odered rolls and fried chicken, that were superb. Beautiful place, definitely coming back again!
google avatar

Veronika K.

Yelp
Been there twice. Their cocktail are really good! Good was tasty also. Just the service should be a bit better. Stuff are slow with orders. Last time I went there with two of my friends and they got a mouse dead on the floor and I had to tell them to clean it! Unbelievable.... I don't think so I will ever order food there or if I go there. I know it might happens / New York but common! Watch it if you put out on the corner where clients might seat strap for mouses and if there is any..... they apologized of course but still .. I won't forget it so easy.
google avatar

Zinua K.

Yelp
Very nice. Good mood Crispy chicken was the best. Service was soso. It was pretty fast.
google avatar

Sadie V.

Yelp
Been here a few times and was super happy about finding this place, but unfortunately the when I came here yesterday I noticed mouse traps with a MOUSE on it! OMG it was absolutely horrific- don't think I will ever eat here again. Very disappointed about this!

Carrie F.

Yelp
This place is a new favorite ! I've been to several other korean restaurants in New York City but turntable is easily one of the best ones I've been to . The food, drinks, ambiance, and service ..all on point. All the servers were super attentive and caring. My friends and I were blown away. This place exceeded my expectations. It's a one of a kind spot . 100% will be returning.
google avatar

Nicole J.

Yelp
Went here on a hunch that they had reservations available. Woooooowww!!! I took 2 picky children and a refined taste husband. EVERYTHING was delicious!! For food: udon noodles-delicious! Risotto-Yummy! Chicken wings -Yum!! I didn't get to take pictures because we devoured everything. We had low expectations but this place by far is amazing! Oh and the drinks! The lychee martini was delicious!! Do yourself a favor and check out this place if you are hungry and thirsty!
google avatar

Grace K.

Yelp
I loved my experience here at this newly renovated location! This locations is a retro bar with great cocktails and drinks, but their food is also great. They have amazing chicken, but they also changed their whole menu and everything is truly amazing!! I would say it's a take on Korean fusion including traditional Korean dishes, sushi rolls, burgers, classic appetizers, and more! It's a great place to have some drinks with friends and the vibe and atmosphere is the best part ! Whether you order their Korean fried chicken or tapas or just some apps to pair with your drinks, you will not be disappointed! Will be back very soon :-)
google avatar

Regina L.

Yelp
Came during lunch on a weekday and no crowd! I'm a huge fan of the vibe here -- records are lined up to the ceiling and it's dimly lit and cozy. My friend and I both had the creme udon with chicken from their lunch special list and it was good! Homey, lots of veggies, not a ton of cream. I'll be back to try their wings and drinks at happy hour!
google avatar

Sandar S.

Yelp
Came here for my hump day dinner. They had a lucky draw spin outside the restaurant. I won $20 yayyyyyyy We ordered soy garlic and hot and spicy wings. One of the best wings I have ever had. That's what they are famous for. Right! Soju bombs are okay. The cocktails are awesome. Had enjoyed quiet Wednesday dinner.

Jeong L.

Yelp
I've been to the other Turntable locations countless times but recently tried Rock and it is now my go-to spot! Literally the day after our first time there, my friends and I were planning our next visit. We got to try a good chunk of the menu and everything was so yum! And the staff is very friendly and attentive, which is huge for me. I've been there only twice so far, but my experience was consistently awesome, and given the staff, I can't imagine it being anything but. And I like that it doesn't get too packed, which makes it extra special esp in ktown!
google avatar

Dania Daniella K.

Yelp
You would never expect what you get when you walk through these doors. Rock music brings you in but the food makes you come back. If you haven't had KOREAN fried chicken, the real KFC, you need to try it. It is how chicken should always be prepared. Super fun on the weekends with beer towers and bottles of soju. Come be korean for a night lol. Absolutely delish.
