The 22 Best Chinese Restaurants In London

"A warm meat and onion pastry for those chilly winter days, a cold refreshing noodle salad for the warmer ones, and steamed lamb dumplings for all the times in between. Turpan is perfect for anytime you need a homely meal in central. The small Uyghur spot on Great Russell Street is the kind of casual place you pop into after work with a group of friends to split a big plate chicken, or on your own to inhale a plate of thick leghmen noodles. It matters less how you use this restaurant and more that you finish with the nutty honey cake and Uyghur tea when you do. " - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, rianne shlebak, daisy meager

The Best Halal Restaurants in London | Where to Eat Halal in London | Eater London

"Turpan is a pleasant respite from the hell that has become Tottenham Court Road/New Oxford Street. Located on the somewhat quieter Great Russell Street, Turpan is a Uyghur restaurant serving up the increasingly familiar dishes of “big plate chicken,” leghmen, and lamb polu to proudly savvy Londoners. If the time is available, the usually-less-than 25 minute wait for the pitir manta, hefty, fragrant steamed lamb dumplings is worth it, as are the cumin lamb skewers and cold, marinated beef tongue slices. If the weather is friendly, try sitting outside." - Maazin Buhari

The Uyghur dishes were a delightful culinary experience. The seasoning was expertly balanced, enhancing the natural flavors of the ingredients. Each bite was a burst of deliciousness, leaving a pleasant warmth on the palate. The textures were varied and satisfying, creating a truly memorable meal. I highly recommend trying these expertly prepared dishes. The tea offers a truly exceptional experience. The delicate leaves unfurl beautifully in hot water, releasing a captivating aroma. The flavor is nuanced and refreshing, a welcome change from ordinary bagged teas. It's evident that this tea is crafted with care, from the careful selection of leaves to the elegant packaging. This is a delightful tea to savor and share.

This was our first time trying Uyghur food - such unique and exciting flavour profiles! We ordered Marjan Chop (homemade chopped noodles), Goshnan (bread with minced lamb), Chochure (minced lamb ravioli with soup), and lamb and chicken skewers. The spices in all the dishes were incredible - we especially loved the lamb skewers! The Chochure soup was outstanding as well - we spent ages trying to figure out what ingredients created such amazing flavours.

We had the Leghmen & Ugre (beef soup). Soup was delicious 11/10. Leghmen fantastic also, you can indeed feel the freshly made hand-pulled noodles, I found the portion of beef to be very little inside the dish but it’s expensive these days so all good. Dumplings were okay, could improve on taste slightly. Overall the experience was fantastic. I recommend you to visit this very costly Uyghur restaurant. The staff were ever so kind To let me pray in their store room, for which I am extremely grateful for. 11/10

Absolutely planning on coming back here again. The food is so good, reminding me of home. This was my first time, eating Uyghur food, and I was not disappointed. Every dish tasted wonderful and was spiced perfectly. These plates were definitely made to share because the portion sizes are generous. This experience was definitely worth the money and time it took us to travel here.

Really crowded when we arrived at dinner time. Rice pudding was the best thing we ate in our trip to London, it was on house as their apology for the food delay, which is understandable. Noodles was also amazing.

Fantastic food with distinctive flavours. Food not greasy. We had Fried Rice Noodles, Ügre and Uyghur Kawap both lamb and chicken. The fried noodles had a delicate spicy base sauce. The noodles are thick like udon, and whether you have chicken or beef, both tasted great with flavours soaking into the meat. The Ügre is a simple broth, light and delicate. The noodles are fine with some vegetables. The Kawap were fantastic. Both chicken and lamb were tender, and had an unusual seasoning of curry flavours and herbs. We really enjoyed the food and hope to come back. Service could be a little more speedy.

Our first time trying Uyghur food and what a great impression! We ordered the beef tripe (qerin) and chopped noodles (marjan chop). Both were delicious - the flavours were both bold and comforting! Bouncy noodles and fresh ingredients. We were then recommended the rice pudding and honey cake for dessert. Both were unlike anything we had ever tried before! Both light and not too sweet with amazing flavour and texture. Would definitely recommend to anyone. 5 stars!!!

After a wonderful day exploring the British Museum, my friend and I decided to break our fast at Turban Uyghur Restaurant in London. This was our first meal of the day, and we were warmly welcomed by the staff, who were not only professional and efficient but also thoughtful enough to provide us with dates for iftar. Their kindness and hospitality set the perfect tone for the meal ahead. This was my first time trying Uyghur cuisine, and I was absolutely blown away by the flavors and quality of the food. The dishes were rich in spices, yet perfectly balanced, showcasing the unique fusion of Central Asian, Middle Eastern, and Chinese influences that define Uyghur food. We started with lamb skewers (kawaplar), which were grilled to perfection—juicy, tender, and infused with a smoky aroma. The seasoning, featuring cumin, chili, and garlic, gave the skewers an incredible depth of flavor. Next, we had laghman, a traditional hand-pulled noodle dish served with stir-fried vegetables and tender beef in a flavorful, slightly spicy sauce. The noodles were chewy and fresh, absorbing the rich sauce beautifully. For the main course, we enjoyed polo (Uyghur-style pilaf), a fragrant rice dish cooked with slow-braised lamb, carrots, and raisins, which added a subtle sweetness that complemented the savory meat. The dish was both hearty and comforting. We also tried gooshnaan, a delicious Uyghur meat-filled pastry with a crispy golden crust and juicy, well-seasoned minced beef inside. Everything was cooked to perfection, and the flavors were authentic and deeply satisfying. The portion sizes were generous, making it a great spot for sharing dishes with family and friends. Overall, this was an incredible experience—a perfect way to break our fast with delicious, soulful food. The restaurant is excellent for families, friends, and couples looking for a warm, inviting atmosphere and a taste of authentic Uyghur cuisine. For food lovers and anyone eager to explore Central Asian flavors, this restaurant is a must-visit! May Allah bless and protect the Uyghur Muslims in their homeland. I will definitely be coming back to try more dishes!
