Where to Eat and Drink in Dripping Springs

"The Dripping Springs brewery’s most popular beer is perhaps the McConauheze, a hazy IPA named after one of Texas’s notable celebrities Matthew McConaughey. The rest of the short yet strong brew lineup at the tasting room is rounded out with small-batch options. On-site restaurant the Buffalo Nickel serves up beer-adjacent foods like burgers and more. There are indoor and outdoor dine-in areas." - Erin Russell, Nadia Chaudhury

The 13 Best Restaurants & Bars In Dripping Springs 2024

"Twisted X works well for an afternoon stop along Dripping Springs’ unofficial beer trail. They’ve got a large, mostly-shaded patio and lawn with picnic tables, as well as a few pockets of chairs that’ll make you feel more like you’re hanging out in a backyard rather than at a brewery. Until you make your way to the tap room, that is. They brew a bunch of styles, but we generally find ourselves gravitating towards something light and refreshing, like the gulf kolsch or Austin lager. A live-fire restaurant called Buffalo Nickel is also coming here soon." - nicolai mccrary, anne cruz

Nice guy tending. Allowed a taste of a couple beers. Nice outdoor area (also for kids to run around). Not a lot of room inside. Only issue I see is there are very few selections of beer and they are okay. Nothing really worth mentioning.

Stopped by unplanned on a Sunday afternoon while heading home from Austin. Bartenders were very friendly and helpful in explaining their different beers and finger foods. There weren't any food trucks this day, so tried the Fat Boy and Turkey Wrap for some bites and the Nutty Brown for a drink. The Nutty Brown was a nice Dunkelweizen with a strong taste of peanut butter. The Fat Boy was surprisingly good as it was cream cheese with a nice kick to it. On the enclosed patio, there was live music and a few sitting benches. Outside, there were several sitting areas and games to play. It was a cold day and I was just passing through, so didn't stay long, but will come back when things warm up. Definitely seemed like a nice way to enjoy some drinks, try the food trucks, and listen to live music.

Google
What a great spot to spend the afternoon. I really like the transition from indoors to outdoors wit the the roof and misters and sun cover. Live music on a Sunday afternoon. Good beer (I personally favor the IPA and Double IPA). Lots of cute dogs. A food truck in the back. They’ve hit the formula just right for a nice afternoon

Google
Great vibe, lots of seating (mostly outside). Plenty of shaded spots and plenty of mist machines. Good beer. Very chill spot to just get out of the house and outside to relax with friends. If you’ve got an airstream, there are about 10 camp spots within a stones throw (literally 40 yards and it’s all airstreams :)). Affluent area and not a place for college bs, its a nice place to relax. Occasional live music. Open guest WiFi. Decent amount of parking but I could see them running out - so share a ride!

Google
One of a few breweries in the area. The property is very large, quaint, and quiet. Picturesque spot in hill country. Lots of seating outside with some options inside. A small tap list but everything was good. Most people were bringing their own food/snacks they did have a few small bites to choose from but no food trucks on site. Staff were friendly and attentive and went table to table to check on everyone which is hard to find these days.

Google
It was really fun stopping here while we were visiting Dripping Springs this Sunday. We thought we would just stop for a quick snack and ended up staying a few hours. I had the Gulf Kolsch and my wife had the McConauhaze. The food was also great. The twisted fries and the fish tacos are worth trying when you stop here.

Google
This brewery has it - amazing beers and a great vibe inside and out! Not too far outside of Austin, this was a great stop for a visitor from out of state. Found my personal new favorite Hazy of all time - McConauhaze! Had a great time enjoying flight with a great patio area for a group! Highly recommend!!

Google
If I had to watch Michigan lose to Ohio State, I’m glad it was here. This brewery has an awesome vibe and great beer. The live music was actually really good, and while that may change from day to day, I doubt the good times and good people do. Play a game of corn hole, compete in giant jenga, or just enjoy the sunshine with a few close friends. You really can’t go wrong at Twisted X Brewing.

Yelp
What a fun spot! Was lucky to get a flight of beers and you must get the pretzel and beer cheese. We got the first one and instantly ordered another. The portion of cheese is excellent. So fun to sit outside and enjoy the nice weather!

Yelp
We have enjoyed the couple of visits that we have come here! The second time better than the first! There is indoor and outdoor seating, high seating inside though but nice and cool. Yard games and plenty of social fun. You walk inside and order at the counter, each time the twisted x crew are polite. I enjoy their cider and hope to get it next time. Nice, ice cold drinks!

Yelp
We ran into this brewery at their booth at the Fredericksburg Beer Festival in June and had to come check the brewery out for ourselves. We love this place and the McConauhaze beer is stellar! Cool vibe with a fab outdoor patio and yard games like corn hole . We got a cider with a guava shooter inside. Yummy! Check this place out.

Yelp
The bartender Micah was great to talk with, very informative and personable. We didn't order any grub, but I think they had nachos on the menu. The joint had typical old and current craft brew memorabilia laced on the walks, cool outdoor heated & screened in patio, out of sight carved tree in back, and a nice little lounge area with cornhole. Tried their blonde beer called Gulf Kolsch, it was very good, but my favorite go to is the McConawhaze ipa., with its cloudy appearance and multi-fruit and hoppy flavors. Great drive to get here to Dripping Springs!

Yelp
Very chill place and the beer was great. The guys who served us were incredibly friendly and patient. We sat inside during our visit but the outside area looked like a great vibe. We definitely would have gone back if we were in town longer.

Yelp
Our friend who is a beer judge took us here. I'm not a beer drinker , but I enjoyed the samples of beer. And the scenic drive. If you're a beer drinker and enjoy craft beers definitely a place to hang out .Seating is picnic bench style and cozy.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, beer, & food. Took my pups to Twisted X the day before my birthday to celebrate. Love the pitmaster & the hazy ipa. Lots of seating, great food truck. 10 out of 10 would recommend you his place for a sunny spring day.

Yelp
We come to Twisted X Brewing at least once a year when we are out in the hill country area for Barks 4 Beers. They always have new beers on tap (this time was a jalepeno lager) which was good but not really are style. Their most popular beer and now one of Austin's biggest and best seller brew is the Mcconauhaze. That beer is an amazing hazy ipa that is comparable to Pint House Brewings Electric Jelly Fish. Don't miss out on this brewery if you are in the area and looking for some good tasty ones!
google avatar

Deya Z.

Yelp
Decent selection with okay seating. During our trip, a HUGE party bus arrived and what was a chill Saturday afternoon seemingly erupted into chaos. This really jaded my review and brought it down from 4 to 3 stars. I can't really blame the servers for that experience but it would have been helpful if the large group could have been directed a bit more to allow others space to order. The beer itself is decent, as I tried the Bock on tap. They have some snacks to much on though the food was disappointing. We got the guac which was literally squeezed out of a bag...not the most appetizing.
google avatar

Yelp
This place has a fun atmosphere with a large connect 4 and other games for you to play while you are visiting. They have a variety of beer choices, where some are very different than other places. You can try a flight, but each one cost a different amount or just have a pint. They will also give you a sample to try if you are torn between a few. I did a sample of Fuego, Austin Lager, and Salty Chihuahua. I also had a pint of their lager. The Fuego was a Jalapeno Pils that had just the right amount of heat to it to taste the jalapeno. It was rather good, but I could not do more than a flight size or sample size. The Salty Chihuahua was a sea-salt and lime flavored lager. It was good, but like the Fuego, only in small portions for this gal.
google avatar

Cheryl C.

Yelp
Just a terrific place for a drink with friends. Staff is friendly and super helpful suggesting the different beers they have on tap. Enjoyed the flight of beers and the Lobster Roll from the food truck on site.

Erica R.

Yelp
Great beer and atmosphere. Plenty to do for a for the kids plus a good truck for Thai food.
google avatar

Yelp
Nice place with good brews. We sat outside on a cool day and there was no shade so I burned my face and had no idea until I got home. An umbrella would have been nice.
google avatar

James B.

Yelp
Nice place, but I couldn't find a beer I fell in love with here. Give it a try, see if it's for you; but I'd try the other local places first.

Yelp
First time here, indoor and outdoor seating, walk up service, food truck with pizza. Beverage selection: beer, soft drinks and some drink creations they make from their beers. Beer selection was over a dozen, about half were IPAs. No porters, no stouts, especially for this time of year. Overall sampling of selections was nothing to rave about, very little body and no depth in flavor. Bar staff was polite and busing the entire place. Unisex bathrooms need regular attention, bar staff should not have to do that too. Overall impression: we won't drive to Dripping for Twisted X as a destination in the future.

Michele P.

Yelp
Impressive bartender on 3/5/24 who greeted us with enthusiasm as soon as we walked up. He knew his product and offered suggestions when they were out of what my husband ordered. The atmosphere was pleasant and people seemed relaxed to spend their time there. We will return with friends!
google avatar

Katie N.

Yelp
I think this place is mainly for the atmosphere. My husband and I stopped by on our random "pub crawl" of the Hill Country. I can't say I had had Twisted X beer before (or maybe I have and it wasn't memorable). The location is nice and quiet, with a ton of outdoor seating. However, the sewage smell was overwhelming! The inside was large and open but was crowded and was so loud. I don't know- I was impressed with the building, but not the beer, and definitely not the smell.

Yelp
A Hoppy Walk in Dripping Springs Let me paint you a picture. Imagine, if you will, a quaint little hamlet nestled in the heart of Texas, Dripping Springs. Now, forget everything you thought you knew about breweries, because this place is about to change everything. When you step into the brewery, it's as if you're stepping back into a simpler time. A time when beer wasn't just an alcoholic beverage, it was a way of life. The atmosphere is casual, relaxing, and inviting - like an old favorite pair of jeans that somehow still fit after Thanksgiving dinner. The friendly staff is as warm as a Texas summer, ready with a cold pint and a hearty "howdy". And let's not forget about the beer. Oh, the beer. It's like a symphony of hops and malt playing a beautiful ballad on your taste buds. Now, let's talk about the star of the show, the McCoughnahaze (sp?). With its rich, hoppy goodness and the smooth, hazy finish, it's like drinking a tall glass of "this is why I love beer". The brewery is also filled with wooden accents and outdoor seating that whispers sweet nothings about 'let's just chill' and play a crazy game of corn hole. In conclusion, if you're a beer lover, a fun lover, or just a lover in general, this brewery in Dripping Springs is the place to be. So definitely sidle on down, kick back, relax, and enjoy a brew or two. Oh, and remember, always drink responsibly. Because the only thing better than enjoying a good beer, is being able to remember how good it was the next morning. Truth.

Yelp
One of my favorite hill country breweries for both their beer and vibe. On the Sunday that we visited it was too darn hot to enjoy their patio even with their Big Ass Fan. Inside was cool and comfy as we ordered a couple of their taproom only specialty brews and enjoyed the live music. A shoutout to the guitar player who finished his set with a great Spanish guitar-led song. So bring the mutt and your kiddos (there is plenty of room for both them to run around outside) and enjoy a few of their wonderful craft beers. Be sure to check out their website for taproom only beers and new releases!

Yelp
I took my friends who were visiting for the weekend here for some drinks. This was the first time I had gone to this brewery and I was extremely impressed. The outdoor area is huge and accommodating for both large and intimate groups. Tons of games to choose from, like giant Jenga and cornhole. Not to mention the beers and ciders are delicious ! Definitely visit this place, great vibes!

Yelp
Just 11 miles from Jester King, sits another awesome brewery, Twisted X. Good brewery ambience with both indoor and outdoor seating. A food truck offering tacos and other Mexican snacks is parked on the premises. Beer offerings are good with a varied selection. Available on the day we visited, was chupaHOPra IPA, Mango IPA, Oatmeal Stout, Zwickle, Pilsner, Lager, Pale Ale and a few guest beers. Flights available, $2 a taster for a very generous pour. Good flavor profiles to the ones we sampled. 2 bathrooms available. Out of toilet paper and not very clean on the day we were there. Dogs are welcome, however, the outside seating area isn't huge. Cornhole outside and the COOLEST carved tree you have ever seen! Worth a stop and a beer just to appreciate the giant gargoyle and sombrero-wearing iguana.

Yelp
Fun brewery. Very friendly and informative people to answer my questions of the beer and location. Beautiful space, inside and out. Not on main road so not as crowded as some places nearby. Happy to stop and visit.

Yelp
Delightful beer, lovely setting. Live music on a Saturday afternoon. Good food truck. Excellent overall experience. And we love that they support Divine Canines through Barks for Beers!

Yelp
Visited for the first time this past Saturday. There as a good crowd, busy but not packed, and we had no problem grabbing two seats. It's not a huge place, but they have tables and chairs outside, an outdoor patio section and then some indoor. You can also sit at the bar. They had live music while we were there (a single guy and a guitar which was pleasant and not overwhelming, and there is a food truck on site. Plenty of parking as well. We told the girl behind the bar it was our first time, and she did a great job of talking about the beers. I'm not an IPA fan so she recommended the German lager, which I found to be delicious. My friend got the mango IPA which he also liked a lot. And a good price at $5 per glass. They have tours twice a day but we missed it as well as merch for sale. All in all, I found it to be a great place to hang out on a Saturday afternoon and it's in close proximity to Salt Lick and other wineries/breweries. Definitely make it part of the list to stop at!

Yelp
Not sure why we hadn't come out before but it was a nice setting. We enjoyed sitting under the big ass fans on the patio. They had duo playing from 2 to 6pm but inside was a tad too loud. High tables inside & picnic tables outside. Dogs are allowed. They have some Doug Moreland chainsaw art in a dead tree and then inside some small tables. They also have a photo booth. TVs inside and out that where showing the end of the golf tournament. A perfect day for my father (beer and golf). My husband and father enjoyed what they had. I wish they had something for non beer drinkers beside soda and water but that is the risk I run not drinking beer. Food truck on site or chips and salsa at the bar. Easy to park.

Jennifer G.

Yelp
I was so disappointed in my one and only visit. I have passed by many times and always wanted to try out the brew...I wish I would have passed by another time. Customer service was lacking and the beverages were not to my liking. My flite was poured down the drain bc I couldn't stomach the beer . I love beer & was hopeful to find a new craft beer from this local brewery No such luck...and I do not plan to try another time.

Yelp
We had such a great time at Twisted X. Loved it so much. Starting off the drive out there is beautiful. I love getting out to dripping springs and getting out of the city. The leaves are changing and it's just a wonderful drive through hill country We got there and were greeted with friendly faces. We got a few beers then went on a tour. Very cool behind the scenes look of how they do everything in house! Came back and told the bar manager we trusted him to put together a flight for us. And he delivered. All the beers were delicious. We very much so enjoyed our time there! We also enjoyed that there is a food truck serving delicious pizzas! Daniele' did great!!

Yelp
Employees are awesome, vibe is great, beer is tasty! They are super accommodating and host a lot of cool events!

Yelp
I love coming to twisted x - many variety of brews and occasionally new ones! I've had the lagers and ales! Say hi to Alex and tell them Theresa Math sent you! You won't get a deal, but it'll make him feel special!
google avatar

James R.

Yelp
Having to downgrade this place. Last time I went their offerings were fairly pedestrian. Still can't get growlers or crowlers of stuff that doen't get canned. I understand state law makes it difficult, but in the land of the "LLC" their should be a way to have a production line AND a tasting area that can sell crowlers. Still love the Fuego but they didnt have it last time. Merchandise looks pretty sparse compared to when they first opened. They used to have some quality tees and hats ( of which I have a few) but now there virtually nothing there. Austin has too many other great breweries to drink at rather than wasting time and a drive to Driftwood for what seems is a declining business.
google avatar

Matt L.

Yelp
Love this place! Great beer and great location it's my favorite brewery in Austin! The MConahazzee is my jam! And all there other beers are great too! Great lil drive out the back roads from Austin to get there!
google avatar

Yelp
By far one of my favorite places in Texas to visit! The mango IPA never disappoints, this joint is full of flavorful Beer and great service. I am always a big fan of open/outdoor seating and this place is perfect for a sunny day! They have plenty of seating and last visit they had a food truck which was pleasant. Be sure to check this place out and grab a beer during your travels.

Yelp
Found a new fav to haunt! Seriously! Twisted X Brewing Company is yet another great spot on the Texas Hill Country Beer Trail! The décor is simplistic and inviting, rustic Mexican meets shabby chic. The re-purposed wood ceiling is a standout, the tiny cacti on every table on top of Mexican woven blankets, and the great staff all add to the charm. TXBC specializes in Tex Mex Beer™. From standout lagers to more innovative flavor combos, the brews are indeed tasty and interesting. They use as many local ingredients as possible, making this local craft brew truly "local." IMHO a flight is a great way to start, particularly on your first visit. Can choose up to six (go all the way!) 5 oz. pours, served up in a cute and functional branded wooden board. Depending on the beer, each one ranges in price from $2-3, so a complete flight will cost about $12-15. A little bit different approach than most "flights;" however, I feel like it gives you more choices. Some standout beers: The Premium Lager is TXBC staple beer, and as they recommend, is very good in a Michelada! The hubster has been on an IPA kick for quick a while now and thoroughly enjoyed the Chupahopra - very hoppy finish. And no trip to TXBC would be complete without sampling the Fuego (aka Jalepeno Pilsner). It's certainly fits right in with the Tex-Mex approach, and has just the slightest kick of heat at the end. The first thing that popped in my head was "THIS is the next beer I'm putting in my chili." Perfect "cooking" beer. Overall: When you're out on the "Trail" or just in Dripping Springs any given day of the week, stop in and sip on one or two. I don't think you'll regret it. Arriba, abajo, adentro! Cheers! TIPS: *Unlike many "breweries," the Tasting Rom at TXBC is open 7 days a week. * TXBC reads more barlike type of brewery with TV s and a food truck (Thur, Fri, &Sat). Great place to spend some time, and even catch a game. Huge plus! *They do have brewery tours - free! M-F @4pm, Sat @1,3,5pm, Sun@1,3pm. *Be sure to check out the large carved tree outside. Too cool; makes for some great photo opps. *Super dog friendly outdoor area, complete with "poo" station so do your doodie...er, um..duty when your fur baby does his/hers please.

Yelp
I had been meaning to check this place out for a while. I have been a big fan of their Chupahopra for quite some time and finally made the pilgrimage. The brewery has nice curbside appeal. The structure is nicely done and their is a little area for the doggies. Of note, dogs are also allowed in the tasting room. There is also a food truck there. The inside is your typical tasting room with an industrial look. It is nicely done. The bartenders are good. The prices are right. I would recommend the flight so you can try ones. I really think they do a good job on the IPAs. Their beers are quite good. But of all of them, i favor the Chupahopra!

Cara L.

Yelp
Great place for pups. Josh was very friendly and knowledgeable about what was on tap. Hope to visit again.

Yelp
A group of friends and I came here on a Friday afternoon. We got a couple flights of beer and really enjoyed them. The staff was friendly, the place was clean and the decor was neat. I would go back.

Sarah B.

Yelp
Relaxed but fun atmosphere at Twisted X Brewing! From the flight my favorites were the Gulf Kolsch and the Goldendoodle. There is a mix of indoor and outdoor seating and lots of outdoor games to play. There is also a food truck with excellent burgers.

Yelp
OK, I am admittedly late to the Twisted X party - which is sad - particularly for a S. Austi like myself. I really have no good excuse. This day at the Brewery was cool and so sitting outside was great - as was the beers. This is such a great space, and the service here was fantastic. They also had someone playing acoustic guitar - which only added MORE to the cool factor. I can see spending many more days here in my future.

Anne L.

Yelp
We have been coming here for years. Josh and Jen are incredibly personable and attentive and the beer is great. Love the live music and the special events. Great to have a go-to spot that works for families and adults!

James D.

Yelp
It's a gorgeous Sunday afternoon and nice time to be at a brewery. Atmosphere is great, nice crowd but the only issue is that there is only one person working the bar. People are waiting 10 - 20 minutes to get their drinks. Person working the bar is doing great the best she can. Management needs to do a better job.

Sue C.

Yelp
Horrible customer service! Their payment system did not work. They wanted to swipe the credit card multiple times. We refused. Offered to pay cash, they said no. They wanted to write the credit card information on a piece of paper with other customers CC info. We refused. Sidney, said that my attitude was not good. Sorry, Sidney you are not good at this business. Your problem is not our problem. Will not return all due to a horrible experience from Sidney.

Yelp
Nice place. Gets crowded. Good beer. Please stop by on enjoy the live music. It's an awesome place for a Saturday afternoon. Highly recommend it.

Yelp
On a recent vacation to Austin, my boyfriend and I essentially ate and drank our way across the city, visiting countless restaurants, food trucks and breweries. Of all the breweries we visited, this one was my boyfriend's favorite. ;) (They were my second fave. My favorite goes to Last Stand.) I liked their tap room and beautiful landscape/setting in Dripping Springs. Beer selection was fairly hop heavy, hence my boyfriend's love of the place. I found one or two I really liked too. Prickly Pear was my go-to. I would have loved a few darker -- brown, porter, stout -- choices in the winter when we visited. We took a few jars of their yummy salsa home with us.

Yelp
We needed a road trip out of Leander/Cedar Park. We took the back roads to Dripping Springs and found ourselves @ Twisted X Brewing Company. Nice place! Friendly staff. Great tasting beers. We liked their CHUPAHOPRA the best. We didn't know this but Twisted X Brewing used to be up in Cedar Park @ 601 E Whitestone Blvd, which is now the home of Whitestone Brewery. While we were here @ Twisted X we enjoyed the Americana music of JOSH FIELD. We liked his fresh music so much we ended up buying his three CD's. Josh is on Facebook. His voice is unique and I hear a little bit of Bob Seger meets Travis Tritt. When I was much younger, actually back in college in the early 70's, I started my FM Radio DJ career playing country music so I kind of have an ear for what could be a "hit" artist and I think Josh has that skill as he also writes his own music. My favorite two cuts from his latest CD are "Hippie" and "Amsterdam". We talked for a good twenty music about how difficult it is to get to that level. I shared with him that I was attending a small junior college in Southern Indiana studying radio/tv and in the class was future songwriter/singer John Mellencamp who was from Seymour, Indiana. But at that time, circa, 1974, nobody knew that John would become a singer and we never heard him sing at any local clubs. It was John's "demo" tape that he gave to an executive @ MainMan record label that started his career. However John's first album released in 1976 only sold 12,000 albums. So the moral of the story is keep throwing enough mud up on the wall and eventually it will stick. The Austin area has such a rich tradition with its artists being very approachable. And to have a nice venue like Twisted X Brewery makes it all the more fun to enjoy the variety of artist who are out there every night doing what they do best. Steve & Gloria Leander, TX

Yelp
Pretty good beer and they have lots of activities, however the seating is pretty difficult. There's very few inside/under the roof and the rest are outside with the sun blaring down on us. They have umbrellas for the sun but they're disconnected from the table and there are only a few. Dog friendly!

Yelp
We love Twisted x. The beer is great and so is the atmosphere. They have a large outdoor patio with heaters and indoor tables too. They have food trucks although they were not open when we were there. We will be back!

Yelp
The Twisted X Brewery is a great place to taste handcrafted beer. Enjoy live music & food trucks. Try Twisted X Collection on specially-made flight paddles featuring 4.5 oz. https://hubpages.com/food/Twisted-X-Brewing-Company-Handcrafted-Beer-in-Dripping-Springs-TX My favorite beer was the Jalapeno Pilsner. I also loved their newest creation the Hye-Biscus (The Hye-Biscus is a seasonal beer and is an American style ale with hibiscus flowers). The Austin Lager is German inspired Lager made with Pilsner malt and select German hops. The Chupahopra is a Classic IPA brewed to perfection with Pilsner base malt and choice American hops. Cow Creek is an Amber Lager brewed with Pilsner, Vienna, and select specialty malts Later Days is a West Coast Style IPA artfully crafted with generous amounts of Citra & Mosaic hops. Another one of my favorite beers is the Michelada and is made with light beer, tomato juice, lime juice, salt or celery salt, Worcestershire sauce and hot sauce and garnished with a lime. Which the bartender at the Twisted X was more than happy to fix me up. We celebrated my mothers 77th Birthday at the Twisted X Brewery -- As you can see from the photos Mom had a great time as we toasted her birthday and tasted the beer. We enjoyed some nachos from the food truck, listened to great music, enjoyed the wonderful Texas weather, shared a few jokes and felt blessed to spend these wonderful moments with each other.

Yelp
Nice location with a fair selection. Nothing special going on but a relaxing time. Will stop back in passing but may not spend a day there
