The Best Coffee Shops & Cafes In Chicago - Chicago - The Infatuation

"If you’re working in the Loop, this is where you want to be. Two Zero Three is the coffee shop at the ground level of the Virgin Hotel, and it doesn’t have the same sceney-ness as the other hotel restaurants. The space has a mixture of couches, counter seating, and tables that make it easy to work. At night, it turns into a wine bar, so have some friends meet you when you’ve finally finished overthinking that email to your boss." - adrian kane, john ringor, veda kilaru

17 Places To Drink While You Get Work Done - Chicago - The Infatuation

"Hotel bars downtown are generally quiet places that are good for working solo. But right around check-in time, they can get overrun with nametag-wearing business people. Two Zero Three, the coffee shop/wine bar at the ground level of the Virgin Hotel, doesn’t have that kind of atmosphere. This place stays low-key all day, and has couches, counter seating, and tables that make it easy to work. At night, it turns into a full-on wine bar, with a food menu of charcuterie and cheese." - josh barnett, adrian kane

Where to Eat Near Your Publicis Office | Eater

"If you’re in search of a place where you can get both a cappuccino and a glass of cabernet, Two Zero Three is perfect. Located inside the Virgin Hotel, this cafe specializes in fun flavors of lattes like lavender-matcha and honey-ginger. There are plenty of outlets if you need to plug in a laptop or a phone, and their morning pastry menu transitions to cheese and charcuterie plates in the afternoon if you’re looking for something a little more wine-friendly." - Vox Creative

Located inside Virgin Hotel, this coffee shop makes everything in house. The yogurt parfait with granola and seeds was made excellent. I had the God Save The Queen coffee made with 2 espresso shots, oat milk, cinnamon, vanilla and honey. The seating was cozy and overall had a nice vibe. The staff was super friendly. I highly recommend Two Zero Three for coffee and more.

Google
Very solid coffee spot with a well decorated interior, and days to visit location. The staff is always nice and quick with drinks. The options are decent, just wish it had local partnerships for the beans. The food is OK, not bad, not stellar (basic pastries)

Google
Service was terrible. First person took down my order then asked me about every item again. "Two sausage no cheese, one chai latte with oat milk, one breakfast tea with oat milk" "one sausage?" "No two please, no cheese" "And a tea?" "Yes please" "what type of tea" "breakfast tea with oat milk" "and that's it?" "No a chai latte with oat milk too". Would suggest adding each item in once ordered rather than remebering it. After we ordered the drinks arrived. The chai cup didn't list oat milk. Asked if it was oat milk. Told no. I said "Sorry but I did ask for oat milk" "oh ok". Replacement provided promptly but would suggest acknowledging the order was wrong. Calls out "I got one sausage and one bacon no cheese" "Is that for me?" "Yes" "I ordered two sausage no cheese" "Well I did one bacon" "Ok well I would like two sausage please" "Fine". Both were right the second time. Got no apologies, no smiles, annoyance at me asking for what I ordered. It was 36 dollars in total. The sandwich was small, the sausage was small, it hadn't been properly cooked and was slightly cold. The chai latte was weak. The tables hadn't been cleaned. There were very few places to sit. Didn't feel like anyone had pride in the place or care in their jobs. Won't be going back.

Google
I’ve never been to a coffee shop like this in my life. I’m usually an easygoing and laid-back person. I honestly tried to just let it go, but even after returning to my country, I still felt upset — so I looked it up on the map to leave this review. It was a woman working there. She just ignored me. When I finally called her over and ordered my coffee, there was hair inside it. At first, I tried to tell myself, “No, it can’t be,” but when I saw the hair, I was sure of it.

Google
Stopped by Two Zero Three recently. They have a casual indoor place with nice seating where you can enjoy a small selection of breakfast items along with morning coffee. During our visit we ordered a Macchiato and American coffee, both of which tasted just fine. Service was friendly and timely as well.

Saben T.

Google
Wow, best latte I've had in a while. Definitely try their specialty beverages. It's easy to walk past it, it's in the lobby of the Virgin hotel with no working exterior door. Worth the effort. It will cost you a little more than your neighborhood starbucks, but it's worth it.

Veronica D.

Google
Good latte and friendly service but the blueberry muffin was bitter and had an aftertaste. The offerings for on-the-go breakfast are good (overnight oats, parfait and hard boiled eggs) but the hard boiled eggs come with a lemon slice (why?).

Yelp
Morning coffee and tea with a pastry! Two Raisin Danishes, a Grim Steeper, and a Applely Ever After hot beverages.
google avatar

Yelp
Finally came back to check out a different drink. Ended up getting the London Calling Latte, which was much better. I have tried a latte with honey and sea salt before; that one I didn't like but this one was much better. Like last time, pretty fast & friendly service. Coffee place seems nice and calm; I would come back and work next time! Note: London Calling Latte is usually made with oat milk but I ordered mine with whole milk.

Yelp
The coffee was good. The service was just ok. The coffee space was cute and comfy. I enjoyed the Mr. Nice Guy.
google avatar

Josh M.

Yelp
Nice cozy place; coffee is flavorful easy access downtown. Service was fast and friendly. About 10 mins from the bean across from trump town. Located inside the Virgin hotel.
google avatar

Yelp
I ordered the god save the queen (honey and vanilla) without the cinnamon and it was pretty good! Nicely sweet and strong and service was quick. Came on a Saturday morning around 9:50 am and there was no line to order.
google avatar

Elizabeth G.

Yelp
Service with a smile - the barista was SUPER friendly and I enjoyed our conversation. Coffee menu is varied with lots of custom options, and they have some solid pastries too. We were able to find a spot to sit immediately on a Friday morning and enjoyed our coffee. Definitely a solid choice for a quick cup of coffee in the area.

Yelp
Super cute and spacious coffee shop within walking distance of the nearby Design Museum of Chicago that has a free exhibit that is excellent right now: Arts of Life: celebrating 25 years of providing arts training and employment for folks with disabilities. Go see that! Then come here for a chocolate croissant and coffee! Or Diet Coke, as I'm not a coffee drinker. My kid and I loved sitting together on a big comfy couch and eating our treats. The raisin bun was awesome! Paired it with a fresh banana to boost the nutritional value. Very delicious. Pricy, but it's Chicago in a tourist area. Staffer was lovely, very friendly and efficient. I'd definitely come back if I'm in the neigh again.

Megan M.

Yelp
Good study cafe. Cozy decor and seating. Unique and fun beverages that rotate seasonally. Food is decent. Not too loud. Water offered and bathroom upstairs with bar area and additional seating. Will return to work on my computer again.
google avatar

Brian H.

Yelp
Chocolate croissant was good, chai was ok. WiFi is mid, and VPN doesn't seem to work consistently
google avatar

Ploy N.

Yelp
A coffee shop inside a hotel. They do a bunch of creative drinks. Tried the Izzy iced, which was a dark chocolate raspberry drink with cayenne peppers. Pretty refreshing but a bit too sweet for me.
google avatar

Beth T.

Yelp
Being the mom of a barista, I'm looking for little local places. But here in the tourista section of Chicago, I'm going to have to work harder. But... Lovely place to sit and sip. View is nice and moved the music. My "god save the queen" was perfect. Felt like an independent café.
google avatar

Katherine T.

Yelp
Such a cute shop! I feel like the drinks were pretty standard - we did a salted caramel chai (couldn't taste the salted caramel that much) and the honey peppermint matcha (couldn't really taste the peppermint) but the drinks were still good! Serve was good and we really enjoyed the atmosphere and a really cute place to WFH at the hotel or if you have more admin than meetings to do!
google avatar

Nicole N.

Yelp
Stopped by Two Zero Three before leaving thr city and it exceeded my expectations for a hotel lobby coffee shop! They feature La Colombe coffee in their drinks but to my surprise, they also had their own espresso relayed drinks/lattes. The Purple Rain indeed had a strong lavender taste with a good espresso flavor! The Bee's Knees was also good with the oat milk and touch of salinity from the salt. Could have been a little sweeter with the honey imo. The cookie was thick but a little hard; the spinach feta pastry was actually pretty well seasoned with a nice crunch to chewy ratio! The store itself had a good amount of space and seating, ranging from couches to high top tables. I appreciated how it had enough space for travelers to navigate their small luggages. Staff were polite and drinks came out at a reasonable time. Hotel guests get a 20% off with the voucher they give you at check in!

Yelp
There is plenty of seating inside and it's located inside the hotel. I ordered the "God Save The Queen" and it was honey and vanilla with pinch of cinnamon. It was pretty good and not too sweet in flavor. Recommendation(s): - God Save the Queen Service: 5/5 Tip(s): - Accept Apple Pay - Located inside hotel

Yelp
Stopped here after a bright and early morning! We were craving coffee after eating breakfast and this place was pretty close. It's in the same building as the NBC tower and it's definitely a cool coffee shop. When you walk in, it's pretty small but the setting is really cute. It gives studying, business or even work meeting vibes! I got one of the summer drinks, the Raspberry vanilla Iced latte. If you're like me and like strawberry/raspberry anything, you will definitely love this! It adds a little tartness to the coffee with a hint of raspberry, not too over powering. I would definitely recommend this coffee shop!
google avatar

Ed M.

Yelp
It's a small café connected to a hotel. The coffee was pretty solid, although the caramel was on the lighter side. They did add more caramel upon request and it tasted fine. The green tea latte was very good and they do not pre-sugar so you can add whatever sweetener you like .
google avatar

Minaxi S.

Yelp
We ordered a Purple Rain and really liked the combination of white mocha and lavender. Very soothing.
google avatar

Yelp
Picturing yourself enjoying a gourmet coffee, tea or quick bite and peering out a large window as the L train slowly, saunters bye. A cool spot to get some work done or just lounge. The shop Is located inside the Virgin Hotel so you could easily miss it if you're not looking. Glad I was able to stop in and wish I had done so earlier in my trip. The baristas were super nice and friendly, offering up their personal favorites. The seasonal options were quite unique and I decided to give the pistachio white mocha matcha tea a try. Wow, it was super tasty !!! This was my favorite place to grab tea and will is my favorite place to grab tea in Chicago.
google avatar

Charisma H.

Yelp
The coffee doesn't taste good. The espresso drinks were fine, but heavy on the milk. The cold brew tasted sour. Not third wave coffee sour, but yogurt sour. Gross. Also the lines were long and they seemed understaffed. But the shop does have lovely windows to look out at the Chicago hustle.
google avatar

Amanda D.

Yelp
Interior of the place is very cute, inside the Virgin Hotel. Got just their black coffee and whoa this coffee is dark.. highly recommend leaving room for cream if you order it.
google avatar

Divya V.

Yelp
Two Zero Three is a cute cafe located in Loop. It has a cute ambiance and wide range of coffee options (they also have a special winter menu) I ordered a Purple Rain coffee with almond milk. It had a good taste of Lavender and was quite refreshing. They do not have any Vegan options which was disappointing and hence deducted a few stars. I ordered a Spinach and Feta Pastry as I was quite hungry and it was average. They have a huge seating space and a lot of folks were working from the cafe itself. I may come back just for the coffee!
google avatar

Monica R.

Yelp
It is a typical fast or working café urban people take. Nice, cool place, artistic ambience, great cappuccino and buttery croissants. The food is good! The price reasonable. If you are a tourist, it a good place to grab something and, go walk! Chicago is great visiting walking.
google avatar

Marshal R.

Yelp
Overall 4.5 out of 5! (But I always round up) We were only in Chicago for a quick one full day trip and we STILL came to Two Zero Three TWICE. First time my wife and I got a Ice Purple Rain (Lavender) and Queen Bee (Honey Cinnamon). Second time I got the Queen Bee, but iced this time. My wife opted for the Bee's Knee's (Honey and a pinch of salt) - which was a big no for me but my wife liked it. THE GOOD * Unique and GREAT flavors. * Friendly staff. * Clean inside. * Relaxed location that you can probably do some work in. THE BAD * Not so obvious entryway. - We were following a couple going to the same place, they pulled on the exterior door, didn't get in and just walked off. We went to the other door and found the interior door inside the Virgin Hotel entrance. THE UGLY * Nada.

Yelp
Quick and nice service ! Fun and tasty menu- we were going to sit and stay a while but we had a building to get to in time. Some nice barstools to sit at, but not much else it can get a little crowded.
google avatar

Dean L.

Yelp
Two of us stopped in for breakfast. Service was friendly enough, but the sausage and cheese breakfast sandwiches were kind of gross. They weren't microwaved long enough, so weren't quite hot enough. And since they were kind of busy and slow to begin with, we persevered and choked them down anyway. Coffee was good. 90s on the sound system.
google avatar

Chris B.

Yelp
Good coffee and nice surroundings but it's in a hotel lobby so you're paying hotel prices
google avatar

Aakruti V.

Yelp
This place is fine - the interior is cozy and chic, which provides a great ambience for work. I had the Parmesan Leek pastry, which was not bad - it tasted good but it was a bit soggy - its a flaky pastry so I'd have preferred it to be more flaky like a croissant. I also had the get well tea - it's a nice touch that the cup says "get well." They filled it up all the way to the top, which was also nice. Note that it's made from a teabag, not fresh ingredients (Rishi tea). The service was good - I got my things quickly and the staff was helpful and friendly. I did notice that they called their chai latte "chai tea latte." This was disappointing as this place is in an international hotel chain - Indians have been saying for years that "chai tea latte" is redundant (like "PIN number or "ATM Machine") so every time I see "chai tea" on the menu of a big city coffee shop, especially one in an international hotel, I (and many other Indians) feel taken aback. It would be nice if they named their drink culturally appropriately.

Yelp
Two Zero Three is connected to Virgin Hotel in the Loop. We found it on Yelp, and we were not led astray! I enjoyed a Queen Bee latte, which is made with honey, vanilla, cinnamon, and oat milk. It's definitely one of the top 10 lattes I've had in the city! I usually am not a fan of coffee with any sweeteners, but the honey works perfectly here! The best way to describe the taste of the Queen Bee latte is like Teddy Grahams. They could definitely rebrand this latte as a Teddy Grahams latte (served with a Teddy Graham cookie on the side or crumbled on top)! Absolutely delicious. I highly recommend it! We tried a different Chicago cafe's honey cinnamon latte later the same day and it was NOWHERE NEAR the level of Two Zero Three. We will be back for sure! I'm torn between wanting to try other menu items in case they're as good or better vs. getting my tried and true. A good problem to have!
google avatar

Loretta W.

Yelp
Really original coffee and tea options and I treated myself to a muffin. It was crazy moist and flavorful. I'm glad I stopped in.
google avatar

Taylor U.

Yelp
The coffee was pretty darn good. It is kinda of hard to find being located in the virgin hotel, there's not exactly a sign outside. The breakfast sandwich was fairly disappointing. Nothing more than a frozen sandwich with some questionable meat.

Michael K.

Yelp
I just went there and ordered a large latte, based on pictures I was expecting a decent cup of coffee. As soon as I picked up the cup, it felt light, I knew something is wrong. I opened the lid and saw 1/2 a cup full of foam. It is bad. It's $8 bad. I had to pour out most of the foam in order to get to taste the coffee. Coffee tasted burned, worse than the full auto machine at work. I wouldn't even pay $3 for it. Be warned!!
google avatar

Pranav T.

Yelp
The shop is located within the hotel, so go through the revolving doors into the lobby to get to the cafe, it was a bit confusing for me. The trouble of getting in was well worth it as it's a quaint spot in downtown to get some work done. The coffees were strong and tasted great with a decent price for its location. The only qualm I would have is that you're unlikely to get a space for yourself as most seats are shared with a variety of large tables or counters.
google avatar

Angela K.

Yelp
This place is always slow when I go. Coffee is slightly on the pricier side so I don't go often. It's easy access and if you love La Colombe's coffee, this shall be your place to go. Service is always kind whenever I make my trip there. This cafe is located inside a hotel so it shares that hotel lounge vibes.
google avatar

Mya J.

Yelp
Didn't feel that welcoming, kinda just felt like they wanted to get through the line. Muffins are mid. I like that they use tea sachets. My boyfriend said something about them not being able to serve tea "that hot" so yea extremely hot tea, but it kept its warmth for awhile, I got a medium mint tea... they don't have honey tho. Sandwich was overpriced.
google avatar

Shriya S.

Yelp
Stopped by on my walk through Wabash and spotted this small coffee shop inside the Virgin Hotel lobby area. As you walk in, there is plenty of comfy couch seating as well as table seating that would be perfect for work. I ordered at the counter area that separates their teas from their coffees. The employees were friendly and gave me suggestions on what to order. I ended up going with the "Queen Bee" and oh my gosh, it was SO yummy!! The Queen Bee drink contains oat milk and vanilla, which is usually one of my favorite combos. Creamy, flavorful, not overly sweet, but contained enough coffee/caffeine and didn't taste like a frap. I really liked their unique creation because that's what I look for at coffee shops I don't come across as often. I am definitely coming back to try their iced version of this very drink - I can only imagine how refreshing it would be over the summer!
google avatar

Sangita S.

Yelp
Wrong drink. Over iced. 0 flavor. Forgetful service. Long waits . Skip this place- you won't get what you ordered
google avatar

Kylle S.

Yelp
Lovely place to wait for your table at Miss Ricky's. Drinks with a song. Order a Mocha & Chili for me and a Purple Rain for my college. Both were good espresso based bevs. The atmosphere is what Starbucks used to be. Shared work space with readily available caffeine. Really the best part is the staff. Super personable and funny! Coffee isn't anything to write home about, but service with a smile is so hard to come by when you get it you have to celebrate it!

Randy D.

Yelp
I had one of the best coffee drinks I've had in a long time. I splurged and got one of their "greatest hits" drinks and it did not disappoint. I ended up going with the "God Save the Queen" with whole milk. It was not overly sweet like a lot these drinks tend to be and had fantastic flavor. It was definitely on the pricey side but that's what you get in Chicago. It also has a fantastic little space for remote working or coffee meetings with free wifi.
google avatar

Sara M.

Yelp
Coffee could have been better. it was also so busy and loud here, which is fine, but I went here to study so it was a little difficult for that purpose.
google avatar

Michael R.

Yelp
Yummy coffee shop location in our hotel during our trip! The speciality drinks are very good and not overlying sweet. Also make a really good dirty chai! Would recommend.
google avatar

Ilona K.

Yelp
One of the best matcha lattes I've had. The bacon, egg, and cheese sandwiches were just okay. I found them to be a bit heavy. The sandwiches are premade and reheated, so the order was ready very quickly with just two people working. The location was very convenient for us, as we were staying at the Virgin Hotel. The decor and ambiance of Two Zero Three was inviting, but cool. We took our food and drinks to the room, but I can imagine it being a comfortable place to work or meet up with someone.
google avatar

Glen N.

Yelp
It's not super cheap, nor are the acoustics great, but it's large and convenient for Virgin Hotel guests. You can sit toward the window for people watching and laptop use or get a little cozier. They offer individual bottles of Tabasco and ketchups. Though not huge, the fresh breakfast sandwich was salty, buttery, and cheesy with a crackle to the English muffin.
google avatar

Joe L.

Yelp
Staff was very kind and quick, even with how busy they were when I first walked in. The nitro cold brew I ordered was so good, and coupled great with a warmed croissant. Location is pretty small since it's in a hotel, but it still felt cozy.
google avatar

Aaron Z.

Yelp
I stopped here to get a coffee in the morning on my way to work. I ordered the queen bee (vanilla, espresso) based upon the recommendation of the staff. I also had a chocolate croissant as well just to load up on sugar. The drink was excellent. A small size(2 shots) was plenty to get you up and going. The croissant was decent, but bad but not great as it was a tad bit burnt but still very edible. Good place to sit and enjoy a drink inside on one of their couches, tables, or high chairs. Bring a book or a laptop and relax for a bit with good coffee!
google avatar

Rich N.

Yelp
Cortado and Americana were both good. Staff was friendly and good people watching spot.
google avatar

Lito Q.

Yelp
Great little spot with excellent coffee, friendly baristas, cool music, and decent pastries. Not too quiet but not too loud.

Halle W.

Yelp
A bland $6 Carmel latte, didn't taste like Carmel, just hot milk in a black coffee, not impressed
google avatar

WindyCity X.

Yelp
Good coffee and there's a few house favorite blends that are good. Nice atmosphere. Some sugar free options

Carla E.

Yelp
This place has always been on the pricier side but their coffee and pastries had always been GOOD... Their ham and cheese croissant used to come out hot and it was crunchy outside and buttery inside. It has little seeds on top that added to the deliciousness. Well, no more. I'm not sure if they changed the pastry vendor or just the product. Their ham and cheese 'croissant' is now more like the ham and swiss pastry from Starbucks... except they managed to make it worse! The new 'croissant' is at least half the size than it used to be, instead of actual ham and cheese it has something I can just describe as a spread?! it's some cheese concoction with little chunks of meat that they are passing for ham. It is terrible... It will set you back almost $7. Save your money. Go somewhere else for your pastries. The coffee is still good.
