The Best Burgers in New York City

"This might be any ordinary neighborhood bar —you know, the kind for watching sports on on weekend afternoons as you nibble nachos. But no, it concentrates on thick juicy burgers in a number of surprising configurations. There’s a Hatch burger, a breakfast burger, and — perhaps best of all — a half-and-half burger that mixes beef and bacon in the patty in exactly that proportion. A nifty idea, so the bacon doesn’t shoot out of the bun." - Robert Sietsema, Eater Staff

The Best Hot Dogs in NYC | Eater NY

"This comfy weekend afternoon bar, with sports contests flickering on the TVs seems obsessed with burgers and franks, washed down with an admirable list of beers. The hot dog itself is about eight inches long and weighs a quarter pound, and you can have it several ways, including a plain version and, the signature of the bar, the Two8Two, which smothers the dog in green chile and cheese, as if this place were in New Mexico." - Robert Sietsema

A New Place to Find a Hatch Chile Burger That’s Been Here All Along - Eater NY

"Two8Two Bar and Burger, located at 282 Atlantic Avenue, near Smith Street, in Cobble Hill, has been serving burgers since 2011. Founded by Billy Thanopoulos, a finance and real estate professional, the venue is known for its simple yet delicious burgers. The burgers are a blend of chuck, brisket, and short rib, served on a Martin’s Potato Roll with burger sauce and griddled green chiles. The venue is low-key with TVs behind the bar and friendly bartenders. A highlight is their New Mexican Hatch chile burger, priced at $14.50 without fries." - Daniel Meyer

Google
We were looking for an easy and quick lunch after a long morning working. The establishment was quaint and we were greeted by the bar tender. He had us take a seat and then the wait began. We even joked at one point that we should run out and grab skeletons to put in our seats to see his reaction should he ever return. The place was not busy, there were a few people at the bar and us. He finally stopped by and we ordered two drinks and sandwiches. Our food came after about 25 minutes or so and it was good. I had a chili cheese hotdog and my husband had the grill chicken sandwich and we split the green chili and cheese fries. If you have time to kill stop in and enjoy a good sandwich. But bring your patience.

Google
Pretty mediocre. Before I say anything, my benchmark for burgers is 5 guys if you can't beat them you aren't burgering right. There two8two burger was good. But the pub burger was "eh." The burger was falling apart and the onions were not thoroughly caramelized. There really isn't anything special about any of these burgers. The only reason I did not give any less than 3 was because their burgers for the time I was there, were properly seasoned. Their fries are terrible. Regular diner fries. Everything else is okay , what you expect for a normal everyday bar.

Google
me and my wife decided to go in on a Saturday to try the burger and drinks,to my surprise the breakfast burger was delicious, patty seasoned well, bacon cooked nice and crispy and the egg perfectly done, also drinks were nice and strong

Google
282 is one of the better burgers in Brooklyn. Very tasty meat. Seasoned properly. Very good bun. Quibbles. They cook their burgers thick - I prefer thin. I don't love the fries here. These are small quibbles. This is a tasty spot and my kids always beg for it. I also like the dogs and the shakes. Decent fries. Sports bar atmosphere up front which is not my favorite. The main dining room has been feeling dingy lately. Out back is nice if it's not too hot.

Google
My wife and I have a go to burger place but one time we were passing by two8two thinking about trying them and a person said "you have to try this". At that time we didn't but during the initial days of the pandemic we ordered (delivery) two8two and it was great. Since then we wanted to try them but at the place, not delivery and it's like 10% better. The Pub burger is always my go to choice but this time I tried the double cheese burger. Just GREAT. Good service! Delicious burgers! Thanks! UPDATE: we come here almost once every month!!!

Google
Takeout is terrible. Don’t bother ordering the chili cheese fries unless you want slop delivered to your door. Waste of money and gross.

Google
Insanely good burger wow!!! Also delicious (and generously + equally topped) nachos and great thick fries. Great vibe from the staff and super welcoming to our big group even tho it was close to kitchen closing. Great back patio — Highly recommend!

Google
Upon first glance, I initially thought the restaurant was closed due to its dim lighting. As we made our way inside, we found that the overall ambiance was quite dark, which made reading the menu somewhat challenging. That being said, the menu itself was simple and straightforward, which I appreciated. It offered a variety of great options, and the music playing added to the enjoyable atmosphere. Additionally, there were two TVs airing different sports games, providing extra entertainment. For my meal, I ordered the Billy Burger, cooked well-done with pickles, accompanied by a side of onion rings and a Sprite. However, my Sprite was replaced with club soda and lime, which was unexpected. The burger, nevertheless, was cooked to perfection and tasted delicious. I would certainly recommend it. The onion rings were crispy and flavorful, not soggy at all. Their Two8two sauce, which is mayo-based, was also quite tasty, though it may not be suitable for those who avoid mayonnaise. The service was prompt and efficient, and the overall vibe of the restaurant was relaxed and welcoming. It was a pleasant dining experience, and I would definitely recommend this spot.

Yelp
The food here is delicious. I've ordered from this place on three different occasions and have not been disappointed yet. Definitely one of the best burger spots in the downtown Bklyn area... Pop by if you are in the area. !

Yelp
Two 8 two has been on my radar for a couple years now as I've been hearing amazing things about their burgers. Yesterday, I finally had an opportunity to swing by and try one since I was in the area! I chose the Half and Half burger, which consists of a bacon and beef blend, along with hatch chiles and a delightful house sauce. I was really pleased with the flavors, but at $15 it was a bit steep pricewise given the size and that it didn't come with any sides. I'll likely come back to try another burger in the future - there were a lot of great options!

Yelp
Loved this place. Very friendly and inviting. Food was awesome- especially the burgers fries and nachos.

Peter S.

Yelp
Was searching for a good burger place in the greater Brooklyn Heights area and landed on this place. Don't regret it! The staff was friendly - Alex was an awesome server. And the burger was exactly what you want (house sauce, grilled onions, good portion size). Would highly recommend.

Yelp
Best Lamb burger I've had ever. Lol. I really enjoyed this local spot. I've seen it and past it for years but never visited since it could be a little hard for parking. I was able to find a park and was treating my nephew. The service was reasonably timed and I enjoyed the large screen tvs where you can watch what you want. Most likely sports would be playing, but I didn't mind. The burger was cooked well and perfect temperature. I would definitely return.
google avatar

Yelp
Really wanting a burger but lower carbs we came here on a weekday. It wasn't busy but we had just made happy hour. It being a bar there was no problem finding a seat and seeing a game (if that's your style). The tap selections were good and my burger was chargrilled to perfection. Everyone in my party can vouch for a delicious meal.
google avatar

Yelp
Great burgers. But honestly the service is always lacking. Slow and not very friendly or efficient. Sit out back if you can. The garden is nice.
google avatar

Yelp
I ordered food to go while Visiting Brooklyn for work. I thought the entire meal was trash, I ended up tossing it and getting a new meal elsewhere. The Blackened chicken sandwich was way over seasoned and salty, the chicken was tough, bun was soggy. Sweet potato fries were a mix of soggy and burnt.
google avatar

Lauren M.

Yelp
Great Burgers very juicy. Their meat is fresh never frozen and comes from a local butcher shop on Smith St. The server was amazing I will definitely go back!
google avatar

Nikki S.

Yelp
Came for lunch on a VERY busy day. Our server was WONDERFUL. He was polite and prompt. Our table ordered a variety of burgers. We ordered a breakfast burger, Turkey burger, and the hatch Chile burger. Our table also got an order of fries with blackened seasoning and onion rings. Everything was AMAZING. The bartender made some GREAT drinks too. You cannot go wrong having lunch or dinner here.
google avatar

Yelp
This is a consistently good place to enjoy a burger, milkshake, or even a beer. There is a bar, and outdoor seating on the patio. Plenty of seats inside, too. The burger choices are tempting, and the cooks do a great job. The servers and barmen are friendly. This is a neighborhood treasure right on busy Atlantic Avenue. My server was Alexis, and he is a whole vibe.
google avatar

Fabienne M.

Yelp
Stopped in on a break and boy did it hit the spot. It was so hot out I needed a beer so I went with high life nice and refreshing. I got the pub burger with a side of onion rings I was in Heaven. From the first bite the juice was running down my chin flavor in every bite yum. Fresh angus beef medium well with onion bacon and cheese. Onion rings were nice and crispy nicely bettered. Best burger I've had in a while. My server was also very attentive and pleasant and funny great guy. They outdoor seating in the back bar area and big enough for groups.

Yelp
Go to no-frills neighbourhood burger spot. Great service and bloody Mary's are excellent.
google avatar

Yelp
Was very good - burger was on point and easy to eat - not overly sloppy - beer selection was solid - no complaints - service would have been beater if bartender would get off his phone for a minute but you can't have everything

Yelp
I stopped here at this place around lunch time a while back as the local good burger spot to me (Henry Public) isn't open for lunch. Had their Double Cheeseburger consisting of two 5 oz. patties topped with two slices of cheddar , pickles , red onion and two8two sauce. It was I believe $16/$17 which is a bit expensive especially as it didn't come with fries but the burger was of excellent quality. Very tasty juicy patties and the sauce was tasty. I think it had mayo, mustard, and some other stuff but I am unsure. My only other issue perhaps was that the buns were a bit small so it was quite messy compared to other spots. Would go back and try the lamb burger. Nice bartender also. Mid/upper 3.
google avatar

Emanuel M.

Yelp
One of the best burgers I have ever had. Juicy, flavorful and all of the elements from the toasted bun to the lightly cooked onions came together flawlessly.
google avatar

Najwa G.

Yelp
My colleague constantly raved about this place so I figured it was time to give it a try. We both got the two8two burger which was delicious- definitely do yourself a favor and get a side of onion rings as well. The poblano chiles were a nice touch and were honestly what made the burger- will definitely start putting poblano chiles in burgers now haha. The only reason I knocked off a star is I feel $13 is a bit overpriced for a burger that is quite small and the fries were lackluster.

Niah C.

Yelp
Stopped in during the lunch hour (They have a special between 12 and 3). It wasn't too crowded when we walked in. Maybe 6 other tables/ patrons. Food was delicious. The blackened chicken sandwich was moist and well seasoned. The breakfast burger was messy but so good, and cooked perfectly. We ordered both of the mocktails, Lime Rickey was our fav, but the Virgin margarita was good also. We just felt the service could've been a tad bit better as our server was also the bartender. To put it nicely, his main focus was the bar, and at one point we contemplated picking up our own food from the kitchen window. Overall, the staff were really nice, and the food was good. Just wish there could've been more attention paid to the non-bar seated occupants.
google avatar

Jonathan K.

Yelp
A bit pricey, the portions could be larger but the food is great. The double cheeseburger pictured is $21, before tax or tip. Granted, I added a few things (the grilled jalapeños are a nice touch). The burgers were cooked exactly as directed. The bun was crispy on the burger side and tender on the outside. Service was friendly & acceptably timed. I'll return but my budget isn't big enough to be a regular here!
google avatar

Cool G.

Yelp
The restaurant looks ok but aponnfirther inspection the food was ok the burger bun was soggy and way to small for the burger itself the meat was good but the sweet potato fries made me want to spit them out
google avatar

Layla B.

Yelp
Absolutely Rude staff. They gave me the wrong order and then told me "to bad" we are closed now. Missing more than half of our food and did not care at all. Don't order from them
google avatar

Galen R.

Yelp
I used to frequent this bar all the time as a law student at BLS across the street so I was ecstatic to find they survived the pandemic upon my recent return. My whole table got burgers and everyone was satisfied per usual. I ordered the double cheeseburger and instantly remembered why I came here so many times in the past. They're juicy, made with fresh ingredients and signature sauces, and also very practically sized, so you can definitely get more than 1 with out feeling TOO guilty. Last but not least the people who work here are great too. Go here fam.
google avatar

Yelp
Another location in Brooklyn that has completely gained access to my heart via my stomach. By far the BEST Lamb Burger I've every had in my life. Great service and reasonable prices will bring me back every time I'm in Brooklyn. Feel safe with your decision to eat her and enjoy their fully stocked bar.
google avatar

Brenda C.

Yelp
Small burger joint. Really good burgers and the chili fries are a must. I ordered the blackened chicken sandwich and was delicious. Well balanced flavors. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Want a JUICY, DELICIOUS Burger?...Well this is the place. Whenever I'm craving a burger, this is the spot I go to. It's pretty lowkey in a rather busy neighborhood. I'm always delighted with the customer service. The gentleman (long hair) who tends the bar/dining area is alway polite, and attentive. This particular day I got the Pub Burger, Greek fries and a Lager to top it off. The burger was next level. The two 8 two sauce is the secret weapon and I got xtra on the side for the fries lol. The fries however weren't a hit this time. When I think of Greek fries I think of lingering Mediterranean flavors and I got none of that. The fries seemed a little over done and the cheese and oregano was just thrown on top. (Recommendation- a nice olive oil sauce tossed with seasonings and feta would be ideal). Besides that small mishap I would totally recommend this pub! I'll be back very soon.

Yelp
Great burgers , good service. Kid friendly which I enjoy very much . Will definitely return.
google avatar

Owen G.

Yelp
Alright, I've tried more burgers than I'd like to admit in this city. But this one's the best. Juicy, and when I say juicy I mean JUICY. Me and my partner tried the pub burger and the Billy burger. Both were insanely decadent. The great service, amazing local beer selection, and onion rings crispy enough to pause the conversation were all just a bonus. I'll admit, we took another pub burger for the road... which I'm eating at home as I write this review. All I'm saying is... come here asap!
google avatar

Izzy L.

Yelp
The best burger i've had in brooklyn, ordered the Pub burger and the Billy burger with onion rings with my partner and enjoyed it so much we got another one to go. If you're craving a burger this is the one and only spot i recommend!

Jenny A.

Yelp
This is my go to burger spot! The billy burger is the perfect serving size for me. Just enough to fill me and not leave left overs. The fries and onion rings are great although they don't come with your burger, you have to order a side. The two8two sauce is also very good. Service is great and the place is very clean.

Yelp
Today, my girlfriend asked me those four magical words that every romantic dreams of: "wanna get burgers today?" Yes I did, and, after consulting my Yelp bookmarks, we picked two 8 two Burgers on Atlantic St. Sitting at the bar, we ordered a couple of Sunday happy hour elderflower cocktails. We looked over the menu while sipping the sweet beverages. Burgers are great, but hello, what's this about a blackened chicken sandwich? One of those, a two 8 two burger, and an order of chili cheese fries. The food came out all at once, at which time I ordered a New York Sour signature cocktail. The two 8 two burger includes poblano peppers, which is as close to a green chile cheeseburger as I've seen this side of the Mississippi. Great flavor, not spicy, the beef patty tasted delicious and was cooked medium rare, as we ordered. The chicken sandwich was also a home run. I loved the flavor of the spices on the chicken--the cayenne came through particularly well. This is an awesome choice for those seeking relief from red meat. (Vegans/vegetarians would be better off inquiring about the Beyond meatless patties.) The chili cheese fries, unfortunately, were lacking. I applaud the choice to use real cheddar, but unfortunately it all congealed into a hard top layer that made the fries difficult to access. Perhaps Velveeta or nacho cheese queso would work better.
google avatar

Mary K.

Yelp
stopped in here for a burger and a drink. had the turkey burger which was really salty and dry. they forgot the special sauce so i asked for some on the side. it was just big mac sauce. sweet potato fries were good. my husband got the chili cheese dog. not worth $14.00. there were only three people at the bar but service was slow. probably won't go back here. went down the street to floyd's and it was much busier but we didn't wait longer than a couple minutes for a drink.
google avatar

Craig ..

Yelp
This place makes a great burger, one of the best you may ever have actually. But since they removed the seating out front they are no longer dog friendly. Won't let my little Pom be in the back yard either. I used to come here quite regularly to enjoy a burger, boozie milkshake and beers, but the dog hating owner makes me not want to come back.
google avatar

Kadeesha L.

Yelp
This solid burger pub offers nice pairings of brews and buns. Currently with back patio outdoor seating, indoor & front outdoor seating as well. Quick fast service, straight to the point menu with burger options for vegetarians and vegans! I opted for the protein burger which was wrapped in lettuce, came with two turkey patties, special sauce, cheese, lettuce, onion and tomato. Good stuff, nice and tasty. The onion rings were classic in fashion, thick cut and crunchy. Swallowed it down with a Guinness Nitro Stout. Great prices as well, will definitely be back for happy hour and more burgers!
google avatar

Yelp
Went for Good Beer Passport Dinner Food - 2/5. The poblanos were really overpowering on the burger. Despite being roasted pretty well, the large slices of poblanos with their stringy texture did not fit well when eating a sandwich. Since you're cutting with your teeth, it wasn't a good texture especially when you have everything else to chew at the same time. Beef patty itself was pretty average and the two8two sauce was barely noticeable. There was a reason they served the burger with ketchup on the side. Service - 4/5. Friendly and courteous. Value - 2/5. Their namesake two8two burger runs at $10.50. It sounded good on paper, but the actual burger itself wasn't good to eat. Despite the price point, it doesn't come with any sides at all either. I definitely expected more. Parking - Street (Free)

Yelp
Walking around Brookly around lunchtime is a great way to spend a Sunday. Stumbling upon Two 8 Two made it even better. They had some nice tables set up in front to expand their offerings for COVID, but we ate in the backyard. The service was a little slow and disjointed but was still friendly. I would normally order a beer with my lunch, but their cocktail menu was too inviting. I had the Oaxacan Old Fashioned (Mezcal, Grand Marnier, and Chocolate Bitters). It was REALLY good! Onto my burger - I had the Breakfast Burger. It was a 5 ounce, fresh ground, burger with a fried egg, cheddar cheese, bacon, and their house sauce. The burger was cooked perfectly and super juicy. The fried egg was a little overcooked but still did have a little "run" left to it. Altogether an excellent burger and I appreciated the smaller size. Burgers have become too huge and Two 8 Two's made getting out and walking afterward a breeze. No burger bloat. If you find yourself hungry on Atlantic Avenue do yourself a favor and enjoy Two8Two!
google avatar

Tracy E.

Yelp
Cool spot on the corner, great options, and probably best sweet potato fries I've ever had! Server was Alex and he was a delight. Will be back!
google avatar

Yelp
Absolutely some of the best burgers I've ever eaten. I'm writing this months after eating and my mouth is still watering.
google avatar

Scorcha L.

Yelp
Delicious burgers, also really enjoy the blackened chicken sandwich and onion rings! Also some of the best margaritas. The atmosphere is very low key and cozy and family friendly!
google avatar

Trey P.

Yelp
I know it's a burger joint but I ordered nachos. I'll say they were some good bar nachos. They are definitely filling and could use a couple more tortillas chips because there are plenty of toppings. I had a pomegranate margarita which was okay. Tried it because I don't typically hear that flavor. The service was great, our serve was very attentive!
google avatar

Y. Gail G.

Yelp
I received sweet potato fries. I ordered regular fries. The manager indicated not their problem! I am a good customer it should be their problem. Obviously, customer service is not a priority for management.

Yelp
Looking for an amazing burger in a chill environment in the Downtown Brooklyn neighborhood? ... Look no further! Food - (5/5) The burgers are top notch. Patties are delivered fresh daily from the local butcher shop, Paisano's. I frequent this butcher shop weekly and can vouch for their amazing quality beef. You can really taste it in the burger. I tried to breakfast burger which had perfectly crispy bacon but my egg was cooked a bit too much. That's on me for not specifying my preference. The Half & Half burger is solid too. You can't go wrong with any of the burgers honestly. The hot dogs are foot long which justifies the $10 price tag. Didn't try them, but th bartender devoured one and said it's his favorite thing there. Ambiance - (5/5) Chill and casual. Went here on a Sunday night with friends and we sat at the bar. Great service and two small TV playing NBA games. The bartender made some delicious old fashioned as well. Location - (4.5/5) Convenient location right on Atlantic so a close walk for any of the Downtown Brooklyn neighborhoods. Coming from Park Slope might be a hike but it's well worth it. Value - (5/5) Exceptional food and service at a fair price. Burgers range from $10-13 and don't come with any sides. The sweet potato fries are a great addition if you're looking for something to compliment the burger.

Yelp
Had the pub burger and it was so good! My friends tried the Greek fries and nachos. The food coupled with the vibe of the place was great for catching up with friends. Highly recommend for a well priced and delicious burger. Great casual beer selection as well.

Yelp
Our good burger buds at 282 have been around for a while. I discovered this by checking my draft reviews for them! I am looking forward to taking a nice walk up here again once we're out of Covid quarantine. Why? The times we've been there they've had consistently good service combined with their shake shack like burgers (in a good way). Yes, you have to pay extra for fries but they're delicious, so ultimately it's worth it. They are thicker than McD fries and come with some skin on the tips. Eat them while they're hot for maximum crispiness. The backyard with picnic tables is perfect for a late spring day (especially with the kiddos) and inside is cozy as a backup.

Yelp
Came here with a friend on a rainy Friday evening before COVID had us all sheltered at home. We were in the mood for some good burgers, beer, and fries, and Yelp led us here. We arrived just in time for happy hour and got our orders in -- the beer selection was your usual 6-10 on tap, with bottles. We both went with IPAs upon the suggestion of the bartender. Because our priority was fries, we ordered those first -- sweet potatoe for her, and regular for me (the loaded Greek ones held no temptation for me; I had a sole focus, and that was to get deep fried potato chunks). We were also starving so we went with some burgers: the Pub Burger and the Half and Half burger. The highlight was definitely the burger -- they really hit the spot and were cooked to perfection (medium/medium-rare) despite them not asking us ahead of time our preference, which was fine by me. They were extremely flavourful, juicy, and generously portioned. The burgers definitely had us immediately bookmarking this spot for the future. However, the fries did not taste as good as they looked on pictures -- they were very run of the mill, nothing special. Moreover, the bartender was a bit hands-off despite it not being a very busy night. We'd definitely come back for the burgers, but service is a bit slow, so be warned.

CD W.

Yelp
Two 8 Two has excellent burger a bit on the small size but filling. A good selection of drink options. Highly recommend the lamb burger.

Yelp
The food was great. The drinks, amazing. and service by Alex was EXCEPTIONAL. Will definitely come back when we visit NY/Brooklyn again. THANK YOU ALEX for the great experience. He was so nice and had a conversation with us while answering all our questions.

Yelp
While there wasn't anything terribly bad about my experience, the food and beers were just okay. I ordered the two8two burger and thought it was fine. A little on the smaller side but flavors were decent. Poblano peppers added a nice texture to the burger. Only complaint for me was I found a couple of hard chunks in my burger patty which makes me question the quality of the meat. I also wish the bread wasn't so soggy. French fries were very average. I'd probably come back for a casual drink here with friends but I'd skip the food.
google avatar

Kareem K.

Yelp
While the burgers here were definitely solid, everything else we had was not. The Two8two burger was tasty but a bit small. The drinks were a little dissapointing for the price, and the fries... The fries were an insult to Potato-kind. They were somehow less cooked than an actual raw potato. By the time they came to our table, they were colder than Russia in the winter, and were blander than an Imagine Dragons concert in the spring.

Chelsea C.

Yelp
did not have a good time here, they disrespected me and my friends, customer service was terrible, and he was condescending without checking with us first. we ordered 1 burger and it took over an hour in a completely empty restaurant. The food wasn't even that good. it was a OK burger. 0/10 did not have a good overall experience.
