I was hungry for some Soul Food and believe me there's no substitute for that when you crave it.
I live in Germantown and TyeMeka's is nearby.
When I drove up to the restaurant there were a few guys hanging in front of the spot, but I could tell that they were not hostile because there was a barbershop next door and a police station around the corner.
I went into the restaurant and immediately noticed that it was very clean and brite, but I was having takeout tonight. I was greeted by 2 very beautiful young ladies behind a counter with lots of desserts on display.
One of the young ladies asked me what I would like to order and I looked up at the huge menu attached to the wall. She gave me a printed menu and said it would be easier to read. After going over the many options, I decided on a platter with 4 fried chicken wings and collard greens and mac& cheese, she said that I have to try their potato salad because it was delicious so I ordered that too.
Surprisingly the tab came to less than $10. I was having a conversation with her about the business and she told me that it was a family owned and run restaurant that had been open for years. She was so young, her breath smelled like Carnation milk and it was hard to believe that she knew so much about the business.
After drowning my wings and greens in hot sauce I was on my way home. A few minutes and 1 devoured chicken wing later, I arrived home to finish off my prey. The wings were crispy and seasoned well, the greens were smokey & tender, the mac & cheese was cheesy and with a slight crunch on the top, and the potato salad was everything she said it would be!
I had a great meal and I'm looking forward to trying more of TyeMeka's good ole home-style cooking.
