My family and I were taking a road trip to Oklahoma and we were passing through Amarillo, TX and didn't want to miss out on the opportunity of having some Texas BBQ. First place that showed up on yelp was Tylers Barbeque, so we decided to give it a try.
We definitely made the right choice. Right when you walk in, the place is decked out in TX Style Fashion. Old pick up trucks right in the front with Tyler's logo, cowboy boots and lots of cool signs to look at. The ambiance was giving "you're in Texas" vibes.
This is one of those BBQ places where you order at the counter and get your food on a tray and sit down. They had plenty of options to choose from but we came at the end of the day so they only had a few meat options left to choose from.
What we ate:
My sister and I pretty much got the same thing which was the #2 Sandwich which included 2 meats, one side, & a medium drink. For my meats I chose chopped/sliced brisket and hotlink sausages. I ended up choosing the Jalapeño cream corn as my side and I'll say you can't go wrong with creamy corn with a kick. This meal was absolutely delicious. As my drink, I got the sweet tea...unfortunately it tasted very watered down and was really hoping for some TEXAS sweet tea, but I will say we came at the end of the day so it could have been that. Nothing that was a deal breaker.
My mom had the dinner plate that came with two meats, two sides, and Texas toast. She ended up with ribs, brisket, jalapeño cream corn, and chips. She described the meat as really tender and flavorful.
My dad also got a dinner plate and shared with my youngest sister. They chose brisket, hotlink sausage, Texas toast, beans, and chips. According to my dad, the brisket was juicy and tender so much so you could cut it like butter without the meat falling apart. The beans were really good but wish there was a little kick in it.
According to my bf the coleslaw was top tier. I will say I wish there was cornbread or Mac n cheese as a side option.
We ended up chit-chatting with the owner and bbq chef himself, Tyler. He was a great guy who had a lot of stories about the military and Air Force aircrafts (my family is a big military family). He was very friendly, super inviting, and overall his presence and food were greatly appreciated.
Overall, highly recommend coming to this bbq spot whether you are local or passing through the city. Food, service, and ambiance was amazing. This would be a great summer spot to go to as well. Oh, I also forgot to mention that they had plenty of bbq sauce options including their homemade sauces. We ended up buying some to take home. Thank you Tyler for the amazing Texas bbq experience!
