London’s New Restaurant Openings

"Hotel restaurants get a bad rep, but we were fans of this chef's last spot—Aqua Kyoto—so have high hopes for Uba, which will be taking over the kitchen at Hart Shoreditch Hotel. The pan-Asian menu is separated into sashimi, sushi, robata, and teppanyaki dishes, plus dim sum, ramen, hirata buns, and tacos. There’s also matcha tiramisu for dessert. Came here for dinner and I was pleasantly surprised. I live close by but I had never been and ended up going for a causal dinner in my local area on a Friday night. It was easy to get the reservation, the service was fast, the ambience was great. I will say the sushi was phenomenal, tasted fresh, the soy sauce was great quality too. Will definitely be back for the sushi.

I went for dinner for my birthday — it was a last-minute booking. We were assigned a waiter who was on trial; he did his best but wasn’t very familiar with the menu, which was surprising given that we’d mentioned a dietary requirement. The cocktails were disappointing, so I ordered a gin and lemonade instead, which took about 15 minutes to arrive. We ordered a few appetisers, but one was missing. We were told it would take up to 25 minutes, yet 40 minutes later it still hadn’t arrived when we asked our waiter. Overall, the service was slow and the experience was quite underwhelming. We eventually left and went elsewhere, as the birthday meal was a letdown.

This beautifully appointed restaurant is actually part of the Hart Shoreditch Hotel, but it doesn’t feel like a hotel restaurant and has a separate entrance. The food was excellent but the wine list was disappointing. Of the white wines listed, I believe that only three were actually available. The New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc was fine, but wasn’t our first choice. I think cocktails are more their specialty. There was a mix up with the final bill and we were accidentally overcharged. The staff were, however, excellent in trying to resolve if after the bill had already been paid. The stairs down to the restaurant/hotel bathrooms are elegantly decorated; another nice feature. Overall a good experience with a couple of issues, but I would definitely return.

I went last night for dinner with a friend and was lucky to find a table as the restaurant was nearly full. There is not much choice in the menu but the dishes were all perfectly executed and tasty. There was a problem with the wine but Wayne came over and sorted everything. The service needs a little to be looked into but a part from that everything else is 5 stars

Had a great time here with my girls. Perfect for a spontaneous dinner and/or date night! Food was so good we kept ordering. The California Maki?! With the lobster misto?!!! Insane. We ended up ordering 3 portions of the rock shrimp. So addictive. Also, special shout out to John-Paul. Thank you so much (and sorry!) for putting up with me and so kindly offering me alternative cocktail options with a smile. You’re in the safest pair of hands when it comes to drink recommends, my friends love what he suggest we order after asking us our taste preferences. Really appreciate the service of all staff at Uba. Defo coming back.

I enjoyed a private dining experience for my sisters birthday here in May. The food was incredibly delicious, the service was fabulous and the private dining room is beautiful and perfect for a group of 12. Destiny and Luca were particularly amazing, Destiny kept our drinks flowing and was overall so friendly and inviting. She is a great asset to the team! The only thing that would make private dining at UBA better would be if you could control the music in the room, that was the only thing that took away from our experience. It was my second time dining here and I’ll definitely be back!

Very nice and stylish restaurante that offers asian cuisine. I tried some tacos and the one with beef was not too good in my view as the meat was too hard. I liked very much the one with chicken. Very good also the buns! I tried also the mochi dessert but they were too cold, almost frozen. I got 15% discount from the hotel and i appreciated the offer but next time i think ill make different food selection

Dined at this stunning Pan-Asian restaurant and was immediately struck by the elegant decor, absolutely perfect and ideal for a special night out. The ambience was refined, and the staff were warm and attentive throughout. Every dish we tried was delicious and beautifully presented. My only wish? Slightly larger portions to match the richness of the experience. Still, it was a memorable meal in a truly gorgeous setting. Would definitely recommend for anyone looking to enjoy elevated Asian cuisine in a stylish atmosphere.
