13 Stellar Places to Eat Brazilian Food in Los Angeles

"Ubatuba Açaí owner Daniela Demetrio, whose family hails from Ubatuba, Sâo Paulo — a lovely beach town three hours east of Brazil’s largest city — opened the first branch of her now 19-unit açai chain back in 2014. Each month, a container arrives from Brazil filled with Demetrio’s açai base, blended from berries near the city of Belém for her signature bowls, bursting with tropical fruit flavors — grainy and as intense as you’ll find anywhere in Brazil." - Bill Esparza, Mona Holmes

Google
For sure this is the best açaí I’ve had in Los Angeles. It’s better than the best in the OC, where I’ve had the worst açaí I’ve ever had. Lately I’ve been coming at around 10 am. I’ve ordered Puruba bowls with honey and bee pollen and high cost about $15. At around this time you can often find free parking in the lot. I’ve mostly ordered açaí on doordash. Today I saw a parking spot and left as soon as I git my food. Even though Ubatuba is a chain it has maintained considerable quality over other similar chains. Even though it’s a chain they manage to seem like they’re not which is good. Big, enormous drawback: parking is now almost always valet. Absolutely lame. C’est la vie in Koreatown… The prices aren’t that bad. I pretty much always get a medium Puruba. It has açaí, granola, strawberries, pineapple and passion fruit pulp. I add bee pollen. I also like their pao de queijo. Sometimes it’s hard and dry and truly awful, but when you get a good batch it’s quite good. Not the best I’ve had though. I’ve also tried the empanadas which are decent but expensive, and are made elsewhere. The place is usually empty so there’s no ambiance. Most people do take out. Service is quite friendly and fast. Valet parking. Ugh

Google
Great taste. Insane prices. $17 for açaí bowl is nuts. Also parking is tragic here at night. Good luck.

Google
Great Acai bowls, fruit is fresh, and presentation is 5+ stars. It is a good place to relax and enjoy healthy meal. Atmosphere is light and you can enjoy board games and good music. Will come back again!

Rebecca Red

Google
Usually not a fan of acai bowls, but these were incredible!! Loved the granola and super fresh fruit. Also had the cheese bread and empanadas, perfect lunch.

Alex Mendoza

Google
I went down to grab my usual treat. An acai bowl with a mango base with banana and strawberry for my toppings. This place never skips a beat, very consistent! I'll be returning when the craving hits.

Jayden Lee

Google
I order a alamada but they didn’t add the things that were in it and I said for the extra in there too but they only add the extra toppings not the fruits that were suppose to be there.

Google
As a returning customer, I have to say I’m really disappointed with the quality and value at this location. The strawberries and blueberries are consistently very sour, which throws off the balance of the bowl. But the biggest issue is the amount of açaí—they are incredibly stingy with it. While the açaí itself is tasty, the portion is so small that it feels like you’re paying mostly for toppings and granola rather than what should be the main ingredient. For $17 a bowl, I expect way better. What’s even more frustrating is that the large bowl here is the same size as the medium at the Santa Monica location, which means you’re getting significantly less for the same price. It’s just not worth it when other locations are offering better portions and quality for the same cost. If you’re looking for value, this isn’t the place. I won’t be coming back unless they improve their portion sizes and fruit quality.

Google
One of my favourite places for a quick healthy snack. Good prices and friendly staff. Hight quality food and big portions. The Açai smoothie is one of the best I’ve ever tried. Also the açai bowls and empanadas are great. Highly recommend it.

Yelp
I was greeted with a smile and the rest of the staff was nice and friendly as well. I ordered the Almada bowl, chik'n jalapeno empanada and the beyond empanada. The empanadas were delicious, and the two sauces were a great accompaniment to them. I'll be back for the empanadas. The bowl was ok.

Yelp
I love this place so much. Very clean and bright inside the restaurant, all the staff are very friendly and nice. I usually get medium açaí bowl with some fruit and Greek yogurt. My daughter gets almost the same thing but she loves to add some honey drizzle. Very tasty, and everything tastes very fresh too. Reasonable price as well.
google avatar

Laura L.

Yelp
I love ubatuba! The portion sizes were pretty big for its price and you could get a huge scoop for each topping. Overall it is a very LA place and the ambiance reflects that. Service was as expected! We each got a medium and I think that was pretty good for a light snack before our afternoon activities.

Yelp
Ambiance: I've been to this brand's other locations, most are good for takeout, and this place us one of the bigger stores, and there are dining in tables available Service: very friendly and patient with requests Food: you can choose standard bowls or make your own and pick up to four toppings Alameda Bowl - **** Açaí topped with BANANA, STRAWBERRIES, BLUEBERRIES, and GRANOLA, can request to add honey, which is one of their most popular recipes, balanced taste and nutritions, recommend EMPANADA - *** Chik'n Salsa Verde, very filling but a bit too dry Price: moderate portions, and it costs about $15 for a light healthy meal

Yelp
A cool spot that was so amazing it made me try Acai for the first time! If the Acai craze didn't get me to try Acai a while back, what will? Well, this spot. I have to say my willingness was increased by the friendly staff that and all my annoying questions. Another incentive was they have empanadas! I am weak when it comes to any form of empanadas. I believe these are the type made from Argentina I always order a combination of Acai bowl with bananas, blue berries and strawberries and an empanada. The mix of these two flavors cannot be denied! Just try it! My favorites are meat empanadas. The service is super friendly and nice. I don't have to wait too long to get anything. Parking is valet as is most of the surrounding area. The ambiance is delicious food! What else do you need. Definitely addicted.
google avatar

Kevin X.

Yelp
The acai here is pretty sweet, but the toppings options are plentiful. Good enough if craving acai and in the area. Ample space inside to sit and chill. In a plaza with valet parking for evening time.
google avatar

Daniela V.

Yelp
wow what an amazing açaí place and i'm not even kidding! the place is so modern and spacious but the açaí exceeded all my expectations; I ordered the medium california bowl with oatmilk and it tasted soooo good and refreshing. I loved all my toppings because it complemented my açaí bowl so well. I also ordered their cheese and spinach empanada that did not disappoint. Overall great food and service.
google avatar

Yelp
This location always has the kindest employees- always and forever coming back to this one! Inside is a very open space, minimally furnished. I don't think I've ever seen anyone sitting to eat their acai bowls. The few customers that were in while I was there, got theirs 'to go' and then left. One guy even got a smoothie- which I didn't know they did (did you?). I'll always be coming to this location to get my bowls and hey, maybe they will finally have the spinach empanadas available as I swear they're always out when I'm there
google avatar

Deon B.

Yelp
My favorite acai bowls in LA. So fresh and delicious. The service speed is pretty moderate depending on the time of day, but good nonetheless. Perfect snack/dessert.
google avatar

Ju L.

Yelp
Personally, the best place to get acai bowl. The price of their bowls have been gradually increasing. I still remember when a bowl was under $10. But, it is sooo good that it is a treat for myself once in awhile. I usually go for their puruba or armada. This time, my sister wanted to share a puruba so that's what we did. Service is great, and I try to always get either honey or agave. I would ask if they forget to ask me sometimes. The store has seating and a bathroom so can come for a casual meet up with friends and family.
google avatar

Angela P.

Yelp
As much as I love their acai bowls, it's so sad to see how much their prices have gone up (as for a lot of other goods in LA in general). $11 for a small bowl!? I remember when it used to be nearly half the price a few years ago. I used to be able to customize my bowl with whatever toppings I want, but now I'm limited to a few options with preselected toppings. Maybe there was a way to customize your own bowl, but that was not clear on the menu. Enjoyed my Felix acai bowl though I most likely will go elsewhere that has more bang for your buck.

Yelp
I was so curious about an Acai joint in the middle of Ktown. They have a nice location, and the dining area is so spacious. There is a small private lot, but it's valet parking. There might be 1-2 spots in front, but you'll have to be lucky to grab it. Otherwise there is street parking on the adjacent streets. The Acai itself didn't taste good to me. It tasted like artificial bubble gum flavor. The medium size bowl was a generous portion though. There was about 3 ice cream-sized scoops. The fruits were very fresh. I loved the strawberry, mango, and pineapple. Interesting to note: they have a water refill station in the back!! Bring your reusable water bottles!

Yelp
I was looking for a refreshing acai bowl in the area and came across this place in Koreatown and decided to give it a try. I entered the restaurant and the place was nicely kept; however, the parking situation was a nightmare. The parking lot is so small and has so many cars passing through that you need someone else to valet your car. The first 15 minutes are free so we went inside quickly to try to order and finish our meal before the 15 minutes. The staff there were really friendly when we were ordering we ended up getting a acai bowl and some empanadas too, which I didn't expect since I never seen those two offered at the same place but I was all for it. I thought the acai bowl was okay the texture of the it was strange since it was sort of frozen which I didn't enjoy. The empanadas were great though they came out so warm and it came bursting with flavor in every bite. Although the parking situation isn't part of the food experience I feel like there's a high barrier of entry for just getting into the place. That in combination with the okay tasting acai bowl makes the experience really for the empanadas and although they were good I don't think it's something where you should be going out of your way for.
google avatar

Alejandra P.

Yelp
I had such a good experience here. I came in to try the açaí bowls and I selected the fruit of my choose. Everything was so fresh and flavorful. Hearty but healthy and subtle. The staff was so friendly from the time I walked in to the time I left. The place was nice to sit in and enjoy. I loved that they had vegan empanadas as an option. The jalapeño chicken one was BOMB. Just the right amount of filling. Crispy on outside and soft inside. I would definitely return. Parking on site.

Yelp
Medium açaí bowl 3/5 I tried the açaí bowl at another ubatuba location and it was really good but this one wasn't that good. The açaí was a little more icey and not smooth. Portions were a lot smaller too. It looks so tiny in the bowl. Nutella empanada 1/5 I do not recommend this. There was too much filling and it wasn't even good. The outside of the empanada is also pretty oily and th combination of the Nutella and empanada wrapping was just weird. There's plenty of seats and when we came on a Saturday night it was pretty empty.

Aakash S.

Yelp
This Ubatuba location appears to be very different from the other Ubatuba locations: *The smallest size at this location is a 16oz bowl, vs the other locations that offer a 12oz bowl as their small - great for when you want a small snack and not anything larger. *This location includes only 4 toppings in the bowl. At most acai places, I usually get about 4-5 fruits, and about 5-6 toppings. At this location, each topping beyond the 4 toppings is charged $1 per topping, which can easily add up. *This location offers only acai base. Other locations offer other base options in addition to acai. *This location does not offer chia pudding. Other locations offer chia pudding. *You have to pre-order your bowl and specify your toppings at the register and don't get to see it being prepared where you asked what you would like - I prefer seeing the prep and specifying what I'd like. Note the parking can be difficult. I tried to come a few weeks ago and had to end up leaving due to lack of self-parking. As for positives, the staff was nice, and the interior was clean and inviting. But I do not plan to visit again.

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday night and got the Puruba Acai Bowl + Mushroom empanada (they serve Nona's). It wasn't too busy when we came, so we just ordered and waited 10min - lots of people come in to order to-go Acai bowl was unexpectedly very large! We added honey which was a nice balance and went well with the fruits. Enjoyed it as an after meal treat, but think Acai bowls are best for breakfast :) Ate the mushroom empanada the next day and it was good! Sort of random they sell them together at this place, but they're good and warm them up for you. They give this green sauce with it and it's spectacular! I think for both - it comes out to ~13-14$, which can be a tad pricey
google avatar

Emily J.

Yelp
Very friendly staff, which makes a difference when it's super busy. Love the acai here. I know it's a chain but that hasn't stopped them from keeping the quality high. Also... they give you very large amounts of toppings when you ask for extras. Soooo much banana. I've had my potassium fill for the week.
google avatar

Stella H.

Yelp
Super sweeet Brazilian workers, clean spot, very spacious! The acai here is unlike the other ones because it's usually watery but this one is very non processed and you can taste the grains in it. Perfect when topped with the fruits and granola! I'll be back for the empanadas
google avatar

Trevor R.

Yelp
I mean what not to say about this place 10/10! They honestly hit the mark every time. The service is excellent - if Jessica is there you are in for a treat (she's the best and makes the best bowls) If you want real Acai and not a smoothie then this is the place you need to be at. With fresh fruit every time- I've still have yet to find another Acai spot better. I usually get the Almada (sp) medium and it is quite filling too They also have empanadas which are good but pricey. Must try THIS LOCATION!
google avatar

Johlyn P.

Yelp
Worst location. They give u mostly toppings, there's barely acai in the large size bowl. At $20 I'm eating spoonfuls of just granola.
google avatar

J. D.

Yelp
Everything tastes good until I found a piece of plastic in my fruit by biting into it. Disgusting and dangerous. Please check into this. Thanks. Ordered on doordash 12/28. Approx. 7:30 pm.

Josh T.

Yelp
The portion is really off here. You're getting a açaí bowl with maybe 2-3 strawberry's, no joke a dusting of granola, and a few cubes of pineapple? What are you paying for here. There should be at least a real portion of granola, especially for someone trying to use this as a meal replacement.
google avatar

Hye Kyung K.

Yelp
I got a small almada (add pineapple, mango, kiwi) The fruits were sweet and generous. The acai itself tastes a bit different from what I remember from years ago when I tried this place: the texture is really icey/grainy now. It wasn't too busy but there was a bit of a wait to get the bowl.
google avatar

Adam T.

Yelp
I'm a little picky with açaí bowls. This was an ok bowl. It could be that I also order the wrong thing. But mine was pretty typical. One good note is that the fruit was super fresh. You can't see it in this picture, but my friend ordered something different and her fruit was really good. Worth trying if you are walking in the area. But I wouldn't make a special trip. Especially because of the parking lot. Parking is always tricky in KTown but valet for an açaí bowl and waiting in line was a little much. The parking attendants were really good though and fast. Just overall, that parking lot is tricky.
google avatar

Lina C.

Yelp
Best açaí place in koreatown! Their empanadas are so good too. Hassan was so friendly and gave great recommendations. You can build your own or choose their combinations are great too. I would just come back for the service since açaí places are very similar
google avatar

Francine A.

Yelp
I love their acai bowls but what I love most is their empanadas!! The filling is amazing and the pastry is super flaky! Y'all should definitely try it!
google avatar

George A.

Yelp
Damn that was really good! I had the Felix bowl and added strawberry and blueberries. They are very generous with the portions. Friendly service and they weee playing some good music. I like this place. Stop by if you are in the area.

Mio O.

Yelp
this is first time here! Norman, Augusto and Jenny were so nice and kind! I love their vibes. their açai is the best in LA! I will definitely come back and recommend you to go! thay gave us free foods because we reviewed on yelp! that was also great! thank you so much!
google avatar

Eve V.

Yelp
I love a good acai bowl, and Ubatuba delivers! The Almada bowl is the most popular option and I can see why. It's a classic with bananas, strawberries, and blueberries, you can also create your own if you're feeling more adventurous. To me, the acai and fruit on their own are sweet enough so I skip the honey, but that is just me. The service was good and the ambiance was chill. There are long tables and plenty of seating if you want to enjoy your bowl in-house.
google avatar

Melissa W.

Yelp
I got DoorDash so note that my review is coming from a delivery order. It's not too bad. I like making my own acais. The cheese bread was good. Nutella empanada was a mixture of like Nutella and something else? Not bad but not amazing. Passion fruit on my acai was tasty. I really just want more cheese puffs!
google avatar

Angelina L.

Yelp
Had heard some friends raving about this açaí place and I finally had the chance to stop by. The place is quite big with some tables inside, great to hangout with friends and to chill from the heat. Medium to go bowl with passion fruit, pineapple, strawberry, and granola. This bowl tasted tropical, with hint of tang and sweetness from the pineapple. Medium to go bowl with banana, strawberry, blueberry, and granola. This bowl had a sweeter profile, with strong banana smell. The açaí itself was not as sweet as açaí from other places, seemed like they didn't add much sweetener to it which is awesome. However, I felt like eating granola bowl more than eating an acai bowl as the amount of açaí wasn't as much as expected. I could feel the crunch of granola in every bite with so little açaí to scoop out.
google avatar

Maria S.

Yelp
I love this place! Delicious açaí bowls and empanadas, what could be better? Reasonably priced too. Customer service is always excellent. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Audrey I.

Yelp
Best açaí bowls in the LA area! They're not terribly expensive, a trait most smoothie bowls share. In fact, a medium Ubatuba bowl (which would be a large at most places) is priced at only 10 bucks. Do note that their bowls have a solid, shaved ice-esque consistency, an indication that they use more frozen açaí than fillers such as nut milk or juice! I've tried their whole menu and recommend the Cedro! But, you can never go wrong with any of their offerings; with their signature base, anything's bound to be a crowd-pleaser!

Samor T.

Yelp
Flavors are great but there's always something missing in my order whether it's delivery or in person something is always missing . I remember when they first opened and it was top notch but over the years employees have changed and it just isn't the same anymore . Spacious enough to enjoy whatever you order or remind them something is missing
google avatar

Jen L.

Yelp
My favorite acai bowl place! I always get the Ubatuba bowl Brazilian style (classic and I don't want milk, etc. in my bowl) which already has strawberries and bananas, so I add on mango or blueberries. Their portions are generous compared to those of other places, and the fruit is always fresh. Their acai is legit (and not watered down or basically shaved ice with "acai flavoring" like I found at a different Ubatuba location). Great and quick customer service!
google avatar

Leonard A.

Yelp
Looking for a tasty twosome of sweet and savory or savory and sweet that will put a tongue tingle to our tastebuds all the way to our feet?! You've come to the right street for these two tasty treats. The Açaí bowls are on point with toppings and flavor and I'm writing this after experiencing the Cedro bowl that came with bananas, mango and toasted almonds surrounded by chocolate chips. Man that was such a sweet bowl of delight! And to accompany my bowl of fun I had one of their heavily sought after Nona empanadas. So the one I choose was something I've never tried before and that was, Dun Dun Dun! The Nutella! After my first monster bite starting from the middle I felt the ooze of Oreo cookies, cream cheese all swirled with the silky slick Nutella! This made me Moana and Groana and want to be Alona kinda like Sméagol from Lord of the Rings and his precious! So that's how it made me feel. At the end of it all, it was a tasty adventure along with the positive customer service. And that's my take on this adventure, Peace

Tiffany C.

Yelp
Good, but basic and nothing really unique about their acai bowls. They have 4 options for acai bowls. I've been to other places where you can customize it, but they don't really have that option here. I wouldn't say anything really stands out. They serve acai bowls and empanadas Less than a 5 minute wait for the acai bowl, the empanada took a little longer. This is located in a strip mall with several places to park, however, it was super crowded so we ended up having to park across the street.

Jiwon C.

Yelp
Worst location to go to. I asked for condensed milk, because the worker missed to add condensed milk to my order. When I asked for condensed milk the girl employee looks at me and says "fuck". Long story short, they missed 2 things on my order which I was charged EXTRA for. And when I asked politely to give me my order on the side, they stared and was very very RUDE. Not only the employees are rude, but the empanadas are EXPENSIVE, DRY && HARD.
google avatar

Esther J.

Yelp
Amazing! I loved their thick, icy, delicious açaí. I'm very particular with my açaí and I hate watery slush açaí, but I never have to worry about that with Ubatuba's bowls. The granola was also amazing and the bananas, blueberries, and strawberries on top were fresh and tasty. I highly recommend a honey glaze to bring all the flavors together! I am so pleasantly impressed by the rich and perfectly savory and sweet flavor of their açaí, that I will definitely be back. They lasted a 15 minute car ride back home and were still icy and thick. Also so impressed by their many vegan empanada options! The beyond meat empanada was my favorite :) so rare to see a place offers beyond empanadas! The girl working at the front was so friendly and had a warm smile the whole time! Loved the clean and spacious interior of Ubatuba as well. Lacking one star because I wish they had more topping options like toasted coconut, almond butter, chia, flax, matcha powder.

Sam O.

Yelp
Was one of their first customers when they opened almost 10 years ago and the service is always amazing , the açaí always taste fresh , the prices have gone up but they everywhere else so no big deal for the portions you are getting ! I try coming weekly if I'm in the area I saw they opened other locations but this is my favorite!
google avatar

Rani Z.

Yelp
Time & Date: Friday, 6/18/21 @ 3pm Dining: no indoor or outdoor dining Ordered: Almada Acai Bowl size large ($14) This is your classic açaí bowl with bananas, blueberries, and strawberries. You can also drizzle honey or agave on top for not extra cost. If you want to add additional fruit toppings, it's $0.75 per topping. I ordered size large and or was massive, definitely a sharing size! The actual açaí base was thick and chunky, not like the super runny ones you sometimes see in açaí bowls. Overall the fruit and açaí were very fresh!
google avatar

Dara W.

Yelp
The fruit was nasty. Most of it was rotten. I got some extra fruit on the side, I don't even want to pick through it. The service wasn't the best. Nothing to rave about. The fruit on the side , the strawberry had a chunk missing like they cut off the rotten part and the mango had a lot of dark spots that taste rotten. Very poor experience.

Andy S.

Yelp
Sat in front of servers at a nearly empty restaurant for 15 min before they even put the empanadas we ordered into the oven. But, the empanadas were delicious. This is why I hate tipping at the counter before food is served, people literally forget u exist then act surprised when u remind them that you've just paid them money for food.
google avatar

Rob C.

Yelp
Came here once and knew I would love coming here again so here I am once again! And so far it's all been good here. I had two of their Acai bowls and I'm definitely won over by what else they have in store here. You really can't go wrong with their choices that will make you want to come back. The third times a charm so it's definitely long overdue for a review. I'll always stop by when I'm on this side of town

javier v.

Yelp
Supposed to be a almada medium açaí bowl I send someone to Oder it for me with a detailed text msg the cashier /supervisor took the order (wrong) I called to let them know and she instead that the person I send showed her a different msg without the word almada in so was putting blame on my mom and me and told me to next time "order online so they can make it like I want it " . I go everyday before work and get a bowl with an empanada never been told what to do by a random person like that really disappointed. Hope higher management contacts me. And everybody was always so nice when I went in to order

Plè A.

Yelp
Been coming here for years. This was my favorite place to eat in LA. Prices went up, and the customer services has changed for the worst. The staff used to be amazing. The last couple times I've been there, I've been getting skimped on granola. I tried to tell one of the workers and she cut me off atleast 5 times before I could tell her the issue. She didn't care at all and kept telling me it's going to be a dollar extra for more. Not sure why she wasn't trying to hear me, but it didn't sit well. The black lady with the glasses is the best & nicest person there, as she's been there for years. Didn't enjoy my last few experiences due to the RUDE customer service.
google avatar

CJ C.

Yelp
The service here is good and there is a lot of space to eat and enjoy the acai. I really like the area and vibe inside is nice.

Yelp
We usually go to the one in Burbank but stopped here because we were in the area. You don't get to see the bowl being made like we do in Burbank. The employees were very slow and spent a lot of time talking to one another while a line of people were waiting for their food. Overall, we love ubatuba but the service was not good here
