Udon Mugizo Mountain View

We met some friends for lunch, they say this is their favorite for noodles. We got seated right away, we ordered tempura appetizers as well as 4 different soups. I tried Tonkatsu Udon, the textures were very nice, I wished it could have been a hotter broth. Perhaps after adding a cool-ish topping, it cools down the broth. Also tried the Mentai Cream Sauce Udon. It was creamy with a seafood taste, I think we are use to broth-y udon styles. The tempura was nice and crispy, it also came with a side of ginger and daikon to add to the dipping sauce. Service was welcoming and efficient.

This is by far the best udon I have had. The flavors were very complex and the dishes were served shortly after ordering. I enjoyed it so much I went back the next day to try other menu items. I highly recommend the Tonkotsu udon deluxe, I opted for the large which was too much as it is filled with meat. The Katsu curry udon is also very delicious and comes in a large portion. If you are looking for a carbonara style udon go for the Mentai cream sauce.

I've come here a few times before, but this was a my first time back in a couple years. The food is just as good as I remember. I also brought my toddler along and was surprised by how kid friendly this place is! I loved how the kids' meal was compartmentalized because it made my toddler more willing to try bits and pieces of it even though she can be picky. She also loved the chicken kurage appetizer. I got the Tonkotsu Udon and it was delicious. It's always nice to eat outside here, but it was a bit cold so we ate inside. My only complaint is that the brick wall makes it very loud when they're busy. Other than that we had a great experience!

Udon Mugizo in Mountain View is a standout for anyone craving authentic, handmade noodles with a perfect chew. Really yummy. For $19 I got a very filling curry udon bowl. Would recommend. There was a bit of a wait though on a Thursday ~7:45pm. Join the wait-list early on Yelp. Also got some edamame which was good but not amazing, probably wouldn't get that again. Would be interested in trying the tempura curry udon next time since fish cake in the normal one doesn't add much.

I’ve been meaning to go here for ages! It’s not that egg free vegetarian friendly, but once we had a group of all meat eaters, this was the place to go! I got the large Niku ramen, which I ate to overfilling and still had so much left over that it lasted me another full meal and a half meal after that. I also tried the onigiri, which was fried. It was yummy but I don’t think it was worth it for the $10 price tag. The tonkatsu udon looked like they had a creamier, more flavorful broth, but mine wasn’t bad. The location has friendly staff and large booth style seating. They also have a clean bathroom in the back. I would come again next time I want rudon!

Large menu priced where you'd expect a Japanese spot in Mountain View. For two people, our table had 2 sukiyakis, okonomiyaki, corn tempura, and gyoza. All tasted good but wish the food temp was a little hotter. Waitstaff was very attentive and the food came out fast.

The veggie udon was phenomenal, so flavorful and can be made hot or cold with soy meat. Though the ingredients are plant based, they don’t separate food prep areas however so stricter vegans might be out of luck. The rest of the menu is limited for vegan options as things like tofu have fish broth or seasonings

Went here to celebrate my birthday with a few friends and it was pretty cool. This is the third location of Udon Mugizo that I have visited and the noodles are the best. Definitely recommend getting the cream mentai Udon with egg. A friend of mine tried the lychee soda and it was honestly not as good as it looked. It had a cool light in it, though, which was a cool extra thing. Staff was super helpful. The service was honestly the fastest I've ever had in any of the locations and the vibe in this location was the best as well since it had like a good wooden feel, and the seating area looked like there was more space than any if the other locations.

Had a chance to try Udon Mugizo with some friends and this as a nice experience! Thankfully my friend had stood in line and we were seated promptly. The place was pretty crowded but it is a nice spot to try different udon specialties. The ambiance was nice and service was fast as well. For food we tried: *Tonkotsu - this one was yummy - not too heavy and overly creamy. This came with egg and pieces of chashu which was nice as well as crispy pieces of tempura! * Mentai cream sauce udon - if you are looking for a heavy creamy udon, then this is a good dish for you! I enjoyed this, but this is on the heavier side. Overall the food was yummy and we enjoyed thoroughly.

Tempura Udon was very satisfying. The tempura was crisp and light. The udon was a nice level of chewy. The soup was excellent. Service was great and very attentive. Beautiful restaurant.

Would you pay $41 for two Udon dishes for lunch? Came here Mon Oct 30 , 2023 around noon for lunch, having walked from Kaiser Permanente lab office on Castro several blocks down the street. Cold day so nobody in their right mind was eating outside. Cozy cramped quarters but generally good ambiance in a clean setting. Ordered at 12:03, and received dishes by 12:19pm. My $21 Tonkatsu Udon deluxe came with pork and fish broth, several chunks of pork chasu, shrimp tempura, a boiled egg, garlic, green onions, spinach, and fish powder. A bit oily, but not too salty, and huge amount of udon noodles, some the best that I've ever tasted. Wife's $20 Nabeyaki Udon came with a poached egg, 2 shrimp tempura, chicken, fish cake, maitake mushrooms, green onions in a clay pot. Wife always complains of her dishes being too salty. Usually she leaves a pool of too salty broth. Not this time, as everything was perfect. She slurped all of it down to the last drop. Not sure if the clay pot made much difference in taste, as no crusted rice hanging onto the side. No need to buy a large bowl when a regular bowl will do just fine. No need to get the Tonkatsu Udon deluxe, as it comes with pork belly, which is basically fat like in bacon, and probably shortened my lifespan a few days with its artery clogging properties. I guess Monday is a slow day, as only five couples, three of them ladies speaking in Japanese. And I was the only male customer.

Sat outdoors with our dog. Menus were brought quickly and the food arrived pretty quickly as well. I had the combo with mini rice bowl (with tonkatsu egg skillet) and mini udon. My wife had tonkatsu udon. We both enjoyed the meal. Flavors were good, not at all over seasoned. Portions were reasonably sized and we were very content after our lunch there. Service was friendly and pleasant. We'll look forward to coming again with our daughter.

I've been to udon mugizo a few times (and in different locations) and I will say that their food is consistent among the different locations! I believe they're known for their creamy udon dishes and I have ordered it in the SJ spot, but I decided to opt for the nabeyaki udon this time at Mountain View. Serving size is very generous and taste is the perfect amount of umami. I also shared the agedashi tofu with my friend when we went and we enjoyed it! It was easy to get a table for us since we showed up earlier. I don't think this location is as busy compared to the others but there seemed to be a bit of a dinner rush when we left.

There's inside and outside seating. It is located in a pedestrianized area of Castro Street. Ambiance is quite modern with dark and light woods. There is a room where they make their own udon. We ordered the Beef Sukiyaki Nabeyaki Udon and it's quite delicious. Udon doesn't have the chew I was looking forward to considering that it's made in store. I thought they would be experts on this. I had higher expectations on the udon as this was what this restaurant specializes in. We also ordered the Assorted Tempura. All except the squid were good. The squid had a weird texture to it. I wouldn't have guessed it's squid had I not read it on the menu. It tasted more like old and dried fish without the flake.

Very comparable to Marugame Udon! I ordered the Niku udon & really enjoyed it. The egg inside adds a ton of flavor & the broth is satisfying & delicious. I would say that the beef inside the udon is not as tender as Marugame. We also shared an order of pumpkin tempura which was the star of the show for me!! One of the best tempuras I've had, very fresh and crispy batter.

We were seated right away on a Saturday evening at 6:30. Within the hour the indoor space had filled and there were people waiting. Parking on the street can be difficult later into the evening and the area is popular and filled with shops and restaurants. What we ordered: Assorted Tempura, Tempura Gyoza, Tonkatsu Udon Deluxe, and Curry Udon. Everything was delicious! The pork kakuni piece was meaty - not all fat like you get from other restaurants. There was definitely a good amount of meat and my partner who has a healthy appetite, wasn't able to finish his bowl. I'm a big Japanese curry fan and I'd give their curry here 4/5 stars. It has a spiciness to it, but it's a little sweeter than I would have liked. Tempura Gyoza - 5/5 Tempura Corn fritter - 2/5 Udon Mugizo is definitely on our restaurant list to return to once the colder months are back.

I came here on a whim and it did not disappoint! I ordered the Curry Shrimp Tempura Udon and IT WAS SO GOOD. The udon was perfectly chewy and the curry was flavorful but not overpowering. The shrimp tempura was pretty good, but the corn tempura appetizer was better. Highly recommend this place for some solid udon.

Cute interior/atmosphere. Nice serving bowls. My Niku Bukkake cold udon dish... Pros: They have delicious chewy udon noodles. The portion size for regular was a good amount. Cons: I wished it was a bit colder. And a hint of acidity (lemon or lime) would have been nice. The sauce/broth doesn't quite compare to my favorite Niku udon at Yume. If you are a fan of Italian sauces but also wanted udon, you can try one of their creamy ones. It has good flavor but it's not my preference as I prefer the more traditional asian sauce or broth with my udon. They also have a tonkatsu curry udon that is pretty good.

Very good but not great. I visited with a small group of friends and ordered Tonkatsu Udon. We all enjoyed our food but nothing stood out to us. The rice noodles were chewy, the broth flavorful and you'll appreciate the care taken with the interior space. Everything was perfectly acceptable but nothing made me go "wow!"- And for these prices I expected a wow. Your results may vary of course.

I recently visited this udon place and was absolutely blown away by their creamy udon! Nice, attentive service and relatively worth-it prices! The tonkotsu chashu udon comes with an ample amount of meat, which is quite rare for ramen/udon restaurants, and the toppings in the bowl are quite good for the price! While this is still at a moderately expensive price, the amount and quality do well to justify the price. I had a bite of the mentai cream sauce udon (which I highly recommend for people who love strong umami), and while it is super tasty and rich, it is a little salty and heavy; I wonder if it could possibly be as tasty without being so overpowering. The entrance is interestingly designed and outdoor seating helps with providing different eating experiences. Overall, this is a solid place for a meal if you don't mind spending 15-25 dollars.

Came by on a Monday for dinner, and it was quite busy! Definitely check in on the Yelp waitlist beforehand if you can, we didn't check in until we parked and waited about 25 minutes for a group of 4. The service was attentive, and the inside is quite spacious. I got the Mentaiko cream udon, and it was one of the best I've had in the Bay Area! It wasn't overly heavy but was creamy, I didn't really taste much spice as it notes on the menu. I tried a bit of the niku ramen, and that was tasty as well! It's on the pricier size but the portions are pretty big, a regular size is enough for most for a meal.

I came here twice! First time I got the beef sukiyaki udon, this time I got the nabeyaki udon. Both were very flavorful and noodles had good chew. My partner got the mentai cream sauce udon, which was a creative fushion of pasta-esque sauce with udon. I like the ambiance of wood decoration with plants and bare light bulbs.

Tried their delux tonkatsu. The broth was very well executed. Smooth, rich mouthfeel with a very nice flavor. Could tell it was prepared with care. The meats were also very well executed and there was a very generous portion size. The noodles while fresh and handmade, were a little too thick for me. I prefer a thinner noodle. I wish they offered a choice. Service was excellent.

Flavorful broth! I got the regular size niku udon and it was extremely filling (definitely recommend this size over the large). The udon noodles and meat were cooked perfectly. The tempura bits on top was a great addition. Our server was great and explained the menu to us since it was our first time there. They were very flexible with our dietary restrictions (half our party was vegetarian). Our office is nearby so the location is great and since we were quickly sat we were able to be in and out in a timely manner. Definitely would come back!

this is a pretty good place for udon in downtown mountain view that i've been to a few times. you can add yourself to the yelp waitlist in person, and the wait is never too long. they have both indoor and outdoor seating. i have trouble getting t-mobile cell phone service here, though. i've gotten one of the signature udons (with cream sauce), tonkatsu udon, takoyaki, and niku udon. i personally feel that the signature udon is too creamy. the other udon are pretty heavy as well so i can never finish an entire bowl by myself. overall i prefer marugame udon (which i feel is higher quality AND cheaper), but this is a decent option if you're looking for udon in the mountain view area.

More spacious than the Japantown location. This location in Mountain View also has outdoor seating. We got the salmon spinach cream udon and katsu curry udon - such a great contrast to have for dinner. The salmon spinach cream was light and the katsu curry was rich. Service was great and the dishes came out fairly quick.

Yummmm! What makes this place really stand out, in my opinion, are the noodles. When you walk in, you can see the noodles being made, and when you try it, it's clear that they are fresh! I ordered the Nabeyaki Udon and my husband ordered the Tonkotsu. I wish I had remembered to take pictures so I could share - the food was beautiful! The service was quick - for some, maybe too quick, but I eat pretty quickly and didn't feel rushed. There is also a waitlist you can join ahead of time, so you don't have to wait long when you arrive! We appreciated that our server took the time to explain parts of the menu to us and point out which options we should pick (I chose the Nabeyaki over the Tonkotsu since I was told it would be easier on my sensitive stomach). If you haven't been to Marufuku Ramen, I would also recommend that (run by the same owner as Udon Mugizo). Both have delicious, high-quality food.

The Udon Mugizo empire just keeps growing and growing thanks to this second of three locations. From their original location in the iconic Japan Center Mall in San Francisco's Japantown neighborhood, to their third location in the heart of San Jose. Udon Mugizo is having a moment, and why not as Japanese noodle restaurants are all the rage from ramen to soba, but it is udon that strikes to the heart of what is quintessential Japanese cuisine. The variety of dishes that the team at Udon Mugizo crafts here belies their creativity as I have never enjoyed such heartier dishes before as the fusion between cultures is what really makes them stand out. Where else can you get Udon noodles topped with cream sauce or curry? I have been to their original location many times in the past and always remember having both a delicious and good time. Thankfully with this second location, things have remained the same as fresh, handmade udon noodles are the still name of the game, with their udon noodle making facility prominently at the front of their storefront on Castro Street, which was the former home of hot pot restaurant Shabuway, and like their original home in San Francisco, never seems to be making an noodles whenever one walks by. Nevertheless, when I walked by they were busy to be sure, as it was a warm weeknight afternoon, with Castro Street still blocked off to car traffic, this location of Udon Mugizo has a temporary which certainly look permanent outdoor dining area on the street area in front of the restaurant, which is where I chose to dine this evening. The food menu at Udon Mugizo is separated into categories including their traditional Tonkotsu Udon, Signature Udon, Warm Udon, Cold Udon, Nabeyaki Udon, Curry Udon, Extra Toppings, Rice Bowl Combo with Mini Udon, Kids Meal, Desserts, Appetizers, and Tempera a la Carte. Since I wasn't super hungry and it was still quite warm outside when I arrived at Udon Mugizo, I ordered their Tempura Zaru Udon, which was Zaru Udon served with a three pieces of shrimp tempura and three pieces of vegetable tempura, sides of sesame seeds, ginger, green onions, tempura bits and sliced nori seaweed. For a majority of their entrées at Udon Mugizo they have both regular and large sizes and that's a really nice touch that I admire because sometimes you can't eat that much food upon every visit, and taking this type of food home isn't the most conducive to an enjoyable meal. Upon receiving my entrée, out came a tray filled with the aforementioned ingredients, placed as if they were pieces of unique artwork. Of course with so many individual compartments and tools I had no idea what I was supposed to do with any of them, as a guide would have been handy, but since I saw a mortar and pestle, I ground the sesame seeds, added in the sweet sauce, green onions and ginger that was provided and then took a few udon noodles with my chopsticks and dipped them in the bowl that provided. It was the perfect combination of flavors that were both sweet and savory served lukewarm. Mixing in the crunchiness of the freshly fried tempura, it was a feast for many of the senses. Obviously people come for their two signature udons, but enjoying this new dish to me was refreshing and the perfect compliment to the experience. My total bill was $22.10 before gratuity was added in, which in this day and age was very reasonable. Udon Mugizo is run by the same owner of Marufuku Ramen, which itself has become its own mini-empire in the region, but with a dedicated udon restaurant in the heart of Silicon Valley, the possibilities are endless of where all of this can head to next. And that may be the most exciting aspect of all, as when dining at Udon Mugizo, visitors are taking in something truly special, and with the knowledge that it all began in Japantown, it is something truly exciting.

I ordered the nabeyaki udon for my first time at Udon Mugizo. While it was tasty and had all the standard toppings, I was not really impressed. I was ready to be blown away and throw Marugame under the bus, but I really don't feel like the flavor was that much better, and this was over $20 for one portion compared to ~$15 at Marugame. I also tried the salmon cream udon, which was tasty and not too heavy, but again nothing mind blowingly good or revolutionary. I didn't realize you had to explicitly ask for the uni udon, or else may have tried to get that. I will probably try the cold udon next time as it looks like it might be more unique and worth it. Service was fine and friendly, and the ambiance reminds me of Taishoken - dimly lit, traditional Japanese decorations, pretty comfy!

Solid udon spot! The salmon spinach cream sauce udon wasn't too heavy! The salmon was fresh and the sauce tasted herby and light. I loved the katsu curry udon. The curry was incredibly flavorful and full of depth. Katsu was crispy and not dry at all! Tonkatsu udon had a rich broth and was very filling with all of its toppings.

Food is great. This is a great spot to come with friends if you don't want to spend too much money since the dishes are not over priced. Their soups are delicious and I enjoy their udon. Service is great. They are warm, attentive, and fast. I didn't feel like we waited too long for anything to come. The restaraunt looks great as well. I like the wood furniture paired with warm light and a Japanese twist. It feels homey while also modern and fresh. Parking is not too bad in Mountain View. They are a few public lots nearby so we parked in one of them and walked over

Light and delicious food. Am not very familiar with Japanese cuisine to compare but its flavorful and filling. My dish came with tempura which i loved. The soup portion was big although I ordered the regular size yet it was enough and took some with me home. I totally recommend it. The serves is great and quick. We went with no reservations yet seated immediately.

I was craving udon the day I went, and I had walked by Udon Mugizo in Mountain View a couple times now, so that's where I decided to go! We got the Niku Udon, Katsu Curry Udon, and the Vegetabke Tempura. The tempura was perfectly fried, very nice and crunchy. The niku udon was good as well--I really liked the fried tempura bits inside. And the katsu curry udon was also very good--very deep flavor. The service was very friendly throughout the dining experience as well. I would recommend this restaurant!

The curry udon was delicious! The curry goes well with both the udon and the rice. The katsu was perfectly cooked with an amazingly crisp breading. Our server was attentive and our food came out quickly. Great experience overall!

This udon spot is in downtown Mountain View. We decided to eat here after a gym session and it was a great decision! The food was amazing, the vibes were great, the service was good. Would definitely recommend.

This was my second visit and I was delighted once again. I ordered the Tempura udon, which in my opinion is a great gauge for how well a restaurant does udon. It's also great bang for your buck. The broth is flavorful, the noodles are chewy yet slick, and the portion is perfect if you're just beyond normal hungry. The tempura is fresh, light , and crisp. The dipping sauce is delicate and sweet. You can eat indoor or out and during lunch time it's a buzzy place for a business lunch or a great spot to catch up with a friend.

The food here is super tasty! Had some of the takoyaki, their corn tempura and the mentai cream udon. First time having corn tempura and it was amazing. The mentai cream udon was also very well balanced despite being a really rich dish. Service was really fast - got our food within fifteen minutes it seemed. Fast casual ambiance with wooden benches.

This was so good!! I had the beef udon and the creamy one. They were bitch so good. My only complaint is the poached egg was too raw for me. I would have liked the option for a soft boil. The place is small and there is shared seating. It's worth it though bc the food is so good! It is located right next to a free parking structure. Definitely would want to come here again.

Another spiffy casual kool spot for Japanese eats is gracing the first block of vibrant downtown M.V. And it's a fun one for all you noodle obsessed peeps. I met up with Yelp pal Steve, who was curious what an authentic Japanese udon-ya is like. Udon M. offers up more than a dozen variations of the soup, and some sides of tempura. The gyosa here is something unique, fascinating and totally tasty. Gyosa tempura, to be precise, includes five pieces. The ground pork veggie filling is in a wonton-like wrapper, as you expect.. but then wrapped again with a shiso leaf that seems battered; the entire dumpling is then placed in a fryer and cooked to visual and tasty wonderfulness. This ain't your oka'san's gyosa. Small divided dish of ponsu dipping sauce and a pinch of yuzu paste arrives with the food, complementing perfectly the tempura dumpling. Beautiful bowl of the Tonkotsu udon extra Cha Shu came out within minutes of ordering, spices on the side. Seven slices of the Cha Shu pork, one shrimp tempura, a cluster of spinach, shoyu egg with runny yolk, topped the udon. Each of the components is delicious. Only minor note: udon was extra al dente. I think they should have jacuzzi'd a bit longer in boiling broth in order to achieve the ideal springy bounce in texture. Very good but could have been excellent. The interior is contemporary warm, lights-filled and stylish with up-tempo music playing. A bride and her wedding party were enjoying lunch in a booth. Service is great: extremely attentive, professional staff check on customers constantly, bring requests like extra sauce or utensils or napkins lickety-split, all with friendly smiles and courtesy. Top-notch service in a trendy small eatery. Udon Mugizo is a specialty Japanese chain. It can be reasonable cost, when sharing appetisers and a large noodles order. Also factoring in, prices reflect its outstanding location on the premier block of downtown M.V. The stretch receives lots of foot traffic because the City Transit centre is a mere one block away. A perfect welcoming place to get some filling delicious Japanese noodles and tempura, Udon Mugizo is the place to treat yourself.

i've visited this location ~3x now and it hits every time. such a delicious udon place!!! definitely one of my favorite spots with great ambiance and kind workers. * mentai cream sauce udon: 10/10. super soft and chewy noodles with rich creamy sauce. it can get a bit tiring to eat so i'd recommend sharing a large bowl if you're not a huge fan of saucy/creamy noodles. i shared a large bowl and we were both full! * tempura gyoza (5 pc): 7/10. the tempura itself is crispy and the potstickers inside were fresh and hot! the sauce that comes with it is definitely a must-have, otherwise it's fairly plain. overall, i'd visit again and again for the cream sauce udon. the location is also AMAZING!!!!! free parking and such a cute little town made specifically for family. it was also a super nice sunny day and it was incredibly lively!

On New Year's Eve, my sister and I came here for early dinner. The place was cute and has a cozy type of ambiance. I really liked the lights area- so pretty! We both ordered Tonkatsu Ramen where I got the porkbelly one. The udon was bouncy and fresh. The soup was perfectly flavorful and savory. I wasn't much of a fan of the tempura flakes, but my sister seems to like it. Service was attentive and friendly. We would definitely return again. :)

I have been here 4 times already and I have loved every single thing I've ordered. I'm a huge udon noodle fan to begin with, and they have all the classic udon dishes like the niku and curry udon that they already do so well, but it's the specialty cream sauce udon that are my favorites. I normally like cream-based foods like with pasta, so I really enjoyed the richer, thicker flavors with both the salmon spinach and Mentaiko cream udon dishes. Across all the dishes, the udon noodles are cooked perfectly soft and chewy, the broths / sauces have the right amount of umami flavor, and the mixture of toppings add fragrance and texture on top! There was nice outdoor seating on Castro too so I was able to enjoy the udon with company out in the nice weather! And the service was pretty quick so no complaints there.

A Decent udon place with relatively affordable price, ramen mugizo delivers handmade udon noodles that have nice chewy texture with flavourful broth thats packed with umami. For $18, a regular sized tonkotsu udon comes with 3 small pieces of chashu, an onsen egg and tempura, which is a good portion of food; you definitely will not be leaving hungry. I dont feel like upgrading to large, or getting extra food (such as the combo) is necessary unless you are really hungry or plan to share. The server was also very good; the lady who served us frequently came by to ask us how everything tastes Beware: their payment system has tips placed in the order of (25% 20% 18%) from left to right, so watch out when you use the machine and make sure you are choosing the option you intended.

3.5 Maybe I am not a fan of Udon so definitely take this with a grain of salt, but I also found their tempura way too oily. Food: We started with the corn tempura which was nice and felt like it would fit in at an American county fair. It had a sweet and savory flavoring to it. Then I got the tempura udon and my partner got the katsu curry udon. The broth for the tempura udon was not my favorite it felt very fishy while lacking umami despite them saying it had soy too. It wasn't spicy which I would have liked more so I added a lot of spice. Again as I said above the tempura was very oily. I felt pretty sick after because of that. The udon noodles were firm and tasty, but I just couldn't get past the broth and oily tempura. The curry udon was better but too rich for me. Also the portions are huge! Regular is more than enough and I took half of my regular home. Definitely good bang for your buck but it wasn't the quality and taste for me. Ambiance: good. I liked the Japanese feel, but it was busy and a little loud. Service: good. They gave us a menu with photos and explained the differences between all the different options. Came around a couple of times for water but we needed to ask for extra tea.

I am not a big udon person, but I like pasta & the Salmon Spinach Cream Sauce Udon tastes like pasta. It is so creamy, yummy, and filling. I think I finished the noodles before the salmon so I believe the salmon proportions are generous.

Visited on a Monday evening - there was no wait and we were seated immediately. Staff were friendly and service was quick. We ordered the yaki onigiri and the takoyako for appetizers. The onigiri was fine, we really liked the mentaiko+parmesan combination on one of them. Takoyaki was great and really reminded us of the ones we had in Japan! For our main dishes, my boyfriend ordered the salmon spinach cream udon (his fav) and I ordered the nabeyaki udon. The nabeyaki was good but predictable -- it wasn't anything mind blowing. The cream udon was next level and my boyfriend was so satisfied with it! He always orders this when we visit. Overall, we were very happy with our meals and would definitely come back again!

That mentai cream udon is FIRE!! Holy moly so freaking creamy, and I loved the bit of spiciness they added in there. The server asked each of us who ordered it, "you're aware it's spicy, right?" but honestly it's not that spicy. The udon has such a nice chew. The sauce is just perfectly umami. I licked up every last drop of that. Brings me back to convenience stores in Japan. I had some of my wife's Niku Udon, and that was really good too. I loved the meat and the noodles. I think I still liked the mentai better, though. But that's just because I love mentaiko. Service was a little slow to refill our water, but the food was excellent. Easy 5*.

Food: delicious. Noodles are tender and soft and flavors are spot on. Mentai is delicious, so unique! A tad spice kick but takes you to an Italian Japanese world I didn't know I needed. For hot days, the Zaru udon is just what you need. The dipping sauce is delicate and noodles are chilled. Service: you have to be proactive with staff, let them know you need a table and when to order. Servers do ask if you've been there before which is nice as a first timer. Vibe: both indoor and outdoor seating is nice. Inside has limited seating. Outdoor you get hit with tree pollen but the street is shut down to cars so it's just foot traffic. Great for people watching. Parking garage is right behind the restaurant, you go down and ally and hit the entrance of the joint. If you have an EV, parking is on higher floors. Price: good price for the quality. A bit more expensive than Tar0 San at Stanf0rd for similar hand cut noodles.

(Overall: B) - Overall, I was very fond of the food at Udon Mugizo as it was high quality and brought the bestnof some classic Japanese flavors. The seating was less than desirable as it was a high bar counter despite making a reservation for two, and the service was a bit lagging as it was very difficult to get refills on tea. Otherwise, the place itself looks quite nice and was a pleasant experience overall. (Combination Tempura: B) - This tempura platter is expertly made, and you can tell by the flaky coating that adds extra crispiness on the exterior. The pieces of shrimp and vegetable are large but still flavorful. I think this dish does have opportunity to improve in the presentational aspect or by taking a unique flavoral spin. (Beef Sukiyaki: A) - The udon is very tender and chewy, clearly indicating the freshness of the noodles, which pairs incredibly well with the heartwarming sweet soy-based sukiyaki broth. This was a large portion that was quite the challenge to finish, with plenty of meat, vegetable, and noodles all around. Great service, clean, open setting, good food. Came with a friend at 9:20PM before closing. There was no wait at this time on Saturday night. My friend ordered a Mentai Cream Sauce Udon, I ordered a Niku Udon, and we shared a Sweet Potato Tempura. Food came out in 15 minutes if not less, all together. They brought out two small dishes for the tempura without asking. Tempura was nice and crispy, fresh, no old oil taste. Udon was good, the niku udon came with some egg, the runny yolk was great with the udon and def my foodgasm moment, niku slices thicker than my personal preference (I usually food not so heavy/rich). My friend didn't realize but Mentai is mildly spicy. I tried it, though the taste is great, she couldn't handle the spice and had to ask for them to swap it out. It doesn't say on the menu it is spicy, but mental if you look it up is spicy. They spoke to her very respectfully and went to ask a manager if it was okay, and the manager okayed it. We very much appreciated that, and I think any restaurant that has a manager that cares about the customer enough to make that call is a business I want to support. I'll be honest, I don't have much experience with Udon, I've had much more ramen, but this place is fantastic. We've been back multiple times and still love it. If you are looking for a few classic menu items that you can't go wrong with, we love the Tonkotsu Udonn(the broth is fantastic) and the Nabeyaki Udon. Pro tip, the waiter pointed out to us that the Nabeyaki and the Niki Udon are basically the same, the Nabeyaki is just more expensive because it's got a couple more toppings. Take that for what it's worth. Decent prices for the sizes of food. Unless you are one to eat A LOT, the normal size will most likely be enough. They've got a great little atmosphere. Indoor booths are cutely lit, service quick and staff is friendly, and I really like watching them make their homemade noodles in the window out front. Really fun to eat here on a night where it's lit and live music is going.

"Udon Mugizo" serves up awesome Udon noodle dishes in downtown Mountain View, CA. My Yelp friend, Jade T, suggested we try this place for lunch. I have had Udon noodles before, but never in a restaurant that specializes in the dish. We arrived at 2pm on a Sunday, and I wasn't sure if there was a waitlist. I signed up for the waitlist, and then we were told we would be seated right away. The place has an interesting decor, it seemed safe and cozy. We ordered a large bowl of Tonkotsu Chashu Udon (to share) and a side order of Gyoza Tempura (5-pc). Also, a hot tea and spices on the side. That large bowl cost $22.50, but it's alot of food! Beautiful presentation with slices of chashu, creamy egg, tempura shrimp, spinach, scallions, and tempura bits. All nesting on top of a creamy (slightly salty) broth and thick udon noodles. It's alot of food, and enough for two people. The Gyoza Tempura were interesting. They reminded of Chinese Taro Dumplings (dim sum) in their fragile crust and soft filling. I didn't taste any pork. Service was very attentive. The dining room was about 3/4 full, and tables filled up around us. I really had no complaints. Very good experience. Free parking in garage behind the restaurant.

There's a couple locations of this restaurant in San Francisco and Saratoga, but we went to the one in Mountain View. The one in SF is inside Japantown, but this location has outdoor dining options. The atmosphere is nice in this plaza and you can walk around because there is sometimes live music at night!       For appetizer, we got the assorted tempura because they ran out of takoyaki. I loved the batter for the tempura because it was so light and crispy, and the dipping sauce for the tempura was also really good. I've been wanting to try the sea urchin udon, but there has been a shortage of uni for a while now so I'm wondering if I'll ever get to try it! I got the mentai cream udon instead because I love creamy noodles. My friend got the curry katsu udon and his was also really good! I like that they hand-make their udon noodles in-house! The service was good and they answered all our questions.       I would definitely recommend eating here if you are in the area because there aren't too many good udon places in the Bay Area!

I ordered the kitsune udon and at this location, it was so much better than Japantowns. The udon has a delicious with a uniform soft chew (made fresh in front) and the broth was packed with flavor! The kitsune is thicker than usual places and what I like but it pleasantly soaks up with sauce making each bite have flavor. We also ordered assorted tempura but the batter was too thick and didn't taste the best (we arrived an hour before closing so I assume it was pre-batched and not made by order that late). I used the convenient Yelp waitlist so once I parked and walked to the location, my table was ready! Service here is very nice and fast.

2nd time at this location and the quality still is great. Small joint but they have tables for those eating alone as well. Located in downtown Mountain View. Must stop to try especially on a cold day! I like how they have traditional udon and also dry udon. It's almost like a pasta but with udon noodles. The salmon one is great!

I came to Sunnyvale for a work trip and was looking for a worthwhile dinner. I saw some high praise about this spot so I decided to give it a visit on a Tuesday night for dinner. There was a short waitlist on Yelp, but perhaps because I was a party of one, I was able to be seated almost immediately after joining the waitlist. I ordered a regular tonkatsu udon, which combines the luxuriousness of a tonkatsu ramen with the toppings of an udon. In my case, the toppings included 3 pieces of chashu pork, 1 shrimp tempura, and 1 piece of kakuni (braised pork belly), along with spinach and tempura flakes. The toppings were top tier in terms of flavor. On top of that, I appreciated how the shrimp tempura remained crunchy for a few minutes even after being in the tonkatsu broth. I also appreciated how tender the kakuni was. The chashu was slightly overcooked, but that wasn't too big of a deal for me given how thin the pieces were. The noodles were cooked perfectly, giving them a soft chew and great mouthfeel. And though the tonkatsu broth was rich, it did feel slightly lighter than the tonkatsu broths I've had from other ramen spots, which made it feel more appropriate for an udon dish. The broth coated the noodles enough so you could taste the umami from the broth without it feeling thick or heavy. One thing I liked was that they could give you the spice powder on the side rather than mixing it directly into the broth, so you can better control your spice. The spice mix isn't togarishi, but rather it's cayenne. They also gave a fish powder on the side in case you want to boost the umami of your broth. The pricing seems a little high, and if you get a large bowl, it could get a bit pricey. But there's no doubt that you get a lot of food here, despite how deceivingly small a regular-sized bowl looks. The interior is extremely casual, and there are several tables within that look to be great for parties of 4. They also have a bigger shared table, which they seem to treat as their bar, where smaller parties are seated with other smaller parties (this is where I sat). The food comes quick here - I didn't have to wait longer than 5 minutes after ordering to get my meal. I was in and out within 40 minutes, so you can definitely make some quick meals here if you wanted. Service was extremely kind and attentive. I'm not from the area, but I can see why this place gets such praise. I'm most definitely a fan!
