Tried udupi buffet on Sunday. Honestly not many tables were filled. It’s all vegetarian food with limited choices compared to other restaurants. But food was pretty decent for whatever the choices they offered. Their punugulu, pongal, puri, naan, paneer curries and vermicelli desserts were good. Rest are just ok. Dosas are included that are made fresh but unfortunately they didn’t taste good although looked perfect. Could be just a wrong batch. Service is fine no issues. But ambiance need to be improved. Lacks liveliness. Priced at $13.99 for a buffet, it’s not bad at all but could improve a bit more.

Edit after the owner’s response: This restaurant owner has some serious issues and clearly doesn’t know how to receive feedback. Trying to defend their scam with half baked cooking knowledge shows why their service is of such downgraded quality. I gave a very sincere review and they publicly mock me for doing so? Wow! That’s some great professionalism right there! I’ve had biryanis from different cuisines and i am very much aware of different cooking styles myself. Please don’t try to comeup with your own definition of biryani and hide it behind Udupi cuisine. Its a shame to the cuisine itself! You literally used the deep fried paneer which was prepared for your appetizers as a topping on a pre cooked pulav. If you still try to defend this as a biryani which was made in a dum style, its an utter shame. FYI, i payed $45 for my order and it would’ve costed me the same if i dine in for the same order. So more than the price, its the quality here which is a big concern. Instead of calling it a “cheap trick”, try to understand how frustrated the customer might be when they take the time to write such a detailed review. What do you think am i going to benefit from writing this review here? Please learn some professionalism and also better business skills instead of scamming & mocking customers. I’m reporting this to Uber right away along with your response! Original review: Ordered from this restaurant via Uber Eats and was extremely disappointed. I got the Paneer Biryani and Mushroom Chettinad, both part of a 1+1 offer. The so called Paneer Biryani is not biryani at all. It was a handful of deep-fried paneer chunks, coated in an overly colored, bland maida batter (despite selecting the highest spice level), topped on a basic mixed veg pulao. If this had been marketed as Veg Pulao with Fried Paneer, I could’ve adjusted my expectations. But to call this “biryani” is misleading at best and insulting at worst!! Not to forget about the portion size which was laughable & barely enough for one person. Slashing portions to kids meal sizes on the name of a 1+1 offer is not a deal, it’s deception. I’ve used this offer at multiple restaurants, and none have pulled this trick. There’s a line between smart pricing and outright scamming, and this place has crossed it!! As for the Mushroom Chettinad, the gravy was decent, but the mushrooms looked very stale. Also, only one tiny portion of rice was included for two gravies. Just a few spoonfuls which was nowhere near enough. Again, this defeats the purpose of the 1+1 offer. I saw another person post a similar experience in his review and the owner responded saying the customers shouldn’t be expecting more in a buy1get1 offer. Like seriously? I genuinely request the restaurant owners to please stop scamming customers under the guise of promotions. I did read other negative reviews online before ordering but i chose to ignore them because I trusted the name “Udupi” to uphold a certain standard. Clearly, I was wrong. There’s a first for everything and this was my first ever WORST Udupi experience (& hopefully the last)!! Never order food from here, online. I hope their dine in experience is much better and nowhere closer to this flop show that i experienced!

We went for lunch to try their thali meals. The food took a little time to arrive, but it was worth the wait as the sambar, poriyal, papad, and even the pickle tasted good. The dosa was crispy and well made. On the other hand, the cauliflower fry lacked salt and masala, and when we shared feedback, the staff didn’t respond. The lassi and rose milk were okay, but not very impressive. Overall, it was a good meal experience, though there’s room for improvement in a few dishes and service.

It was my first time visiting Udupi Cafe Tempe. Luckily I made it in time before it closed at 3 PM. The ambience was great and the food was very delicious! I had bisi bele bath and mango lassi, and both of them were really good! The staff were also friendly and accommodating of the timing. The next time I am in Phoenix, I will definitely visit again. This place is also located close to the airport - it was just a 12-15 min drive!

There was a promotion going on - BOGO in Uber Eats. So I decided to give it a try and ordered Paneer Biryani. You can see the portion size of paneer biryani. It’s clearly one portion divided into 2 portion. And it was not biryani, it was fried tofu (Not Paneer according to me at-least, and if its paneer, then this is the worst paneer I tested ever) over rice. This so called paneer was very tight and not giving a taste of paneer at all. You can fool your customers only once. This is my first and last order with you. Don’t run such promotions when you can’t fulfill it.

Google
My overall experience was terrible. The naan was sweet. The item I ordered wasn’t available. I didn’t receive my samosas. So they gave me an item I didn’t order to replace my samosas and the unavailable item? I only gave two stars on Grubhub because of the rice and that was before I realized the naan was sweet or it would’ve been a 1 star on there as well.

Google
FOOD IS NOT FRESHLY MADE( you can read multiple reviews) Ordered gobi 65 biriyani, they gave me in 16 oz. Box, (not even sufficient for a kid). The rice was given right out of fridge, it was super cold just added gobi fry on top and served it. When I asked about, their reply was- “Biriyani cannot be made fresh”, like seriously ? Never coming here again🙏🏻

Google
Order a paneer biryani with 1 plus 1 offer. Got quantity which doesn’t match half of normal quantity that one gets from any restaurant. Scamming people in daylight. Would suggest folks to beware as they are becoming popular in town for scamming people with fake offer!

Yelp
If you're into vegetarian cuisine heat and flavor this is the place to go. It is very modest inside. Nothing fancy. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Food was fresh and tasty

Yelp
I'm really bummed out writing this because I genuinely love the food at Udupi Café. I've always enjoyed their dishes, and that's the only reason this isn't a one-star review. But I wish I actually got the food I ordered. This is now the third time I've tried to get their carrot halwa. The first time was through delivery, the second time I even tried in-store, and now this third attempt was another delivery order. Each time, no luck. Fine, things run out, but it's a pattern, you don't have it. I ordered directly from their website, so I hoped the menu would be up to date. The third-party driver called to offer substitutions, which I appreciate, but it's still disappointing. And to top it off, they forgot the vegetables in my masala padpam. That was the part of the meal I was most excited about! So here I am, having spent around $80 total, with two items unavailable and a key part of another dish missing. The only reason this isn't a lower rating is because I do still really like the food. I just wish I actually got to enjoy what I ordered and yes, this could be resolved by going in so they could tell me before I order that they're out of items.

Yelp
This place has been on my list of restaurants to try for several years. I love dosas and there aren't many places around to find them. Udupi has plenty of dosa options on its menu. We came on a night that was not busy at all. In fact, we were the only people in the restaurant! We ordered several dishes to try (including 3 dosas): samosa chaat, chana masala, and palak paneer. The dosas were the mysore masala dosa, the onion rava masala dosa, and the special cauliflower dosa. The dosa menu is extensive and there is no description about the contents, so our waitress walked us through and gave recommendations. All of the food was good, though it was the dosas that stood out as our favorite. In particular, I ended up liking the rava masala dosa the best, I think because it had fennel seeds in the dosa, which gave it an interesting flavor and texture. To drink, we ordered a mango lassi and a masala chai tea. The lassi was great, but the chai was disappointing. It tasted like black tea with milk and I couldn't taste any spices in it. The ambiance is pretty Spartan. There isn't a lot of decoration. But that's okay, I didn't mind that part.

Yelp
We were in the mood for some Indian Food and this place didn't disappoint. I ordered the Kurma and a garlic naan. The main dish was spiced to perfection, nice kick, mature flavor, good consistency. The garlic naan was phenomenal, ended up ordering another batch because I could not put it down. We did dine-in and the service was good. There were a number of very hostile delivery app drivers during our visit which was not cool, I don't blame the restaurant at all! This isn't fast food, quality takes time. Very much a hole in the wall and that's the vibe. We will be back!

Yelp
This place is definitely a hole in the wall. You've got an extremely dirty exterior, the interior also has broken chairs, unused large appliances, and a bunch of cleaning supplies on one of the tables. Also note that that their prices on their official website are incorrect. Their actual prices are way more expensive when you actually go to the store. Note that they have a buffet but we have no idea when it happens as it's not mentioned on their website nor their in-store menu. Their menu is some hastily written basic Excel table of items that have no pictures. Most of their bigger stuff costs $15 so I got a coconut rice dish while my crony ordered some curry and a naan. Our whole order came out to $47 (includes tax and tip). The food itself is plentiful and of slightly above average quality.

Yelp
********************** WARNING! *************************** In July, I placed an order for delivery on Udupi Cafe's website. Udupi confirmed my order via email & text message. They also charged my credit card account for the full amount of my order. Twenty minutes later, I received a text message from a delivery driver informing me that when she arrived to pick up my order, she was told that Udupi had canceled it. I immediately placed 2 calls to Udupi, but none were answered. Later that night, I called again & left 2 messages, but they never returned my calls.  For over a week, I called & spoke to 3 different employees. I provided each of them with a detailed account of the problem and the corresponding order number. I requested a full refund for the amount charged to my account. They said they would forward my information to the owner.  After 9 days of waiting for a refund, with no success, I filed a report with my bank. Thankfully, they reimbursed the full amount owed me. The frustration, lost time, and energy spent resolving this issue have been far more than it ought to be. My biggest mistake was not reading YELP reviews before patronizing this establishment. Lesson learned!

Yelp
Serious health concern. Their items in the buffet are spoiled. The potato was smelling bad, the chutney was bad, dosa was sour as if batter was like 2 weeks old. Look at the coffee color, 97% milk with 2 drops of coffee semi warm. This is the 3rd time I complained them about the spoiled food. This place should be banned by food regulators. (...and this would be my last visit here) P.S: "urban district" offers amazing buffet fresh made 25+ items for just 16$ I did not want to , but you ll be served. Watch out .
google avatar

Yelp
Poor food quality and portions, pricing is inconsistent and restaurant is filthy. Scammy online practices and false advertising are frequent issues. Most good reviews are years old and they seem to only get worse the newer they are. Never coming back, no matter how many different names they try to advertise themselves with.
google avatar

Skye L.

Yelp
Not a single vegan option. There are signs saying that now there are 2 businesses running out of the location - but they must have devoted the entire buffet to the meat options. The place was blazing hot, no AC. Also, the samosas and naan ran out 2 minutes after we got there. After 20 minutes still no Samosas and the naan they added was gone in 5 minutes again. If you're vegan or vegetarian- don't go!!

Yelp
The worst experience ever at a restaurant. We are out-of-state and visiting Scottsdale, AZ. We were glad to find an Indian restaurant to get some idli for our little one. A plate of Idli, which typically costs around $6-$8 even in high cost centers like San Francisco Bay Area, costed us $12 per plate and the accompanying chutneys and sambar were below mediocre. When asked about the high prices, they showed us a pricing chart which had different pricing from what we were charged, they apologized saying the cashier was new and didnot know. When checked online the price for a plate of Idli was $6.99, when we asked, they said as they are not adding taxes, the in-store prices per item is higher than what is quoted online. We felt swindled, improper business practices, and also quite unhygienic for in-store dining. I would not visit this restaurant again.

Yelp
I ordered from Uber eats and had an incredible experience. The food came fast and hot. Packaged well. Everything had a good spice to it but not too spicy. I am visiting Phoenix and we were just tired and didn't want to leave the house. With so many poor experiences with food delivery I was hesitant. Udupi surpassed any expectations I could have had for delivery.

Yelp
We came for the buffet on Saturday and the food was quite good. Some things I think could be improved: - label the food. We weren't sure what the buffet items were and I hate to waste by taking something I won't like. Four items were labeled but no others were. - food delivery - we learned that a dosa comes with the buffet but it arrived at our table after we had finished eating. - ambiance - there is none at all - it's a large room with tables. Would I come back? Probably yes because I really do enjoy this food.

Yelp
Came here on a hot summer evening for dinner. My sister had never tried Indian cuisine before. I ordered my usual- samosas for appetizer, served with yummy tamarind sauce and mint chutney. For my entree, I had paneer tikka masala. Wow, the texture of that paneer was incredible compared to the chicken I would normally spring for- but this place is vegan/ vegetarian. I loved the sauce on the curry- just absolutely delicious and exactly how tikka masala should taste! We shared garlic naan, and of course had to dip in our curries. The naan was soft and perfectly garlicky. The rice served along with the tikka masala was exactly what I expected- yummy! The mango lassi was perfect to drink with the meal because it neutralizes the spicy palette- I am a bit of a baby when it comes to spicy. Definitely enjoyed it though! Overall a delicious dinner and would come again. My only critique would be the ambiance of the restaurant- the table was a bit wobbly and the menu was printed on a piece of paper. Not super important but just something to consider.

Yelp
Sublime. Don't be put off by the photo copy paper menu and bare bones dining room, the food is exquisite. I dined here twice since they reopened and enjoyed both their buffet and a dosa dinner date. Our dosas were perfectly made, the sauces full of flavor and not over salted. We used to love the Gobi Manchurian at the old Udupi, so when we saw it on the menu, we couldn't order it fast enough. Guess what, it's even BETTER than it used to be. The food has the appropriate amount of heat and flavors are well balanced and dazzling. Servers and kitchen staff are extremely warm and friendly. You can tell they have a passion for cooking. Can't wait to go back!
google avatar

Yelp
What happened???? This place used to be so good. They closed for a little while and we were bummed cause we thought they went out of business. So when we saw they were open we jumped on it. Ordered the usual samosas, gobi Manchurian and aloo gobi. The samosas were greasy, like dripping down my arm greasy. Portions are waaaaayyyy smaller now, and the aloo gobi was nasty. New management or something? What happened? That was a complete waste of $50. Won't go back now.

Yelp
I live very close to Udupi and this place has been on my list to try for a while. We hoped to go for the lunch buffet so we went during the lunch hours. Unfortunately they didn't have the buffet when we went. Overall, there are some really great flavors going on and if you're vegetarian or vegan this is a definite must try. Pros: - large enough portions to share - fantastic flavors - food was prepared quickly and freshly - we read online that the Chili Gobi dish is a good choice so we ordered that. Indeed it was! The cauliflower in that dish came out with a nice crunchy texture and was spicy yet slight sweetness of the sauce. - samosas were solid - garlic paratha is like naan but not as fluffy/thick. More like a cross between naan & tortilla. It was filled with a lot of garlic and that's a major plus for me. - coconut rice is just as it sounds, very coconut-y. Cons: - lunch buffet is only Friday, Saturday, & Sunday so plan accordingly. - we spent a good amount of time looking over the menu since there are a lot of choices. When we placed our order the waitress told us 2 out of 3 things we wanted to get were not available. This was not a problem but it would be good to tell us when we arrived if they can't make certain dishes.

Yelp
I was in Scottsdale hanging out with friends and craving Indian & 1 of them recommended Udupi Restaurant which was 10 minutes away. I placed an order online & drove over to pick it up. Vegetable samosas - which I didn't get & I'm super pissed. Instead I got something that looks like chickpeas with tomatoes and onions. It was bland & I'm super pissed about my damn samosas Chilli gobi Cauliflower with sautéed with garlic, ginger chili and soy sauce. This is probably my favorite appetizer to get from Indian restaurants & it was definitely underwhelming. I've definitely had better. Vegetable vindaloo Chickpeas and mixed vegetables in a silky curry sauce. It was ok I've definitely had better. I'm definitely never taking food advice from this friend again. $35 plus tip wasted. smh With my order screwed up & subpar food I definitely won't be back.

Shishir A.

Yelp
Not sure why we were served the worst Dosa ever. We've heard good reviews from friends so we decided to visit. Disappointed with the whole experience.

Nirmal S.

Yelp
The place reopened and was expecting it to be clean. The restaurant opened at 11 and it took them almost 30 mins for them to fill out half the trays. "Naan" which was part of the buffet wasn't available till noon (one hour after the start time). Got zero apology from the staff and one of the worst experience I ever had. Food is average and experienced little stomach bug later that day. Don't recommend this to anyone and not going back The owner apparently doesn't like negative reviews and been removing me out of a few WhatsApp groups lol. Hopefully he learns to take in negative reviews and improve rather than bossing around bad feedback

Andy C.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place. Certainly, the service was wonderful. But how can a dosa be served soggy, with a bland filling? This is the most popular item in South Indian cuisine, so it's the most important dish for them to get right. 3-stars is generous.
google avatar

Jon H.

Yelp
The Udupi Weeknd lunch buffet is a vegan Indian food dream come true. They have a wonderful spread of about 20ish items and all but three or four of them are vegan. Chickpea, lentil soup, breads, rice, Gobi Manchurian (spicy fried cauliflower), baby corn, breads and sweets. I have been in there or four times for the weekend buffet in the past year and I will certainly will be back again!
google avatar

Rory S.

Yelp
Decent dosa & South Indian fix - there are very few places in the valley that can satisfy that. Buffet is pretty solid, some dishes are better than others. They do a few things well: Rasam, sambar, Manchurian, tomato chutney, dosa. But generally, it's a lot like your typical too greasy, too creamy Indian restaurants that you find.

Gabe F.

Yelp
I discovered this place on accident a couple months ago. It instantly became my favorite Indian restaurant. The "Chili Mushroom" is off the hook ("Chili Gobi" with cauliflower is equally delicious!). I usually find a single dish that I like at a restaurant and just stick with that, but here I am slowly working my way through every vegan option they have on the menu. I haven't had anything yet that is not insanely flavorful and delicious. At one point, they even special-made a vegan korma for my wife, and it tasted wonderful! The service is friendly and the food is really really tasty.
google avatar

Ben H.

Yelp
I was invited by my Indian friend to join her for brunch at Udupi. I was looking forward to it all week. Thirty minutes before brunch time, a bomb was dropped- Udupi is a vegetarian restaurant! I considered cancelling, and going to Fogo de Chao instead, but I am a team player and decided to give a try. On Sundays there is a buffet. To my surprise, I genuinely enjoyed many of the dishes. I did not have a favorite food but I had a favorite desert (the one with the carrots, loaded with sugar). Everything I tried had lots of flavour, but I will admit I was disappointed that Udupi is vegan, as I was dreaming of goat stew all night.

Adam S.

Yelp
Food was off the chain ! Got the aloo ghobi and the chana masala and Not gonna lie the aloo ghobi is the best ive had in many different cities , los angeles , oakland , new york , Many places , very authentic ..homeade and you can tell whoever cooked this had a real Gift i dont usually even write yelp reviews but felt inclined too because the food was that good
google avatar

Kat W.

Yelp
It's all about the gobi Manchurian! Tasty dosas and really good buffet. Can get a little crowded but we didn't have to wait too long. Could use a little more on the decor side but who cares when the vegetarian options are nice and plentiful.

Yelp
I'm so glad Udupi is open again. The food was absolutely amazing on Saturday evening but they were really struggling with service. We will be back soon and I hope the service will be like the old days.

Yelp
I love Indian food. This place didn't disappoint. The paneer butter masala has a slight kick which I love. They didn't ask how spicy I would like my dish. It just came like that. The uttapam was good - we chowed that down quickly. The garlic paratha was also good.
google avatar

Curt T.

Yelp
Wow, love this place, the flavors and cook of everything was spot on Got the garlic paratha and crispy goodness and flavor combination was excellent. Could really taste the garlic which I love. Got the butter paneer masala and so buttery and delicious. The paneer was cooked perfectly as well. One of the best paneer dishes I've had. Also got the chili and onion uttapam and it was just as good. I would have preferred it more crispy and "burnt" but boyfriend thought it was perfect. I do like my stuff extra crunchy and charred but that's just me. Highly recommend this place if you want Indian food Service was just as great as the food.

A K.

Yelp
Lousy tasteless food. Shady neighborhood. Waiters unhappy since tips taken away. Got sick after eating here last two times. Better to avoid this place and go to another restaurant
google avatar

Yelp
This place was so good and the service was above and beyond amazing. The owner is such a nice guy. He helped us order and showed us the correct way to eat our delicious food. The conversation was also something we will never forget. We will return again and again.

Yelp
I was craving Indian cuisine while I was in Tempe, Arizona over the holidays 2021. Thankful that I was in walking distance from my hotel to this Indian restaurant, so I didn't have to call an Uber. My biggest surprise was the fact that this restaurant did not serve Naan, a famous bread that is usually served in many Indian restaurants, at least in the ones I've been to. I was shocked but decided not to panic when deciding on what to order. I arrived here on a nice Thursday evening around 6:30pm, the evening before New Years Eve. The restaurant was buzzing with activity while there were people waiting for orders, most of them were thru food delivery companies. I didn't call ahead of time, since I had time as I was on vacation, but my total time spent here from start to finish was approximately 45 minutes. Maybe 1 hour, since they had to clear the orders ahead of mine before working on mine. I should have called it in, but it is what it is. Arizona COVID-19 laws are quite lax, but I walked in with a face mask anyway. Easier to navigate thru life with one than without one. With that said, I ended up getting a few things, including a curry, which ended up fairy nice and interesting. I didn't ask for utensils, as usual, so I had to use the lid as a makeshift spoon to use. I did enjoy their samosas and ordered the samosa chaat, which is like a samosa salad, in some levels. I had to second guess that one. The overall experience here at the Udupi Indian restaurant here in Tempe, Arizona was interesting, mixed, and casual. Maybe I should have dined in but had preferred to have it back in my comforting hotel room nearby. I did enjoy the activity where the wait staff was busy doing their thing. They seemed a bit busy, even though the activity in the restaurant wasn't really too terrible at the time I was there. For the most part though, it was nice to chill here even though it was a take out thing. The restaurant itself is situated in a small strip mall not far from my hotel and the Hampton Inn and Suites. I bet they get pretty good business from the clientele from there, along with the food delivery apps out there. The service here was rushed and not really good, although it was friendly. They clearly was busy trying to get everything in order and try to get dinner service good for the night. I guess that's how it is with all restaurants these days - doing it all with what you got. I probably could have found better place, if I took an uber and drove out of this side of Tempe, but it was in walking distance, so I decided to do just that. The bright side of staying at the Post 1429 and the Hampton Inn and Suites on N Scottsdale Road, Tempe, is that you get to walk to this Indian restaurant at your disposal. Who doesn't like Indian food? Udupi Indian restaurant is located at 12345 N Scottsdale Road here in Tempe, Arizona. It's an interesting place for a Indian restaurant, but close enough to walk here from my hotel, as mentioned before. They accept major credit cards, as well as cash. In the age of COVID-19, best bet would be to pay with credit cards, but cash is always welcome. As far as parking options go, they are in a small commercial shopping center, so they have a good sized parking to choose from. I walked it here from my hotel, but I'm pretty sure there's public transportation options too to get you here. The restaurant itself was clean and quite nice. If you love Indian cuisine and are in the Tempe area, consider coming here for dinner. Might be better to get take out in the busier times of the year, since it can get crazy. Better yet, call ahead, so you don't have to wait in the restaurant like me in a face mask. 4.0 stars for the overall experience. 4.5 stars for the food, but 3.0 stars for the service and the prices. Support local! B

Horrible tasting chutneys and sambhar had no taste at all. The place smells like harsh chemically cleaner

Yelp
My vegan friend and I decided to try this place for our weekly vegan lunch rotation. I ordered the avial (vegetables in coconut sauce); it was flavorful but spicier than I had expected. Good thing I ordered rose lassi to go with it, as the creamy yogurt drink helped temper the spicy sensation between bites; also, the rose fragrance of the drink was quite pleasing. A few weeks after, I decided to try the lunch buffet. The selections were somewhat limited but satisfying; as far as flavors were concerned, I thought it was just OK. With the buffet you are given a dosa. Note that in addition to the traditional rice and lentil flours used to make this thin crepe-like dish, they also use wheat flour which makes it less crispy but more elastic; so if you're sensitive to wheat or gluten, make sure to tell them beforehand to make your dosa gluten-free. Help yourself to crisp papadum from the vegan papadum station, and don't forget the requisite sauces (tamarind, chutney, etc.) from the salad/sauces station beside it. The creamy kheer (Indian rice pudding) I had for dessert was excellent. The restaurant itself is spacious, clean, and relatively quiet. Prices are reasonable and the service is satisfactory.

Yelp
Spicy but not too spicy!! Dosa, like a crepe, is so delicious and not too oily. I usually like it plain, without mash potatoes. There are many variety of vegetable curries to choose from. My favorites are paneer (cheese) curry, Chana masala (chickpea curry), and okra curry. I miss gobi (cauliflower) Manchurian (sweet and sour sauce?). The day I went in they had a ball of veggies Manchurian instead. Rasmali (cheese+milk=dessert) is also my favorite. Their carrot halwa is also another delicious dessert. I finished my meal with hot chai. I like to add a little sugar in it.

Yelp
Review based on the second visit! Went there for brunch with my husband. We got seated on the corner side, next to a table full of unwanted mess (discarded spoons, plates, rags, etc). So we switched tables. Mind you we grabbed the menu and silverware ourselves because no server or the floor guy attended us. After we grabbed silverware on our own, then only they brought us separate silverware and plates. Ordered aegetable uttapam, chole bhatureh, and two chai. The server said we could grab the chai from Buffet spread and we obliged. The chai was not so great. Next, the uttapam and chole bhatureh was amazing in terms of taste and freshness. The portion was huge. Uttapam came with sides of coconut chutney, sambar, and tomato chutney. Everything tasted very good on this platter. Next, chole bhatura was really good, freshly made, however the side salad like onions and lemon with pickles were missing. I am mentioning it because chole can't be done w/d these sides. I asked for the lemon specifically. The food here is tasty however, the customer service is pathetic

Yelp
Vegan reviewer here! This was my first time eating here in years and I glad I did. All my Indian friends swear by this spot being the most authentic so I had to check it out. I stopped in on a Friday night with my boyfriend. The restaurant is pretty spacious and we got seated right away. The have vegan, vegetarian and carnivore options here with the vegan options labeled with a green V next to each item making it easy to distinguish. We decided to get the vegetable vindaloo curry and gobi manchurian which is deep fried cauliflower in sauce. The curry came out first and it was delicious! The spices really shines through and the portion is large enough to split. The gobi manchurian came out pretty late, I actually thought our server forgot to put in our order but surely it just took a long because it was make fresh. This dish was SO good. The cauliflower was crunchy and sauce was tangy and flavorful. It almost reminded me of an Indian take on mock orange chicken. Both dishes came with rice and are good for sharing. Just make sure to walk up to the front and when you want to pay. The only downsides worth mentioning is that most of their food is fried so it's not the healthiest and their dishes may be spicy for people who are plain eaters. Both of those aren't things don't bother me so I'll definitely be back. They also have a free deal on Groupon for 30% cash back so be sure to claim that before stopping in.

Yelp
I love you, Udupi! This place is awesome! South Indian cuisine is one of my favorites but many of Indian restaurants around where I live only offer just well known "Indian food" like Tandoori chicken and something americanized Indian food. But this place is real! I went for lunch, didn't plan to eat lunch since I wanted to have dosa there, but as soon as I heard unlimited dosa comes with buffet, so I went for buffet, and omg, they are so good. Dosa tasted really good, they put potatoes in it, I had like three big dosas ;) And their chutneys, especially mint chutney and tamarind chutney were really good. On the day I went there, they had Okra curry, which is one of my favorite curries, and it was really good. I wish I live close by this place, so I could have lunch here more often!!

Yelp
This place is gem. Retains authenticity being commercial in Scottsdale tempe area. Good food and nice courteous welcoming staff too. Food taste awesome. And prices are nominal too. Server even suggested us to try gobhi manchurian next time and encouraged our request to add rayta in our to go boxes. Very nice experience. Kannada people should definitely visit here whenever they crave for their food.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing. Highly recommend the gobi Manchurian, vegetable pakora, and honestly pretty much everything. My friends from southern India have all approved too. Amazing food.

Yelp
One of the worst Indian restaurants I have ever been to. We were in the area and craving masala dosa, decided to go to Udupi based on Yelp reviews. They had the weekend buffet and apparently dosa is part of the buffet. Had no idea somebody can cook such lackluster South Indian food, Everything on the buffet menu tasted terrible. Tofu Manchurian looked like cat vomit . Masala dosa was thick, not crispy, and the potatoes inside just had turmeric and salt, no additional flavor. Sambar tasted weird too. Only Kheer was edible and the tea was okay. I felt bad for the servers, they tried their best, but food was inedible, I don't think I will ever go back. Restaurant was not clean either. Glad that I did not develop food poisoning.

Yelp
I was really craving masala dosa and ordered a few items from here: Masala dosa (comes with sambar and chutney), idli (also comes with sambar and chutney), and out of curiosity, idli Manchurian. I used to eat fried idlis as a kid in India so I thought it would be similar but in a nice spicy sauce. Masala Dosa: This was delicious, very mild, the potato filling was nice and creamy. Idli: Soft, fluffy. Tasty Idli Manchurian: Just no, the sauce was just way too sweet and tasted like straight up ketchup Coconut chutney: I was actually disappointed. It was very under salted and lacked flavor. I didn't really taste any coconut at all. I felt like it needed a kadipatta flavor, maybe ginger too Sambar: This was really not good. Now having grown up in Mumbai I know restaurants there tend to make it sweeter than the South but I just found the sambar to be bland, and missing that nice tamarind flavor. I would come back for the masala dosa but I feel like if they tweaked their recipes a little more and maybe added more salt, this could be very good.

Yelp
I used to be a regular at Udupi but it had gone a bit down hill. I decided to give the weekend buffet another try and wow has it improved! I didn't recognize any of the staff, but the restaurant's decor was the same. I'm guessing it's changed ownership since I was last there years ago? One improvement is that every item on the buffett is clearly marked as vegan or not. They also had new little dishes for the chutneys (very handy!) and the papaddum was fresh. And they had plenty of napkins available (a prior issue given my love of spice)! For the main buffet area, they had the usual veggie soup and rice, but also had excellent "hush puppies" (my simplest comparison) - little fried veggie balls with what I believe is chickpea flour. I engulfed them. The soup was good too - not too spicy but very fresh tasting. Much to my delight, the buffet had both of my favorites - chana masala and Dal. Other vegan items included coconut-coated green beans, an eggplant curry dish and veggie Manchurian (more/different veggie balls but in a sauce). All was great, but the chana masala stood out the most to me. The flavor had lots of nuance - a bit savory with a cinnamon-like flavor, but nicely heated/spiced. They also had a vegan flat bread, which is great for sopping up the curry sauce. The buffet also still comes with a dosa (rolled crepe stuffed with potatoes and other veggies). This was a little less exciting. It was fairly small and only lightly stuffed in the center. I probably could have asked for another, but considering it's six hours later and I'm still stuffed, it was all I needed. One other major improvement - they kept the ice water flowing. I used to have to beg for water (and it usually only had a cube or two of ice). I'm glad to see Udupi is back on my "go to" list. I will definitely be back!

Yelp
I was excited to go come back to my favorite Indian spot. Went from a 5/5 to a 2/5. I really miss the old cook from before this place had closed.

Yelp
Finally made it. I was on the last day of a Groupon deal (FYI 10% cash back on Yelp too) and this was in my way home so I stopped in 10 minutes before they closed. People were still dining in and other came after me as well, so it was pretty chill. I approached an employee and let him know I wanted to order takeout. I perused the menu while he helped others pick up their orders and chose to get samosas and gobi manchurian, been craving that dish for a while. He was nice, commented to me "oh, you know what you want"; Yup, I have my favorites and I do know what I want. Took about 10 minutes or so and I got my food. My items were packaged neatly and I found out at home that they gave me a container of rice as extra, cool. I tried a few pieces of the fried cauliflower, oh so good. It really does remind me of vegetarian orange chicken, and the spice level on it is real nice. I didn't get to eat the rest until the next day, along with the samosa, but both were delicious reheated and I love the array of sauces: spicy mint chutney, sweet tamarind, and mild raita (yogurt). Love that this place is veg-friendly and would like to come for their buffet sometime.

Yelp
This place is dirty. I can't believe they pass any health inspection. The restaurant floors needed to be swept there was a bug on the wall in the dining room and the bathroom had not been cleaned. I was scared to look in the kitchen. But the staff was friendly and the food was passable. And we did not get sick from it!!

Yelp
Slow service, Gobi manchury is pasty spicy and not tasty. Don't order fried pakoras or fried appetizers. Don't come with a kid or expect kids food to come on time. If you are looking for real south Indian food, this is not worth it.

Yelp
Great tasting South Indian food Terrible coffee for 3.99 and it was cold , they had to redo it Didn't find the restaurant to be very clean
