NYC’s High-End Restaurants Want to Step Back From Takeout and Delivery | Eater NY

"When Ugly Baby reopened for indoor dining this month, chef Sirichai Sreparplarn brought back an expanded takeout and delivery menu launched during the pandemic and said it’s here to stay; the restaurant has an open-air kitchen visible from the dining room and a second downstairs kitchen to process takeout and delivery orders without affecting indoor service, and while the dining room can seat 20 people at 50 percent capacity the team plans for takeout and delivery to remain an integral part of the business." - Luke Fortney

This gift store is brazen and fun! They have art items for bathrooms among other things, something that I wouldn’t have found easily! The store is definitely out of the ordinary and I picked up a blingy piece of art for the shower. The lady there was really friendly and fun!

Google
Had the pleasure of stopping by here on a trip to Pike Place market. The store is super cute inside & out and they had a lot of little kits for embroidery & cross stitch, some unique shower-friendly art, as well as tons of adorable stickers, keychains, and shirts. The employee at the register was very friendly & personable. Bonus: They do in fact have a number of products for actual babies!

Google
Kind of overhyped, but VERY overpriced! $65 kids graphic sweatshirts? Please. You can get the same or better at a weekend art market. The rest of the kitschy art is appreciated for one fact: it definitely seems locally made and not (at least the majority of it) mass-produced. Compared to most shops around Pike’s Place, that’s a rarity. There was this cool artwork outside, though!

Google
My nephew and I found this shop while wandering around on our trip to Seattle. We both left happy and excited about the cool new stuff we got. This place is nothing like Seattle’s typical cookie cutter gift shops where they all sell the same thing. They are locals selling their art products and also stuff from other local artists. The owner is very kind and welcoming, she even took the time to talk with us a while. If you’re looking for unique and hilarious, I highly recommend this shop. You’ll not only find something awesome that none of your friends have but you’ll be supporting local business and art community. It’s a win win!

Google
Love this place. Go. Just go. Stop reading, and go. So many surprises in this little shop of awesome. I went two days in a row and probably still missed wonderful things. Shower art, paper art, fab Tees, funny magnets - great place for locals and visitors alike

Sarah S.

Google
This shop is a gem. They sell snarky and hilarious gifts that are unlike anything you'll find somewhere else. They have very specific gifts for people looking for "something that has Seattle on it." They have craft kits, stickers, clothing and OH THE SHOWER ART. The shower walls are truly a wasted space when they could be a full-on art gallery. Also, the owners are very sweet and do a lot of good works as well as being creatives themselves.

Google
If I could give this place a hundred stars I would. I was totally turned around in Seattle, I went the wrong way. I'm so glad I did... It completely screamed STOP!!!!!! From the SSDGM on the window, embroidery/cross stitch stuff, and all the butts, I felt like I was home. If you wanna stop in to a kitschy lil store that has a sense of humor. DO IT you won't be disappointed I will visit every time I'm Seattle bound

Meredith

Google
I had to get some of the outfits for my baby here after finding out they had RINGER JERSEYS FOR BABIES! Now my baby can be a true ugly baby in his mustard romper. They have bibs too - I went initially looking for baby clothes but found other Christmas presents for older kids - definitely check out if you like needlecraft, art and local fashion

Yelp
Delightful little shop. Fun in every direction. Friendly staff. Such cute kits and shower stickies. Nothing to do with babies... aside from the onsie that's said ugly baby on it. 10/10

kim w.

Yelp
Fun store. There's something for everyone. They have stuff that says Seattle on it and gum for the gum wall. Stop in and see the greatest for yourself!
google avatar

Yelp
Always loved the name! In England you always say, ""Oh, what lovely little hands." when looking at an ugly baby. Great shop, delightful staff! Keep up the great work and all of the good stuff! My stuffy brother(the engineer) adores the "things" I send him.

C K.

Yelp
Visiting this shop was one of the highlights of my trip to Seattle. I love the stuff they have.
google avatar

Birdie H.

Yelp
Tambire was very kind and super funny. She brought attention to the shop with her wittiness and sense of humor. The items are ALL influenced by their own thoughts or experiences in life. These are what we call EXCEPTIONAL PEOPLE because they're able to express themselves in ways that others cannot. It's as if they're the voice of the ones who are silenced or has been silenced. Eventually, you will find your voice & I feel this place helps with that. Whether if it's from something as little as showing a little skin in public places, to... a friend using your things without permission, down to realizing the permanent choices you make in life could be BOTH... a REWARDING BURDEN! Lol! Anywho, didn't need much just little trinkets for the girls back at home and of course MY PRINCESS... Kotchiya. Also, if you're a yelper... you can get swag from this business. So don't forget to CHECK IN

Yelp
Had to drop by and give you 5/5 just for the name. Kudos. Right off a busy street so easily accessible. Got my attention!

Yelp
Cute little store with very unique items. My daughter spent a fortune on the shower stickums which were so different, and several clothing items. We had a hard time figuring out where it was, but it was on the street level of the marketplace.
google avatar

Janet N.

Yelp
It's really cute in here! If you want a cute little gift for someone like a pin, stickers, crochet kit, or shower decorations this is a really good shop. It's not a shop for babies and I didn't even see anything with a baby or any of that on it so don't feel bad for any baby the name is just for fun. I think... My favorite thing in here was the handmade shower wall decor. It would definitely give guests a laugh.

Yelp
Cute boutique that really doesn't have much to do with babies. Found this place by following a bunch of chalk drawn markers on the ground while coming down the zig zag. Employee there was friendly and greeted us with unicorn stickers, yaaas I followed the unicorn. They had a lot of artsy stuff including kids and adult shirts with Seattle-esque slogans printed on them and of course laser kittens and unicorns! There are also DIY crafts. I didn't really get to take it all in as my family was ready to go. I picked up a couple shirts for the kids. Price-wise, yes it's a Boutique in downtown so you'll pay for that downtown boutique mark up...but I can't say I don't like supporting locals and small businesses. If you like glitter, funny and sarcastic remarks, and are looking for stickers, pins and other craft Knick knacks this place is a great stop! Check in on Yelp to get a free sticker btw!

Yelp
Incredible stop. It is all super cute and local. The husband we interacted with today was so sweet and kind. A must see for all Seattle trips!!
google avatar

Yelp
I've seen the shower art on social media, and I've been dying to get some. We were in town for a cruise, and decided stop by the shop. The cashier was friendly and I had a great time looking through the store. I bought two awesome pieces of shower art, but could have easily bought more! A special thank you to the owner for having a discount for nurses!
google avatar

Yelp
I always worry when I find a cool little gem like Ugly Baby that they will go the way of other cool spots and disappear. Tiny store filled with fun, unusual and original gift/craft ideas. I found a brilliant card and sticker for a friend, was contemplating a needlepoint (hip and funny) for another. Service is great, friendly but not in your mug, which I so appreciate. Prices are reasonable and who doesn't love an ugly baby?
google avatar

Yelp
Art lovers and those who just like little weird souvenirs this is your spot! Realized I saw the biz on their tiktok page a while ago. Mostly about their shower art. Small space so be careful. Got a little resin shower art piece and it's very cute and holds up well.
google avatar

Yelp
1. Such a cool store 2. Love the shower art and I want to buy them all 3. Fun staff folks 4. Sign up for the rewards and the emails 5. You can't go wrong with anything in this store. Makes great gifts for yourself and others. Buy. All. The. Stuff.

Yelp
This store is so fun!! Lots of stickers, and fun stuff! We will definitely be back!! I wish we lived closer to Seattle so we could visit more often!

Yelp
This is a really fun little store that has hilarious gift options. Staff was really friendly and wearing a mask.

Yelp
What a cute store! I am so glad I wandered in -- the name totally got my attention as I was wandering up and down the Pike Place Market. It's a small boutique type of place, but so full of adorable and colorful things, it's hard not to lose track of time in here as you peruse and read everything. Everything is original and unique, nothing boring and generic here! Good for gifts -- whether for yourself or someone else. It's a small space, but I don't see it getting very crowded because everyone might be busy at the Pike market? Even better -- more space and leisure to peruse all the cute items! Really nice woman who owns the store. Casually chatted with her. Pleasant experience, as opposed to a crowded retail establishment where the young workers don't care about anything. cute cards, shirts, and embroidery kits. However, the main attraction to me was the shower art. You could spend a lot of time reading everything. I didn't want to buy too much and overstuff my suitcase, but I got a cute penguin crafts pack, basically to knit a small penguin toy. See pic! (BTW, a bit obsessed with penguins). Costly at $12, but things are just as expensive and kitchy in the Village. Wish I lived locally so I could always pop by and see what new cute things there are! Definitely worth a trip, just for fun.

Yelp
Well, they did it again. Before I knew what was happening my walls and mirrors are covered in glittery cleverly worded swears. My family back in California has received a number of items; butt key-ring bottle openers, sweet-themed shower art, wood ornaments they put together themselves, I'm even contemplating cross-stitch. I didn't know I was this much of a grandma. But now, I want to send some custom shower art out. I last spoke to some awesome individuals at the shop, they were awesome and helpful and said, "Email us at Ugly Baby, and we can make it happen." And I did, and now- it's going to happen. No one -friend or foe- is safe from receiving a shower art gift.
google avatar

Yelp
I love this little shop. It's a tiny one but the folks who work here are so sweet and are so friendly. I came in and was hoping to get a few DIY craft kits for my nieces, nephews and a few friends. I ended up falling in love with a few totes, perfect for our groceries since shopping in Los Angeles requires reusable bags now. I also found a few real cute lapel pins, post cards, plushies and shirts. I followed a narwhal to this store once. That was super cute. I love that their art is OK in the shower. How fun is that!!! Anyway, if you are ever in town you should try and stop in. It's a fun lil place.
google avatar

Yelp
Super cute store, small but has lots of great stuff. Got a cute cat pin and a fridge magnet.

Yelp
I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! I visit this store every time i'm near Pike Place and bring all of my favorite people here! I first learned of this couple at a street fair up in Bellingham. I didn't purchase any of the shower art there but then regretted it. The next week I looked up their address in Seattle and swiftly went there to purchase four new pieces for my microwave, mirror, and walls. The people that work here are super friendly and the art speaks for itself. SUPPORT LOCAL TALENT! Note: the shop gets a lot of sunlight on warm days and it can be pretty hot in there - if you are in a large group and some people are not interested in looking around, have them wait outside to keep body heat inside the store at a minimum!
google avatar

Yelp
Forget the boring, overpriced Space Needle shirts, magnets, and mugs...if you want to get a Seattle souvenir for the quirky person in your life (or for yourself), come here. I was initially drawn in by the cute animals (that may or may not be fighting). The inside is like an Etsy store brought to life. There are so many cute cards, shirts, and embroidery kits. However, the main attraction to me was the shower art. The prices range from $10 for the small ones, to I think...$20 for the biggest ones? Don't quote me. Anyway, these all have super sassy sayings with a heavy helping of glitter. A lot of them have to do with butts, which is the way it should be. Whether or not these gifts are your thing, you can't deny that this store has personality. It just happens to be a lot like mine!
google avatar

Anna S.

Yelp
This place is a glittery little slice of heaven! Great place for gifts for anyone with a sense of humor and you will probably find a few things you can't live without either. La Ru's stuff is super cute, from the boss window displays, to the robot photo prop, to the tempting t-shirts, but for me, this place is all about Ugly Baby. After buying from Rosalie at craft shows and on etsy for a couple years, I finally made a pilgrimage to Seattle pretty much solely to go to this store. I was NOT disappointed! The store is small, but packed full of fun stuff attached to every possibly colorful surface. I think I spent 2 hours here pawing through everything and trying to cut myself back to only the most awesome pieces my bathroom could not function without (as otherwise my luggage wouldn't have qualified as a carry on going back home). I follow the store on Facebook too and with all the super fun events they host, I am just super jealous that I don't live closer, as it seems like the center of a lot of awesome. Bunny parties, craft events, so so much fun! Sign up for their mailing list so you don't miss out, as they give you lots of great excuses to get out and do interesting things, meet fun new people. So Seattle locals - support this place! Keep it going so I can make yearly pilgrimage to the center of the glitter universe! Yaaaaaay!!!!

Yelp
Such a fun store!! So many cool DIY craft kits and wacky art. The gal working helped me pick out gifts and gave me directions to some other fun spots in seattle. I will be back for more for sure!

Joanna H.

Yelp
Friendly staff from start to finish. First time here was 5 years ago and I made a trip down and couldn't leave without making my way down. I was definitely glad to even know they were still open with the pandemic and all it's always a fear that a local favorite might not be around. Left with some fun and punny souvenirs and of course a few fun stickers and pins for me.
google avatar

James S.

Yelp
What can I say I absolutely love this place. The person behind the counter was chatting me up and wasn't pushy and made it one of my favorite stops in the Seattle area. The art is unique and fun and no matter your interests you're bound to discover something that you can't leave without. If you've got five minutes for walk-through definitely make time for this location.

Chloe D.

Yelp
Such a funny and cute little store. The owner was very friendly and they had a very eccentric and unique set of things for sale!
google avatar

Kristin H.

Yelp
Super cute store full of quirky and fun things. My daughter bought a key chain here and they were super nice to her, giving her an awesome space cat sticker. I can't wait to come back the next time I have visitors to show around. Definitely worth the walk down from the main part of the market.
google avatar

Marci A.

Yelp
calling all my fellow "particular" taste cronies!! this shop is so awesome! super cool pins, awesome custom shower art and diy kits. great for gifts or fun treats fo yo self owner is super nice! he also had an etsy & ig store. cant wait to buy more goodies. got some souvenirs for my friends back in el lay. skip lame "seattle" shirts and get something coolio
google avatar

Alexa A.

Yelp
A safe haven of quirky, handmade goods and DIY kits celebrating the modern craft movement. Cute bunny and robot prints and accessories? Check. Glittery, humorous art for your shower? Definitely. Projects you can make at home? You know it. A pink glitter dinosaur skeleton? Yup. A must see! Just follow the trail of chalk art on Western Avenue leading to their store. You'll be glad you did. PRO-TIP: one of the owners has a STRICT no whistling policy. For real. Don't whistle while you shop. But absolutely do shop quietly and enjoy all the art.
google avatar

Carol S.

Yelp
Tiny shop but full of offbeat treasures! Love the shower art and embroidery kits. Fun+feminist vibe. Super nice staff.

Lindel W.

Yelp
I made an online purchase while out of town for 2 weeks, and when I arrived home, my order was waiting for me. It was priced reasonably and exactly as I expected.
google avatar

Allen G.

Yelp
Found out about this place online somewhere and decided to go visit. It's great! You'll spend about 5-10 minutes here as it's a small shop but they have great silly unique art and shower art. Had chalk art on the sidewalk inviting us in. A+
google avatar

Taylor M.

Yelp
This shop is the cutest! I follows some chalk drawn unicorns with arrows leading to the shop and I walk in and it was amazing! The lady makes the stuff there herself and she is so kind! Will for sure come back!
google avatar

Kayce Q.

Yelp
My family and I LOVE this shop! We have stopped in a handful of times and always enjoyed the welcoming atmosphere, well curated mix of cute and quirky, and general uniqueness of the space. My kids are 11 and 7 and both really enjoy the shop. While the awesome Shower Art can sometimes be a bit inappropriate for little eyes (this is kind of what makes them so awesome), I am grateful they are hung up higher and not at kid's eye level. I have never had a problem with my kids - the employees and owners have always treated them with respect and often engaged them in conversation. My daughter's favorite shirt is the unicorn rollerskating, which she is outgrowing. I look forward to another visit to this awesome small business.
google avatar

Jade L.

Yelp
Such a cute little shop! I love their artwork, especially the ones of sloth climbing the space needle or iconic Seattle tourist attractions with the forest fauna. Way better than the touristy stuff you'll get around Pike's. I bought two for my niece's nursery and a shirt too (again, the sloth climbing the Space Needle). A little pricey, but that's what you get for a boutique-y place.
google avatar

Charity R.

Yelp
I have been going to Pike Place Market since I was a little girl. I *love* the chance to look at all the cool local art and meet the actual artists. The two owners handmade all the artsy stuff in there, and isn't going to Pike Place all about experiencing a bit of true Seattle? (The answer is yes!) Personally, I am a huge handmade jewelry fan. (I still have my baby ring from the Market.) It is no surprise that I LOVE LARU NECKLACES! I first saw them a couple of years ago at an art show. What IS surprising is that the necklace is so darling that I never take it off. For someone who has always worn a different necklace every day, it has been strange (but oh-so-right) to be so in love with this art to change my jewelry-wearing habits. Also, the Shower Art is amazingly funky AND hilarious. (I literally laugh every morning in the shower looking at all my clever and funny shower art... BEST way to start your day!) What can I say? This art makes the BEST gifts for yourself as well as your loved ones!
google avatar

Cathy A.

Yelp
How fun are you Ugly Baby and La Ru! This is my type of Seattle souvenir. They had a number of embroidery and crafty projects. I almost got the little gnome kit. There were some tee shirt and tank options in the back, and cool wall art. It was easy to like a ton of stuff from here. They even had these quirky, fun acrylic art blocks that you can put in your shower. They suction to the wall. Definitely worth checking out.
google avatar

mike c.

Yelp
I bought something last-minute for two women at this shop, and both of them raved about the gifts. That's the best endorsement I can offer to any place. I recommend Ugly Baby and La Ru for anyone looking for a unique, and inexpensive gift idea. It's also a fun shop to hang out in.
google avatar

L R.

Yelp
Had a weekend with a friend in Seattle and she did the "We HAVE to take you here!" thing. Great selection of smaller, reasonably priced but still great art. The shower art is the best and what my friend took me in there for. I stood there forever because I liked them all and couldn't decide what to get, ended up getting a good handful and I will definitely come back next time I am in Seattle. Cute T Shirts, prints, and DIY mini art kits. I didn't know until after we left that and nice girl manning the shop was one of the artists, I would have told her how awesome she was. But she watched us indecisively look through the shower art and talk about how we loved everything, so I am sure she knew. I really loved everything in there!!! Also, go take your picture in the wooden cute robot with a face cutout to stick your head in. If you are having trouble finding the shop in the maze of the market and side streets, the owners cleverly put out little chalk robots on the sidewalk that point in the direction to go. A must do if you are going to the market area.
google avatar

Allison P.

Yelp
Lots of glitter, cute shirts, fancy Jewry, pretty art work, unique craft items, and lots of inappropriate sayings equals a great place!!! Love the waterproof shower art!!! Spent forever reading all the sayings and designs!!! Laughing at all the sayings (poop comes up a lot)! My little girl also loved the art, she wanted them all! There is shower art for ever budget. The worker also says you can get custom ones! This place is a MUST if you are in the area!!!
google avatar

Ruobin W.

Yelp
Loved the designs, the artistry and the humor. My girlfriend bought a great pair of earrings with robots on them, which unfortunately she promptly lost. However, we still have a couple stickers to remember you by and hopefully I can get the same earrings from you at another point.
google avatar

Maria H.

Yelp
What fantastic, original merchandise. So rad and entertaining. You kind of feel like you've seen everything and then you see ShowerArt and realize there's still new things in the world. Really nice customer service as well. Would definitely shop there again.
google avatar

Helena H.

Yelp
This cute shop is filled with creative and unusual crafty art, primarily from the two artists who own the place. There's illustrated artworks by LaRu - stuff like robots and skulls and bunnies and other creatures, on pendants and belt buckles and the like. And then there's Ugly Baby's glittery, toy-filled waterproof art that attaches to your shower with a suction cup. They usually have funny slogans inside and I've never seen anything like them before - a majorly unique gift. Great addition to the Pike Place Market, fun stuff, and fits in neatly with the "meet the maker" and "shop local" movements.

Snowda M.

Yelp
Ugly Baby's designs are great! Between my shirt, pencils and pins I am bound to get complements. The shirt is very comfortable and goes great with any style. The pencils are good quality and sharpen well. And I have to say that my new pin was a great addition to my collection. I highly recommend stopping by Ugly Baby when in Seattle.
google avatar

M B.

Yelp
Our family LoVeS this awesome shop. The t-shirts, stickers, key chains, magnets are a combination of hilarious and creative. The staff is always very friendly and welcoming.

Christine S.

Yelp
An absolute gem! Out of all the shops I visited in Seattle, this one was by far my favorite. I loved all the quirky items made by local artists. The magnets, stickers, pins, prints and shirts made for awesome souvenirs to bring back to the east coast.

Ben C.

Yelp
The arts are decent. The low rating is for full load of attitude I get when asking for direction to the Gum Wall. Not a big fan of forced sale.
google avatar

Kathy V.

Yelp
Fun store. Lots of fun and unique things. Highly recommend. Will be going here for future baby gifts.
