Ugly Butterfly Restaurant and Bar, Cornwall

Just had a wonderful lunch at The Ugly Butterfly and wanted to thank Adam and his team, especially Tom for giving such a superb service and menu. Went for the four course option and every dish was superbly prepared, presented and explained. Wonderful to see a restaurant sustain ably resourcing from local providers and using the whole animal rather than discarding elements. Living in Cornwall we are lucky to have a host of top restaurants with wonderful chefs, but rate this place as one of the best if not the best we have tried. Thanks again and we look forward to seeing you again in the future.

Unbelievably good. Like 11/10! The team were incredible, so passionate and knowledgeable about the ingredients and processes. I could have talked to them all day. Obviously, the setting and view are second to none. The 4 course lunch seemed like great value. We wanted to have cheese but there was no stomach space! If you're considering it - go. Mark my word they'll have a star within a year.

Lunch so we chose the menu where can choose 3 or 4 dishes for a set price. The food devised by Adam Handling was overall superb. My Cornwall Hen didn't deliver as much as the other dishes but was still good. Sustainably is an obvious passion within the restaurant and the message delivered clearly. The price point is expensive however the food and level of service does warrant that. Izzy, our server, was brilliant. Friendly without being intrusive and her knowledge level of the dishes was very impressive. I would recommend a visit for an unforgettable culinary experience

We celebrated my birthday with dinner here and it was such a memorable experience. From the thoughtful greeting card to the warm hospitality of the staff, everything felt so welcoming. The tasting menu that evening highlighted seafood, and it truly told a story — Chef Adam takes you on a culinary journey along the English coastline, showcasing the finest regional flavors. The presentation was creative, striking, and at times even playfully charming. A wonderful dining experience I’d highly recommend. Definitely worth a visit when in Cornwall!

We were curious to try Ugly Butterfly 2.0 in its new location and even rearranged our trip to accommodate the new location. We are so glad that we did, it was a very memorable experience. The team were full of smiles and showed no shortage of enthusiasm with drinks and food. It was lovely being able to sit outside and enjoy the weather and fully soaking up the view. As for the food, it was utterly sensational. Having been big fans of the tasting menus before we surprised ourselves with how much we enjoyed choosing a dish. ‘Mother’ is true perfection. We had oysters and every course. Just go for it Absolutely faultless and in fact quite incredible.

This restaurant is a dream. We were welcomed by an incredibly friendly team and shown to our table overlooking the beach. From the very beginning, the knowledgeable sommelier impressed us with her guidance through the wine list, setting the tone for an exceptional meal. For the rest of the lunch, Stephanie took wonderful care of us—professional, attentive, and genuinely passionate—explaining each course and highlighting the best of the local produce. The whole experience was seamless, thoughtful, and memorable. Without hesitation, we would place the Ugly Butterfly in our top three UK restaurants, even when judged against very fierce competition.

Treated to afternoon tea for my birthday. Even single thing was delicious, the service was polite and friendly and the views are fantastic for watching wipe outs and checking the conditions. Can't think of any way this experience could have been improved. I also got a birthday card signed by the staff and a birthday cake which looks so good but I'm too full as yet. Thank you to the team, it was perfect

Thank you so much to Adam and his team for making our anniversary meal absolutely perfect. We felt so welcomed (even being a younger couple) from the friendly team who spoke to us about the food, drinks and our time away in Newquay and what we have done for our anniversary. They made fabulous suggestions for alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks (that wasn't just juice). The service was impeccable, any questions asked were answered. A real credit to the team for being so knowledgeable! Definitely will be coming again 🫶.
