Nestled in Jamaica Plain, Ula Cafe serves fresh baked goods and hearty sandwiches in a vibrant, artsy space, complete with cozy outdoor seating.
"Ula Cafe in Jamaica Plain is the type of community cafe where it’s easy to feel at home, even on the first visit. There are stickers and paintings for sale from local artists, a free community bookshelf, and a pay-it-forward option to prepay for someone else’s breakfast. Don’t miss their pastries, especially their flaky, buttery hibiscus scone, and know that their B-sandwich comes on a bagel that rivals any of the ones you’ll find on this guide. The cafe has a friendly staff and ample indoor and outdoor seating, making this a great place for working on that collection of essays you’ve been writing for years, or catching up with friends who moved to JP and are now, officially, cooler than you." - lala thaddeus

"This beloved neighborhood cafe serves up seasonal salads, soups, and sandwiches, coffee from Rhode Island-based roaster New Harvest, and community spirit. In addition to the reliable food options and the local art adorning the walls, the cafe operates a pay-it-forward wall that allows participants to either pay for a free drink or meal for others, or redeem a free meal or drink from the wall." - Celina Colby
"The weekend lines that snake out the door at Ula don’t lie: This is one of the top spots in the neighborhood for solid breakfast sandwiches. Get the B-Sandwich with egg, melty cheese, a sweet and herby rosemary-maple spread, and a choice of bacon." - Eater Staff, Nathan Tavares
"On a per capita basis, JP seems to have more coffee shops filled with people whose jobs somehow allow them to hang out in coffee shops all day than any other Boston neighborhood. Our favorite, though, is Ula Cafe in the brewery complex on Armory. The sandwiches here are legitimately good - not just good in the sense that they get the job done so you don’t feel bad about using their wifi for three hours - and there are a ton of vegan options that anyone would enjoy, like the curried tofu. It also helps that this place is a little less polished than the Neros of the world, making it feel more like a place run by a bunch of friends than a place run by people in boardrooms trying to figure out what the kids are into these days." - dan secatore
