Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day all Month Long at These NYC Bars | Eater

"Now that the weather’s warming up, Ulysses’ in Fidi is a great option for an outdoor celebration. Here, tables cover the winding, aptly named Stone Street (the first street to be paved with cobblestones in what was then New Amsterdam) and fill up quickly during happy hour. Start the night here and see where it leads you." - Lee Musho

Get Into the St. Patrick’s Day Spirit Early at These NYC Spots | Eater

"FiDi-based Ulysses is serving up some serious Irish American history: Located on historic Stone Street, also known as the oldest street in NYC, it was the first street to be paved in what was then called New Amsterdam. Now, tables cover the cobblestones, perfect for an outdoor celebration. Open until 4 a.m., this Stone Street hotspot will be an outdoor, all-day party on Saturday, the tables filled with platters of their signature wings." - Lee Musho

Ulysses - Review - Financial District - New York - The Infatuation

"Maybe you don’t feel like going home quite yet after Happy Hour drinks on Stone Street, or perhaps you’re looking to celebrate with clients after closing a deal at dinner. Head to Ulysses, an Irish pub with a stage in an attached bar room where bands play every Wednesday through Saturday. It’s your best option for live music in FiDi. photo credit: Alex Staniloff" - Matt Tervooren

Google
Nice spot on Stone Street. Classic pub atmosphere. Friendly staff. Fairly limited draft beer options and what they offered was not great. I guess there’s a reason just about everyone I saw was drinking a Guinness or a simple well drink. We stopped by in the late afternoon so we were hungry for a bite to eat. The food offerings sounded better in theory than they actually were. I ordered a crispy chicken sandwich and it looked nice in terms of presentation, but it tasted SO bland. The chicken, the bread, the aioli, all of it was flavorless. So that being said this place is probably a better spot for just a late night pint of Guinness more than anything else.

Google
Great experience on the cobble-stoned Stone St! With beer & wine, salad & a hummus platter. All pretty good!

Been in NYC for 22 years and this place is THE BEST ! Food is great, service is amazing, prices are unbelievably cheap. Recommended to EVERYONE.

Google
Really nice fish n chips. It better be if it’s a from an Irish Pub. Very strip down Irish pub that reminds you of simpler times. Noting pretentious about here. Great selection of Irish Whiskey and they pour an excellent pint of Guinness. Much to my surprise the staff that we interacted with were from Ireland. They happened to be students over for the summer to get some experience working in the United States. Yet not all staff is from there. It was just my wife and I and we sat in a booth big enough for about 7 people to fit in. Not a busy day when we arrived so seating was plenty full.

Google
My most frequented bar in nyc. Avoid cocktails or well made drinks. Stick to beer. Fun on Thursdays when there is a band. Mixed age crown, though skews younger. You will leave the bar with 10 numbers

Google
Amazing that they take over the streets and it's like a giant party. Imagine that Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton used to walk the same street. Great for a company party but indoors it's almost impossible to hear because it's so loud.

Google
Used to have great bartenders but they all left. Even during the day used to have a crowd not empty. Went downhill. Toxic bouncer plus a few toxic bartenders makes for a bad place.

Google
I went to Ulysses during Oktoberfest and had a very frustrating experience. After ordering a $9 pretzel, I waited 10 minutes before being told it would take 30 minutes, something I wish had been mentioned before I ordered. The bartender made me feel like it was my fault for not asking, which added to the frustration, especially since there was no manager on duty. After waiting 30 minutes, the pretzel arrived cold and wasn’t worth it. Overall, poor service and communication. If you plan to order something simple like a pretzel, expect a long wait.

Yelp
A fun spot in FiDi with great Lobster Monday deals -- we stopped in to get the Lobster, Baked Potato meal and it was quite the experience. It's a satisfying (but messy) experience to crack open your own lobster! I'd come back for lobster rolls.
google avatar

Yelp
Not sure where they are picking prices from these days. Macallan 12, not even at knuckle, single modest pour was $30 w tip. Crowd is 20ish and packed some nights. Typical for Stone St. Pass.
google avatar

Jacky C.

Yelp
I can't believe I got dragged down to Stone Street for a party, but here I am. This spot is decently large, but it's packed, dark, and full of recent grads hitting on each other or whatever they do these days. Make TikTok videos. Who knows. The music is loud so hearing someone else talk is very difficult and I ended up getting tired to screaming so someone could hear me. Did I mention it's dark inside? Who decided to dark off the lights?
google avatar

Karen N.

Yelp
The service was great, the lobsters were fresh, and the decor had a pub-like feel to it. My friends and I had a great deal only on Mondays! Show up early, they ran out right after we got all of our lobsters! We'll be back again soon!!
google avatar

Yelp
Lively live music on a Friday night playing the last two decades' top hits. 90% of patrons are transplants under 25. Limited drinks catalog. Quite a bit of space for a Manhattan bar, both inside and out.
google avatar

Jackie O.

Yelp
Such a fun night life! Excellent happy hour and one of the biggest bars on stone street ! Food is yummy! And the service is great! They have outdoor seating during the summer and the spring!
google avatar

Alyvia P.

Yelp
Returned to an old haunt last night with friends and wished they still had the pretzels! The fries and drinks were great as always. We had to go inside due to the rain but I'd recommend not going to the live music side- it was insanely loud and impossible to hear each other.

Thomas B.

Yelp
Went to the Stone St Oktoberfest. Ulysses disappointed me once again. A total rip off place. Sign said $17.00 for a liter of Spaten. They charged $21.00. Questioned it and was told + tax. Are the taxes higher for Ulysses than the rest of New York City?
google avatar

Brandon H.

Yelp
Such a great spot! Nice breeze and great staff! Had a Ulysses burger and Guinness beer. Definitely a nice spot for dinner after work. Groovy vibe and look forward to returning!
google avatar

Paulette C.

Yelp
You HAVE TO COME HERE ON MONDAY'S!! For $26, you get a whole 1 1/2 pound lobster, huge baked potato, corn on the cob and a draft beer! It was the BEST meal and least expensive in NY!!

Yelp
Visit Date: February 25, 2023 I came here with my friends to see Rubix Kube again because they are awesome. One of my friends and I do not drink alcohol but we had to ask multiple bartenders before we got one to honor the free drink it said we were supposed to have on the printed ticket. Our one friend that drank ended up with 3 amaretto shots. It got super crowded, expect this place to be extremely crowded on a Saturday night. If you want any chance at getting a seat get in early. My friends and I had to stake out a space at the bar and eat our food standing. When the show started we couldn't see anything until we managed to sneak to the front of the stage. So also be mindful you might want to try to get a spot in front of the stage area ahead of time as well. Besides being overcrowded this was a fun night at Ulysses' with good food and a great show!

Yelp
Well, first of all, I absolutely love this place! I always come here with my friends after work, and we feel right at home. The bartenders are super friendly, and sometimes there's live music. I haven't experienced the same live music twice, which keeps things fresh and exciting! What I really like is that there's no pressure to keep ordering drinks all the time. You can just hang out and order at your own pace. I adore this spot; it has really cool sections, and the bathrooms are always clean. The security can be a bit strict at times, but it's understandable since it's a nightlife spot. Overall, I just love coming here!
google avatar

Yelp
This spot is pretty cool. Came in for an office holiday party. The restaurant was very hard to find because of the scaffolding. Once I finally find it and entered there isn't a host at the entrance so it is hard to tell who works there and ask for help when I was trying to locate the party. The food was ok, regular wings, veggies and burgers bit not very flavorful. Pretty cool to visit to grab a quick meal and drink, I guess.
google avatar

Amy H.

Yelp
If you are looking for a proper Guinness this is the place. The fish and chips are just right! There was live music playing and what a blast! Service is on point.

Jasrina K.

Yelp
Had a horrible experience at this bar. My boyfriend asked the bartender for some water for me, and the bartender rudely yelled at him. When I politely asked why, the bartender responded with "What? What? What?" and then cussed at me. I've seen many reviews mentioning the same rude bartender, so I'm puzzled why this person is still employed. I have included a picture of the bartender in this review and have video footage of him being rude. I would never recommend this bar to anyone.
google avatar

Brensi M.

Yelp
This is a great place to just hang out and have a drink. It is spacious and the ambiance is cool. The bar in the middle and the decor is nice. The bartender was great and the cocktails were tasty. Will definitely come back here.

Allison R.

Yelp
t me when I was paying my bill - even after being kicked out. He says the owner - Harry - does not allow laptops on the bar or any table in the restaurant at any time. Then he screamed, "Bitch!" as he walked away from me. The bar also did not have Teremana tequila or Don Julio reposado (which seems to me a staple). I will never come back to Ulysses ever again. Something is wrong with Simon. He definitely seems unstable and off-kilter. Please take my advice and never come here, as long as staff like Simon work here. He full on assaulted me. It was so bad that my friend got out her phone and videotaped it - with sound. I hope Harry reads this and responds. I have not known of Harry to promote such behavior. Food: 1/5 | Service:

Yelp
Let me preface this by saying I've been here a couple of times over the years, but I have only gotten the Lobster Monday special, which is $25 lobster + beer/glass of wine. That does alone is AMAZING!! Lobster was very delicious and you could drench it in the butter they give you. My one qualm about this place is the service, or the lack thereof. The place seemed very understaffed - I don't know if that's the case on other days of the week, but at least the most recent Monday I went, I saw only 1 bartender for the first 10 minutes of being seated. I had to ask the bartender to get a server, and the server did not come out until a while later. However, they were pretty fast in serving our food, which was nice.
google avatar

Brad B.

Yelp
Lobster night is what this review is solely about which only occurs on Monday. A perfectly cooked lobster with delicious corn on the cob and a potato the size of a Baby bull dog and a great pint of beer for $25. The service was very friendly and attentive. A great old Irish bar that gives you incredible value on a Monday night.

Riley C.

Yelp
Terrible service and bad food. Drinks were foamy and warm. The bouncer was racist and wouldn't let my Indian friend in because he claimed he smelled bad. Overall terrible place would not recommend

Daiane C.

Yelp
Food is poor quality. Need a lot of improvement , fries were ugly, not all well fried
google avatar

Shirin B.

Yelp
Came here with a few co-workers for an outdoor lunch, and overall Ulysses has decent food, delicious drinks, and all of the FiDi bro culture you could ever ask for. I ordered the mezze/hummus plate which had a perfect combination of dolmas, hummus, and veggies. I wanted to go the healthy route which is why I went with it, but their vegetarian options are lackluster in general. Next time I'd go for their veggie burger or grilled cheese. The drinks are delicious, and after one of my friend's found a fly in her drink, they immediately made her another one. As someone who isn't a fan of beer, the beer here is good (their IPA's aren't super hoppy and on the lighter end).
google avatar

Yelp
The worst service you could ever get. Saturday early night, live music show for $10. I was enjoining just my second beer standing next to the bar when all of a sudden the Irish bartender closed my tap, dropped my credit car in front of me and just kicked me out of the busy bar. More over he called a security guy who pushed me outside through the back door. Have never got such mean service and attitude in general in my life, especially at the place I have been many times before. Without any reason! Looks like he even added the tips closing my tap, needles to say I would not had tipped him a penny. Just on principle I will disclaim this transaction. This guy must be fired immediately for his behavior and hospitality.
google avatar

Isabella B.

Yelp
I've been here twice on weekend nights, and both times have been strange. Many many young girls who were clearly beyond wasted, guys who are looking to take these girls home. Bartenders should be cutting people off but this doesn't seem like the case. Dealt with an incident last night where a girl was barely able to stand and a guy was trying to kiss her and take her home. She wanted help so we intervened and got the guy "kicked out" only for him to come back in to try to get her to go with her again. Security did not care about this girl because "she's a regular and it happens often". She was either drugged or over served. Regardless, I hope she made it home okay and this whole experience left a horrible taste in my mouth. Too many men running this place who don't care what happens to these young girls.

Matthew B.

Yelp
My wife and I love Ulysses'. We come here often with friends and family, especially on Monday nights; a pound and half lobster, corn on the cob and baked potato with a pint draft of Guinness, soda or juice. Our grand boys had their first lobsters here and we come back every summer!
google avatar

Dede C.

Yelp
We didn't order any food here this was just a stop on our pub crawl the last night we were in New York. We were there after midnight and were able to snag a bar table with quick service for the beers that we ordered. Not too loud and not too quiet, a really nice vibe and atmosphere. Shortly after we arrived the tables filled up but everybody waited patiently until seats opened to grab the tables that were available. We're definitely starting again my next trip and try the food.
google avatar

Holly K.

Yelp
Review based on drinks only, no food!!!! Have been to this bar a few times now, as it is close to me in FiDi. Sit right at the bar every time, no long wait, music playing at a good volume, and pretty good service. I've received a few free drinks every time from the bartender, in addition to the drinks being reasonably priced. Bar is not "classy" or "clean" if that is what you're looking for. Just a typical run-of-the-mill Irish bar with lots of seating and your typical drink list.
google avatar

Mary C.

Yelp
Came here on St Paddy's to see the live music they advertised all over their Instagram page, but when we get there the music was only for a private event. Very off putting that they would heavily advertise this fake news. Staff was condescending when asked about the mix up. What a shame- wanted to like this place.
google avatar

Jason C.

Yelp
First time visitor. I was seated quickly and enjoyed my meal. It wasn't very crowded at first but still quite loud due to sound system making it tough to converse with my friend. Live music kicked in near the end of our visit which we enjoyed in the next room. I would return next time I'm in the area.
google avatar

Erin L.

Yelp
I feel sorry for all the negative reviews- I empathize, and I can completely see all of those scenarios play out here. Let me put it this way: this is not "bring your family for a dinner" location. This is "my coworkers and I are stressed cause it's been crazy at work and we need to unwind" and/or "my friends and I were chilling at another bar but now it's 2am, the last bar is closing up and it's the financial district... where else can we go?" Then you'll have a good time
google avatar

Tiffany D.

Yelp
Pub place in the heart of Wall Street! I'm liking the musky and dreary vibes, but modern restrooms! Grab a beer with bar bites! It's so divey - I'm lovin' the surroundings when I was here. Low key spot. It's a great tucked away bar from the energy and wrath of the bull market.
google avatar

Michelle W.

Yelp
Came here after work with my friend last week - one of the less busy spots on stone street compared to the other taverns and restaurants. they don't have happy hour which is a bummer. drinks are alright. and the oysters were okay as well. pricy - $3 each. the service was friendly!
google avatar

Nikki T.

Yelp
Our local spot, good drinks music and staff. We love Simon and James they are so kind and always take such good care of us and everyone. Highly recommend Ulysses and our bartender friends :)

Lexa M.

Yelp
Disgustingly misogynistic establishment. Myself and two friends were about to enter the Ulysses when a bouncer (not sure of his name but he's an overweight black man who wore a red beanie and a charlie brown snoopy tee shirt) told us that if women wanted empowerment, we needed to pay $40 each to him. For context, I had said happy international women's day to my friend as we walked through the door. The bouncer then stopped us and said, "empowerment costs forty dollars here". I then asked the bouncer why he didn't understand what was wrong with such a statement. He quickly became very angry and criticized my body. He told us we were no longer allowed inside and as we walked away, yelled at us and said, "you talk a lot of shit for a bitch with no ass". He continued to scream at us as we quickly walked away in fear. I have no clue as to how an establishment that dehumanizes and equates the worth of women to their physicality has managed to sustain itself in a progressive city like New York. I am so disappointed to see Ulysses drive celebrated misogyny through the Financial District.
google avatar

K P.

Yelp
Fun bar for after work crowd or late Saturday night. They had a live band that was player cover music from the 90s and it was absolutely amazing!
google avatar

McKayla W.

Yelp
SO picture this... it's st. Patrick's day and it's mayhem at stone street (as per usual) and all we want to do is get into our favorite bar... Ulysses. Ross, the bouncer in the back, told us that if we waited in line that someone would get us soon to let us in. We wait in line. THEN we see Ross, behind us, letting a group in before us. Me and my big New Yorker mouth yelled at Ross, in a friendly way, and said that he better let us in next because I ain't blind and I can see him letting people in before us. With a laugh and a smile, Ross promptly let us in shortly after I yelled at him. Ross apparently isn't technically an employee at Ulysses but brownie points for him because he ultimately held true to his promise and took my yelling like a champ. Cheers!
google avatar

Yelp
Terrible experience solely because of the awful security. They bullied my friend and said her ID didn't look real (we are years past the legal age), when she called them out on it they barred us from entering any bar on the block. I'm visiting from out of town and it ruined my entire weekend.
google avatar

Abeda C.

Yelp
This bar I'd randomly end up in whenever I used to be on Stone St..never knew where it is that I'd stumble into, but now that I work around here and get tired of working MUCH MORE, I end up in Ulysses. Became a favorite on the block, the food is delicious here, like seriously! The burgers are juicy, the fries are crispy and they have pretty good sauces for the apps. I was not disappointed when I came to eat here with my co-workers. Left full, and happy with all the margs I had. There's outdoor seating as well. Decent service and friendly vibe inside! I surely recommend to people searching for a bar to grub and/or drink at, when around FiDi!
google avatar

Yelp
Wrote this review still sitting at the table because I felt this was important. This is a terrible establishment, 0/10 recommend. Tables outside are shakey, can't even find a stable one. Shrimp cocktail was store bought/frozen and you could taste it. Ordered the fish and chips and the bulky piece was RAW and had a PARASITE WORM in it.. seriously. When I told the waitress she acted like I said the food was cold, absolutely no empathy, just took it back like it was a regular thing so I do NOT suggest ordering that dish, or if you do, make sure the hearty pieces are COOKED THROUGH. Still charged full price for the other items, NO MANAGER has come up to us yet... just appalled. Only thing saving this place are the blood orange mimosas, which is the only reason I'm not raising hell in this place right now. Tread lightly, go to the spot next door

Yelp
On a jaunt down to see the oldest street in America we stumbled across Ulysses - a perfect Irish bar playing American country / Americana music like The Steeldrivers, Devil Makes Three, Colter Wall, Old 97s, Turnpike Troubadours, and more. Good oysters, amazing fries, and even better whiskey / cocktail selection. I wanted to stay here and write lyrics for my next album all night long. There is outdoor seating but then you miss out on the great and historic indoor pub vibe. Service was awesome - even when I ordered a wrong drink - the bar fixed it and introduced me to my new favorite rye. Live music on Thursdays. It's a bit out of the way from my usual haunts but I love this place.
google avatar

Bill P.

Yelp
There is probably no bad bar in this part of town that is open late. Always a crowd no matter how late you arrive. This was definitely a harbor in the time of storm, albeit for a humorous reason, but the Mac-n-cheese bites and chicken tenders did not disappoint. Not really a dive bar, the crowd was too elevated, but certainly a place you can go as you are, which is more important.
google avatar

Pasquale R.

Yelp
Huge busy spot with tons of craft beers on draft and a fun atmosphere. We went here for happy hour and scored some prime spots at the bar. They happened to have a whiskey tasting booth open which was a nice bonus. The bartenders were attentive and friendly. Definitely a fun spot for a drink and some shenanigans. When it gets warmer they have an outside area on the closed off st where you can mingle with patrons of other bars...love it during his time. ENJOY!

Yelp
Stopped here with family after our revolutionary war era tour. Very cool on the inside. Feels like an old style tavern. Restaurant is on cobblestone road. Great ambiance. Very friendly service. Right as we walked in they insisted we sit at the best table in the restaurant. They were able to accommodate my pregnancy request for a virgin mojito which I thought was delicious. My husband got the Brooklyn seasonal beer, a lager he enjoyed. For food my husband and I split the salmon salad (the picture is my portion only). It was good. We shared the chili. It's covered in cheddar cheese just like you see with Swiss over French onion soup. Delicious. We thought it needed a little kick so added tabasco sauce. But it was a perfect hearty meal for the rainy day that it was. My mom got the grilled chicken gyro-she said she's had better but it was still good. The fries were good as well(it's hard to mess up a French fry though am I right??) My dad got the steak salad and enjoyed it. We were all very happy with our food choices. Food was out quick after we ordered. I wouldn't say omg you have to come here for the food. Really it's for the feel of the tavern and the food isn't bad and the service is great! Of course it's a little pricey but it's New York. If we were in the area again and had different family In town we would take them here!

Yelp
Worst manager in the world I came in to use the atm . The atm didn't disburse the requested amount and I brought this to the managers attention. The manager, Santiago, literally told me " I can't help you. It's not our issue" Give me my money back. Are you f*cking kidding me??? F*ck this place . Seriously. My first time here and I already will confirm they will rob you at no cost. Let me have been a white girl and I promise you, he would've at least attempted to give me the atm company or assisted me .

Yelp
I have always loved Ulysses. Tonight I met trina the bartender. She was very rude to my girlfriend, who is a complete sweetheart. At the end of the night, I asked to close out. She said "I don't have your card". And walked away immediately (It was not busy at all). I then asked if she could check again. She rolled her eyes, checked again, found my card and said "here's your gold card" in a condescending way. I said back "you were very rude to my girlfriend earlier and now me and that's not very nice"... she then decided seemlessly transition into a barrage of insults as I left. I'll remove this negative review if Trina the bartender apologizes.

Yelp
Im a harsh burger critic. Mainly because I come from wisconsin and we have the best dairy/farm meat. The majority of nyc burgers are a waste of cash. The cheeseburger here is phenomenal and I will be coming back to eat it. It tastes like a solid classic, soda fountain shop, drive thru burger. Smash style patties. Mamma Mia. I got a double and it was plenty of food. I'll get a single next time for sure. Cheers to this place.
google avatar

Karen S.

Yelp
I have made a new policy to make my words sweet considering how many times I have to eat them. Mmmm... sweet AND salty. I've seen too many awesome live shows here to care about the seating anymore. Plus it leaves room to dance, not sit! And people do dance. I don't know who's doing the sound the past few times I've been this year, but I'm doing a slow clap for you sir. Outstanding. And ultimately, when you're here for the music that's what matters. Well that and my prerequisite doubles served in a pint glass. Most shows I've been to have a $10 door charge but you get that back with the $10 drink ticket. After that, have all the cost and time effective doubles you want. There's food, and I've eaten it in the past, so I remember it being good, but for the sake of journalistic integrity, I'll update when I've mangiare'd there again. There's a lively crowd on Saturdays. Not crowded and there may be some people in formal dinner wear tumbling in. So this makes for the after-party-party spot around Wall Street. They were fun. But that's mostly because of the band, The Jewbadours, purveyors of classic Yacht Rock. Think of Hall & Oats and Michael McDonald and you've got the idea. Such a great night. Drinks, dinner, a show and dancing... that pretty much covers everything one needs for a good time, and here it is all in one spot.

Dielia B.

Yelp
Went with my neighbor after a very long and stressful day (almost lost my puppy). We met two guys and my neighbor went to drop his dog (we live just around the corner). I was verbally assaulted by one of the two white guys (he said some graphic sexual things to me and picked up on my neighbor because he was guy)... when I stoop up to him he threatened me and said he would call the cops and so I told him to go ahead and that I would wait- his reply "well you know what they'll do to you" ... I was asked then by the manager and the bouncer to leave and have been banned from that place. At no time did they ask me what happened. They threw me out and the 2 guys stayed. Few days later as I was walking my dog I saw them do the same to a non Caucasian person- I hate calling on the race card... but I absolutely felt attacked as a black woman and the manager is such a RUDE man alongside with most of their bouncers. Definitely a -10 for me!

Yelp
Ulysses is a great place to kick back and let your hair down a little. It is great for after work drinks with colleagues and I'd even say it is a great place to hang over the weekend as well. As one of a few reliably good and fun places, you should check it out when in the area. Be warned that Ulysses can seem like a plain Jane pub but it can be soooo much more than that. I have nothing but fond memories and good times in mind when I think of all the time I spent here, with or sans my former colleagues and friends. The food is above average bar food, made upon request, which is possibly why some folks complain about the speed of service. If you arrive with the right expectation, or lack thereof, you should have a great time. The place is pretty spacious and thus you can create a fun atmosphere with your group in your own little section, or have fun people watching until friends appear. The spacing helps to accommodate large reservations and particular events. The staff is friendly and well versed in bar hospitality. Thankfully, the venue is always very clean and well organized when I've frequented. Ulysses is more than alright in my book. Wish it was closer to home!
