My date and I decided to have lunch at the Irvine Spectrum after some other morning festivities, since we could walk around the Spectrum and hang out after eating. Among the restaurant options the Spectrum had, Umami Burger stood out to him since they did not have a location in his area.
The hostess told us to sit anywhere, and we just sat down at one of the empty tables. Apparently this was their shaded patio area, and I didn't realize until later that they had an inside area that we would have probably preferred. Good to know for future visits, if he wants to come back.
Their menu is pretty simple, a two-sided piece of paper you can hold with one hand. My date had the Single Umami Burger which comes with their smashed patty, dashi onions, American cheese, pickled chips, umami sauce on a squishy bun. I had the Single Bacon Ranch Burger which comes with the smashed patty, dashi onions, American cheese, bacon, miso ranch sauce, on a squishy bun. We also got a side of fries to share. Since I had no preferences, he picked the Thin Fries and opted for the umami sauce.
My date mentioned the burger didn't resemble what he remembered Umami burger to taste like. I think that's him politely saying it sucked. Mine was okay but nothing amazing. It's hard to go wrong with anything bacon. The fries just seemed like regular fries, didn't look extra thin or anything to be thin fries. The umami sauce was good.
Pricing seems to be pretty decent. I didn't list it in my review since most of their pricing references the double patty versions of the burger, and we opted for the single patty. Service could be more attentive as we had to flag them for water refills and the check. I don't think we'll be coming back.
