London’s Best Caribbean Food | Trinidadian Roti Restaurants in London | Eater London

"Though Guyana has a long history of British rule, its diaspora in Britain is much smaller than the Caribbean islands with which it has a deep cultural connection. With this, Umana Yana exists as one of the very few of Guyanese takeout spots in the entire country, let alone London. Here, Guyanese specialities such as slow-simmering sweet pepperpot stew, the classic okra-chicken combo, and curried meat and fish are all on display. The sweet pastry offering which is part and parcel of Indo-Caribbean trade don’t disappoint, with the likes of cassava pone — a cassava sweet potato cake — eddoe balls — formed from root vegetable dasheen — and the vividly coloured salara coconut swirl cake." - Riaz Phillips

Where to Eat in London’s Restaurants This Weekend | Eater London

"A Guyanese takeaway that reads as a cultural crossroads: shelves with homemade patties and bottles of mauby give way to roti meals presented like unwrapped gifts. Fillings include goat curry, chicken with aubergine, and tiny curried prawns, all scoopable with thin roti skins that are translucent with oil. The write-up highlights the cuisine’s layered origins (Indian roti, Dutch-imported rice, Chinese noodles), a lively local debate about Trini vs Guyanese roti freshness, and plans to add Guyanese chow mein-style dishes marrying thyme with scotch bonnet chilli." - Shekha Vyas

I honestly wish I had read the reviews properly before going, because it feels like nothing has changed and the same issues keep coming up. It’s so disappointing, especially when customers are clearly giving feedback and it doesn’t look like any improvements are being made. It really ruined my day because I genuinely wanted to support this local business after hearing about the challenges they’ve been having. For the price, the food was extremely underwhelming. I ordered curry goat, not curry potatoes, yet there were more potatoes than goat. At £13, this is ridiculous. The curry itself was tasteless, and the rice was dry with a small sprinkle of peas. For something so expensive, the quality just wasn’t there at all. What makes it worse is that I went out of my way to support them, but it really feels like they are not interested in improving the customer experience. When people take the time to leave reviews, the least that should happen is some effort to take it on board. Clearly no lessons have been learned here, and that’s such a shame. FYI: Being Guyanese, and with so few Guyanese restaurants around, this was extra disappointing. There was no effort in the food at all. I honestly tried to eat it, but it was so awful that I had to throw it out.

The food was okay. We went for the boneless chicken roti. I would have loved some kind of coleslaw or something to go with the the wrap. Even if they put some grated carrots and cabbage in to give it a lift. I would definitely go again to support and maybe try the curry goat. Also the food is halal which is great.

Glad I finally made the trip to Umana Yana. Debbie was extremely welcoming and nice enough to go through the various options on the menu with us. The boneless chicken stew was tender, well seasoned and very affordable for a full plate. I'm already looking forward to trying the rest of the menu. Thank you for a great introduction to Guyanese cuisine and your hospitality!

Google
This is a nice and cosy place. However, I think a takeaway would be more appropriate to eat at home comfortably than to eat in. The food is delicious and very tasty 😋! Nevertheless, there is too much traffic with people passing by, and the cars being too close to enjoy the food fully. The diversity of the food and drink is very nicely laid out with so many choices on display. However, before ordering, make sure that they have the main dish available. The staff was very friendly and nice.

Google
I can only really rate this on the food and the service as I’ve only bought food to take away. The roti is amazing, the flavours in their curries is very authentic Guyanese food. The only thing I would suggest, is if you want something specific to call up and check if they have it before you make the journey. I do believe they have GF options but this would need to be checked. The restaurant is on a road that has permits so it driving it’s a hop in and hop out situation!

Love the food here. The owner is a lovely woman and very passionate about the service she provides. Never had beef curry before but it didn't disappoint.

Very affordable and great portion sizes. Lovely vegan and gluten free options. I drove an hour to try her food out after seeing her videos on Tiktok. I was not disappointed at all. Very pleasant and lovely lady selling authentic Guyanese food, 10/10. Full of love and flavour. Everything tasted fresh and nice. I look forward to coming back here soon. My new fav roti spot! Hands down the best! You must try for yourself. Delicious!

I would say that was a daylight robbery. I was very very disappointed 😔☹️ quality of food was not up to the standards. Too expensive and tasteless. I'm so shocked 🤯😳 that they have a cheek to run a restaurant on Carribbean food name and saying it's a dying trade. Yet their service of food to their own people which was outrageous 😔

This delicious honest food, made with love. The rotis are amazing, particularly the vegetarian option.

Yelp
Umana Yana is the best local take-away on quality and price. Debbie is always so warm and friendly too. A five pound box of chana curry with rice and peas (the best, moistest I have ever tasted) can with a bit of salad make two very healthy meals. The chicken, goat and other varieties are great too. Debbie's fresh chilli sauce has an amazing depth of flavour and kicks like a South American mule. You must try this place!
