Much-Anticipated Sushi Restaurant Ume Opens in Houston’s Heights Next Month - Eater Houston

"Ume Sushi, the new sushi restaurant from beloved Museum District stalwart MF Sushi, is finally ready to open its doors after months of construction delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Located in the former Barnaby’s location in the Heights at 2802 White Oak Drive, Suite 500, the restaurant was proudly designed by chef and owner Chris Kinjo. The space was built out by Construction Concepts, the same firm behind Houston restaurant stunners like Steak 48, Doris Metropolitan, and Hando — while chef and restaurateur Chris Kinjo and his team did most of of the space’s intricate woodwork themselves. Kinjo says that Construction Concepts would work in the day, while his team would come in at night. “I ordered the Hinoki wood from Japan, and cut, sanded and puttied all of the wood myself,” says Kinjo, who has used the fragrant, pale-colored wood in all of his Houston restaurants to date. “Hinoki wood is calming when you touch it,” says Kinjo. “I use it as my cutting board.” The approximately 3,000 square foot space is split into two main sections. The entrance and anterior space feature a bar area with a large Hinoki slab communal table and high top seating. The main dining room, which overlooks the open kitchen and sushi bar, features booth and table seating, and is lit by a canopy of custom plum blossom chandeliers in various stages of bloom. Once COVID-19 capacity restrictions are over, the restaurant will have 58 restaurant seats, 8 sushi seats, and 30 seats in the bar area. Although he hasn’t written the menu yet, Kinjo says that diners can expect a menu that’s very similar to what’s on offer at MF Sushi alongside some exciting new dishes that will only be served at Ume. Sample dishes might include ume-marinated duck grilled duck breast, poke-style bluefin tuna tartare, and chef-selected sashimi samplers. Kinjo will split his time between MF Sushi Museum District and Ume Sushi, while sushi chefs Hiro, Win and Khang — familiar faces from MF Sushi — be full-time at Ume. Ume Sushi is set to open its doors on January 2, 2021. Advance reservations can be made via OpenTable." - Mai Pham

The Heights Will Soon Score a Seriously Exciting New Sushi Spot - Eater Houston

"Ume, a new sushi restaurant in the Heights, will be opened by chefs trained at MF Sushi. The venue will occupy a 3,000 square foot space designed by Chris Kinjo, featuring a reservation-only dining room for 60 guests, a 30-seat bar and dining area for walk-ins, and an eight-seat sushi bar. Went here last night for the first time. We were just walking down the Hike & Bike trail and figured we wanted sushi. So glad we stopped in. Tina was our server and she was a delight. The food was incredibly good. They have several cuts of fish which I haven’t seen hardly anywhere around here. I have to say more than the food was the teamwork that impressed us. Everyone worked so well together. It was like precision clock work. Would love to go back. Give this place a try!

This is our new favorite sushi restaurant since we moved from Dallas 6 months ago and it is truly NEXT LEVEL! Love that the owner is onsite daily, the waitstaff is amazing and we love the ambiance of this restaurant. We did sit at the sushi bar on one of our visits and really enjoyed watching the chefs work. The sushi is innovative, so fresh and the desserts are amazing! It is a bit pricey but well worth the quality and presentation of the food. Our vegetarian daughter was even able to find yummy food to eat here. If we are not there weekly, we are there every other week. The happy hour is also really good! Thank you UME! We support you and we hope others will visit, enjoy and support you as well!

Ume Sushi has a beautiful space with intricate woodwork and a cozy atmosphere, but our experience had some highs and lows. We went for Friday date night and found street parking nearby, though valet is available. The restaurant was busy at first but emptied out halfway through our meal. We were seated right away without a reservation, which was nice. Service was friendly, but it was slow. Our server oddly blamed the wait on the Rodeo--even though the restaurant was half-empty at that point. The table was small, making it hard to fit everything. At one point, the server put my menu on the floor leaning against my chair, which was strange. For drinks, I had the Tequila Old Fashioned ($14)--boozy, but I like tequila, so it worked. We tried a variety of dishes: +Chutoro Hasu ($19) - Medium fatty tuna with fried lotus chip and yuzu kosho aioli. +Salmon/Tuna Avocado Ball ($9) - With truffle mousse and gold flake. +Hamachi Serrano Roll ($17) - Spicy yellowtail, cucumber, cilantro, topped with hamachi, masago, and serrano. +MF Box Roll ($23) - Lobster tempura with Japanese mayo, scallions, and eel sauce. +Grilled Wagyu Shortrib Stuffed Shishito ($20) +Kinoko Skewer ($4) - With scallion butter. +Negitoro Nigiri ($8 each) - Fatty tuna, soy, scallions, wrapped in seaweed. +Sake Nigiri ($6 each) - Fresh salmon with nikiri, truffle aioli, pepper, and micro celery. The food was good, but not outstanding. I was hoping for something more memorable, but we actually left a little hungry and had to grab dessert elsewhere. Ume Sushi is solid, and I'd like to try more menu items. With so many great Japanese spots in Houston, I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to return.

Google
Food was alright - nothing was outstanding. Nigiri are tiny (they use less rice than average) but tasted good. Edamame is served in the most boring way - bowl of bland boiled edamame. Rolls were alright as well. The open kitchen concept is refreshing, but i didn’t appreciate the kitchen staff staring at me half of the time because it the restaurant was empty (sunday evening) and they had nothing to do. The preparation also took a bit too long.

Google
Cozy atmosphere! Extremely friendly staff! The waitress was phenomenal. The foods were outstanding! I tried out pretty much everything on nigri special menu. I had the ume drink, jap old fashion and hello sun. The Wagyu tartare aburi is a must! Don’t forget to ask for the real wasabi!

Google
A good selection of items. Great lunch sets with solid value! The Ume Mimosa was something new and exciting

Google
The short summary is great food and absolutely horrible service. I was so disappointed as the MF sushi places usually don't disappoint. We were able to get seated right away for our reservation and most tables were full. We ordered edamame and crudo with our martinis after sitting down. The martinis shockingly took 50mins to be delivered after asking 2x. They apologized and said they were short staffed but come on. They did comp the drinks but I would've kindly paid for more but figured they would never arrive. About 10 mins after arriving we ordered some sashimi and 2 rolls from the sushi chef since we were seated at the sushi bar. They handed us the sashimi a few mins later and yet we had not seen our appetizers yet. They eventually came out 15 mins later after 25 mins of waiting for edamame which seems silly. We were out of water most of the meal and had to ask for fill ups. One time not finding anyone I asked the hostess who said sure I'll take care of it and it took 10 mins for someone to bring it so not sure why she couldn't have helped out if they were truly short staffed. The drinks were good when they finally arrived and all the sushi was amazing as always. Its really disappointing that the service was so bad but appears I need to stick to their sister place, MF Lobster instead as the service there was A+.

Google
Absolutely delicious! I sat at the bar and watched the amazing chefs prepare everything right in front of me. Beautiful, relaxing atmosphere. Don't be so quick to run to HEB and Kroger for sushi. Every person to pass me asked if everything was ok. They asked how was the food and is there anything else I needed. It was my first time so I was unsure of what to order. Every suggestion was amazing.

Yelp
I had the pleasure of dining at Ume Sushi recently, and I have to give a special shoutout to our server, Han. From the moment we sat down, she made us feel so welcomed and taken care of. Her attentiveness and knowledge of the menu were truly impressive--she knew every dish inside and out and made fantastic recommendations. She not only delivered our food with a warm smile, but she also took the time to explain the ingredients and the chef's recommendations, which made the entire dining experience feel extra special. Her timing was perfect; never once did we have to wait long for anything, yet she was never hovering. Han's professionalism and friendly demeanor made her stand out from the moment we walked in. Beyond just being a great server, she made the evening feel personal and memorable. It's rare to encounter someone who genuinely seems to enjoy their job and takes pride in making sure guests have the best experience possible. If you're lucky enough to have Han as your server at Ume, you're in for an incredible experience! Highly recommend Ume for their delicious sushi and, of course, for Han's exceptional service. She's truly a gem! Also great hair she ate down she needa stop eatingg

Yelp
We stopped in for a quick drink and dessert! We were greeted by a friendly host but opted to go sit at the bar! The bartender made an amazing espresso martini and we also ordered the Biscoff cheesecake! Both were heavenly!!! The decor is very upscale and elegant! Low lighting! Very nice chill music! Perfect for dates and business dinners with out-of-towners! I'll be back to try their food!

Yelp
We were the first guests on a Saturday, probably earlier than most people eat dinner. We thought the food and service were great. I was also pleasantly surprised by the prices compared to other similar restaurants. Our waitress was Hannah and she was attentive and on top of everything. She made great recommendations. We will definitely be back. There was still parking available on site when we arrived but by the time we left it was valet only, or finding parking nearby. We had sashimi, nigiri, traditional and sushi rollls. The happy hour menu had Serrano habachi which was great. Happy hour also had some good drink and food specials.

Yelp
Great sushi and service! Got the miso soup and sashimi as starters and a handful of rolls to share! Rolls are on the slightly smaller side but they are fresh you can watch them making it (I believe if you have a party of 2 you can sit at the bar in front of the chefs) Service was very attentive especially when they found out it was our first time

Yelp
Ume Ume Ume, come here if you want the best sushi in HTX, they've got great service, drinks on ten and a nice date spot vibe with an authentic Japanese feeling ambiance. My personal favorites that i never see anywhere else are the tempura seabass and baked lobster & muscles (ask for nathan) & you've got to get at least two Umes if you wanna get a little wavy for the night
google avatar

Yelp
The restaurant is smaller, but cute and swanky. The food was delicious!!!!!!!!! Our server did a great job recommending items based on our feedback. Everything was fairly priced. Also if you like sake, but don't know which to order they have a flight. I literally loved everything you see in my photos. No bad critiques.

Yelp
We ate at Ume recently along with another couple for dinner. I had been excited to finally check out the new (to me) MF Sushi concept in town. The restaurant is a beautiful representation of Japanese minimalism. The space is not cluttered, and instead of filling the walls with distractions, they focused on intricate details and sourcing top level materials such as the Hinoki wood flown in from Japan. Even though the space is fairly spartan, it feels warm and inviting, perfect for an intimate date night or dinner out with close friends. Seating options include booth tables, floor tables, and a long high top sushi bar sitting right in front of the action. It's not a huge space, so definitely make reservations ahead of time. Our 4 top were no strangers to sushi, and ordered a heavy portion of the menu ranging from appetizers, cooked offerings, dozens of nigiri, chef samplers, soups, sashimi, and rolls. I'm a stickler for rice consistency and temp, and Ume for the most part hit the mark. The nigiri was well formed and there were so many fantastic bites of food just melting away in your mouth. Id' like to come back and sit at the sushi bar to really focus on the prep, presentation, and enjoyment of each nigiri bite. Service unfortunately was another story. Perhaps it was just an off night, but they couldn't quite get things straight with us. We had food orders forgotten, then delivered late with frantic apologies once realized. I had two separate drink orders that I had to make a point to ask about before they were fulfilled. When a round of food came out that included specific nigiri one couple ordered while the other couple ordered another type of nigiri, they mixed and switched the plates putting some of our food in front of them and vice versa. We realized some things were missing and may be in front of the wrong people, we asked the waitress for help on what nigiri was what, and she said it was correct and walked off... It was just a constant neck crane, looking for a waitress, what happened to that beer I ordered, wait didn't we order miso soup, I thought you had X and we ordered Y, my water glass is bone dry and that beer still isn't here, type problems. It detracted so much from the excellent food, especially considering we paid about $300 per couple for dinner. I'm settling on 4 stars because the food really was excellent and every place has a bad night. Other reviews don't list repeated service issues, so let's cross our fingers and hope for a better return visit. If you're looking for top level sushi in an intimate venue, this is a great option.

Yelp
I've been here several times and it always impresses me! Service is great & quality fish. Ambiance is clean. Would recommend the happy hour! They have really good deals.

Yelp
Very cozy restaurant as I walked in and was greeted by two lovely hostesses. I just wanted a quick dinner full of nigiris. My server Jon was fantastic! I got their signature Shima Aji, Sake, Akamutsu, spicy chopped Hotate, Negitoro, Chutoro, Unagi & Masago. My favorite piece was their signature Shima Aji which is their must get!! A close second is their Akamutsu, the texture was perfect. My least favorite was their unagi. Just a personal preference of mines liking my unagi prepped aburi-style. I wish there were vegetarian nigiris to choose from. Their ume drink that Jon had recommended me was amazing. The overall I'd prefer Ume over their sister restaurant MF Sushi.

Yelp
Ohhhh mannn, this fooood was incredible! Everything was so fresh and delicious as well as a unique creative menu, we will most definitely be back! Very great for a date night because the vibe is chill and quiet but the service was fantastic!! Nathan was our server and he was just awesome, super friendly, well informed and all together a cool guy, we will be back again for sure!!
google avatar

Gregston C.

Yelp
Upscale cozy sushi. Well executed traditional and modern rolls as well as nigiri / sashimi as expected. Waitstaff was very attentive. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. Small dining are with a clam vibe. Most tables have a partial view of the sushi bar where you can kinda watch them prepare the nigiri and rolls. The waiting area / bar is a bit more lively but that might be because we came on a busy night. Difficult to park. There's a free surface lot but it's constantly full. Ume has their own valet.
google avatar

Ashley H.

Yelp
Phillip H. Was the best, most graceful waiter I've ever had! We LOVED him so much! The food was good and the vibes were super classy. We were underdressed lol but loved the environment. Portion sizes are quite small, so make sure you're prepared to order several dishes to reach satisfaction. But the food quality is excellent so definitely worth it.
google avatar

Matthew T.

Yelp
Been here twice, love the ambience, the food is has great quality and taste especially for its price which I was really shocked about. Go to the sushi bar if you can, and just have an ice chat with the chefs. Grab a cocktail while you're at it, espresso martinis are there just in time for this kind of weather. Recommended nigiris, hotate, anything mackerel like aji, shina aji, or saba, and finally salmon.

Karen S.

Yelp
Consistentanly great sushi spot in the Heights. Great staff, great ambiance, would go back many times
google avatar

Bryan V.

Yelp
Great sushi, great service, great drinks! The fish here is very fresh and dressed wonderfully. My favorites were the spicy chopped scallops, truffle aioli salmon, and toro osaka box. Shiso mojito was super refreshing and the Shiso was very fragrant... Paired wonderfully with my meal. Clean and modern interior.
google avatar

Joshua S.

Yelp
The food was amazing and I had a great experience from beginning to end! Thank you Ume for your great staff!

Yelp
Came for dinner on Sunday and they happened to be having happy hour, which was a nice surprise. Tried a few items from the happy hour menu, such as the chicken skewers, chef choice nigiri and shishito peppers. All great choices! I also tried the kamikaze roll and a roll that's similar to Korean kimbap that had crab and veggies (forget the name) , very good and fresh. The service was fantastic, our server was very attentive and friendly.
google avatar

Yelp
My wife and I really enjoyed Ume sushi. The sushi, Hamachi, and cocktails were all very delicious. I ordered a cocktail that had a mix of orange, Japanese Roku gin, and I believe egg white. It was so good. I have been thinking about it ever since I left. I don't see it on the menu so I can't add the name for you but for sure, it was absolutely amazing. We cannot wait to return. The ambience was very nice. A great place for a date night or just to grab drinks.

Mary M.

Yelp
The food here is amazing. It's our second time and both times I was so impressed by the quality and presentation of food. Unfortunately the service on our second visit was really bad. We arrived with a reservation at 7pm and ordered cocktails. The cocktails arrived at 8:40pm after our food. The other food items we ordered arrived at weird intervals and took a long time. We had to ask for refills on water and ginger. Our server was really sweet and apologized over and over but it was frustrating especially for the high price. There was also a couple there with their baby who was screaming the entire time and there's nothing to be done by the restaurant I know but it was really unpleasant.
google avatar

David N.

Yelp
Recently my wife and I had a double date night with one of my best friends and his wife. We actually haven't had one in quite a bit since having the twins and my wife was craving sushi. Even when we manage to get out for a meal on our own we are so lost with the whole food scene we always end up at Uchi. We were glad we let the other couple pick the location as we were able to experience our best sushi dining experience at Ume! I let the other couple order from start to finish so I'm not sure exactly what I ate but everything was superb. The sashimi was so fresh every bite melted in my mouth. The service was on point from start to finish. They were able to gauge our ordering and we never were left with an empty table or too many dishes at one time. We definitely have our new go to sushi place the next time we can squeeze away from the twins!!
google avatar

Maddy A.

Yelp
This was such a great meal. I always love the vibes of sitting at the sushi bar to watch the chefs do their thing! Drinks were incredible, the vibes in the restaurant are amazing! It's a great spot for a dark & romantic night! The chefs choice nigiri were delicious. The edamame and soy sauce were 10/10. Not sure what soy sauce they use, but it is some of the best I've ever tasted. I can't remember what special roll we got, but it was so flavorful with a good kick of spice. The handrolls were also great. Service was incredible and very knowledgeable.
google avatar

Anissa A.

Yelp
The miso soup came out after our sushi but they apologized several times. All of our sushi was good and I loved how many maki options they offered. Kinda funny - my date was shook at how hot the towels were. And they were very very hot.
google avatar

Pamela Z.

Yelp
Went here with a group of girl friends and while there wasn't anything particularly standout about it, the food was solidly good and the servers were very friendly and good at what they do. The restaurant does offer a gluten free menu, which I appreciate, and the servers truly take gluten free requests seriously. I had a few cocktails all of which were very good. This is a solid sushi restaurant and we will definitely be back in the future.

Yelp
Very loud. Food is good. Service slow. Nice ambiance. Date place or special occasions.

Yelp
My top go-to sushi in town! For its price, quality, choices, ambiance, service mingled together. Parking : valet is available. Cashapps OK if you don't have cash. Or park on the street nearby, all good. Table availability : reservations are very highly recommended if you prefer a table inside. I have walked in and mostly sat at the bar, which we don't mind at all. Food: this is a sushi place only! No rice or noodle dishes. And I believe this specialty makes their taste even more focused and delicious! This place offer a wide range of appetizers, nigiris, traditional rolls and specialty ones. Whether you're a traditional eater or want to venture out a little, you'll find your place. None has been a miss. Taste is fresh, presentation is appetizing, the whole combo makes an overall great experience really! Drinks: cocktail, Japanese beers, or sake. No miss here either! Ambiance: minimalistic and dimmed. Very appropriate for a ln intimate date or small group dinner. Service : great, cordial, knowledgeable, polite and prompt. No issues at all. The chefs are still wearing a mask, which bring this cleanliness touch to the kitchen! Bathroom: only 1 per gender. If I had to pick something to improve, this would probably the one point. Still clean and using hand towels to dry. So nice Overall, totally recommend, would come back. It's my sushi place reference in town! 100% positive experience!!!

Austin ..

Yelp
My party and I came in to sit in the bar for a few quick sushi bites. The environment was great, and we we felt right at home, especially with Edison taking care of us. He was approachable, attentive, and loads of fun. We'll surely be back and will be sure to ask for Edison.

Yelp
Just here to echo everyone else's same words about how fantastic Ume is. Visiting my sister in Houston and she took me to her favorite sushi spot, a perfect girls night! The vibes here are great, great music and just overall feel. We sat at the sushi bar and had a great experience. We let our waiter decide what we should have as far as sashimi and nigiri went - all amazing, so fresh and I love that they dress everything so lightly to really let the fish shine. We also had two rolls, one with Serrano and the other was the kamikaze- so good! Our cocktails were also so good and unique.
google avatar

Tarren V.

Yelp
Food and experience were amazing. Highly recommend sitting at the sushi bar! Every dish was delicious and excellent service.
google avatar

Stacy J.

Yelp
We arrived on time for our reservation. Reservation was made for the bar which was literally a tall table that seats 8 in the middle of the front of the restaurant. Everyone that walked into the restaurant thought it was a free for all table and used it to wait for their table or to place their drink while standing. Needless to say there was no privacy and constant interruptions. When the hostess greeted us and stated we reserved the bar she simply pointed to the tall table, did not seat us or anything. After we (2 of us) sat down, the hostess brought over one menu for the 2 of us. The print on the menu is so small that if you had to share a menu it would be impossible to read. We ordered two old fashions and they came out pretty quickly and it was a decent cocktail. The food was good, but nothing out of the ordinary and nothing more than you can get at other local mid price range sushi places. Valet on site was nice considering the parking situation in the area is less than ideal.
google avatar

Dan A.

Yelp
I highly recommend Ume Sushi in the Houston Heights area...and for good reason. The restaurant is extremely well run and the sushi is beyond wonderful. Five stars for the presentation, quality and taste alone. It's nearly impossible to spot any weaknesses and the service is great. Notably, the drink list is equally as impressive as the food items. Five stars for this incredible spot.
google avatar

Diem P.

Yelp
Best sushi I've had in a long time!! We order many different "special" nigiri...meaning all each individually dressed in it's own sauce...very lightly sauced but complimented each nigiri perfectly! Our server knew the menu very well and described each dish so well. We can tell that he had a great appreciation for food. Ambiance was casual but trendy. Can't wait to return!
google avatar

Simi J.

Yelp
Delicious sushi spot! My husband and I chose this place for a random date night and we were so pleasantly surprised. We sat in front of the chefs and were able to watch them with their masterpieces. We loved ever piece of nigiri, every roll, every cocktail... and the wagyu absolutely melted in my mouth!
google avatar

Jordan Z.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I had a Thursday evening date night here recently and I was really happy our experience. Ume had a valet available for $7, which we utilized. When we arrived they had warm towels at our table. Our server was attentive and did a good job accommodating our waves of orders. A few highlights- cucumber martini, king salmon, avocado salmon ball (although this is just a bite, not a large portion), Weismann roll, scallop sashimi. A miss- Otoro was a little watery. The only thing I didn't feel like was top quality. We also tried the pistachio & mango mochi, pretty yummy. Overall, I thought the plates were unique and the fish quality was overall good. I would definitely come back.
google avatar

Emma B.

Yelp
Service was great. Sushi was average. Because Houston has a million great sushi options, I would not rank Ume in my top 10. The sushi was good, but not exceptional, and the prices were significantly higher than what you'd pay at some other sushi restaurants in town. The ambiance was nice and it is a good spot for a date night.
google avatar

Hieu P.

Yelp
Let me start off by saying this is the best sushi experience I ever had. From the freshness and quality of the fish to the amazing service. The food is amazing. The quality of the fish is top tier. Very fresh and flavorful! I enjoyed sitting at the sushi bar. It really was a fun and cool experience seeing the sushi chefs cut the fish very precisely and handling it very carefully. You can really appreciate the art craft that goes behind your food. The service and ambiance was wonderful. Waiter was very on top of things. Always made sure my drinks were filled. Always made sure my food was tasting right. Very fast and also very considerate! The chefs were also very friendly. Huge shout out to Chef Nguyen. He gave us an amazing experience that I'll never forget. His knowledge and skill with the fish was very impressive to see!

Yelp
My wife and I went to Ume Sushi for valentines. We loved all the orders and they were very fresh and delicious. I particularly loved their kanpachi and my wife loved the salmon and otoro. For appetizers, we ordered and tried the bluefin tuna handroll for the first time and it was very delicious. Seaweed was not soggy at all and was very crisp and tuna was very fresh. Lychee martini is also must if you love drinking. You must give this a try. Interior is very modern, minimalistic and clean and I personally love this vibe. Food was great, but when you are making reservations be careful because if you are making reservation online it has two options "bar" or "table". We thought that the bar area was the sushi bar, but it's actually the cocktail area. Also, for the nigiri sections, if you love eating the fish by itself be sure to order it under regular nigiri section not "signature" section because the signature nigiri has seasonings on top the fish. I personally love eating the fish by itself so we ordered the regular nigiri, plus it's cheaper! Overall we loved our time at ume and we strongly recommend it!

Yelp
Great date night spot with delicious sushi and some tasty cocktails. Service was excellent! Hubby and I made reservations for Valentine's day. They were extremely busy but we were seated immediately and never rushed during dinner. Highly recommend for a tasty night out!

Yelp
Props to this staff and management. I was here on 6/8/2023, they experienced horrible storms which led to a complete power outage. They still treated everyone in the restaurant like a 5 star client despite limited service options and what was a complete shut down of their automated systems. In a period of about 15 minutes, they switched from the computer generated system to post-it's and still continued service. Obviously, limited to raw, and other items possible, but I floored by what of an amazing job they did by the light of the emergency exit lights. The food was excellent, you will find high quality fish, and speciality items. But this is first and foremost a well run ship. I thank them for making my night out special despite the difficulties.

Yelp
We went to Ume last night with friends. We were blown away by the delicious, fresh, and creative sushi. It reminded me of the sushi we ate in Japan. This is not the place for anyone in a hurry. If you need something quick, go somewhere else. But it's perfect for relaxing with friends and eating amazing food. I had a lovely glass of Chardonnay and I forgot to write down the name... It was from Italy & the winery was San ????? Would love it if they would post their wine list on the website.

Yelp
I came here for a family dinner as I heard about it through word of mouth. I would have to say this is hands down the best sushi experience I have ever had! We ordered a wide range of dishes, but I would have to say the ones that stood out the most were the Kampachi, Serrano Hamachi, and Salmon Avocado Ball just to name a few. Their fish is so fresh and crisp, even my non-sushi eating family member enjoyed it. I am not usually one to expand far from salmon, but I would have to say that Ume prepares their fish so well, that it was so easy to eat the other types of fish. Every plate was plated so well, I didn't even want to touch it. Not only are their dishes amazing, but you must try their drinks. I personally went for the Ume and the Lychee Martini. The Ume was my favorite, as it was sweet and flavorful. Overall, I had such an amazing experience here and would definitely return when I am back in the area (the pictures explain it all). Bring friends, so you can try more dishes!

Yelp
Fish was high quality. Loved everything we picked and even tried barracuda. Didn't know I would like it!

Yelp
Very similar to MF sushi, I believe they're the same people. Excellent service and food. Parking is a pain because there's so many bars around and parking lot is limited. Our server was Le and he was great beginning to end. Everything was fresh and tasty. Honestly forgot what we ordered but here's some pictures!

Yelp
Great spot for special occasions. We went with another couple to celebrate my hubby's birthday and New Years. From our server, Andrew, to the atmosphere, food and drinks... all was AMAZING! I started off taking pics before digging in, but as the night progresses, I forgot or carried away with the deliciousness, so there are some missing pics. Keep in mind that I also had at least 4 Umes (whiskey based with a hint of sweetness and spicy-ness from the chimoy rimmed glass (my fave drink now)) so the pic quality also diminished. Lol I loved everything I ate, but the A5 wagyu, madai, truffle aioli samon (we opted for the special, king salmon), and kanpachi were my faves. For rolls, we had the Typhoon, Tony, and one other roll that I can't remember, and they were all yummy. Needless to say, we'll be back!

Yelp
I really enjoyed my first visit to Ume, and I'll definitely be back! For seating, there's options to sit at the bar, in a regular table or booth, or at the sushi chef's table where you can watch sushi being prepared. The staff was attentive and did a great job explaining the menu options we had questions on. I started off with a lychee martini, and it was a bit sweeter than I'm used to, although, I do have to comment that the drink menu is quite extensive, so you're sure to find something to your liking! We started with edamame and hamachi, which was incredible. We also tried a variety of nigiri, as well as specialty and traditional rolls. Overall, everything was of quality. For parking, valet was offered. There's also a small parking lot or street parking.

Yelp
Service was good, front was very nice and welcoming. The interior is very aesthetic. Drinks were pretty ok. However, the food wasn't great. It wasn't bad, but it also was not great. Everything was pretty tasteless.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious!! Every thing I've eaten here is so delicious and better than some way more expensive omakase places. The wagyu beef is my fav and the yellow tail hamachi. I only wish they had more substantial entrees.

Yelp
Top favorite sushi spot in the heights! It quite popping on Friday night so I would try to make a reservation if you're coming on a weekend. Parking is tricky in this area and it was $7 for valet. Vibe was upscale, great spot for date night but definitely more noisy towards the front half/bar area of restaurant. We got seats at the sushi bar where it was bit quieter. A small detail but i also appreciate hooks under the bar for guests to hang their purses and belongings. The sushi is not cheap and also took a long time, which seemed odd considering the impressive crew of chefs they had. Despite the long wait, the food was REALLY good. Do yourself a favor and order the Baked Lobster Tempura. Weisman was my next favorite. Other stand out items were Wagyu Tartare Aburi and Wasabi Duck Skewers. Out of the nigiri we liked the Signature Sake, which had a bit more flavor over the Kinmedai and Toro. I knocked off a star due to the wait and cost, but all in all this is a great new spot to check out!
