"I learned that Ume, which means “plum blossom” in Japanese, will occupy a 3,000-square-foot space at 2802 White Oak Drive in the former Barnaby’s Cafe that Chef Chris Kinjo designed himself as a more casual counterpart to the upscale MF Sushi. The restaurant will have a reservation-only dining room that seats 60, a bar and dining area with 30 seats reserved for walk-ins only, and an eight-seat sushi bar. Kinjo says the kitchen will serve MF-style cuisine but with no omakase; he plans to let MF-trained chefs run it while assisting them as needed and expects to work there once or twice a week. The project has been delayed one to two months by the coronavirus, but Ume is expected to arrive in the Heights sometime this summer." - Mai Pham
