Inside the Magical Early Morning Hours at Reading Terminal Market | Eater Philly

"I watch Elvera at Umi Seafood and Sushi spend two hours before the doors open chopping vegetables and prepping fish; she describes the pre-opening period as very quiet and exciting but says she prefers when visitors arrive because then she gets to interact with tourists and locals and learns to handle different kinds of people." - Dayna Evans

Caribbean and Japanese Eateries Are Setting Up Shop in Reading Terminal Market | Eater Philly

"Going into the former 12th Street Cantina space, Umi Seafood and Sushi Bar is a collaboration between chef Yong Kim of the Philly suburbs’ Bluefin restaurants and purveyor Suzi Kim (of John Yi Fish Market, Under the C Seafood, and Ardmore Seafood). It will offer a selection of prepared seafood items and more than 100 varieties of sushi, sashimi, and maki for eating in the market or takeout; the name 'Umi' means 'ocean' in Japanese and the partners emphasize a dedication to providing the freshest fish." - Rachel Vigoda

I just did a pick up order on my lunch, so I didn’t get the full experience, but the soup dumplings were amazing! Loved the sauce that came with it and their chili oil. 10/10 will be back again soon! Plus it came with a super cute reusable bag!

pretty large selection of refrigerated sushi but i got the fried flounder. the flounder was quite thin and the potatoes it came with were also kind of salty and the coleslaw was quite standard. the cocktail and tartar sauces it came with we're good though

I don’t care what anybody says. This is my favorite buffet to go to on the weekend.! And I’ve been to a lot of buffets😅 for me the prices worth it because I love sushi and very rarely do you get good quality sushi at a buffet but here you have so many selections it’s fresh delicious and it’s high-quality quality.! And I know it’s a sushi and seafood buffet but my partner doesn’t eat either one of those and he says it’s completely worth it as well! I can’t speak for the lunch menu but I know when we go on a weekend dinner we have never been disappointed. Also, the staff is very friendly and attentive. Everything is clean and I love the atmosphere. We definitely drive over an hour just to go here.

Tables dirty. Packaged ramen. The second I looked at it I thought, that’s not right. These guys are charging 9.99 for packaged ramen. I got the package to see if it contained trans fat since they denied any refund even before I ever touched it. Packaged ramen. I still can’t believe it. When I asked them the entire staff stared at the floor because even they knew it was wrong to do that.

Today I tried Umi Seafood and Sushi Bar for the first time. I ordered Cajun Catfish platter, with rice and zucchini. The roasted zucchini was okay, and the rice was mediocre, but the main item (fish) was horrible, both look and taste-wise. It felt like microwaved fish after 4/5 days of refrigeration. I ate zucchini pieces and a little rice, and trashed the rest. Very bad experience. No wonder there was no line or no other customer (at least when I visited). Other places were too crowded, and I like fish, so I wanted to give it a try. Never again!

Went here on a Friday at 6:30 PM with a party of eight. The first red flag was that the restaurant was empty. None of the food tastes like anything…bland and tasteless. Only thing I had that tasted good was a commercial ice cream sandwich. Save your time and your money.

Service was a bit meh, but the food is sooooo good!! I ordered quarter pound if the Cajun Shrimp and my God it was perfectly seasoned, slightly spicy and everything. I added it to a half cup of linguine and the flavor perfectly went everywhere. It was literally so good. I wish I could try everything and I wish the prices were a little lower. Other than that highly recommend. The seafood is as good as Whole Foods hot bar. IYKYK.

Made the mistake of getting ramen here. While I didn’t have the highest expectations for the ramen, I thought it would be okay at best. Broth has no flavor, and noodles taste like they are out of a package. Don’t waste your time or money for this.
