Yelp
Umi was a strong favorite for quite awhile because of the fish to rice ratio across the board and the smaller size of their rolls, but after the last two visits, there are some things that have caused me to change my opinion at this time.
First, the ratio seemed to have shifted on their nigiri. While the pieces are still smaller with less rice, the fish is being sliced much thinner than before. Presentation is still beautiful. Preparation is still fast. Rolls are still stuffed. Nigiri is my favorite though, so this change is disappointing.
Second, service has slipped. Table checks are few and far between, meaning if you need something, you'll have to catch someone's attention to ask, and then you'll have to get one of the staff members who can help, because not all of them have the same understanding of the operations or may not understand the questions asked apparently. Plates pile high making it a bit uncomfortable at times too.
Third, food quality has also seemingly changed IMHO. Rice was tasteless. Fish was decent, but again sliced thin, so offered little flavor. Rolls arrived missing key ingredients, so their flavor was not as expected based on descriptions.
I like that this place thrives and I'll still be a customer, but not as loyally and I am going to take a pause at this time.
I hope this type of feedback is helpful to the ownership because I want to see them back on top.
