I'd been waiting to check out Unbranded Brewery for about as long as it takes to travel between exits on the Palmetto. Between "that which shall not be named " and city bureaucracy, it took more than a minute. However, this Saturday I had a chance to head up there with friends. Bro, let me tell you it was really worth the wait!
Unbelievably so, I actually got in much earlier and pre-gamed with their Hialeah Light, a 4.5% ABV light citrusy brew while I watched some anime on their flat panel TV and munched on tostones chips and their brown-sugar seasoned baked beans. (This is the side I also enjoyed with my main course also, the subject of a few inside jokes as well. Here's hoping they can expand their side dish selection a bit - fries, mac & cheese heck even corn on the cob.)
After everyone arrived, I upped my consumption to their guava ale. With its citrus & guava notes, it paired perfectly with the pulled pork & brisket platter I enjoyed (after all some places do have a guava bbq sauce.) It wasn't overwhelmingly sweet and the perfect amount of alcohol for a chill afternoon of day drinking. Bevvywise, I also enjoyed their golly jolly cherry. This one was a little more lambic & sweeter, almost like a wine. It's perfect for dessert.
Speaking of food, Unbranded just opened their in-house BBQ restaurant (instead of food trucks and popups) on Saturday. They have three meat dishes as platters, sandwiches and tacos. I enjoyed the aforementioned two meat platter. Both the pork and brisket had good smokey flavor, and were spiced up with pickled onions and a salsa-like bbq sauce. While yummy, everyone knows from prior reviews that I prefer sweet bbq sauce. I also hope eventually they add bbq chicken.
The ambiance is pretty chill, with even a couple of bookshelf. Service is pleasantly casual, without being rushed, making it perfect for day drinking. At least during the day, we saw some people with little ones. The terrace is pet friendly as well. The space itself has a bunch of cool murals, as part of the Leah Arts District.
Cheers to many more visits..dale!
