Uncle Bernie's Delicatessen

Honestly it's just an okay kinda place. Nothing stand out. Service is good. Food is edible but leaves you wanting more or thinking about the other deli that's 20min away. I'd only go back if I'm pressed for time.

Being from Brooklyn, I have been looking for good kosher-style deli in my area. Well.... I think I found it. They have great corned beef and pastrami sandwiches and Grandma-quality soup with fresh ingredients. Their baked goods (esp. the eclairs) are amazing! The food is very good with huge portions! The service is very good and attentive. The interior is dated (still in the 1960s-70s era), but who cares as long as the food is good....which it is!

When's the last time you were EXCITED for a sandwich? This place will spark that feeling in you! I have been wanting to come here for years and I'm so glad I finally made the trip. Michaelangelo was a great host with an awesome, friendly attitude, and cracked some jokes while seating me at a booth. Leo was my server and he was super helpful with my menu selection (what do you get when you want to try everything?!). I had a split sandwich: half tongue and half corned beef, with fries and pickles. Truth be told I'm not a huge fan of sour pickles but I still ate em all! The sandwiches were excellent and the rye bread was just SO good. I got a quart of chicken soup to go along with a couple black & white cookies. Visiting Uncle Bernie's really made my day and I can't wait to come back.

A few months ago Uncle Bernie’s didn’t have good reviews, I decided not to visit then but I was in the area and double checked the reviews, I am glad I gave them a try! First off, sooo clever of them to use old bagels for bagel chips and butter. Of course, you need the pickles….. The matzo ball soup was very flavorful and delish. The corned beef sando and fries were delightful don’t forget to add the coleslaw to the sando!

Giant portions, tasty food, classic diner menu. This is really nice restaurant and a go to spot if you’re feeling like diner food. The soup and sandwich combo is perfect. Pastrami is delicious. Highly recommend this spot, just make sure you bring a big appetite!

Food was pretty good . Service was amazing our server name was Jacob he was very kind and attentive really enjoyed his service . We had variety of dishes but really enjoyed the fish tacos and the pasta with blackened chicken also cheese grits were pretty good . We would come back for sure

These guys are great! Made me fell welcome at 7 when they close at 8. Old school hospitality where they give you all the steps of service. I was a solo patron treated to a cozy booth. Perfect 10/10 in my book.

My first time and everything was good I'm not going to say excellent but it was pretty decent I ordered the tuna sandwich that I have to return because the tuna was very dry but the manager was very nice and he got me something else he recommended the roast beef sandwich and that was very delicious! I will definitely go back

The food here is delicious The open space and cozy booths create a comfortable and inviting atmosphere which is perfect for a relaxed meal. The decor is charming and reminiscent of a New York Jewish deli. The server at my table was incredibly sweet and attentive. The lima bean soup, the soup of the day, was astonishingly delicious. I couldn't believe how good it was. I also ordered the pastrami sandwich on rye bread, which came with a side of coleslaw and I ordered additional fries. The sandwich was perfectly crafted with tender pastrami and fresh rye bread. The coleslaw and fries were the ideal complements. Everything was superb. Thanks Uncle Bernie

Had a very good dinner here with friends, was concerned by reports this place had gone downhill, but the food and service were very good. Our Ceasar salad, Matzo Ball soup, Pastrami on rye and french fries were all fresh and delicious. Wished we were given a complimentary plate of pickles but not to be. Grabbed some Black and White cookies for the ride home, soooo good! (maybe they get them from nearby Bea's Bakery?) Plenty of parking, casual diner atmosphere.

My family and I went to Uncle Bernie's Deli for an early dinner the other night. We all loved the big spacious dining room with high ceilings and a skylight. It made the room light and bright and airy which is always enjoyable. I had the half sandwich and soup combination. I chose matzo ball soup (there's a small up charge for matzo ball soup) and a 1/2 pastrami sandwich. It was served with my choice of side. I chose the French fries. The matzo ball soup was delicious and was so filling that I could only take a few bites of my pastrami sandwich (which was also delicious) before I asked for a to go container. My daughter ordered the Philly cheese steak sandwich which, unfortunately, she didn't know came with mushrooms. The menu doesn't describe anything, it just lists everything, and my daughter is used places where you have to request mushrooms so it didn't occur to her that they would come on the sandwich. Unfortunately she doesn't like mushrooms, so we got the waitresses attention and told her that we didn't know it came with mushrooms and that my daughter doesn't eat mushrooms. The waitress very quickly offered to have the sandwich remade. It was so nice that she didn't have an attitude about it at all. Also ordered by members of my family were the fish plate (enough for my mom and stepdad to share) and a cheeseburger with a fried egg on top. Everyone said their food was delicious. The service was great throughout our meal. As we were finishing our meals the restaurant suddenly became busy with other patrons so it took a little while to get the check, but we were happy to sit and chat. We will definitely go back to this establishment.

This used to be Fromin's from the 60'. It's a cool, old space with brick and wood paneling and nice booths. Uncle Bernie's does a pretty nice job. I always get a Turkey Reuben and it's solid here. Nice and griddled like it should be. The turkey itself is not as good as Brent's but it's hard to beat Brent's. They are really nice here and prices are reasonable... not outrageous as some deli's can be. I always look forward to going on Saturdays. Great job Uncle Bernie's!

Today, your favorite Yelp Elite Correspondent found himself virtually marooned out in Van Nuys, patiently awaiting his (grown) daughter's outpatient surgical procedure. By the time she was released, it was 1:05pm and we were hungrier than a pair of shipwrecked mariners, especially since I had, in a show of fatherly support, matched her "nothing by mouth" ban since midnight. Surrounded by several notable practitioners of the (Jewish Deli) sandwich arts, I summoned my Yelp directory and settled upon Uncle Bernie's in Encino. I placed my online order via Yelp's Grub Hub partnership and twenty minutes and five miles later...we pulled up to a vaguely familiar strip mall catacorner from the regal Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. My familiarity melted the years and all of a sudden I was transported twenty yrs ago when Uncle Bernie's usta be called Fromin's Deli, an authentic Jewish Deli I usta frequent with my Jewish step-grandparents, Arnold & Beverly! My daughter ordered a turkey on wheat with Cole Slaw as her side. She was nearly delirious with hunger and belted her meal down in record time while I was driving back home on the 101 West. I ordered their famous Black Pastrami on a French roll with onion rings. The onion rings were exceptional- Crunchy batter around thick onion slices. The Pastrami was good, quite satisfying in that way that only well-made Deli sandos can be. But was it a competitor to the gold medalists of the 'Strami, places like Langers, Brent's or Katz in NYC? Uncle Bernie's is a bronze medalist any day of the week, twice on Sunday. But don't kid yourself, it's not up to the gold medal standard of the earlier-cited delis. Our order cost $44.61 for two sandwiches with two sides. Nothing to do cartwheels over.

Had a great breakfast with a freind. Spacious booths, not too noisy, great staff, good vibe, and the food was delicious. I had lox, eggs, and onions pancake style. Potato's could have been hotter, but the onion bagel was yummy. Waitress and busboy were attentive to all our needs. I never knew this place existed. I will be back.

Formally Fromin's, Uncle Bernie's Deli has been in charge since 2011. The menu says' 1929, but that's the birth year of the real Uncle Bernie, (not the year they opened shop). It's all fine with me, as long as the food and service are good - and on my first visit, they were! I got the #2 Club - Corned Beef, Pastrami with Muenster Cheese instead of Swiss. A massive triple decker sandwich that was too big to finish. I probably should not have filled up on the Navy Bean soup and the side of pickles. The meal was very good and so was the service. A special mention to the Female buser, who was very friendly and helpful. She should be a server. Good stuff at Uncle Bernie's Deli.

I wanted a sandwich and a sandwich I got! My brother in law took us here while we were visiting, and we were not disappointed the pastrami sandwich was out of this world delicious. The potato salad was a great accompaniment. Plenty of food for two people. Service was a tad slow but still acceptable for a family-run business. The ambiance was funky and had a mid century sushi restaurant vibe. We'd come back in a heartbeat!

Terrible customer service. I wanted to order a few platters. I was transferred 3 times to the deli manager. I kept being told to call back they were too busy to help me. On one occasion they answered the phone "what do you want". I hung up the phone thinking I had the wrong number because I couldn't believe a business would be that rude. I finally left my phone number and never received a call. I ended up getting platters elsewhere. They lost a $500 dollar sale and nice tip. Hire competent staff.

Best place in the world. There's nowhere else I'd rather be on a Monday morning than sitting in a booth by the window at Bernie's, with a yummy cappuccino and Janet as my server. Best food, best old-time feel, and a place to go where the staff knows you and makes you feel like home.

Incompetence raised to the ultimate power. Wouldn't let me order a delivery on its website because it had ONE email address that kept popping up, so the order could never be completed. Goodbye, Uncle Bernie.

I ordered food from here and I was not pleased with what I received. My pastrami came on white bread when I asked for sourdough. My partners sandwich was dry and tasteless and the egg looked like it was overfried. The cabbage used for the coleslaw tasted old and bitter that I had to throw away the whole container. This was a complete waste of $45, like literally the food is really not worth the price I paid. Very disappointed.

Totally solid. It's no Langer's but the hours are better! It's been a family favorite for years.

Food is meh. Except for 2 of the waitstaff, (I don't remember their names), most of the waitstaff and the busboys are very inattentive and ignore the customers. No one came by to ask how we were doing. No one came by to ask if we wanted refills on our drinks. They were too busy chatting among themselves. It wasn't busy. The host who seated us was rude and dismissive when we complained about the service when we had to pay at the counter. I will never go back there. Brent's Deli is far superior in food and service. I would give this place no stars if the review would allow it.

This is a dependable, delightful and delicious classic deli that does not break the bank. The staff is warm, efficient and makes you feel like family. There are TVs up above on several walls to watch the latest games. Whether you are here for lox and bagels, a giant salad or a great corned beef sandwich, Uncle Bernie's delivers! Great coffee for breakfast and unusually good scrambled eggs ... The menu, like a good deli, is vast! Very disappointed. I've eaten here a few times more and liked it, but today was a very poor experience. To start with, after waiting 5-10 minutes for a table and then getting cut in line by someone that just walked in, the host argued with us instead of apologizing. Not too long after, I found a hair in my matzo ball soup... and that combined with the chinese chicken salad was extremely average. They were very busy, which does sometimes entail mistakes in general, but there are plenty of restaurants that get rush hours that *don't* suffer in staff or food quality. I probably won't be eating here again.

Yesterday I was picking up my take out order and the guy at the front said: " Oh... no tip at all? Nothing?" For what?!? For people doing their job? They lost all humanity in them demanding tip right to your face with no hesitation. I am already doing this business a favor by bringing them my business... That's just low class rude and disrespectful. I am a single mother who lost a job. I don't need to feel pressured and disrespected. Shame on this restaurant not taking care of its employees for them to be acting out this way and disrespecting its customers!!!

Nice people. Good deli food at reasonable prices. Couldn't ask for more. There isn't always a lot of parking. The staff is friendly and the booths are comfortable. Just what a deli should be.

Hands down the best! Food is amazing. Staff is amazing. I don't live locally anymore but know the owner from years ago and he still has the best food and service. My 83 year old mom eats here often even though she doesn't live that close but it's worth the drive. There is a server named Max who is just special. My mom and her sister always ask if he's working. If you need a place for great food and service this is it.

One of the best delicatessens around!!! Pastrami and corned beef are both great. Side salads are always on point. Tuna, chicken, egg and macaroni. It's hard to choose one, so I get a tiny portion of each. Service is always great as well!

Went to UBD yesterday with some friends for breakfast. I had an excellent French Toast made with egg bread or challah. Overall, the service was mediocre and the waitress was remiss in giving a friend a bagel with sour cream instead of cream cheese and a bad cup of coffee. Not a happy boy. I like the ambiance here, but for certain items they seem a bit overpriced as the service could be improved.

Do you want good food at a fair price? Do you want friendly service? Then let Uncle Bernie take care of you. Like a good deli, they have a variety of options and the portions are generous. I have ordered sandwiches, salads and breakfast there and I am never disappointed. And if I was, the servers are willing and able to take care of any issues. A great place to relax, eat and chat with friends or family.

This is my go-to spot for the best matzah ball soup in town and any cozy meal. The service is beyond incredible, all of the servers are extremely friendly and go above and beyond to make sure their customers are happy. Highly recommend!!

I love going to Uncle Bernie's. I also like getting take out from them. My two favorite dishes are Ham and Swiss Omlette with Breakfast Potatoes and plain bagel. My other favorite is the Complete Turkey Dinner with Chicken Noodle Soup, Turkey, Stuffing, Mashed with gravy, Veggies, Cranberry sauce, soft Drink and delicious bread pudding for desert, so much food, at a taste you can't beat.

I got the Reuben Sandwich with sweet potato fries it was amazing places clean service was excellent good recommendation to come in and they have a variety of food.

Went here one evening and it was closed, we put it on our radar to try it out. woke up early for Sunday breakfast, got there around 10 ish, not so packed and easy to get a table. We ordered coffee, water and juice, the juice was actually served as adult size, not 3oz sample at most places. We shared the build your own omelette, chose salami, mixed veggies, Ortega chili and avocado. The portion was pretty big and full of the ingredients. Some places give a scant amount of avocado, not here.. We split cinnamon french toast, wow!!! That was yummy!! We left full and would come back again. Looked at other people's orders and the deli sandwiches are pretty substantial. The employees were very friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. The facilities were clean. Plenty of parking available in the lot.

Born and raised in LA, and tried most of the Jewish delis. My entire life I've always sworn that Canters was the best, but I've met their Valley match. This place is truly five stars; great service, great food, great quality, great location, and a great atmosphere. Finally found a place to real fast, and have tribe gatherings for matzo balls!

$25 for a club sandwich with just turkey and ham nothing else. Not toasted no tomato lettuce bacon. Its not a club... wow just terrible

I love this deli but this morning was a bit disappointing. I usually get the brunch, which comes with eggs, potatoes, a choice of fish, and a bagel. I always get it with lox and have been impressed with the amount. Today the amount seemed to be cut in half. I was very surprised and disappointed.

I have been coming here with my clients usually for lunch. They are generous with their portions. Staff are nice. They give you time to decide what to order. My usual order is the pastrami sandwich. It is okay. I tasted better. Private parking lot Separate restroom

Oh I called my order in early before noon because I didn't want them to be in a rush. Really enjoy the food here especially the matzoh ball soup. Placed my order. Numerous items, but went over them very slowly with the man who was taking the phone order. Everything was correct (except) . I was told there were no bagel chips because I wanted to order a large bag, only to discover they put a few bagel chips in with my order? After he told me three times they didn't have bagel chips today? Now this is the fun part I asked for six slices of rye bread, because I ordered 3/4 of a pound of roast beef. Only to discover I got three slices of rye bread. The second issue was I paid to get (4) pickles, nothing is free in this world you pay for each pickle. He asked me how many I want and I said (4) twice! I go through the order and I only got three.? The place has good food, no denying. But when you call early before a lunch rush to get your order correct and delivered before lunch. The guy asks you two and three times -- then reads it all back to you before submitting it. I just don't get it? Come on Uncle Bernie's. Step up. Get somebody on the phones who understands what's going on to get the orders going out correct. And This is not the first time. Somebody needs to double check the orders, triple check if you need to..... You guys didn't open up yesterday and there's no excuse for not getting someone's order right. Paying good money for food and I left your driver a $10 tip in a envelope too... I'm not cheap -- and I want my order right!!

I tried the matzo ball soup and the pastrami sandwich. The best!!! This is my new go to spot, can't go back to Canters after trying this. The soup tastes like it was slowly cooked with love by your Grandma. Generous portions too. The sandwich was piled very very high, no way I could bite it as is lol. The meat was delicious, super tasty, and not full of fat and gristle. Can't wait to try more!

I had a craving for soup and sandwich for lunch today and the locals always rave about Uncle Bernie's. I ordered a half sandwich (rare roast beef on toasted sourdough) and Matzo ball Soup. The service was very friendly and the servers were running around at warp speed. I give them 5 stars for refilling my Diet Coke. The soup and Matzo ball were outstanding and the sandwich was ok. I was expecting lettuce and tomato and maybe a pickle on the side. Since I never ate here, didn't know what to expect. I had the potato salad as a side but after seeing everyone eating French fries, I will try them next time. The sandwich was a lot smaller than I envisioned so I will go with a full sandwich as well. Overall, good quality food, clean restaurant and great service.

Uncle Bernie's Deli has a modern feel with some longstanding charm and some great service via Nancy, our top-notch server who didn't miss a beat. The food is what you'd expect at a Jewish-style Deli Bakery, especially in Encino, Los Angeles but not really all that impressionable compared to places like Brent's (Northridge), Mort's (Tarzana), or Art's (Studio City). My friend is somewhat of a delicatessen enthusiast so we often find ourselves at one of many. I've passed Uncle Bernie's on Ventura Blvd and White Oak several times over the years but never really felt a draw in as it sits at an angle just before the McDonald's and Chevron at the corner and you'd almost miss it if you weren't looking for it. Uncle B's has an assortment of sandwiches, salads, and soups including a veggie soup that's good for any and all maybe not the best on a 95-degree day though the AC is perfect inside so maybe a soup might not be so bad. The pickles are kosher (of course) and delicious, but the sides, fries, and appetizers are beyond low in flavor and a tad mediocre... When you have to pepper and salt your dishes more than twice maybe bring some zest to the classics. I personally feel a lot of longstanding classic-style eaters like this could benefit from so modern flair and some additions in their dietary restriction catalog/menu. The prices to portions are slightly more than other places... My side of home fries was a little sad for five bucks and also more charred than expected, but made the way I hoped with onions and bell peppers and mostly golden potatoes. Bernie's often has sporting events on one of their flatscreens overhead which keeps patrons around even after they've had their cheesecake and various desserts... And let me tell you... The customers were a handful the day we stopped in... We tried to get past a group of ladies blocking the pathway to the entrance/exit without a care in the world. We politely interjected with an, "Excuse me," three times. two of the women to a step back but the main lady didn't budge an inch. We sat near a group of four where the dad's mom was coughing for a good couple of minutes possibly due to water and/or food going down the wrong pipe. I hope she's okay, but also have hopes she'll cover her mouth next time O.O. Bernie's Deli has a printed Masked Required sign on the door and the majority of the staff is wearing one, but none of the customers upon exiting or entering which I find strange... Why even go through the trouble of having it printed on the glass... The service we received was some of the best, but I'll definitely be taking a beat from Bernie's for quite a while.... My sandwich connoisseur said the same thing... It's not a bad place (well kept up)... It's just okay.

Been coming here for years and it never disappoints. Food is always on point!! Service is not that great. This past visit took about 20 min for our waiter to come by. It's was Friday night and they only had 2 waiters for the whole restaurant. The manager never came out to help them out. Just saw him at the end to collect the check. We also had the homemade apple pie warm with vanilla ice cream. Amazing!!!

Originally Fromans way back when this place has gone through bumps through a variety of owners. Ambiance has not changed. And it's been Uncle Bernie's deli now for quite a while back to serving the delicious deli we all love.

A lovely woman from the Skirball Cultural Center gift shop told us about Uncle Bernie's Deli. We'd never heard of it before. She said that they had the best Beef Tongue sandwich. After leaving the museum, we decided to try this deli out! There was no wait at all... That's always nice, but kind of unheard of at other delis. The open floor plan makes the restaurant very loud. I did really appreciate the chairs as they are comfortable. 4/5: Beef Tongue Sandwich - It WAS really good! Their steak fries have seasoning, which is always a plus. 3/5: Hot Pastrami Dip - The pastrami was good. I wish there had been cheese on it. 1/5: Chicken Noodle Soup - the broth had no flavor 1/5: Matzo Ball Soup - Ok, so I guess I'm spoiled by Brent's Deli who has super delicious Matzo Ball Soup... but this was not good. The broth was pale and had little flavor and the matzo ball did not taste good at all. To their credit, they removed it from our bill without us even asking. I do appreciate that.
