Where to Eat in Denver’s LoHi Neighborhood | Eater Denver

"Tommy Lee’s flagship not only helped put LoHi on the map when it opened in 2012, it all but single-handedly started the local craze for ramen — and it’s still going strong. While noodle soup’s the centerpiece, small plates like soft-shell crab buns and kimchi butter–fried potatoes make it a meal alongside saké aplenty." - Josie Sexton

Six South Denver Restaurants to Try This Week - Eater Denver

"Though this bright Pennsylvania Street spot has the same name and ramen dishes as Chef Tommy Lee’s first Ramen restaurant in Highland, it is far from just a duplicate. Uncle II, which opened in July, offers a greatly-expanded menu that includes dishes like celery salad with XO sauce and short rib Penang curry. There is also an expanded ramen selection and a whole bunch more seating (Uncle II is twice the size of the original)." - Georgina Rupp

The 2019 Guide to Getting Away From Denver Restaurant Week | Eater Denver

"Hot bowls of ramen here are not on special during Restaurant Week — but wait times may be shorter at the perpetually busy restaurant. Popular ramen options include the spicy chicken with spicy sesame broth, or a ramen with confit duck, arugula, and apple in a shoyu broth." - Camila Navarrette

Denver’s 17 Essential Ramen Shops | Eater Denver

"A small but ever-evolving menu by Tommy Lee means a line wrapped around the block for spicy broth, noodles packed with umami, and clever toppings. 12 Bao Buns to Try Around Denver | Eater Denver

Google
Not a bad spot for some ramen! Friendly service, good drinks, and delicious spicy cucumbers. The spicy chicken was pretty good. I loved the broth and noodles. The chicken was a little tough but I think I expected that when it comes to chicken in ramen. Aside from that, everything was wonderful. Now for my standard comments. Location is well kept and clean. Decent indoor seating though can get a little crowded. Still very comfortable.

Google
Uncle is known for its ramen, but their Highlands location has so much more to offer—especially during their Summer Happy Hour (Monday through Saturday, 5–7 PM). I recently stopped by and was seriously impressed with the variety and quality of the small plates. Everything was flavorful and well-executed. Highlights included the Chinese Eggplant Bao (crispy and packed with flavor), the Chilled Tofu (so refreshing), and the Romanesco, which was a surprise favorite thanks to a great team recommendation. The hanger steak lettuce wraps and garlic shrimp were also delicious. Service was kind and knowledgeable, and the atmosphere is laid-back but modern. If you haven’t been in a while—or have only gone for the ramen—this happy hour is the perfect excuse to return. 📍 2215 W 32nd Ave, Denver, CO 80211

Google
God this meal blew me away. Came in on a chilly night looking for some ramen and I cannot stress enough that everything was an absolute HIT. The standouts were the spicy cucumbers, soft shell crab buns, and the crudo! So perfectly executed. Funnily enough, while the ramen was delicious, it was out-shined by the smaller plates. Amazing experience all around!

Google
Fun little resturant that is pretty unique based on colorado standard, but i have had many better ramens even in colorado. So it is fun date night or activity based diming experience but the food is meh, bao buns were similar to supermarket frozen buns. Staff were super nice and friendly and the place was trendy and hip

Google
I loooooove coming here for ramen and beers!! I’m vegetarian and highly recommend the Thai curry ramen and the eggplant buns. The Thai curry ramen is INSANE the broth is soooo delicious. The workers are always super friendly and nice :) thanks guys

Google
Originally a fan, great ramen, last three times I’ve had serious stomach issues eating here. Not sure if they changed quality control (like every spot in Denver) but it’s abnormal. Hope it gets fixed so I can update my review but candidly I’m not sure I’d eat here again.

Google
Denver Ramen staple, cozy spot with tight seating, the location closer to town has more options to spread out a bit, both locations are constantly busy so calling ahead for a rez is a good idea. Spicy cucumber is amazing, and the softshell crab bun is worth trying at least once. Duck Ramen is rich and satisfying, the dandan noodles also were a hit. Garlic shrimp were a nice surprise and delicious. Great selection of sake as well.

Google
We stopped by Uncle Ramen on a snowy night, and it was the perfect cozy spot! The interior has a warm and inviting atmosphere. We sat at the bar, and our meal was nothing short of amazing. Everything was so fresh, and the sauces were absolutely delicious. Highly recommend for a comforting dinner!

Yelp
Classic! I feel like the line at Uncle has gotten shorter as the years go on, since they still don't take reservations. I've walked in for dinner on random weeknights, and I've been able to get a table or sit at the bar right away. As always in this neighborhood, come early if you're meeting others to carve out time for street parking. Usually I get the Veggie Khao Soi with side of fried tofu, but most recently this summer, I wanted to try something cold - the Hiyashi Mazemen. Sooo good and refreshing! They have a special where my partner and I could get ramen and a bottle of sake at a discounted rate. Service is great, and I love observing the chefs work their magic.

Yelp
It's a shock to me that this only gets 3 stars, but the ramen was average. I am no ramen expert, but I've probably eaten 20-30 bowls over the years. This was so hyped up, but the flavors for me and my wife was meh. We both looked at each other as we ate and whispered, "This is it?" I got the spicy pork and she got another dish- the server did mention that the spicy chicken makes up 40% of their sales and neither of us got that. Service was great. Loved the outdoor patio.
google avatar

Yelp
One of the best noodle bars in Denver - I've been getting the khao soi and my sister always orders the spicy chicken ramen - both are unbelievable. We ordered eggplant buns and fried chicken because it was happy hour :) perfect spot for winter ramen!
google avatar

Yelp
This spot is popular, so get there early during the week, or be prepared to wait, as they don't take reservations. The atmosphere is casual and hip, with attentive and effective staff. The food my husband and I tried was delicious. The Chinese Eggplant Buns (two per order) were amazing: steamed buns stuffed with Fried Chinese eggplant, miso mayo, pickled plum mustard seed dressing, and cabbage slaw. The Spicy Chicken Ramen with a meat based spicy sesame broth, seared confit chicken, bean sprouts, and soft poached egg was also very tasty. The prices are higher than average, with a bowl of ramen priced at $19, and I found it a little surprising (and disappointing) to be charged extra for a small side of sauce that was suggested by our waitress. Still, Uncle is definitely worth a visit to experience their unique take on the traditional Japanese staple!

Yelp
We were going to order take out but then saw the "15% gratuity" automatically added to our order. WTF?? 15% mandatory tip for take out. We are taking out business elsewhere...........

Yelp
It was our anniversary trip/ dinner and with the chilly weather and flu-ish feeling we were up for some ramen! The reviews did say they have a wait, 2-3 hours or a line that sometimes runs around the block, so we went to the less popular newer location instead. We did have to wait about 15-20 mins though (not too bad). When asked if we were celebrating anything, we did say our anniversary. They did sent us out a cold tofu appetiser that was delicious that we somehow would not have ordered ourselves reading the description. The place was busy, the staff was so efficient, the bao was smaller than what I've had at other restaurants, so we got the pork belly one as well as the soft shell crab one that I devoured alone( the hubs is allergic, more for me.. yay!) my husband got the chili pork ramen, that was soo spicy and felt amazing for our stuffed sinuses (I said ours coz I stole some of his). We also got the chilli bomb on the side. Which I used to spice up my chashu pork ramen. We obviously could not finish our ramens, had to pack almost half of it to go. Breakfast noods for the win!
google avatar

Yelp
Uncle is a fabulous spot for ramen comfort food. I also love their cold noodle dishes. Right now they have a nice bogo deal for some days after 8.
google avatar

Yelp
Chashu Ramen: 4/5 the broth was good but not worth the wait, the chashu was tender, wish they had a creamy broth option. Fried quail: 4/5 difficult to eat but the vietnamese flavors from the fish sauce was addictive Pork buns: 5/5 tender pork belly with well balanced ingredients
google avatar

Lindsey D.

Yelp
First time trying Uncle while visiting a friend. I wanted a light ramen so got the chashu ramen. The pork was flavorful and tender. First time I've had arugula in ramen which wasn't bad just odd. My husband got the same dish but had to send his egg back due a bug being on it.
google avatar

Yelp
Duck ramen and the pork belly bao buns are my ultimate favorite. I love bringing friends here and showing them my favorite ramen spot. Service is quick and you get the community table feel. You can't make a reservation on line so you need to get there early to get on the list and all of the party must be present to sit. It's a busy restaurant and has a busy feel so not for those who want a quiet dinner, it's a lively spot. Never have I had a bad experience there!
google avatar

Rachel M.

Yelp
Delicious food with a wonderful, laid-back atmosphere in the Highlands. They can accommodate a few of their dishes to be gluten-free. I had the duck ramen - so flavorful and filling! I'd recommend sitting outside and enjoying the ambiance. Excellent, quick service.
google avatar

Michael G.

Yelp
I tried everything but the ramen and WOW! A friend recommended this spot while I was visiting, and it was too hot to get ramen so I decided to rely on the appetizers! I was not disappointed at all! The hamachi was mind blowing and the flavors all complemented each other so well. So refreshing. If you're a crudo fan - this will not disappoint. I had to dable in their buns, so I opted for the soft shell crab. Another winner and great flavors. Lastly, I tried the grilled shrimp with sweet corn. Yea, it was messy, but boy did it pack a punch! Perfect spot for a solo date, date night, or to catch up with friends!
google avatar

Yelp
Went here with a group of friends and despite there being a lot of people we were sat quickly. We started with the pork bao which was yummy but not the best I've had. For my meal, I had the Khao soi with fried tofu. I was surprised that the tofu comes on the side instead of in the dish but it still tasted good. The Khao soi was solid, again not the best I have had but still very good. Service was good besides one interaction. They also first come first serve here.

Yelp
Wanted some ramen on a cloudy and rainy day and stumbled upon Uncle. Reading the reviews really got my hopes up and decided to try it. We ordered our ramen ahead of time and headed off to pick up about 20-30min later. The place is very small, the waiting area was only big enough for 3-4ppl max. As soon as you open the door you could tell it was packed, couldn't even get in. While we waited to receive our order I over heard that the wait was very long. (It was also Friday night) So if you are in a hurry or don't have have too much time to wait, I suggest you order ahead of time. Now the food. It is definitely pricey, about $18 per Ramen. We ordered a Chili Pork Ramen and the Chasu Ramen. The chili pork was okay, I didn't really like the pork flavor this one had. It didn't blow me away but I ate the whole thing so it wasn't too bad. The Chasu........BLEW MY SOCKS OFF! The pork was sooo tender, juicy and it almost melted in my mouth. I could eat this everyday for the rest of my life. We did get a spicy bomb but wasn't a fan.

Ashley L.

Yelp
10/10 on service, ambiance, and food. Coming from SoCal, I was not disappointed in the ramen flavor (not too heavy, not too salty). Spicy chicken was perfect. Service was helpful and loved the music and vibe of the place too.
google avatar

Ana R.

Yelp
I ordered the spicy chicken ramen and the server let me sub out pork belly, which was really nice. The spot is pretty small, and we were sat at a communal table. If you're looking for simple, yummy, and quick ramen then this is the spot.
google avatar

Elizabeth J.

Yelp
I ordered ramen and bao buns for delivery and this so so very good. It's a cold, snowy spring day and I craved a cozy delivery. I ordered the soft shell crab buns and they were fantastic! Sometimes bao buns arrive chewy when they are delivered. These were still the perfect texture. Soft, fluffy, and light chew. Pickled daikon and radish, spicy mayo, and crispy soft shell crab were perfect. I also ordered the spicy chicken ramen. I couldn't finish it, but I sure tried. It was truly spicy, but a good warm, painless spicy. The broth was rich and flavorful and I enjoyed the full meal immensely.
google avatar

Kate E.

Yelp
Only ramen worth going to in Denver. Be prepared to wait on busy night and wish they offered lunch or open on Sunday but worth the effort. Add a spice bomb on the side and mix to your liking. For Denver - top Asian food and very solid ramen.
google avatar

Sadie J.

Yelp
Love their ramen! They have different styles including a khao soi which is amazing! They also have a great cocktail menu which they change up periodically. No reservations and gets pretty crowded at times but you can put your name down, grab a drink in the neighborhood or walk around and they'll text you when the table is ready. A lot of people also seem to pick up takeout.

Yelp
After hearing my boyfriend rave nonstop about this place, I was glad to finally have a chance to try it. We shared a few small plates, and I am so impressed with the creativity and craft in how these dishes were created. The Chilled Tofu was so incredibly flavorful. We also ordered the Eggplant Buns and Soft Shell Crab buns, both delicious and satisfying. The Grilled shrimp with sweet corn was definitely a standout star, which is saying a lot as the other dishes were near perfect. I am excited to come back and bring my friends and family here!

Yelp
Experience: 4/5 I have walked past Uncle a few times and was always reluctant to wait in the line. But the line should not be a deterrent. The building is small, so a line tends to form in the very small waiting area. When I visited, the line moved quickly, and the service was phenomenal. Our waitress was attentive, the food came out instantaneously, and it was an overall pleasant experience. Taste: 5/5 In an effort to maintain my rating system integrity, I decided not to rate the spicy chicken ramen higher than a 5, but good god was it amazing. The broth had a depth of flavor, the chicken was delicious, and the noodles were cooked perfectly. I absolutely, whole heartedly, stand behind this ramen. It is fire and is absolutely worth the wait. Go getcha a bowl!!!
google avatar

Tom B.

Yelp
Uncle is a great spot for ramen. It's usually pretty busy when I go, but the food is always really good. The broth is tasty, and the noodles are cooked just right. I've tried a few different ramen bowls, and they're all solid. The place has a cool vibe, too. If you're into ramen, you should definitely check it out.
google avatar

Harley T.

Yelp
This place was SO good :) me & the bf showed up right when they opened so we got in quick (saw some reviews abt a long wait... just get there early if you don't want to wait!). We very easily found free street parking less than a block away. We had the chilled tofu, pork buns, chashu ramen, and veggie ramen. All of it was delicious and great portions for the price. Simple, comfortable setup inside in terms of seating. Would love to come back someday
google avatar

Liz P.

Yelp
A well oiled machine!!! The food, the service, the staff. Excellent. Top shelf!!! We will miss you guys. But when we are in Denver, we will be back. Hays off to Reed! We love Patrick too!!
google avatar

Stacey L.

Yelp
While not quite as "traditional" as some other ramen places, Uncle still serves up quality ramen and has become my go-to spot. This location does not take reservations and parking can be tricky, but they take your name and number for a wait list and text you when they're ready to seat you. More often than not, the wait times end up being shorter than anticipated. I've had the spicy chicken, duck, chashu - all are great and kind of depend on the mood you're in, but I usually default to the duck because I love corn in my ramen. Some apps we've tried and enjoyed are the kimchi potatoes, soft-shelled crab baos, and hanger steak (which is usually a default for us). They have several light Japanese beers and cocktails available to order. Tips: 1) If you're hungry, double noodles for $2 is totally worth it. It's actually a twice the portion and not just a little bit more. 2) Beware that the spice bomb is REALLY spicy. I ordered that my first time and only used less than 1/4 of it, and I am very tolerant with spice. 3) I love sitting at the counter and watching the cooking magic when it's just me and someone else dining in.

Victoria P.

Yelp
Lesson learned- if you love uncles and want to order take out save yourself the disappointment and DONT DO IT. Just go in. It's not worth it. The Togo orders aren't made to order. They're prepackaged and my spicy chicken was hard like cardboard hard. I was super bummed with my outcome after spending nearly 60$ on a kids ramen a spicy chicken and some crab buns. Will be going in to eat from now on.
google avatar

Virginia C.

Yelp
Ok. I like the ramen here, because that is why you come... But - I rather just come for their cold tofu dishes and soft shell crab baos! Things to note: no rev but some outdoor seating. My fav is to sit at the bar and watch them cook!
google avatar

Nick W.

Yelp
Uncle is just so good, all the time, at both locations. I've been to the other location a number of times, but we decided to try this one out! The inside is small, cute, simple, and pleasant. There is much less room here and it's long table communal seating for the most part. If sitting next to strangers is weird for you, maybe go to the other spot. The pork buns are unbelievable, we always get them. All of the ramen options are amazing too - I usually do the spicy chicken and never regret it. Easily some of the best ramen in town - check it out!
google avatar

Russ T.

Yelp
Hands down my favorite ramen in Denver, and I can honestly say I've tried a lot of different places. Specially the spicy chicken. The broth is to die for. I could be having the worst day of work and having this for dinner is an instant turn around. The staff is super friendly, including the host staff who admittedly have a tough job with how small the restaurant is (I would have given 4 stars for the size of the restaurant but the food completely makes up for it). The staff deals with conveying a lot of long wait times but does everything they can to get you seated. My other downside is the front waiting area. The host staff actually has to encourage people to leave while they're waiting for a table because they really don't have the space. Again, I realize this is a 5 start review and I have a big reason to leave a 4, but the staff and food are both powerhouses.
google avatar

Mallory M.

Yelp
This is by far my boyfriends favorite spot in Denver, and I can definitely see why! Uncle is so good! I get the spicy chicken ramen every time and even ask for an extra side of the spicy miso paste to add in (i loveeeee spicy). I've also gotten their pork belly buns and the buns are so fluffy and almost sweet, mixed with the savory pork belly filling, a GREAT appetizer before the ramen. I love the location of this place as well. Even though the inside is really small, they have outdoor seating and it's easy to get it to go too. I wish i had pictures to show y'all, but I just get too excited to eat it!
google avatar

Dylan S.

Yelp
Uncle ramen has been on my list of ramen places to try for quite some time and I'm finally getting the chance to try. Well worth the wait. I ordered chashu ramen and the sleeper hold to drink. Also pictured is the fried eggplant bun. The chashu in the ramen was so perfect and fatty. Broth was amazing and warm for a snowed in night. Staff was very accommodating and nice. Having food prep right next to the bar tops shows how clean and confident this restaurant is in their cooking and cleanliness. We sat next to the "bun" prep station at the end of the bar and had great conversation with Duncan. Duncan deserves a raise.
google avatar

Xan J.

Yelp
One of Denver's finest! The ramen was amazing, and the price was right. Our server was very friendly and recommended some great menu options based on our preferences. Monday-Thursday they have a special: 2 noodles + 1 bottle of cloudy sake for $49. Although the sake isn't the highest of quality, this is a steal. We recommend starting with pork belly buns, then having the spicy chicken ramen or their pork belly ramen. 10/10!
google avatar

Savana G.

Yelp
The service here is impeccable. In all my years of dining I have never had my water constantly filled so perfectly until my experience at here at Uncle (and I drink a ton of water!). Great staff and so kind. You can't just get this food anywhere else either. Mustard seed jelly? Wow. I'm vegan and there's really only one entree but that'll do. This tofu melts in my mouth which I didn't even know could happen. Ambiance: fresh and everything feels so clean. Cool seeing the kitchen too. It was a little loud, but not in an annoying way. I love the natural lighting too. IMPORTANT: This restaurant takes their cancellation policy very seriously. They have a 10 min grace period. If there's a no show: they may charge a $25/guest fee (yes, they take their cc info). I was running about 15 min late and called, they were very understanding and said don't worry! I recommend getting reservations too, as this is a hopping place! Just take heed of their strict rules.

Caden M.

Yelp
Overall pretty good experience. the broth was fairly bland in the ramen but the duck tasted great. Maybe will try something that's not ramen if I go ever again.
google avatar

Allison H.

Yelp
Food was very yummy! The staff was also very friendly and helpful! Went on a busy Saturday night and only had to wait around 25 min
google avatar

Jen B.

Yelp
Very chill little spot. The wait can get long because the restaurant isn't very big, but I like that it's cozy inside ! Our server was cool and helpful, knowledgeable about the sake. I think the dishes other than the ramen are what I would look for ... we had bao buns, spicy cucumbers, (hanger?) steak, and ramen. The ramen was pretty average. I personally would go to a more authentic place if I was looking for just ramen, but overall the experience was good and I would come back.

Cindy H.

Yelp
Excellent ramen! The spicy chicken was amazing but what surprised me was the side of tofu - really good.
google avatar

Alexa N.

Yelp
Uncle is hands down one of the best ramen place in Denver. I normally get takeout from here but I finally decided to eat at the restaurant and it was delicious. My favorite ramen is the spicy chicken. I have also had the duck and Chashu but I always go back to the spicy chicken. The highlands location is super cute. The inside is a little small so there can be a long wait if you come during normal dinner times. I always recommend this place to family and friends visiting town!
google avatar

Karen D.

Yelp
we ordered the spicey chicken ramen the chicken was hard and inedible the sauce was creamy mess that looked like it was close to separating. On top of that my husband got sick from the ramen was unable to eat the next day.... Plus our bill was not of 2 $$ rating very mis leading .....will not return!
google avatar

Dana B.

Yelp
I came here two nights in a row because once I tried it I had to have it again! Service was great, and once you were sat down it was quick. I had the duck ramen and loved it. Also have a nice beer and sake selection. 10/10 recommend!
google avatar

Fred V.

Yelp
Best Ramen in the city. Really blown away by the flavors. The cocktails were also legit. We went on a Monday, so it was pretty easy to find a table outside on the patio.
google avatar

Nichelle B.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing! We happened upon the place and were just going to have an appetizer and a drink and Mahoney one of the chefs talked us into a second. We tried something else but came back. Mahoney made the place for sure !

lindsey c.

Yelp
Chef Chris is aahhhmazing. We had the best time, amazing food, service was great and the experience was so good. Thank you Chef Chris and Uncle, be back soon!
google avatar

Jenny W.

Yelp
Okkkkkk so our first time trying a ramen restaurant and we are SOLD! The service was amazing, everyone is so friendly and welcoming. The menu is simple but seems to cover something for everyone. I'm vegan and loved their veggie ramen!
google avatar

Sergio M.

Yelp
The food service and ambiance were incredible. It was a little packed but we were sat pretty quickly. Always worth a visit whenever we're in town.
google avatar

Yelp
Uncle, oh uncle. Its life changing. First thing you should know is their Ramen is NOT traditional, and they are proud of that fact. Why? Because its DIFFERENT. Get their spicy chicken Ramen. Its taste is unlike anything you have ever had. They make small buns, and dises with rice also, but the Spicy Chicken Ramen is their top seller. Im in here at least once every 10 days or so. Hint: As of now they are only open for 4 hours a day, from 5-9....but thats not due to a lack of customers. You will most likely be waiting for 20-50 mins on a Thursday, Friday, or Sat. The trick is to go their on a warm day mon-wed, or show up EXACTLY at 5pm, then you should get right in! Usually by 5:10 they are already full and on a wait, so don't be late!
google avatar

Paige G.

Yelp
Favorite ramen spot in Denver. I order the Khao Soi almost every time I go and it never disappoints. Perfect combination of texture and flavor with a great spicy kick. Other favorites include their hamachi sashimi and eggplant buns. Highly recommend getting here early as it fills up quickly and wait times can get up to 2+ hours. Worst case, you can put your name in and grab a drink at one of the great bars nearby.
google avatar

J P.

Yelp
The best ramen I've had outside of NYC. This place is excellent, definitely want to go back.

Brad B.

Yelp
Uncle is one of my favorite restaurants in the city. Been coming here for years and for everyone that hasn't been before, let me tell you what to order; Appetizers; Kimchi potatoes (1 order serves two people) Lamb Kabob or Hanger steak depending on what your feeling Spicy Edamame, their sauce is so good that if they bottled it and sold it separately, I would have stocked at all times. Ramen; Whatever you order, get double noodles. It's $2 extra and oh so worth it. Obviously the favorite is the spicy chicken for a reason and if you haven't had it, it's a must. Chashu is also fantastic Duck is third place Be prepared to wait, the restaurant is tiny but cozy and you might share a table or bar with awesome other ramen lovers. Togo advice; Order the kimchi fries with no lid, they're all about the Crispyness and if you lid them, they will get a big soggy. The noodles come in a separate container, so always get an extra noodle order. Warm up the broth on the stove, don't put this amazingness in the microwave. I've been coming for at least 6 years with no plan on stopping. Also the $20 Ramen Saves shirt is one of my favorites because it is so comfy and if you know Uncle, you know the shirt.
