Busy Beverly Boulevard Deli Uncle Paulie’s to Open in Studio City Next | Eater LA

"I'm excited that a streetwear-famous, East Coast–styled Italian deli with a robust celebrity clientele is opening its third Los Angeles location in Studio City: Uncle Paulie’s will take over the closed Pagliacci’s at 3990 Vantage Avenue (just west of Laurel Canyon Boulevard) in a compact, roughly 900-square-foot space with a faded red awning that will require a relatively robust build-out, owner Paul James tells Eater. The team — led by James and co-founder/partner/designer Jon Buscemi — aims for a summer opening with no formal timing yet, and plans to offer the same takeaway options and merch as the Beverly Boulevard and Downtown LA spots but with lots of outdoor seating. The menu sticks to classic East Coast–style deli sandwiches with an Italian bent — from the layered cold cuts of the simple Italian to an artichoke caprese option and a meatball parm sub — plus lesser-seen kaiser roll breakfast sandwiches with scrambled eggs (a bodega staple in New York City and New Jersey); the Studio City location will most likely add heartier salads and quick takeaway items to suit the nearby offices and single-family homes." - Farley Elliott

The sandwiches are the best, the service is fantastic and the place is great to chill and people watch in studio city

Google
10 years ago, I stumbled on the first Paulie’s location on Beverly. Absolutely fantastic, the food, the service and Paul was always there, keeping things up to standard. Unfortunately, that location burned down and they moved a short distance away. I have picked up food at the new original location on W. 3rd Street for years and have always been pleased withe the service and food. Today my wife and I ordered from the Studio City store and were disappointed with the entire experience. I had the Jonny, roast beef, and the meat was not bite through. Several bites had gristle that pulled the meat from the bread when I bit into the sandwich dangling on my face (gross). The bread also seemed a little off, not stale, not fresh, a bit over processed. I ended up throwing half of the sandwich away. Also they mixed too much balsamic vinegar with the horseradish sauce, causing sandwich to taste a little sour. We ordered cookies, but apparently they ran out, which was very odd. From our order alone, the owner lost 10 bucks on one sale for the lack of cookies. When I picked up the food, I started to leave and realized the bag seemed a bit light. When I looked inside, my wife’s sandwich was missing. I went back, of course, and retrieve the sandwich which my wife was happy with. The store seemed poorly run, the employees were confused and the extraordinary care that the other stores put into their food was not evident in studio city. I would encourage Paul to go check this place out and maybe whip it in into shape. There were no design elements, it felt more like a Subway Sandwich shop than a Paulie’s.

Google
One of the best experiences ever! The food was absolutely delicious 😋 and the service even better!! I tried the Uncle Ronny, but honestly the Mortadela, Egg, & Cheese was EVEN BETTER!! Highly recommend! The Kaiser rolls were soooo good and you can even buy cold cuts here to take home! 10/10 recommend!

Google
My spicy Italian sandwich was so good!! Really hit the spot right after a Fryman Canyon walk.

Google
Have heard about this spot for a while and tried it today. Sandwich was perfect, prickly pear lemonade was delicious. Service was fast and friendly. Sarah helped me choose my sandwich and was so sweet. There’s a nice patio too.

Sharon M.

Google
Stopped by Uncle Pauline’s Deli today and had such a great experience. Sarah was amazing, she took the time to explain all the sandwiches to us and made it really easy to choose. The service was super friendly, and we can’t wait to try our sandwiches!

Google
Food is superb. They make my son the kid’s sandwich. He loves the salami with pickles and shredded lettuce. It’s perfect. They’re so nice here. Bread is incredible.

Nina M.

Yelp
My favorite neighborhood deli. Literally everything on the menu is good! Service is so amazing and they have Zapp's chips!!

Michael B.

Yelp
Been to most. This is the best sub sandwhich in town. Get the Italian Cold Cut. As good as it gets.

Alice Y.

Yelp
the best sandwiches in town! great atmosphere and service. I got the Italian sandwich and it was delicious

Yelp
Any hype you hear is well warranted. DELICIOUS. They also have gluten free bread that actually tastes good lol oh and parking! If you have free time and a few extra dollars, it's definitely worth it.
google avatar

Yelp
First time here and tried the Italian and it was very good. Bread was a nice combination of crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside and all of the stuff didn't ooze out of the other side like at some places. They have a pretty long menu that is definitely worth exploring. Only a few seats at a counter, and more out the back, but that's a tough ask during the hot Valley summers. Lots of parking in a lot behind the building

Yelp
Have walked by many times and wanted to try. Today was the day. Going to the beach and perfect for the picnic. Got 2 Italians (1 for my son) and a Paulie. The Paulie was refreshing ... I'm not sure why. Just kind of light but just right with the perfect balance of moist, thinly sliced turkey, lots of arugula and roasted red bell peppers. The Italian was solid - again, just the right balance of ingredients. Son agreed. Different breads on each, but both were well suited for the sandos. Cute little spot inside (clean and pleasant) with a few seats + patio seating in the back. Friendly service. Will definitely be back to try more.

Yelp
This is the little sandwich shop that could. And did! Small but big on taste and flavor. It's kinda a throwback to a different era which I enjoy in the time of so many franchises. They have a small eating area inside as well as a couple tables outside, and you can most likely find free parking in the back because it shares the block with other businesses. It's just off Ventura Bl, so keep an eye out. A tiny Italian deli with really tasty hot and cold sandwiches. Freshness is held in high regard here. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Great sub shop in Studio City! We randomly stumbled upon it and we're so glad we did! This is a legit sandwich, full of goodies and freshly cut meat. The sandwiches were on a nice crunch bread and all the ingredients were fresh. They were pretty big sandwiches too - next time I would've shared a sandwich! They pumped the sandwiches out pretty quick. The branding and aesthetics are phenomenal - from the wrapping, store front, and even down to the tape that holds the sandwich together. Lots of thought went into this business, bonus points here! We want wait to go back and try other sandwiches.

Yelp
I want to start off and say that the vibe of this place was immaculate, and super chill. The menu was filled with clever names and I did take my time to pick what sounded good and decided to dive in. Unfortunately, the Prosciutto sandwich I decided to split wasn't great. I want to be clear, that making a sandwich like that is difficult because if the meat clumps together it's a chewy mess, and the ratio of arugla to balsamic left me wondering why there only felt like a drizzle of balsamic was added at all. The mozerella, while tasty was in big oval chunks but something felt off about it that I can't quite place. The bread was pretty tasty though, and had a wonderful crunch with a soft inside. Ending on a positive, their fresh squeezed juices were delicious. I tried the blood-orange lemonade and the prickly pear lemonade and both are enough to make me want to grab something to drink here again at the very least. I would be open to trying something else here, but for the price points I expected a little more bang for my buck, you know?

Yelp
Amazing little sandwich shop! Many great options! Nice ambiance, ample parking, lots of seating, chill vibes! The portions are very big. The cold brew was delicious. Definitely recommend
google avatar

Elba G.

Yelp
The place is pretty delicious and worth the wait. If you're in the area and want an affordable bite with a lot of flavor, this would be it. I love trying different sandwiches but can confirm that the bread is delicious, I really like their sides, especially on a hot day. Their lemonades are my favorite. Service is friendly, NOT quick but friendly. It's very casual and honestly I appreciate that. It's very welcoming but seating is super limited. I'd def come back, especially if I'm in the area walking around.
google avatar

Nijole T.

Yelp
I absolutely love the sandwiches here! Their breakfast sandwiches are good too, and I love their salads and sides. Prices are fair and I love that they open early. Online order and pick up is breeze. They have a bit of seating, but it also travels very well to go and is packaged well. Great option if you're looking for a casual yet delicious meal in the area!

Yelp
Sarah is an angel! And the Sammie's and freshly made juice are incredible!!!! The service and atmosphere is unmatched!

Yelp
The uncle and turkey pesto are so good. I highly recommended those of good sandwiches. Great service
google avatar

Yelp
Solid sandwiches. Great Italian, roast beef, chicken pesto, etc. will continue to spend our money here! Convenient and cordial staff.
google avatar

Mark K.

Yelp
This deli has the BEST sandwiches and salads. I have been ordering them for lunches at work and could see myself ordering these everyday. I don't have them everyday because it's not that healthy to have big meaty sandwiches every day but if I could i would.

ZW P.

Yelp
Friendly service from Sara, and quick turnaround from the kitchen crew! Make sure to try The Carol! Thanks!

Yelp
Excellent Italian deli , New York style in LA . Great atmosphere. Ordered the Gina and I'm very pleased

Yelp
Tried the tuna here and it was pretty good ! Well seasoned and fresh. Also tried out the Mac salad which was ok and lemonade which was good ! Small shop with good seating outside . Ran into a small issue with sandwich and they were quick to re make and make sure we were satisfied. I would come back and try some of there many other options in the future .
google avatar

Frances M.

Yelp
Portion sizes are huge and this is easily 2 meals, but the sandwich was just okay. Great for a quick. Located in a great area and parking is plentiful.
google avatar

Luis M.

Yelp
The service was amazing the minute you walk in the door. Music is lively and staff is very energetic. The food was so fresh and full of bold flavors.

Yelp

Yelp
Was looking on Yelp for a sandwich place and this got good reviews so decided to call and do a pick up. We got 4 sandwiches, 2 of which has cheese on the side as a couple are dairy free. It's a quick drive and one parks in front and walks in. When saying my name I was given a bag and made the mistake of not looking at in when given the bag. When I got home my wife looked in the bag and only 3 sandwiches were there. We called up and the good news after looking at the order they said to come and pick up the fourth. When going in the lady behind the counter said "here!" and turned away. No comment, no apology, just "here!" The sandwiches were okay, but due to the attitude of the lady behind the counter my wife would prefer not going again.
google avatar

Sara T.

Yelp
Really tasty but SO OVERPRICED for what you're getting. Barely any substance between the bread. Can't call these subs. Not enough meat or sauce. Dry sandwiches that leave you wanting. Not worth the hype at all.
google avatar

Luis M.

Yelp
uncle Pauly has the best breakfast sandwiches you can find in the West Coast and this is coming from a New Yorker amazing breakfast sandwich sandwiches I dream about them every single day
google avatar

Yelp
Since Uncle Paulie's Deli opened a location in the valley, it's been a great addition to the neighborhood. Uncle Paulie's Deli is located at the intersection of Ventura Blvd and Vantage Ave here in Studio City directly behind Starbucks. There is plenty of free parking since it's inside one of the biggest and most popular shopping plazas on Ventura Blvd. As for seating, you have the option to sit inside on a high top and there's outdoor seating right in front or in the small back patio. Each time I have gone, I always encounter friendly and welcoming staff. I also try to get a different sandwich on each visit as I often ask for any recommendations. Uncle Paulie's definitely gives off an east coast neighborhood sandwich shop vibe and it is a nice change up if you're wanting to try something new for lunch.

Dylan S.

Yelp
Food and service are always great, love the turkey pesto on seeded bread with side of make it hot

Yelp
Sarah is the greatest person I have ever met. Sandwich was good too. The Carol is superb!

Jazmin L.

Yelp
Best sandwich spot in Studio City! We came here randomly and noticed it was busy, so we decided to try it, and we're glad we did. The sandwich was perfect and a good size. Highly recommend!

Rochelle L.

Yelp
Foods amazing The girl taking orders, needs a little more work on her customer service. I honestly wanted to order more but she wasn't very friendly, sad part I really wanted to try their cookies and but nope not with her attitude. I'm good.
google avatar

Desiree S.

Yelp
Friendly staff, good vibes, and good food. Very large menu it's hard to chose! Easy parking!
google avatar

Carlita J.

Yelp
Fresh & authentic Italian sandwiches like NYC. Sara was a super nice, patient and friendly staff member. She helped us explore the menu for our preferences. Loved the veggie option - broccoli rabe + fried eggplant sando, definitely try with the sundried tomato spread. The patio is great to eat & bask in Studio City because you don't want to wait to devour the delicious deli food .
google avatar

Dana V.

Yelp
Uncle Paulie's has the best selection of sandwiches. They're always fresh and delicious. So grateful to have a place like this in our neighborhood that everyone in the family likes to eat at! The Turkey Pesto is my fav!
google avatar

Lilia P.

Yelp
I loved my meatball sandwich and the ice cream. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. highly recommend it.
google avatar

Savannah A.

Yelp
What a vibe! Here for the Mary Lou because we love a sweet and savory prosciutto situation. A great Studio City stop and hits every time.
google avatar

Todd B.

Yelp
Update to review, Great response from the owner to correct the situation. Will definitely go back and try again. Baguette for the bread was super chewy and hard to bite through. Customer service was terrible. Seemed like they didn't even start my online order that was placed 20 minutes before I got there, then was told it would be another 5 minutes. I waited, then asked about my order again and the person at the register looked at me as if she never saw me before then said it would be another 5 minutes. $50+ for two sandwiches is ridiculous for the quality and level of customer service you get.
google avatar

Sam S.

Yelp
Had been seeing this spot for a while and finally got the chance to stop in with some family for lunch. It's a small sliver of a restaurant, right off the parking lot behind the Bookstar Theatre Barnes & Noble and next door to Starbucks. Inside is clean and decently airy. There's limited seating inside with only a handful stools along the window. The outdoor covered patio is a nice vibe. There's a single unisex bathroom for use. The staff were nice and accommodating. We ordered The Gloria and The American, and added a side of pesto pasta salad and a bag of chips. We waited a decent amount of time to get out and our order total was pretty pricey. That being said, everything tasted good and we were full after only eating half of our sandos. The basil pesto pasta had a ton of fragrant basil flavor which I loved. If you can't find free parking in the lot behind the shop, look for street parking.

Almst G.

Yelp
Love this place! Great food and great atmosphere! Awesome people working here. Breakfast and lunch. Fed the team Try the uncle or downtown!

H R.

Yelp
whenever I crave a meatball sandwich I def have to go to uncle Paulie's for their meatball sub! Worth the drive. The atmosphere to both locations, studio city and 3rd street are pretty cool. Service has also been good to us, quick and nice!

Scott M.

Yelp
Looked like a great placed. Loved the menu. But ordered a turkey and cheese sandwich and they put a scrambled egg on it for some reason. And forgot to give me my coke. Should've gone to Arts!
google avatar

Bruce K.

Yelp
Got the Carmela via UberEats. Seemed a little dry and smelled odd, but the taste was fine and I finished it. It's a chain, so I know quality can vary from location to location. Several Yelpers thought the food smelled funny. Not comically funny but smelly funny. The macaroni salad was fairly dire. I didn't find this as good as say Firehouse or Jersey Mike's or even Subway. I did want to love it but it was not lovable. And none of these chains holds a candle to a real mom and pop sub place like Santoro's.
google avatar

Candi M.

Yelp
I love this local joint! Great value for money! They cater and do a bang up sandwich! This is my go to spot!
