"I'm excited that a streetwear-famous, East Coast–styled Italian deli with a robust celebrity clientele is opening its third Los Angeles location in Studio City: Uncle Paulie’s will take over the closed Pagliacci’s at 3990 Vantage Avenue (just west of Laurel Canyon Boulevard) in a compact, roughly 900-square-foot space with a faded red awning that will require a relatively robust build-out, owner Paul James tells Eater. The team — led by James and co-founder/partner/designer Jon Buscemi — aims for a summer opening with no formal timing yet, and plans to offer the same takeaway options and merch as the Beverly Boulevard and Downtown LA spots but with lots of outdoor seating. The menu sticks to classic East Coast–style deli sandwiches with an Italian bent — from the layered cold cuts of the simple Italian to an artichoke caprese option and a meatball parm sub — plus lesser-seen kaiser roll breakfast sandwiches with scrambled eggs (a bodega staple in New York City and New Jersey); the Studio City location will most likely add heartier salads and quick takeaway items to suit the nearby offices and single-family homes." - Farley Elliott
