Understory - Review - Little River - Miami - The Infatuation

"Understory, which you may have known in its previous life as The Center For Subtropical Affairs, is a Little River house that’s been converted into a venue and now hosts all kinds of performances and events. Understory is one of the coolest hospitality spaces in town and will also give you slight high school house party flashbacks. A good night to come here is on Thursdays from 8-11pm for jazz night (they have a nice bar program, too). This is a great date night option or an unexpected place to take those friends of yours who only ever go to the same two bars. Just a head’s up: cover for jazz night is $15." - Ryan Pfeffer

In the cut, but its worth going to! Lovely garden with delicious tacos and a bar. Live music and tons of nooks to get lost in :). I came for a art event and stayed for the music. The place gets packed very diverse crowd. I loved it

The music, the people, the vibes... This outdoor musical jungle oasis has it all. Been here a few times for the Rhythm Portal events and it never disappoints. Great drinks from the folks behind Jaguar Sun and delicious street tacos to keep you going through the night.

Very cool place! It's a beautiful garden with live music, different food vendors, and drinks. There's a free parking lot across the street.

Really cool venue! Had such a good vibe, wine bar, another bar, food trucks, etc.. I’d recommend going if you want to hang and hear live music.

This is a great new venue in a lush, tropical environment. It's an update on The Center for Subtropical Affairs, which was a little cooler, cheaper and more raw than Understory, but the new venue, to be honest, has better sound, drink options, and food options. It's just a dope spot, albeit a bit expensive, like most places in Miami.

Used to be cooler and more affordable when it was known as Center For Sub Tropical Affairs. Now its overcrowded. Overpriced drinks and is copying the wynwood aesthetic. It went from being a cool low-key garden that plays Jazz to some commercial night spot that has food trucks and bands

Great outdoor venue. Love that it has little nooks where you can still hear their performers but don't need to deal with the crowds. Tip: Don't wear heels.

Yelp
Loved this venue! It's like a jungle and your hippie friend's key west backyard in one. First time coming here and wish I'd come earlier to eat! We ordered drinks only during the show and everyone was super nice. We had a great time dancing with the Low Down Brass band from Chi-town last night. Can't wait to be back for more live music!

Yelp
Understory is such a cool and chill spot. A really bit venue with a lot to offer. Lots of lush greenery around and cool decor. It feels like a big maze, where you keep discovering something new. Their nights vary with different events from djs to jazz and they have a variety of food on given nights. When I went they had pizza and tacos. A main bar with cocktails, a wine bar, and beer bar. I opted for the vodka passion fruit cocktail. It was pretty tasty, just had too much ice. It comes in a cute re-usable plastic cup. Staff was nice and helpful throughout the venue. There is seating scattered throughout Understory for food or just to relax. Definitely want to come back again soon!

Yelp
If you are looking for a place where some of the best in Miami hospitality come together to create the coolest jungle vibes, look no further than Understory. Picture this - you walk into a tropical oasis and have the option of cocktails from Jaguar sun, wine selections from Bad Seed - a new wine bar pop up from Karina and the folks at Niu Wine -, rotating food from some of Miami's most loved chefs and last but not least - MUSIC! You'd think these folks just took your best friends magical back yard and created the most fun party in their house, but instead its at Understory and you can enjoy this oasis weekly on Thursday's and Fridays. I went for the first time last Thursday where I got to try a rum punch but with Mezcal that was delish. Then I moved on to a selection of delish wines and pizza by Flour and Weirdoughs. To say the vibe is impeccable is an understatement. I happily stayed until they closed at midnight, passing the time hanging out with friends and listening to the most fire playlist. They also have live jazz that starts at 9, which you can't really hear from the wine bar area since the space is so large, and DJs later in the evening as well as Friday. You can enjoy free entry before 8:30 pm. The best way to stay up to date on their weekly pop ups is to follow them on IG at @Understorymia. Can't wait to return!

Yelp
Visited for Jazz in the Jungle and could not recommend more! The venue is quite expansive with lots of seating surrounded by string lights and lush greenery. Cocktails and wine available for purchase on site, as well as food options such as pizza and tacos. Overall loved the vibe, and this would be a perfect spot for a date or relaxing night with a group!

Yelp
This place takes you somewhere else like a jungle but super beautiful. I've never seen a place like it. This place is perfect for a date night. I went here for a concert. But I was super mesmerized by this venue I walked around. I had food from this Mexican stand they had which were very friendly people. I enjoyed this place and the decorations so much. It's small but you are in a different world when you get here. I definitely fell in love with understory. It's a vibe and a must see venue.

Yelp
Very cool space with a lot of little nooks to hang out and have conversation. They have some small bites and drinks to pair with the entertainment. The vibe is super laid back. The music changes with a wide variety from the djs to the live acts

Yelp
I went for Jazz in the Jungle last night on 4/20/23.. The musicians were good, but honestly had there been adequate seating, maybe it would've felt enjoyable- or comfortable, at the least? $20 entry per person, only to enter and everything cost ~$18+ for a good drink in a mostly cute cup. I'm going to pretend that my $15 drink didn't become $19 just because they asked if I wanted whipped cream on my drink and I said yes lol At the end of the day, we're in Miami, I can't complain about prices. However, Lagniappe-house is equally expensive, and there's at least accommodated seating-- spots open up more frequently at Lagniappe because of the greater amount of seating being offered to begin with. Ultimately, the garden is pretty and vibes aren't horrible even despite the seating issue. Just come with the mindset of very-possibly standing the entire night and you'll be fine.

Yelp
Love this spot. Great vibes and drinks. Perfect for dates and live music especially the jazz nights. they also do painting events and other activities
