Unforgettable Carrot Cake 忘不了萝卜糕

Corner stall coming from blk 120 side. Famous/infamous.. Michelin guide for years. Joined the queue of about 15mins. Ordered a black carrot cake $5. Cooked with 3 eggs as per menu. Uncle prepping the radish at the back while aunty frying. Carrot Cake had a good char. Fragrant and slight crisp on surface. Their chilli is on the spicier side. Overall is good. Enjoyed it.

Ok not bad. I loved carrot cakes and oways trying around. This stall....good to have but not a Q or Travel Walked past a few times and today decided to try. Very eggy kind. Seems to be popular and have their own fans for sure.

Stall is run by a lovely couple that churns out both white and black version of carrot cake cooked to perfection. You can tell that they have perfect control of the fire from the crispy edges, a hallmark of their cooking. I find that their white version has a stronger umami flavour which isn’t masked by the sweet sauce. The black version was evenly coated with sweet dark sauce, fragrant and savoury without being overly greasy. It’s also a lard-free dish as they are using vegetable oil instead.

Good plate of carrot cake, humble shop owners. $5 plate contains 3 eggs, super protein and carbs altogether. Can ask owner to make more charred if you like.

I got #2 one black and on white done my Uncle. Especially the black it gave me the Ratatouille 70s vibe. My only hope to Dear Michelin please don’t screw this one up.

Boss Lucas, why not approved? Quite a good plate of carrot cake mah. We order a plate of black and a plate of white. And we split it among ourselves and then we got our Ying Yang Carrot cake 🤣 Pricing and taste definitely nothing to complain about. If I’m around. I will come eat it again. But today specially came here to eat this. Just to prove Boss Lucas wrong. Verdict: He is wrong.

Shiok, I loved the black version with 2 eggs. Carrot cake fry until damn fragrant — nice mix of chai tow kway with dark soya sauce, eggs crispy and got strong wok hei. Worth the indulgence once in a while lah. Michelle 2023–2025 not bluffing one. Usually got queue here, partly cos the cooking quite slow. Uncle/auntie just take their own sweet time, but maybe that’s why so nice. So just be prepared — queue moves slow slow, but worth the wait.
