biggest scam of my life One example: I went here as a student & my experience with UHS reflects the inadequacy of this place. I started a vegan diet my freshman year & started struggling with depression, extreme fatigue where I’d sleep 12 hours a day & still feel tired, and brain fog. I went to see someone at UHS, and no one asked about my diet—they just gave me antidepressants. I tried those, and they just made me feel numb, not any better. Later, I went again to see a campus nutritionist, who told me to “eat more carbs.” I tried that, and it didn’t help either. It wasn’t until a vegan friend recommended B12 (methylcobalamin) that I felt better—immediately. (I’d been taking cyanocobalin B12 which doesn’t work because it’s not as bioavailable in the body). Then about three years later, I ate meat again, and within two weeks felt like a completely different person: all my energy came back and I felt like myself again. It seems like a pretty simple solution. How does a top-tier university not catch that? Yet they train thousands of healthcare workers? I know the medical system is itself flawed- but dang, I expected top-edge material, I expected this place to be better than the status quo. But it is WORSE!

Overhyped school. Sometimes teaching is good, other times it's not. Overwhelming size of the school also makes it really difficult to get to know others and you will likely never get to know any of your professors. Although there are a lot of nice people here too, there are also a good number of people who are rude who will try to act as though they are better than you. Fans can be annoying at times as well. This school isn't exactly a beacon of progress either as they have recently rolled back all their DEI initiatives. Lack of windows in so many of the classrooms will also certainly leave you feeling "blue" (maybe that's what's really meant by "go blue").

I'm an alum. The education I received here 10 years ago as an engineer was less than stellar, but this institution has gone even more downhill since then. It's not a university anymore. It's a business. Capitulating to the Trump administration and getting rid of all its DEI initiatives is the final straw. They'll never get a penny from me again. They've completely forgotten that they're supposed to be champions of learning, and a beacon of free speech.

Established in 1817, the University of Michigan holds the distinction of being the oldest institution of higher education in the state. Renowned as one of the pioneering research universities in the United States, it is a founding member of the Association of American Universities, which was formed in 1900. As of the fall of 2023, the university boasts a faculty of 8,189 members and an enrollment of 52,065 students across its diverse programs. The University of Michigan oversees one of the largest annual collegiate research budgets in the nation. According to the National Science Foundation, the university allocated $1.639 billion for research and development in 2021, securing its position as the third highest in the country.

Trying to get an appointment with your doctor is now even a longer process. When I call I need to be evaluated by a nurse before I can make an appointment. You are placed on hold for 3-6 minutes. I usually go to urgent care when sick because it is much easier than trying to get an appt at u of m. I need to look elsewhere for medical care. It’s really a shame because I really like my doctor, but impossible to get in. If I send medical email question, you are charged. Completely out of control. It’s not a pleasant experience.

The University of Michigan boasts one of the most stunning campuses in the world, offering not only breathtaking surroundings but also a vibrant, supportive community. I couldn't have asked for a better place to call home—both academically and personally. The student vibes and sense of camaraderie made the experience truly unforgettable.

They pay millions of dollars to private investigators to survey their students and the cafeteria food sucks

Great university campus, happy students, friendly and ethnically-diverse atmosphere every time I've visited. Weighted against about ten comparable universities I've spent time around, this is in the top 3. Ann Arbor is a really nice place. :)

Yelp
I'm updating my previous review of the University of Michigan after riding bicycles through the Central Campus on a sunny Sunday afternoon. "U of M" as it's called locally, is the state's oldest university having been founded in Detroit 1817 before being moved to Ann Arbor 20 years later. It is also a very large public university with 46,000 students, second only to Michigan State University with its 50,000 students. Intercollegiate athletics are a big part of the university's tradition with a sprawling sports complex for the Wolverines including the "Big House" for football Saturdays. With over 500 major buildings on campus, the University's architectural styles stretch the limits from Angel Hall's Greek and Roman blend to Burton Tower's Art Deco design to the Law Quad's Tudor Gothic style. The University of Michigan is highly intertwined with every aspect of life in the Deuce. I think of the "U" as the anchor of this college town and in many ways, it is what makes the city different from every other city in the state of Michigan.

Yelp
I have visited this campus in the past but I had never seen The Union building. I was in Ann Arbor and had recently read Doris Kearns Goodwin's recent book, An Unfinished Love Story, about the times she and her late husband had spent covering political stories in the 60s, her husband mostly as a speech writer for some candidates and she reporting and teaching journalism. One incident that forever made the University of Michigan an integral part of John F. Kennedy's Presidential campaign in 1960 was the announcement he made from the Union steps here on campus. On October 14, 1960. JFK announced his intention to form the Peace Corps as an international service group of Americans, mostly college students and recent grads, at that time. The event was memorialized here at the Union steps, with 2 plaques. One on the step where he stood and one on the wall nearby at the building entrance featuring his famous profile and dedication of the event . I wanted to document this occasion with pictures of the plaques, though I had only watched the event at the time on the evening news on TV. But a dear friend of mine later went to this University and after graduating, went into the Peace Corps herself. She served in Niger in West Africa as she spoke French, the official language of the country. But she has never seen the plaques as they were not yet placed when she was a student. I sent her the pictures as she will not be able to go visit for herself. I am glad I had that opportunity to see it. She is not the only Peace Corps alum I know but the one I have known the longest. She was my Maid of Honor at my wedding which was before her Peace Corps service and I have known her since 1960.

Yelp
This place is absolutely amazing in every way. So much to do and see at U of M. This is my 8th trip here today from Illinois. Well worth every mile.

Yelp
If you're a Cal Berkeley alumnus, chances are pretty good that you'll have a strong sense of deja vu as you walk the campus here. They're similar enough for me to think I entered an alternative universe. By the way, is it 'alternative' or 'alternate'? Gee, if I came here, I'd probably know by now. Jamie W. is an alumnus, which explains why I was guided so expertly around the campus and surrounding area. We paid particular attention to the Diag where we freely walked over the brass block 'M' since we didn't have any upcoming exams. As if. We then ventured to the Law Quad and snuck into the ornate library, all of which felt Harry Potterish in its tranquil Cambridge-like setting (photo: http://bit.ly/2zkbWoI). Jamie and I had to walk through the Stephen M. Ross School of Business, which unsurprisingly felt state-of-the-art amid all the highly focused students (photo: http://bit.ly/2BgMRfK). The university art museum was free, so we took advantage not because we're connoisseurs but because it was freezing outside. That explains why we merely buzzed though the surrounding streets including bypassing the legendary Zingerman's for a sandwich. Well, we don't eat much bread anyway. It's definitely worth visiting even if you have no academic connection to Michigan. Besides, how could I begrudge a school that boasts the same colors as my alma mater, blue & gold. Maize? What do you mean maize? RELATED - Are you coming to Detroit? Here's a collection of places I've visited and reviewed: bit.ly/2TghclT

Yelp
Update: the professor I had been in touch with, professor Lohmann, seems to be as unprofessional as the rest of the faculty I had the misfortune of dealing with. We had a fine zoom meeting where we discussed the program I was interested in and he's the one that had me reach out to someone of Jennifer Alexander's job title for further assistance as well. Lohmann was supposed to get back to me the following week and I have not heard back since. Take your money, yearning for education, and search for good mentorship somewhere else. You will not find anything of value at this institution. Awful staff, such as Rose Cory and Jennifer Alexander. I've tried to go about seeking help with admissions and the only help I've received is from an actual professor. Rose Cory works in admissions and completely blew off our zoom meeting, later contacting saying another meeting went late but couldn't even have the courtesy to send me a message prior to our meeting letting me know she wouldn't be there. Jennifer Alexander is just pathetic and doesn't do the job she's listed to do on the schools website. I doubt I will continue to give this institution any more thought for enrollment. Absolute trash faculty.

Yelp
My family and I visited from Florida to check out a odor my oldest daughter who is a junior. It was a large campus but still had an intimate feel since the campus was contained..With COVID we did our own self guided tour. Artsy sculptures scattered around the campus and cute boutiques along the outer areas of the campus. Well thought-out campus. I think she would really enjoy it here.

Yelp
The people were nice visiting the ER, but nothing was really accomplished, and the person doing the billing information, did not take my billing information correctly, which ended up me getting a higher bill! I will not return here. Please update your staff, where they can do their jobs correctly!

Yelp
I used to date Mitch. Then I dumped him. Now that I'm at University, I'm dating Mitch again. It's one of the truly great and utterly vast, enormous colleges of the United States with a massive number of Michigan kids coming here every year and people from all over the country. The vast majority of your tuition money is being funneled into, let's face it. The sports programs. Sigh. Which kind of defines the college but I'm telling you a lot of people are pocketing a lot of your money for no particular good reason because education levels here are lower than High School in England. Nevertheless it's a grand and beautiful college with an amazing stadium and I love visiting here and I love some of the girls here too. Hi girls. (Hi boys).

Yelp
My husband went here for his PhD and found great friends and got a great education. I also made good friends here too. Marina Eppleman the professor is very strict on her students but very knowledgeable.

Yelp
OK, no one's seriously deciding on college via Yelp, are they? If you are, there's this school in Columbus that might be right for you... I've spent 15 years here as both an undergraduate student and an employee, and I've watched as lip service is paid to the systemic problems, but no real change ever happens. There are racial, economic, and cultural divides that have become more public, but the corporate-America-refugee administration still can't or won't address them. Instead, more money (tuition+donations+grant funds) is funneled into athletics and construction of more facilities to accommodate yet more people who can pay out-of-state tuition, and the cycle goes on. The University is a business. It says something when the senior HR administrators make more than most of the professors. But yes, the campus is nice, there are lots of amenities, the hospital is the best in the area, and the squirrels are scary.

Yelp
Large school in a medium size college town. It has many restaurants, stores and activities. There is a nearby river where you will see many students rafting. Great medical school and of course the big house Football stadium.

Yelp
This review is for the Admissions Tour for prospective and transfer students: I have taken classes at U of M and was born/raised in Michigan, which makes you think you know everything about Ann Arbor and the University. That is actually totally and wholly wrong. The tour, especially the first hour/presentation is a worthwhile experience for any student applying to colleges. My daughter insists she will NOT apply in state and wants to go west but I wanted her to know what;s in her backyard and have something to compare those schools to, so we spent a few hours and we are both glad we did! Even the walking tour, if you know AA inside and out, will surprise you with little facts about the architecture and the means/history behind the buildings.

Yelp
I ADORE Michigan. I have been a Michigan girl since I was in the 3rd grade and I will always remain loyal to my alma mater. If you're trying to decide on a good solid University with lots of school spirit, course offerings and a nice small-town feel, Michigan & Ann Arbor are for you. Reasons I Love U of M: 1) If you're *not* at a football game, you can hear the cheers from downtown 2) Before homecoming, you hear your favorite fight song being played by the marching band in the streets next to your window 3) We have the most winningest team in college football history AND we have the biggest and best football stadium 4) Ann Arbor is a great small-town feel with lots of eats, beats and people to meet 5) Amazing reputable courses and lots of famous professors 6) Cute squirrels! Who doesn't love squirrels? Although I love Michigan, I do have to mention the cons: 1) So many students, no individual attention -- lots of professors (and counselors) do not give individual attention to students -- you need to seek it 2) Expensive out of state tuition (but relatively affordable in-state) 3) Little job help and career fairs don't help at all (rely on your gut!) 4) No snow days (cuz some prat of a student's parent complained) 5) Cocky students

Yelp
Beautiful Campus. Coming from Cali, I came to visit my cousins who have graduated from here and as well as their younger brother coming into this University. The campus is huge and during my visit was a yelp event Ann Arbor Summer Festival: Top of the Park right on campus. So much spirit and pride flows through the streets of this campus. The campus buildings have such great architecture ranging from modern to renaissance. You also don't have to go very far for restaurants, bars, and hole in the wall places to experience. We were able to park and explore all within a 1 mile radius. I'd definelty come back again to visit and to explore more around here.

Yelp
An education here opens up many doors...mostly the front door so I can boot my daughter out finally(Totally just kidding). Where to spend my hard earned money for an education...Hmmm.. Tough decisions. There are so many great schools in this state. I have had the fortunate(or unfortunate) advantage to pay for an education at three Universities. With the recent graduation of my daughter from this university this is definitely one of the best in the country. I have spend many a weekend day driving to AA to take my daughter out for dinner/grocery shopping/chauffering. Uof M has everything to offer a student that wants it. If you don't know what "it" is then when you figure it out they have "it". This university has all the history and tradition like no other. My daughter got a paper cut the other day on her new diploma, she was actually bleeding Maize and Blue. Of course I tried to stop it with a Green bandaid but nothing stopped it.

Yelp
After attending Cal, I was blown away by the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. Both are public schools with huge student bodies, but Michigan catered more to its students. Although Cal is ranked above Michigan in the U.S. News and World report, the metrics do no justice in how much Michigan does for its student body in comparison to Cal. Michigan is light years ahead in many technical aspects like getting the student ID card to also serve as an ATM debit card, preventing email spam, ordering online free copies of transcripts to be sent out next day, etc. During the winter, there are free cab rides in the evening from campus to residents' quarters. The students play hard and work hard. I have never seen so many jocks congregate in the library! And best yet, the professors here bend over backwards to serve up students' wishes. At Cal, if you could get a meaningful sentence in with the professor, then you were a lucky dip sh--. Rankings, schmankings. Everyone's experience is unique, and so to each, their own!

Yelp
Alumnus. Staff member. Guy with a block M tattoo. That's me. The guy who loved U of M so much he never left. I've obviously never been an undergrad at any other college or institution, but I've visited many of those said institutions both during my formative college years and in the years since, and I still believe that this is the finest place to get a college education on the face of the earth. OK I'm biased. But take it all into consideration. The education. The Athletics. The overall experience. I entertained many a friend over the years who sat at a party where people were ankle deep in stale keg beer while arguing over the Supreme Court's role in the federal government only to hear them express 'Only at Michigan'. That's what I think of when I get nostalgic about my alma matter- that it's the complete college experience. Go Blue.

Yelp
I had no idea college would be on Yelp, but seeing my alma mater I have to give it 5-stars, of course. UM is big enough to have great sports and provide enough variety for a good college experience, and smaller programs to give a personal touch to learning. Also, the campus is uniquely integrated with the town. I have seen few other schools pull this off. The weather is the only "con". If you're coming from anywhere other than Minnesota, or maybe Chicago, expect a colder winter than you're used to. But this weeds out the softies. I grew up in Michigan and ran outdoors year around. I cherish my college years and highly recommend UM. Go Blue :)

Yelp
Unbelievable school. I am very lucky to have gone here and would change the experience for the world.

Yelp
Man, this is a great campus, beautiful from one end to the other and lovely friendly women everywhere. I was here working on the set of a movie and for the week we spent at this location I thoroughly enjoyed myself and met some really cool people. I tooled around to every building and the museum, went running with one of the actors in the movie at the stadium. Very cool. Bought me a Michigan hat cause I like stuff with M's on it and yellow, yes a color I needed in my wardrobe! he he The structures are very nice as well.

Yelp
There really is no place like the University of Michigan. Its level of academics, athletics, school spirit, and resources cannot be beat. Once you are a part of community, you will find ties wherever you go. You will find that the block M holds so many fond memories to a wide array of individuals; and that it will be recognized wherever you go. Come check out Michigan! It is a place filled with life, intellect, and joy! Go BLUE!
google avatar

Yelp
Worth every penny. Neck-and-neck with Berkeley for the best public school in the world. For those bright students who are being seduced by smaller schools who intimate that a place like UM is "too big" and that you'll "get lost" or "just be a number" -- that's a damn lie. You still get a very personal experience at a place like Michigan and you'll meet a lot of interesting people who have a variety of opinions and passions. You won't get much of that at a small liberal arts school. So join us here in Ann Arbor! Don't consign yourself to four years at a 3000-person school in a city of 11,000. Come live in the greatest city in Michigan and feel the vitality that a true flagship university brings to its city.
google avatar

Nupur L.

Yelp
Yelpers couldn't have said it better. You may leave Michigan but you'll always look back on how Michigan did it the best. I echo Joanna's concerns about the lack of good academic counseling and career fairs-but I was so well-prepared by the other opportunities at the university that I had no trouble finding a job that was ideal for me after graduation. Yay for the undergrad research opportunities, general feeling of openness, Midwestern warmth and friendliness, the amazing psych/neuroscience department and as much as I pretend to hate it, Ann Arbor. I sometimes forget that it's coincidental that my blood runs blue. GO BLUE!
google avatar

Aaron B.

Yelp
I never thought of reviewing the university until I saw it on the map. It's a great school, except the location (being in Michigan is rather unfortunate, it deserves to be in California or New Mexico). Great professors, lots of classes, large student body (helps with diversity and all that). Hmmm, I've lots of good and bad things to say. More later. But I should definitely mention that it has some of the best complex systems researchers on the planet, but no degree. Lot's of schools, ones with no famous people, they have degrees in computational modeling of social science, and mathematical behavior science, or just plain old complex systems. We, instead, have an administration that changes slower than climate. Despite their claims of encouraging interdisciplinary research I have found that MY attempts to do just that have been stifled, strangled, beaten, and peed on.

Yelp
I spent some of the most memorable moments of my life here. I absolutely adore Ann Arbor. It will always hold a very special place in my heart. From the UGLi to the Grad Library, gorgeous Angell Hall, the Michigan Union, Mary Markeley (my dorm my first year), the quad, walking to class on sunny April afternoons, Professor Williams' lectures, Amer's, the Law Quad in the fall, Hill Auditorium, Michigan Stadium on September Saturday afternoons, Royal Shakespeare Company, State Theater, etc., etc.--these are all memories I'll cherish forever. Which brings me to a special point. I know that Professor Ralph Williams had an incredible impact on myriad students over his three-plus decades in the English Department. And anyone who attended one of his lectures, let alone took one of his classes will know exactly what I'm talking about. Anyone could tell that he took a personal interest in each and every one of his students (of which there were many). His classes were always packed. He always made the subject so human and approachable. He inspired me, he moved me, he made me care about culture, people, Shakespeare, the Bible, Primo Levi; he opened my eyes to a different way of thinking as no one else has before or since. It was with a great deal of sorrow that I heard about his retirement after this past school year. The University of Michigan has lost a great ambassador and professor. He will be sorely missed. Back to U of M; I do not believe there is another University that combines such an incredible athletic program (I believe we're still the only school to have won a National Championship in each of the four major sports) with such a powerful academic curriculum and education. The school does so many things well and provides such great opportunities for students, it is incredible. The resources the U of M is able to provide for its students is truly amazing. Just for an example, I had the opportunity to read the actual correspondence between the leaders of the NAACP and the IOC leaders prior to the Games in Berlin in 1936. Where else can a student do that? Not many places. I love this place and hope my children also get the opportunity (if they so choose) to attend this amazing institution.

Yelp
My home away from home for four years. I think about AA evvvvery day, and whenever I go back it is like I'm being reunited with a best friend (yes, the campus hugs me. It doesn't hug you?? Hmm..weird.) I love central campus and north campus and the diag and State St. and S. University and the wave field and the BIG HOUSE and BTB and the Bursley/Baits and and and and....it goes on -- OH! chicken broccoli bake. Mmmm. dorm memories. UofM is a wonderful school with a ridiculous number of opportunities (many of which I didn't know about until I was about to graduate) other than the obvious ones -- awesome education, epic amounts of school pride, and the cutest/fattest little squirrels in the whole wide world. One argument for not going here is always that it's so big and you'll get lost in the crowd. You'll only get lost if you let yourself. I had plenty of small classes (7-20 people) and plenty of large classes (200+). The experience is what you make it. There is a place for everyone. Unless you're a Buckeye...heyoooo. What is there to say other than GO BLUE!

Yelp
There is no place like University of Michigan. There is no place like Ann Arbor. I now know how amaaaaaaazing UFM is after spending a year here in Chicago! I can't wait to go back home to A2. I have one advice for you. If you want to live the undergraduate years of your life, come to University of Michigan, period. One last thing, if you love pizza, (after New York) Ann Arbor is the mecca of pizza in the U.S. You must try South U Pizza right on South U Ave. They have the best Buffalo Chicken pizza I have ever had. You must also try the hot wings at Pizza House on Church St.

Yelp
Honestly the best university that one can hope to get into. The teachers are top-notch and excel at teaching. The food options are a bit expensive but manageable and the nightlife is pretty entertaining.

Yelp
I like this place so much I spent 4 whole years there. They used to have a good football team at one point, too. Not sure what happened there. Still it's a good place to spend your formative years. Pros: 1. College education. 2. I can now open a beer bottle with a lighter. 3. In-state tuition. Cons: 1. 8 feet of snow on top of my car. 2. New Jersey accents. 3. Squirrels.

Yelp
Very pretty campus. I visited the week before Thanksgiving and I got to see the campus with and without snow. The quad area was pretty active even when it was freezing outside. There were people making music near the M. The architecture was beautiful and I got to see how much pride U Mich has during their last football game of the school year. Go BLUE!

Yelp
The best! Beautiful campus, amazing courses and profs! Excellent sports! Love this university!

Yelp
Oh man the U. It's more than I could ever ask for in a college. I have learned some of the most important lessons in my life yet. Greek life on campus has such a negative stereotype, which I feel is overemphasized. I joined a fraternity and made an instant group of friends that I know I'll keep for life.

Yelp
My 100th review and I'm honoring it to my alma mater. I don't think it is possible to attend the University of Michigan and walk away with anything less than profound love and admiration for the school as an institution of higher learning and as an excellently-run organization. The Michigan experience is a wholesome one. Yes, you're gonna be studying a lot, although that depends on your major, but there is so much more going on outside of classes. But whatever it is, you're likely to be consumed by all things Michigan. During the football season, you're likely to be thinking about the game thats happening the coming Saturday all week long until game day itself and then you'll be watching it. Some of my fondest memories of Michigan include going to the football game- The walk to the Big house, together with thousands of students passing by the crazy house parties and then walking into the stadium and be blown away by the sight in front of me, every time. And you're likely to find your niche amongst the more than a thousand student organizations on campus that range from the Solar Car Team to the Sports Law Society to the Squirrel Club. And I love the MFlicks which show yet-to-be-aired-in-cinema movies free for students! On the academic front, the computing system is very well integrated. You could do so much on the internet, from viewing how many meals you've left for the week, to registering for academic advising appointment, to accessing your M-files. And there are always computing sites and libraries that are open 24 hours if you need to cram for exams. This is one school whose student body has immense school spirit. You'll graduate with Michigan carved in your heart and soul. You'll move on, go to other schools but still be thinking how Michigan did it best. And for all that and more, way more, I absolutely LOVE Michigan. (the school, not the weather)

驰

Yelp
one of the worst place I have ever been to in my life. Seriously, I am not an OSU fan or from the state of Ohio. I just simply hate this school. It doesn't care about its students at all. Administors are arrogant and indifferent to students. Supporting services are broken at here. Most food is trash and can barely being called as food. Unfortunately, I am an alumnus of this school. It's so sad

Yelp
Out of state tuition is comparable to that of any private university in the US. And that's OK, you go to UM for a good education and terrific "go blue" experience. But the school has some financial policies that are unjust and not found in any other comparable school around the country. If your major requires field work experience (eg, geoscience, environmental studies, geology,...) you will find that (1) the field experience courses are only offered in the summer session, and (2) you get charged an additional full summer term term tuition for the one course. In other institutions it is appreciated that this is inherently unfair and the course credits for the *mandatory* summer course are charged against the following fall (or preceding spring) term. SO if you happen to be interested in one of those majors, add another 10K to your tab... if you choose U of M.

Yelp
We went the the Liverpool Manchester football game. We waited in the parking lot for an hour to get out. We waiting for 30 minutes at the concession stand where we were yelled at and threatened to not be served because the lady had to go to the bathroom. We paid a significant amount of money to attend this game and the staff was rude and the university did not meet the needs of the population. Poor planning by the university.

Yelp
I'm biased. University of Michigan screwed me over on MANY of occasions. However, it is my Alma mater so I guess I should give it FOUR stars. Below I'll give some tidbits on how to make your college life a little smoother at U of M: 1) Pedestrians are known to get hit on campus, therefore I highly recommend learning NOT to jaywalk during busy times 2) North Campus is much more peaceful to live, but a pain in the winter during your commute. 3) Must buy season football tickets!! If not, you are considered lame. 4) The food court is crappy. Look for a Jimmy John's close by if you are hungry. 5) If you live off campus, the commuter lots are super efficient!! Especially the one on State Street, near Briarwood Mall. 6) The financial aid office is the devil....

Yelp
I had a great time here as an undergraduate, and Ann Arbor is an EXCELLENT "college town" that has it all: Good restaurants and bars, fun things to do, and a good mix of nature as well, such as the Huron River, Arboretum right on campus where I used to jog, etc. One reason I attended this school was the vast number of majors and classes they had, even on obscure things (like, it's the only school in America to teach Middle Egyptian, i.e., hieroglyphs, NOT Arabic!, to undergraduates, and one of only two or three schools that teaches it at all). If you're undecided, you can go here and be sure that, whatever you DO decide to go into, it'll be there for you. I enjoyed my classes so much AND had so much fun running around campus and town, climbing trees and chasing squirrels and seeing free concerts on campus or cheap concerts at the Blind Pig. I also liked the fact that that they had a solid four months of summer vacation, meaning you could go home and earn a lot of money at a full-time job. The only sad thing about this was that it meant that you never really got to be in Ann Arbor when the weather was NOT wintry or cold. The other huge downside of the school, of course, is the cost. At the time I went, it was THE most expensive public school in America. The in-state price was nice, but that's because they fleeced the out-of-staters unwise enough to go there (i.e., me!) and this is the reason for deducting a star. It was something like $7,000 a semester for in-state and $15,000 out of state. The experience is great but I do not condone people going massively into debt. If you're in-state, it's 5/5 but c'mon, non-residents are human beings too!

Yelp
It's hard to sum up 7 amazing years of my life in a single yelp review (yes, I loved U of M so much I came back for a second degree) so I'll just say "nowhere is there a better university, in any way, than this Michigan of ours."

Yelp
I have to support the school my son will be attending. They have been great so far. The campus is huge. Downtown Ann Arbor is great to walk around. Can't wait to see a game in the "Big House." I hope he will have the best four years of life. Go Blue!!

Yelp
This place was awful. Unless you're in the Engineering school, your degree is largely useless. They weed you out of all the freshman and sophomore science, math and business classes anyways. The students are REALLY cold and unfriendly. They're almost like robots. By the time you figure every thing out, you're ready to graduate. My four years there were hell, and I appreciate life now that I'm out of Ann Arbor. Did I mention the people are REALLY weird?

Yelp
Alright, U of M, I think you're cool. I don't bleed maize nor blue, and I can't stand football, but you're in a great town with lots of sandwiches. I appreciate the degree you gave me.

Yelp
What kind of alum would I be if I didn't give a shout out to my alma mater? Okay, sure after the generous geology department paid for my tuition, I only stayed in the field for 3 more years. But the time I spent there was priceless. I love the campus, the people, the programs. I love how they took care of you as a grad student; there was a grad student union, can you believe it? And grad student housing for $700 a semester! Great public transportation, lively social scene (not that I partook, vis-a-vis the grad student part), excellent health center. I loved everything about Ann Arbor and U. Mich. except the weather. Constant winter or sweltering summer. But I guess that's not the university's fault.

Yelp
I have mixed feelings about this place. As a Spartan, it's hard to give anything more than one star, but as a newly minted Wolverine I feel that the experience has been so far so good, and alone would warrant a 5 star rating. But you know what they say: a half a loaf of bread is better than no bread at all.

Yelp
Get a great well-rounded education that will set you up for life. Have the full college experience. Enjoy a small but energetic university town in the Midwest. See more ivy covered buildings than at Harvard. Keep in touch through a vast network of alumni groups and nationally televised sports. GO BLUE!

Yelp
I'm mostly writing this because I think it's hilarious you can Yelp about the University. But, so true, I love this campus. Clearly I'm biased since I went to school here, but it's the best bias to have. I've never been a very loyal follower of anything - sports teams, high school whatevers, actors, etc. But I bleed Maize and Blue.

Yelp
I read somewhere that U of M is the most expensive public institution in the United States. I have also read that most of the students are not paying their full tuition out-of-pocket, because they either have scholarships, or their parents are helping them. (Hence, the SUV's with New York and California plates, driven by kids without jobs. Thank you for doing your part to float the local economy.) If you are about to borrow the full cost of your education at U of M, stop a moment and ask yourself a question: is this trip necessary? If your degree is in English language and literature (hypothetically), the job market may not compensate you adequately to pay off the student loans. In plain English, that means you'll still be waiting tables after graduation, to pay back your Uncle Sam. If your aim is to get ahead financially, a degree in science or technology may work out for you anyway. If you are interested in literature, art or philosophy, and you want a quality education regardless of the cost, it's very likely that Michigan can help you with that, too. Michigan is consistently ranked in the top 20 by magazines and organizations that do those kinds of rankings. People who go to school here tend to regard their school years, the campus, and the entire city with a warm glow. You won't regret a decision to go with Michigan, but try to do it with someone else's money.
