UK Coronavirus Vaccine Could Cut COVID-19 Transmission by 67 Percent | Eater London

"A preliminary, not-yet-peer-reviewed study from researchers at the institution reports that the AstraZeneca–Oxford COVID-19 vaccine may reduce transmission by up to 67%. If replicable, the result suggests that at least one of the vaccines planned for use in the U.K. could both prevent symptomatic disease and severe illness and substantially cut asymptomatic spread — which accounts for as much as a third of infections — thereby lowering case numbers. That potential has been welcomed by officials and could help hospitality businesses, workers, and diners by shortening the time restrictions are needed and allowing trading and occupancy to move closer to normal, though it does not guarantee reopening without controls. The finding is hopeful rather than conclusive: the data await formal publication and peer review, other spike-protein–targeting vaccines might show similar effects, and emerging variants may blunt some transmission protection even if they continue to protect against severe disease. Health secretary Matt Hancock called the study “superb,” while industry reaction so far is limited, with publications seeking comment from trade groups and restaurants yet to meaningfully respond." - James Hansen

Oxford Travel Guide Resources & Trip Planning Info by Rick Steves

"Since the first homework was assigned in 1167, I've seen how the University of Oxford's stellar graduates have influenced Western civilization: its alumni include 27 British prime ministers, more than 60 Nobel Prize winners, well-known writers and actors, and even 11 saints. I enjoy strolling the garden where Lewis Carroll dreamed up his adventures for Alice, popping into the dining hall that inspired the one where Harry Potter eats, and wandering past the pub where J. R. R. Tolkien first spoke about hobbits; the university buildings are surrounded by a fun college town filled with cheap eats and rowdy, rollicking pubs nestled in honey-colored limestone buildings." - RICKSTEVES

The University of Oxford is truly one of the most breathtaking places I’ve ever visited. Every corner feels like stepping into another century grand architecture, golden stone buildings, and a quiet sense of history that’s hard to put into words. From the stunning Radcliffe Camera with its perfect symmetry and iconic dome to the intricate details of the surrounding colleges, the whole area radiates knowledge and tradition. It’s not just beautiful it’s inspiring. n absolute must-see a masterpiece of architecture and intellect combined.

Universally regarded as one of the great universities in the world, Oxford oozes history with every step and around every corner. As a student of British history, this was a dream come true to visit. I honestly could’ve stayed a week and wish this old guy could’ve put on a cap and gown and pretended to be a matriculant. Spread all throughout the city, the university tends to dominate the center of town and rightfully so. What an amazing place to see.

Visiting Oxford felt like stepping straight into a storybook! The city is full of stunning architecture and rich history, but what I loved most was how it connects to Harry Potter. Walking through the historic colleges and seeing the Bodleian Library, I could immediately recognize some of the film locations — it was magical!

Wonderful city. Lots of beautiful buildings and lovely shops. The botanical gardens are lovely to wander around. The covered market is great for a coffee and a bite to eat. Ben's Cookies are delicious. Use the park and ride for a stress free journey and cheap parking.

Excellent University of Oxford for an annual law conference to update my legal knowledge and a really clean and tidy study bedroom with excellent views from your window and access to the City centre only a short walk away. Really pleased to have networked at an annual law conference and made all new contacts and interested buyers of my new first book Parachuting in the name of Charity released soon with Olympia Publishers in London available on Amazon when available.

Yelp
The University is amazing. The entire city is steeped in learning and the momentum seems unstoppable. As a graduate student here, I feel my time is too short to explore all the possibilities, but I can imagine an entire lifetime in the academic world of Oxford being fulfilling. The University seems to have a push and pull between ancient tradition and constantly renewing and evolving culture and ideas.

Yelp
Beautiful campus filled with such diversity and steeped in such history. Parking was pretty terrible but it could be because it was graduation week so I can only tell from that one day. Many of the historical places were closed to the public and many more were closed to the public after a certain time (i.e. 5pm or so). I wish I could've spent all day here. I was a little disappointed that I did not see a single owl or witch while I was here.

Yelp
Amazing, amazing architecture I was there on a cold English winter afternoon (the sun was down at 4pm), but despite all of that, one cant help but appreciate the awesomeness of the architecture of this college For those who have seen Harry Potter, there is no need to go to a movie set for that movie, Oxford University is that movie!

Yelp
Walking through the streets of central Oxford, the amazing architecture of the 800 year old university dominates. The University is divided into 38 colleges and 6 permanent halls, and these vary greatly in architectural style. From the old medieval city walls which still run through New College, to the many buildings designed by Christopher Wren, and the 1960s architecture of Arne Jacobsen at St Katz. There is something for everyone and it is well worth finding out opening times before coming to Oxford, as the colleges are open to the public at various times. Walking through the many quads is a must, from the very grand at Christchurch to the croquet lawns of Trinity, and the intimate quads of Lincoln College to the lake at Worcester College. My favorite non-college building is the Sheldonian Theatre in Broad Street designed by Christopher Wren is one of the first interactions with the University for new students, it is spectacular inside and the views from the cupola are definitely worth climbing the stairs. From there it is a short walk to the Bodleian Library and the Radcliffe Observatory, both beautiful buildings.
